Stylish, airy cafe with mezzanine and exposed stone walls, for dim sum and handcrafted Chinese teas.
Don’t get confused by the name, not just your ordinary tea house, this place is serving some bomb cocktails and the best crispy pork belly Iv had in a long time!serving great dumplings and serving up Chinese dishes that are neither greasy nor covered in batter, nothing but the most clasiest in town! The restaurant highly relies on supplying you with the best of yumcha and various other Chinese recipes. The star of the menu is the Crackling Roast Pork Belly , there are mouth-watering meals like Shredded Steak in a Sticky Sweet Chilli Sauce with String Beans & Sesame, fit Legit Special Fried Rice – Packed with Chicken, Shiitake, Chinese Sausage, An extensive plant based menu including- Veggie San Choi Bao, House made silky egg tofu which is extremely tasty.Making sure that you have an incredibly pleasurable eating experience, the staff at Oriental is making sure you’re at ease!Recommending you big time for your next yumcha experience!
Dinner last night was fantastic. The male waiter did a terrific job with service, never had an empty glass, and the food was unreal. Definitely one of the best places I’ve been to. Thank you
Amazing food and cocktails, they ran out of a few dishes but what we were able to order was delicious. Try the soft shell crab sliders and satay chicken dumplings
One of the best asian fusion restaurants in Melbourne! I had doubts before coming here because most fusion restaurants tend to have mediocre food but not this one. The food was definitely the highlight of the evening apart from the amazing ambiance. We got the smokey chicken and the bbq pork and would highly recommend those dishes they were super good. Plenty of options to choose from including drinks if you are up for it. Theres a lot of space in the restaurant for kids to run around as well. Would definitely come again!
Came here few weeks back with some of my friends and we probably gave the most hectic ordering because most of us had different preferences and dieteries. However, our section host Sayuru (found the name from the billdid an amazing job taking down the order perfectly and repeated it to us and double checked everything. This is a long due review but we all really appreciate the smooth service he gave us. Definitely recommend place to get the most outstanding service!
Always consistently good to excellent food. The best out of the 3 restaurants. The service is always good reasonably quick and efficient. The interior could do with a slight refresh, but its still a good space and spacious. And no doubt Ill be back again at some point as its one of my go tos in the CBD.
Food is fresh and well presented.Been here multiple times before, never disappointed with the service, staff and food.
Recommended:• Cocktail: The Pink Panther, Hello Vera, Rasberry Mojito 🤩• Food: XO Prawn Dumplings, Ginger Prawn Dumpling, Peiking Duck, Wagyu Beef Dumpling, Oolong Tea Smoked Chicken, Legit Fried Rice 🌾• Dessert: White Chocolate Dumpling.• Tea: Jasmine Pearls.Service is very good and attentive.Food is quite expensive but the Ginger Prawn Dumpling, Fried Rice and Tea Smoked Chicken are the shining stars.Nearly or more than 20 kinds of tea, it’s quite amazing.Lots of vegan/vegetarian and gluten free options so it’s good place to gather people.
I would give this place 0 stars if I could. A group of 30 of us paid $64pp and had an all you can eat Yum Cha. The food took ages to be served and some of us even left the restaurant hungry. Do not dine here. I REPEAT DO NOT DINE HERE
Absolute joke. We paid for all you can eat and waited for 55 minutes before any food came to the table. Then small amounts came intermittently. Very disappointed.
My favourite of the two tea houses (Chapel St always too noisy)Had a really nice lunch not rushed & lovely server made it a pleasant experience. Food tasty and great for sharing.
The ambience was nice, staffs were super helpful and friendly(shoutout to Stella and OJand the food was absolutely delicious! Thanks for having us and would definitely come back again!
I really enjoyed getting dumplings and drinks here. The staff was very attentive and knew the tea variety well. Great ambience and music too. Delicious spring onion pancakes and steamed fish. Perfect to get dinner before going out dancing.
Everythings so delicious, perfect for either a big meal or just snacks. Many fresh made teas with health benefits, always busy but food is served in 15min
Food is great but overall a little oily, will give 4.5 if I can
We had a party of 8 so went with a banquet for 5 (meatand 3 vegetarians had a separate banquetThere was so much food and it was amazing. So tasty. Lots of dumplings, main dishes, steamed pork buns (yumand a white chocolate dessert dumplingesque that was amazeballs to finish off with. The service was amazing, helpful and they tried to work out the best way to manage the banquet as we were there latish for lunch (quite lateand they wanted to make sure we could have the banquets bit look after everyone and get the food out before the kitchens closed (3pm from memory)Would go back in a heartbeat.
Ambience was nice. Service was great.Fried barramundi (not picturedwas lightly coated and wasnt oily at all.Lemongrass chicken dumplings tasted like a strange meatball.Xiaolong baos were thick and stuck together so they broke and spilled the soup while trying to pick them up.White chocolate dumpling dessert was pretty yum.Overall it was a nice place although more expensive than other dim sum joints.
Great atmosphere and the food is delightful. Friendly staff. A good place to take friends.
Very good catering staff, food is decently priced for the taste and presentation. The many choices of tea are exemplary, I’ve never been to a restaurant where they have real tea in a tea pot before. Would return :)
So disappointing. Very Western-Asian fusion vibe, & so was the food. It looks better than it tastes - just get some frozen food & steam it at home, not much difference. Spring onion pancake wasnt crispy or tasty. BBQ buns & mushroom dumplings were good, but not amazing. Most of all, the price just wasnt worth the tiny portions & mediocre flavor. $5 for 1 piece of dumpling. I wont be back.
Our waitress Mai was exceptional, so attentive and well mannered. She was an absolute star serving our table and making sure everyone was properly satisfied, quality service!
Had high expectations as someone used to Sydney (yum chastandards. Overall food was great. Pork belly, prawn dumplings, pork buns were hits. Barramundi, fried rice and scallop dumpling were misses. Apple tea is a must try. But service was mixed. Wasn’t too accommodating the first impression from someone showing us to the table. At the table, service was great (someone else). But the frustrating experience was the last leg. Made to wait awkwardly at the counter to pay when staff knowingly pretend to look busy. Place found to be wanting.
I really enjoyed dinner here - the atmosphere was trendy and relaxed, and all of the staff were friendly. The food was tasty - dumplings had some unique flavours and were generous in size and filling. Although there is a western spin on the dishes, all the flavours worked really well and I tried some interesting dishes such as the white chocolate dumplings. The banquet did feel a little rushed - we were served all the dishes in about an hour and would have preferred some time in between courses. Finally the cocktail teapots looked great however were pricey for the amount of liquid (only filled about 3-4 glasses).
Lots of vegan-friendly options. Delicious food & exceptional customer service.
Our waiter was great. Cant remember her name but she was so lovely and really invested in us. We have the small banquet. Food was good not crazy yummy but good.
Great food, great service, prices are a little high but will definitely come again and try different dishes
My team and I went for a group dinner and we were seated upstairs with a more private setting. The food was delicious and so were the drinks/cocktails - we had a great time! The staff were amazing, alert, respectful and detail oriented, especially when it came to taking care of everyones dietary requirements. Highly recommend this place for team functions / dinners!
Booked this for dinner in hopes of a nice night to take my partner and their mother out. I booked for 8pm and no notification that the kitchen would close at 8:30, food came out fast but felt way too rushed. After our initial drink order we were not asked again. For a $200 bill, being rushed and not told that the kitchen would close within 30 minutes of arrival was very disappointing.Food was good. The highlight was the roast pork and mushroom dumplings however the duck and fried rice were disappointing.
Fantastic value and delicious food. Tea smoked chicken was the highlight for sure!
The best dumplings Ive had in Melbourne!Taking the humble dumpling and doing it justice, everything on the menu is packed full of flavour. The menu has the usual pan fried dumplings and xiaolongbao, but the chefs have outdone themselves with their unique Peking duck, wagyu beef and flamethrower pork dumplings. The dining area has excellent ambience, perfect place for date night and special occasions.Service was quick and we had all our dishes on the table moments after ordering.Cocktails are delicious.
Oriental Tea House’s menu was pretty extensive; they had a lot of dim sum varieties, main Chinese dishes, and also seasonal delights. A lovely cosy venue, and was definitely one of my go to restaurants when I didn’t quite know what I felt like having!
Exceptional service. Wait staff helpful and knowledgeable. Drinks were delicious, most of the food we ordered was fabulous. Noodle, rice dish, dumplings were phenomenal. Pork and octopus mains were a little disappointing as they were tough and chewy and not as flavoursome as we expected. Lovely restaurant, not too noisy or over crowded which we loved. Thank you.
First time and absolutely not the last one.Food was delicious. We loved pretty much everything.Sharing is a very good option. The staff was very friendly and kind.Recommended to book beforehand.Ill be back
Upscale dumpling house with unique food and excellent ambience. An excellent place for date night and special occasions.Oriental Teahouse goes beyond the staple dumplings (pork and chive, xiaolongbao etc.and experiment with uncharted combinations e.g. Peking duck, lemongrass chicken, wagyu beef etc.Unfortunately, the tea served here is diluted and subpar. Despite a large volume of tea being served, the intensity of the tea is extremely low.
Especially loved the prawn dumplings, very fresh, loads of filling. Was overall very enjoyable and the flavours were excellent! Would come back again next time I come to Mel.@ the executive chef and the restaurant owner, there is a little details that could be improved, i.e. removing the non-edible stem attached to green beans before cooking, which causes so much inconvenience preventing the enjoyment of delicious food.
The food was absolutely delicious! Loved every morsel of food that we had, their dumplings were out of this world. We liked the food so much that we not just had dinner but packed for next day lunch just because we wanted to try a few more dishes on the menu.
Great ambiance and service, however the food was pretty average though. We ordered Chilli Pork, Roasted Duck, Satay Chicken and Prawn& Shallot dumplings. Whilst the prawn and shallot dumpling was quite nice, other dishes were mediocre. In fact we had to order chilli oil to make it more flavourful. Overall the food was ok, but was lacking flavour.
Visited on 9July 2021. Great atmosphere and super tasty food. Each dish seemed to me made with care and passion. The Xiao Long Bao and the fried rice was super good. The staff was friendly (cant recollect the name, guess Edward?and helped explain about the dishes we chose. And great gesture by them to let us in around closing time which was fantastic. Never rushed us either while inside. The food is tasty but just that the portion sizes were smaller than what youd normally expect. Will definitely go back!
Such a beautiful space. First time in the city location and it did not disappoint. We did the Dumplings for Dating set menu which honestly levelled up the whole dimmer date experience. So much fun to play while they serve you each course of dumplings, mains and the amazing white chocolate dumplings for dessert. I love that my favourite cocktail the Hello Vera is part of the offer and my partner enjoyed the Pink Panther. Highly recommend for a great time, delicious food and drinks. Props to our waiter who was super attentive and adjusted the menu for my dietaries.
Great little venue with awesome friend, attentive and helpful service. Good drinks list and great cocktails. We had the dating yum cha for some fun and it was great! Food was plentiful, good variety and great taste! The coconut white chocolate dumplings for desert were amazing! Worth a visit
Reasonable yum cha but seems to try a little hard and charge a little too much. Ok to try once but not your regular go to for weekly dim sum
This is my little hideaway when I visit Melbourne, a beautiful place to sit and enjoy a relaxing cup of tea. I suggest to everyone that they try the dessert dumplings, AMAZING.Not only to relax, but a great place for lunch or dinner. Everything is delicious. Not to mention the staff, everyone is so friendly, happy to help and give suggestions. The atmosphere is made perfect by their hard work.Go here if you havent already!!
“Stunning Presentation”Look as good as it tastes? Deep fried tofu is excellent, but Sesami Balls is a bit hard and chewy. Besides Refresh tea and Dumplings, we all enjoyed.
I honestly have had so many great experiences here. Sometimes the service can be a little slow but it’s expected when the restaurant is very busy. My favourite dish are the BBQ pork buns and their fried prawn paper rolls. The desserts are amazing - try the fried walnut, peanut butter and choco wontons with ice cream and you must try the signature white choco dumplings.
Love this restaurant! Allow extra time as Service can be a little slow, but the food most definitely makes up for it. Wait staff are friendly and very helpful when ordering.
Great place for quick yum cha or alacarte service. The dumplings are delicious although slightly more expensive than other places, they are delicious. The service is quick and allows that quick lunch stop when working or in a hurry. A great selection of teas and retail store sells all tea accessories.
The tea blends are inspiring, tastings are available. The food was delicious, yum cha is the only option at lunch from noon - check on this when planning your visit. Great venue for large groups, full bar and table service. Bathroom is upstairs. All round pretty good, love dumplings.
This was soooo good! They have big selection of vegan/vegetarian dishes, I was so happy! The food was very tasty. I loved the white chocolate desert, too good. The portions are small and price is a bit high, but worth it! I recommend getting around 3 dishes per person. The staff is so kind! They were a bit slow but I wasn’t on a rush :)Teas looked amazing!
Nice place and ambience. Staff are very friendly too unlike in some other Chinese restaurants. We came here for dimsum and the foods were pretty good. The added a bit of twist into the foods to make them more modern which I quite liked. The only thing that I can think of as a feedback will be their fried noodle. It was too bland for my liking and the noodle looked like the one you got from instant noodle packet, a bit curly. If they put more flavour that will be awesome. Overall, the foods are good!
One of the best places for dumplings! Hands down. Will keep coming back. Everything was delicious, the staff were super helpful with the menu and tea selection. Please do try their dessert white chocolate dumplings.
