Cozy Mediterranean eatery serving housemade hummus with falafel or meats, plus sides & sauces.
Absolutely delicious. I got the labneh, hummus, and babaganoush. Ask for the spicy chili sauce too. Whole wheat pitas were so fluffy and warm and just perfect.
The pita was amazing, and the chicken had such a good flavor. The portion size for the hummus was pretty big, and it comes with 2 pieces of pita, so its definitely filling. We also got fries, which were good, but honestly not anything amazing in my opinion. The service was really good, the waitress refilled our water without asking and also checked in a couple times to see if we needed anything. Would come back again!
The Pita Falafel was tasty and filling, with a generous portion size. Bourekas with potato stuffing were delicious. Ill return just for them. The service was excellent.
Lovely place. I was excited to try something new. With our Armenian background food was familiar. Falafels, humus, Kebabs, pita bread, super tasty chicken, and delightful broiled cauliflower. Loved it.
An upscale hummus eatery, Orensoffers a familiar version of the chickpea paste. The serving size is a little stingy, but the restaurant shines in the attention to details, as in the whole wheat pitas and homemade zhoug, a Yemenite spicy condiment.
The best hummus Ive had...and the fresh fluffy pitas kept me mopping up every bite. Lamb was tender and flavored perfectly. Save room for the Malabi as it wont disappoint.
Got the falafel pita. It was good - I happen to like falafel very much so I was pleasantly surprised that the falafel pita was the cheapest entree on the menu.
Delicious appetizers and mains. We tried the sampler, the lamb and hummus plate, and the chicken bowl. Everything was fresh and flavorful.
This review is not about food ( the food was great). It is about fraud. Make sure you check itemized receipts in this place before you pay! When it was time to paid, the waiter did not bring a receipt (I noticed that it was the same for other tables), but just told me how much my check was. It seemed a little bit higher than I expected, but I had nothing else then to pay and ask for the printed receipt. I waited for the printed receipt for 10-15 min and had to remind about it twice. When I finally got my receipt I noticed the following: (1price for one ordered item has higher than on the menu; (2subtotal before tax and tips included living wage fee. So I paid not just more for one ordered dish, but sales tax and tips on top of both this incorrectly priced dish and living wage fee. When I pointed to the manager about this, I was offered to return me in cash (coinsfor the incorrectly priced dish.I hope that others will see my review and would not be deceived.
I cant explain how much I enjoy eating here. I love their hummus, rice bowl with beef kebab, chocolate mousse, pita sandwiches with chicken, and their fries. I always come back, especially during their happy hours (3-5 PM I believe?since the food is SO delicious and the staff are always very friendly and attentive. I also am in love with their mint lemonade and Im not someone who tends to like lemonade. If youre a chocolate fan, I cannot recommend their chocolate mousse enough. Definitely try this place even if youre not a fan of hummus
Great location and friendly staff. Love the pita and everything I’ve eaten here. I normally try to find new restaurants when I travel but go here every time I visit PA
Food was delicious; definitely recommend!
We drove three hours to have our anniversary lunch at Orens! Its that good! The hummus is the best Ive ever had and all of the incredible flavor combinations are out of this world. Also their fresh made pita! Great service, ambiance, everything. Make sure you get some hummus to go!
The hummus is delicious and the pitas are super fresh and definitely seem like theyre made at the store. Their use of spices make their dishes savory. Portion sizes are reasonable as well. Ive been here a few times now and its still a favorite.
Ate here with some friends. Ordered some appetizers and breads for the table which we quite good. My main was a hummus bowl which ironically I do not recommend ordering. Just waaaay too much hummus and little else on the plate. Sure it’s good hummus, but at that point I may as well just buy hummus from the grocery store and eat the whole thing instead of paying to eat out.My friend had the chicken salad which I recommend instead.Nice outdoor seating.
Definitely the best, smoothest hummus you can find in Palo Alto. All the entrees come with pita.
Food is great and reasonably price for what is.Disclosing: 3% living wage fee is added to your bill and adjust your tips accordingly so you don’t over tip. The numbers eventually add up.They only allow 2 cards per table.
The richest, creamiest hummus I’ve ever had! Perfection on a plate!
Ordered by phone, charged by CC, requires signature upon pickupOrdered lamb hummus, beef Kebab rice bowl, & baba ganoush — all were excellent. Homemade pita was soft and delicious. Lamb hummus is a must try — soft, tangy and juicy in just the right ways. Paired extremely well with hummus and homemade pita — Would order again!
I ate veg pita falafel 🧆. Really loved the taste want to visit again 😊😊😊.
Hands down the best Israeli restaurant I have been too. Best hummus I have had. And Im still thinking about the chicken skewers rice bowl. Such juicy flavored chicken. The rice is perfectly seasoned. Nothing was overwhelming in flavor it was just right. We cleaned every order!
Very good Baba ghanoush, Falafel were amazing as well. Really nice sitting outside. Staff was very attentive and prices were reasonable.
One of the best Mediterranean restaurants I have been to in the Bay Area, and well worth the price. Good portion sizes for the quality of the food. Cannot stress enough that you should try this place, they have a little something for everyone. University location has and amazing outdoor seating atmosphere as well.
Great food, prompt friendly service, comfortable outdoor seating. We had the lamb and the beef humus plates and sweet potato fries, plus a Turkish coffee.
The food was good, but the service was less than stellar.I went with my mom and my sister around lunchtime. My mom does not feel comfortable sitting indoors because of COVID precautions, and politely asked the host to be seated outside. He quickly said that it would take "30 minutes" to be seated outside, when there were actually multiple open small tables that could have easily been placed together. My mom asked to be seated at a small table, and he agreed. The small table we sat at was not even big enough for all 3 menus and plates. We asked to be seated at a larger table that just opened up, but the host said no. We then asked one more time to be seated at another larger table, and he finally said yes.The food was served quite quickly, and tasted good. We finished eating, and watched as multiple groups were seated outside very quickly, as the host placed smaller tables together for them, but was unable to do that for us when we came.We sat at our table for ~30 minutes, before my mom finally waved down a waiter to ask for our check and a takeout box. This is unacceptable because it should not take this long to notice we were finished eating and give us the check. We also noticed multiple tables already got their checks when they came after us.This was a very poor experience and we will not be coming back.
This place was quite the surprise! Never thought I could enjoy a hummas restaurant so much but here we are. The best pita Ive ever had! It was warm and soft. Both whole wheat and white were very good and honestly I couldnt choose between them. I couldnt recommend this place enough and Ill be returning there.
The food is great, the servers are friendly and attentive and they now have free refills of lemonade and iced tea. They can make an Arnold Palmer —the best of both worlds. The babaganoush has that wonderful smoked flavor. The chicken or falafel sandwiches are for me a healthy alternative to any sandwich or burger. And so many sides of vegetables to choose from. Check out the Labane, cheesy and smooth, like a savory dessert if you will. Bravo Oren’s Hummus!
Their hummus bowls are amazing, ordered a hummus with pine nuts and beet hummus. Very tasty hummus, the pita was very fresh. Also ordered a rice bowl with falafel but that was okay. Baba ghanush was also okay. Highly recommend to order hummus bowls. They have outdoor and indoor seating both. Went on a Monday evening but still there was wait time. Recommend to call early and book a table.
The hummus is lovely here. The smooth type with lots of tahini.
Delicious food and great ambience. They have outdoor and indoor seating. Free 3 hr Parking available at a nearby garage. Our server was nice. Overall very good service. Had to wait 5-10 mins on a Saturday afternoon to get seated. Their hummus is a must try. Rice bowl is a bit sweet. Tastes great with their spicy red and green sauce. Great experience.
Came here on a Sunday night - this place is definitely more upscale than the location in Mountain View - I really enjoyed coming here and eating.Good:Fast service - we got all of our dishes pretty quickly. I really liked a couple of the items in the sampler appetizer dish since it was a wide variety - my favorites were probably the yogurt and the babaganoush.I also liked my hummus chicken though it was a large portion so I couldnt finish.I liked the shakshouka but I think I prefer the green one over the regular one since it has more flavor.Bad:Theres not enough bread for all the sampler dishes! I wish we got more. I wasnt that big of a fan of the turkey sausage in the shakshouka.Overall enjoyed my time here and it was pretty classic Orens Hummus but a nicer dining experience inside.
The fact that they have 11 kinds of hummus should be a dead give away about their expertise (just in case you had missed the hummus in their name). Many options for vegetarians as well. Outdoor seating available for about 30 patrons. Arrive at 11 am in weekends to get your choice of seat, by noon there can be a queue for outdoor seating.
Everything here is delicious. Good vegan/vegetarian options. We ordered hummus lamb, Falafel rice bowl, Sch de Noir, Turkish coffee. Friendly staff.
The greatest hummus I have ever eaten. Fantastic pita and falafel and even carrots and green beans. Excellent chicken, both grilled thighs and fried breast. An absolutely fantastic restaurant.
This place is amazing, i definitely love their food. You should really try all their food as its really worth it. Their hummus are tasty!!I noticed that they do add more food options in their menu once a while which really prompts me to come back and try more each time. The customer service and their employees are really friendly and always gets my order quickly with a smile. Good Job!!Thanks
Good food, lots of outdoor seating. We ordered Hummus Cauliflower, Falafels - both were good while Shakshuka was okay. Portion size is generous. Falafels were crispy and had mild flavor. The pita bread was good as well. Wait times on weekends is about 40 mins. Friendly staff
I went here with my grandmother last week when we were visiting Palo Alto! Everything we ordered was absolutely divine and so was the service! Our waitress, Sarah, was accommodating and kind! We ordered the veggie sampler and the hummus lamb. Both were amazing and so flavorful, possibly best mediterranean/israeli cuisine we have ever had! The meat was juicy and flavorful and we got takeout a few days later and even order a container of orens eggplant! This is a must if you’re visiting Palo Alto!
The Sampler has a fun variety and worth getting on a first visit! The Beet salad was also very good. Good outdoor seating, dog friendly but service (including seatingwas a bit "chaotic." The To Go ordering window/pickup is clearly very popular a lot of options easily available foe immediate pickup (e.g. hummus already packaged)
Hands down the best chicken!!!Update: Visited again with a friend an tried the traditional Shakhuka, Hummus Chicken Bowl and Sampler Dip. The portion size was big for 2 people and all items are very tasty.
Long time customer, and for a very good reason... like most of the places I prefer, I try every item on the menu and Orens has not disappointed! The hummus bowls are always a solid choice and all the sides are fresh and flavorful. The schnitzel pictured to the right was excellent - a great complement to the subtle taste of the mashed sweet potato and hummus.Props to Sara for providing amazing service for us and all her tables! The dinner rush arrived with a force and she held it down.
Delicious, fresh, quality food. The harissa sauces (both red and greenare to die for. I’ve been coming here for years, and they’ve managed to keep their meals super tasty, at a quality price and with great portions! This is the rice bowl w chicken + side of hummus. Pita is also some of the freshest I’ve ever had!
Got a great deal on UberEats for a 2 for 1 deal with the Beef Kebab. The price is definitely extremely steep at the regular price however. The sides are fantastic with quite large portions of hummus and baba ganoush. The 4 meatballs were tasty as well but for $22+ on UberEats, not the cheapest offering in the area. If you can score a deal on the food, its a great value and the food tastes amazing. Cant comment on the service or ambiance since it was a pickup order.
Service is really great. Good outdoor space with live music on Saturday afternoon. Lot of outdoor seating as road was blocked.Rice was good. I didn’t really like pitas and hummus that much. Sampler Plate was good.I would come back again for experience. There is enough parking close by.
Great place with some very authentic Israeli Middle eastern food. We went in 45 mins before close and were gracefully seated. The waiter still explained everything on menu. We ordered the hummed with Chicken liver( was out of this world)... Shakshuka was great! Cauliflower florets were phenomenal.
Very nice Mediterranean restaurant in Palo Alto. Open seating setting kinda. Good ambiance. Had a fast casual feel. I can’t vouch for how authentic the food taste since I have never been to the region but the food here tastes good. We ordered a bunch of apps and I had the Shakshuka, which is a traditional Mediterranean dish I was told. Not bad, it taste like a brunch dish, tomato base with eggs in it. Hummus was very nice. Would recommend this places to others.
Excellent Israeli style hummus (and other foodson the lively Palo Altos University Street. The hummus was great, the meat was very flavorful, the falafel was even better and the baklava was home made moist sweetness.Lots of options for vegetarians and vegans. The service was very friendly, very clean and simple decor. There is parking on the back if you dont get street parking on University. Its a Palo Alto staple and its expanding in other places too. Orens does put the Hmm in Hummus
Hummus with toppings and pita on the side, what more could one ask for.We tried cauliflower hummus, chicken hummus and rice, everything tasted great. It’s a crowded place, they don’t take reservations, waiting time for lunch ~15 mins on weekdays so plan accordingly
Rip, scoop, eat ... dont mind if I do. I definitely enjoy a meal consisting primarily of hummus and fresh pita. We arrived one Saturday afternoon, and the restaurant was very crowded. The dining space is quite snug. Our waitress had to pull out the table so I could slide myself into the seat. Then they started us with a small bowl of pickled cabbage, peppers, carrots, topped with cilantro.$13.50 Hummus Beef - hummus with tahini, olive oil, and secret sauce, topped with Moroccan spiced ground beef and pine nuts, with white & wheat pita:This beautifully appetizing plate of creamy hummus arrived dusted with cayenne pepper, There was a healthy amount of ground beef topped with tahini.I proceeded to rip, scoop, and eat, of course. Though I satisfied my curiosity to try the wheat pita, I still prefer the texture of the white pita. I would have preferred the pita to be a little more fresh, and a little bit softer. Their pita is a thicker variety, more like flatbread.$17.95 Chicken Skewer w/ Orens Hummus - puree of fried eggplant, spices, caramelized onion and hard boiled egg, & Falafel - 5 Falafel balls topped with tahini:The juicy nuggets of chicken were served skewer-less, alongside a scoop of eggplant. The eggplant was a touch bitter and I could not really taste the hard-boiled egg. The miniature falafel balls were very easy to eat and mild in flavor compared to other falafel balls Ive had. The tahini sauce on top is rather thick, and practically a peanut sauce.$2.25 Baklava - phyllo dough, pistachio and honey layered by hand and baked:Its always hard for me to walk away from baklava. For a tiny bite-size portion of baklava, it packs quite a lot of flavor, as well as crunchy, nutty texture. Though small, its a good size for something so sweet. The food quality was solid and our server was especially sweet. If I return, Id like to try the shakshuka next, since that is only available as a dine-in option.
This place was a nice surprise. We looked a few restaurants in the area but Orens was the busiest by far. We decided to give it a try and boy are we happy we did. The food was good and the wait staff are friendly and fast. I didnt care for the dessert as it was too raspberry for me. Everything is fresh and organic. The Hummus is truly amazing. I will recommend thus place to anyone who wants to enjoy some good Mediterranean food.
This place is good but not everything rastra good. Hummus and pita is excellent, staff is friendly and service is good. But we were few people, but nobody liked their entree. Rice bowl was casting sweet which was weird. Kebabs and other things were kind of blend. If I ever go again I will only eat hummus pita and salad as they were the good things.
