Great real German food. Great service!
Holy smokeballs this is easily the absolute best German food Ive had since leaving Germany 20 years ago. Everything is fresh everything is homemade. Its amazingly good !
My husband I absolutely love this place. Wally makes the best cordon bleu . We came into town and had to come Herr. Im sure we will be back a few times before we leave.
Food reminded me of my memories with my Families experiences when stationed there with the US Army in Storck Barracks in Illesheim, Germany
Had dinner here tonight and it was great..waitress, Amanda was right on top of everythingThe owner came out.of the kitchen to make everyone was satisfied..you dont.get service this anymore. Outstanding!!!
Great food like you get in a guest house in Germany
This place is bar none, the best place for truly authentic German schnitzel! It is absolutely amazing. I always get the Jaegerschnitzel, spaetzl with gravy and amazing cucumber salad! Wow, so good! Don’t forget the light and fluffy cheesecake that is like nothing you’ve ever had. Also a bonus…it is BYOB! Show up at 4pm, you WILL NOT be disappointed.
Delicious authentic German cuisine made with a lot of love. The owner, Wally, makes it all from scratch and she knows what shes doing.Jaegerschnitzel was delicious (even the breadcrumbs are homemade!). Bratwurst is great and made in house. Wish she made multiple kinds.Seating in the biergarten is very relaxing. Our server Amanda was sweet and personable. We will definitely be back.
They are awesome!! I wish I was rich like Trump. Id buy them an updated place for their business. These ladies run a top-notch restaurant. Guy Fietti should come check it out. They display books and posters of their German hometown. They stop to talk with you like long time friends.
Great food family atomsphere. Very nice experience.
We had a Great Bratwurst dinner plate and I will be back for the Schnitzel
I cannot say enough good things. I contacted the owner trying to figure out how to have a birthday party at the restaurant. I was concerned due to our party having to arrive at 7 and the restaurant closing at 8. She quickly worked with me and offered we could order a cheesecake for dessert also. We arrived and were quickly escorted to the patio for dinner and served very quickly. Best experience!!
Someone treated me today to some Opas Schnitzel Hut (had never been out that wayand omg, soo good. The Cheesecake was traditional German Cheesecake , very authentic. The Cucumber Salad, absolutely delicious. Now that Copperas Coves German Imbiss has closed, this will definitely be my new go-to.
10/10 Food. This place is wonderful.
Excellent service, great food, and the staff was very friendly. They checked on us multiple times. The food arrived very quickly. Our dog (who was being well behaved in case ppl don’t have good pets with themwas with us outside and they brought him a bowl of water. Would highly recommend!
Well for one Im German myself and I could cook all these things myself. But this food here is so amazingly good why should I waste my time. The jagerschnitzel is so delicious with their mushroom gravy and the cucumber salad is the best Ive ever had. And instead just one cake I took two pieces home because they are homemade and so great tasting light and fluffy. Wow absolutely stunning.
We just had lunch here and its amazing! 10/10 for a nice family meal. We dont often think of German food when going out to eat but we definitely will from now on! Food tasted fresh and made with love, the waitress was very friendly and it felt unique unlike other restaurants. Try the mandarin torte!
My Jagerschnitzel was good as well as my Spätzle. My potato salad was a little sour but good. Id go back.
Everything was delicious. Her cooking is absolutely amazing, It was like being in Germany. The location is so clean and cozy! We will definitely be going back. This place…. a must go to place, added to your list!!
Another amazing experience here, food was very authentic and tasty, also had top notch service. Happy and full, my favorite spot after hiking at Dana Peak.Food tip: Snetchel, comes with two sides, is large enough for two as long as you get extra sides.
This is the best German Food I had in a long time, better than Fredericksburg! This Gem is located in Harker Heights Texas and is delicious! Worth the drive. We went hiking at Dana Peak Park along the lake and saw the yellow building with Opas Schnitzel Hut and of course had to check it out. The friendly waitress explained that the owner makes everything from scratch - from pounding out the meat to making her own bread crumbs for the schnitzel breading. The gravy, the cabbage, the spätzle and more all from scratch. This makes all the difference. I cant wait to go back and have a Bratwurst (homemade). The only thing missing was a tall glass of German Beer. ( B.Y.O.B $1.00 per person). They even had a cute story on the back of the menu about how the owner got started. Best Day Ever! Hiking with my 82 year old mother 6 miles and enjoying an authentic German meal. I know because my mother is German and she knows her German food (smile).
We loved a Schnitzel with Mushroom gravy, home-fries, home-made sausage, cucumber salad, and sauerkraut, bread, coffee, mandarin tart, and cheesecake. We liked everything about this place: friendly and attentive service, great food, price, with its family history and preserved tradition. A cozy dining room of four tables, with an outdoor seating area, and take-out option. Our dining experience was delightfully pleasant in every way. A true authentic home cooked German food. So yummy.
The cordon bleu was excellent, I added jager gravy, red cabbage, and spetzle, but the star ⭐ is the dessert, the cake is a mountain of flavor, and this aint your deli cheesecake.... different texture than store bought. If you want either cake whole you have to order ahead.
Amazing!!!!! I felt like at my grandmothers home! When its always warm, cozy and tasty! This warm and family atmosphere just captivated us! We will definitely come back and bring our parents for lunch to this beautiful place! We ate outside and it was so cozy, in this wonderful not hot weather!
THIS PLACE IS AMAZING! Me and my wife are definitely eating here again! Everyone there is very very nice and the food is so good my mouth is watering just thinking about it!! 10/10 would recommend!!
Amazing, great food and atmosphere. Very small place with an authentic feel. Talked to the owner and reminisced about Germany. The schnitzel was the best Ive had in years. The cheesecake was perfection. Highly recommended.
Excellent schnitzel. Charming atmosphere. Great experience. Will be back.
Honestly, it was as if we had left the States for a meal. As soon as we placed the order, we could hear the kitchen clabber: It sounded like the entire kitchen staff was working on our order. The four of us ordered large meals. I ordered the "Gypsy" schnitzel and it was as good as or better than the schnitzel I remembered as a kid. You can practice your German here. The staff uses high german and slows it down a little, just incase were rusty.
Friendly staff, home made flavors, authentic German taste! Fantastic
An excellent small German restaurant, with authentic food, the service was pleasant and prompt, absolutely nothing was frozen, everything was made fresh all of it tasted delicious. The atmosphere wonderful, I truly cannot say enough about this wonderful small business.
This is the best German restaurant ever. Very friendly atmosphere and most authentic German food as it gets. We haven’t had this good of German food since we’ve been back from Germany.
Always amazing food and super friendly people. Stop in and support wonderful local businesses like these great folks.
Absolutely phenomenal food. I have been Germany and this place nails that taste. The atmosphere inside the cozy restaurant accompanied by the attentiveness, and courtesy, of the owners makes this a must try place anyone who has never had German food, or someone trying to reminisce on how good German food is.
Authentic, delicious German food!!! In addition to the great quality of food, you are also able to hear the kitchen preparing your snitzel at the time of your order. The seasoning and breading on the Weiner Snitzel was unique, adding a great boost to the traditional taste we all love so much. The spatzle was shaped in a different manner than I am used to having and the gravy was very different, but the great taste of both overcame all those. The staff was welcoming, friendly and extremely helpful when dining in. I would just suggest dining in at odd times in order to find seating inside if its preferred. I believe there are no more than maybe 3 to 5 tables max inside and 1 out front. Despite the small size I am looking forward to my next visit and trying all my favorites!
The authenticity of the food is amazing. Once you go inside, it doesnt feel like youre in Texas anymore. To their side dishes to the main dish. Everything was delicious and authentic. This is not your photo copy German food spot. This is THAT German food spot.
Amazing authentic German food made by an actual German! Opas was a delight, and an absolute treasure to find. The Schnitzel was juicy and crispy, the cucumber salad was amazing, and the kraut was exactly what it should be.This place is very small though, with only three or four tables inside. If the weather is nice, they have outdoor seating available. They do not serve alcohol, but you are allowed to bring your own, and they will provide a nice set up.We visited during the Covid-19 pandemic, so everything was served in styrofoam containers. The staff was very pleasant, and the service was excellent. If you are looking for a high brow experience, look elsewhere. Opas is simple german food, cooked and served by people who love it in a simple setting that is about as authentic as you can get.
Best German Cusine in town!! The staff is super nice and the outside seating in the Biergarten is perfect! The Schnitzel, currywurst and cordon bleu are so delicious with the home fries (Bratkartoffelnand potato salad (Kartoffel Salat). BYOB. Dont miss out on this authentic German cuisine!!
Delicious and authentic German food. The restaurant itself is teeny tiny so we often order takeout, but when the weather is nice they also have some outdoor seating to take advantage of. You can BYOB- so don’t hesitate to bring a good German brew to go with your meal. 😊 Don’t miss their Oktoberfest event either- it’s such a good time and gets PACKED!
"Klein aber fein" as you would say in German (Google it!). Great food, friendly people, what else do you need? Go and see for yourself! Sehr empfehlenswert! Guten Appetit Leute!
This place is amazing!! We wandered into it on a whim tonight because I was craving German, and it did NOT disappoint. The service was delightful and the food was absolutely incredible. Definitely worth the slight detour to go find it.
Best German food Ive had outside of Germany. Serving size is big. We had the Jaeger schnitzel with speitzel and red cabbage. Also had the home made brautwurst with cucumber salad and speitzel. For dessert we had the Mandarin orange torte and the German cheese cake. Both amazing. The lady that runs the restaurant is really friendly and took the time to talk with us and share her family story. The environment is homey with family pictures and Opas hat hanging on the wall. The dining area is small, but cozy. An absolute must for the Killeen/Fort Hood area.
Great authentic German food in a pretty authentic little restaurant. My wife, who was raised in Germany, likes it and says its good. The indoor seating is limited but theres plenty of outdoor seating. The owner & staff are very friendly. 5 stars if there were more indoor seating.
Food tastes authentic and fast friendly service. Small dining area probably seats about 20 people. Definitely worth the trip all the food was fresh and tasted great. Will definitely be back soon!!
THE BEST German food in the area. Every time Ive been, Ive dined inside and the food was made to order, not sitting around congealing. The only downside at all is that its a shack and has 3 tables, I think. No large parties can be accommodated, so get it to go, but the food is definitely authentic German food!
Wow, what a hidden gem east of Ft. Hood! This place is very small but it packs a HUGE punch in taste! I had the Jaegerschnitzel with cucumber salad and both were simply amazing. The schnitzel was cooked perfectly and was easy to cut with a fork. The schnitzel was very good and had great texture. The cucumber salad was served cool and was delicious. I purchased a cup of Hungarian stew that came out early and it was very good as well. Tons of beef and vegetables that was very tasty. This place is small, it seats maybe 20 but it is definitely worth your while!!!
Voted best German restaurant 3 years in a row. Menu is limited but schnitzel is delicious. Small little house converted into a restaurant. Inside seating is very small but outside seating is plenty. Be aware of the hours of operation. Closed Sun-Mon-Tu. Other days are 11-2 and 4-8. It is also BYOB, nothing better than a great schnitzel with a beer or some wine you brought!!
One of my favorite places to eat lunch, its as close to being in Germany as you can get. (& yes Ive been to GermanyI always order the snitchel sandwich with the cucumber salad & its never disappointed me. Also the owner is super sweet & because I go so often she knows exactly what I order & exactly how I like it. & that means a lot to me, that she is personal & humble with all of her repeat customers.
Never had German cuisine before but we know what good food is supposed to taste like and Opas delivered on our expectations and beyond. This place is awesome! The food was full of flavor and just the right mix of spices. The German coffee was delicious and the dessert, mandarin creme torte, couldnt have been better. Highly recommended! We are looking forward to going back again!
Locally owned and authentic German food. Great food! Owner makes her own sausage almost daily. No alcohol but you can bring your own. Very small dining area, perhaps five tables, prepare to know your fellow dinners. Try the dessert, excellent! Very enjoyable dining experience!
