We stumbled upon Asmara quite by chance but it turned out to be an experience to be remembered. In a good way, of course. The restaurant décor is distinctly African and very pleasing. The lady who is the owner has designed it all and the dishes from her home country of Eritrea are her idea. The dishes are full of African flavour and beautifully presented. It is an unforgetable experience. I wont spoil the fun for you but you probably have not eaten like this ... for a long time :-)

What a fantastic experience. Food was delicious, from main dishes to dessert and coffee. Well seasoned, the flavours complement each other and spices are on point. The decor is beautiful, I couldnt stop looking around all the time. The owner was very attentive sharing her thoughts on the dishes, I could see she wanted the best experience for us. Ill definitely be coming back.

Oost Afrikaans Asmara is one of the best places to have a unique gastronomical experience. The food is very tasty and you can say you will be left with such a nice memory. The owner is super sweet and always helpful with suggestions and open to feedback. My son enjoyed the food along with us and we definitely will come back again. Even though I ate very well, i did not feel any heaviness after the meal. The combination plate is complete meal with all the vegetables and about 7 servings of different types of food. You have to eat with your hands. Go with an open mind if you are going for the first time and you will have a rich experience.Ambience - 5*Food and taste - 5*Service - 5*Hygiene - 5*The items we had were all vegan -Fitfit, Kategna, May tsom hwswas, injera, African coffee. All food is served with injera which is made from tef flour.

Very traditional food. Nice flavor combination, it tastes as its made at home. The portions are quite satisfying and the prices quite reasonable. A different, unique experience for anyone that hasnt tried original African food yet. Totally recommended.

Best place in Eindhoven to eat traditional east African food. Being a vegetarian, I enjoyed the wide options they offered. We (two personordered two appetizers - Fitfit, and Kategna both were slightly spicy and loved it. We also ordered Nay tsom hwswas, a vegetarian combination meal, soft Injeras with 10 - 11 side dishes , including salads. I enjoyed the taste of every sides and the combination. The overall ambience can improve , but we took a nice corner seat which was decorated with traditional decors. They played some nice traditional music which went well with the setting. Special mention to the coffee which is prepared in front of you and served in traditional way. I will definitely recommend Oost-Afrikaans restaurant Asmara for the taste and hospitality.

Absolutely fantastic meal, exactly the way I remember Ethiopian dinners from 20 years ago. Good portions, great options, nice atmosphere. The place really hit everything Ive anticipated, and our hostess/server was very nice. This was my partners introduction to Ethiopian food and shes already wanting to go back! I can definitely recommend this place for a proper taste of Addis.

One word to describe the food, fantastic.Authentic, different and thoroughly enjoyable are other words! Really worth a try, especially if youve never eaten East African cuisine before.

It was a different experience but I liked that I was living that culture. Dont ask for a fork you wont get one :D tibsi with chicken was very very good but I heard that this dish is actually not traditional with chicken. But still it was very good.

Me and my partner had the most delicious meal here-This place is great for vegetarians and meat eaters. I would recommend the okra and yellow lentil with injera but it was all delicious! We are both now hooked! It’s a must try

My visit to this restaurant was a unique experience!Very nice environment, friendly and quick service, and very tasty food. I also loved the hot wine and totally recommend the baklava to close your meal!!

If you’re looking for more than tasty, spiced food but also an experience, this is your place. The food comes in a big platter with a kind of pancakes bread that will help you eat because there is no silverware in this restaurant. You eat with your hands, the original way. Even the coffee time is a whole experience because it has a whole ceremony around it. I won’t spoil that moment. You have to go and see!The food is very good, the staff is very kind and well spirited. Ask them about Eritrea and Eritrean culture and you’ll hear the story of how tiramisu is actually originated from there. A good gastronomic experience all together.

Very good, service is niceBut they give too little bread, when asked for more, they give little and the lady said this bread costs us money, she makes us uncomfortable to ask for more again.They dont even give us cultry to eat with.So how shall we eat!They can put bread as an item in the menu, and Id pay for it, but they even didnt offer it.I am not believing that we have to discuss how to eat the food (comfortably)

Honestly one of the tastiest meals I have had. Pricing was a little steep since I did not become perfectly full. But honestly they more than enough made up for it with friendly staff, good service and sublime food

My taste glands revived after eating the amazing spicy food here ! Amazing ambience. Great Food and also in Good Quantity along with a lovely staff. The meat was well cooked and boy for an Indian guy too the food was spicy!The biggest surprise to me was we have to eat with Hands ! Was fun! Would love to come here again

Very, very tasty food if you like an international kitchen. Definitely recommend it if youre ever in the neighbourhood. Also a fun experience to dine with your hands. And no its not dirty, as they clean your hands before and after.In the photo the dish beneath is the vegetarian combination and above is the combination with Meat.

It was my first time trying Eritrean cuisine and it exceeded expectations!! The restaurant is beautifully decorated and the owners were so hospitable.

Really a wonderful dining experience. Visiting from Chicago, and this has been one of my favorite restaurant experiences so far. The owners were super sweet, they invited me to eat after they were preparing to close their kitchen. <3 The food was beyond tasty. Im a deep lover of Ethiopian food, and definitely found Asmaras to be amongst the best I have head. I appreciated the quality of the food, the perfect blend of spices and heat, and the quality and freshness of their injera. Its clear they make it homemade. The only thing I wish was that the salad had more greens, and they served more injera with their combo meat platter.Also had the tiramisu for desert, wow! it was some of the best I have ever had. The creme top was fluffy and soooo sweet (not overwhelmingand the cake bottom was moist and perfect.Will be stopping back here during my next visit.

Greatly spiced food served by very friendly staff, even sharing some of the culture and traditions. Portioning is amazing, flavours awesome. Definitely a go-to for authentic extraordinary dining experience. Good value for money, extremely reasonably priced, and very diverse. Includes many vegetarian options. Clean toilets.

Good tasty food. For vegetarians, the Shiro was delicious. Theres a tasting dish for meat thats called Hwswas Asmara. They give loads of Injera, so dont feel obligated with just the amount they give at first.They also bring the hand wash to you. Quite an unique experience in the Netherlands

Good food, pleasant staff. The waiting time is a lot. Not a place for a quick bite. But once food comes, everything takes delicious. We tried the entire vegetarian menu, everything was tasty.

A really nice typically African restaurant offering you a decent menu and its local beer.We called for a dish called "Nay Tsom Hwswas". It is served with injera rolls. It has 5 different types of curries served.We tried beers there too. For people fond of sweet drinks, Mongozo beer is the drink. They have 3 varieties of Mongozo - Mango, coconut and Banana. They serve that in a coconut shell that we can drink from.It was the first time i tried African food and I really liked it.Must try.

Nice local restaurant with good food and cute vibe. The staffs are friendly and Mongozo mango beer is really refreshing. After youre done with eating, your clothes will smell like food for a while. However, I enjoyed my experience at this restaurant.

The owner is a African original woman, she really knows what is Africa. She makes excellent tradition coffee and she has a strong fun personality. She host you like friends and the food is so different from the food you can eat daily.

I tried this restaurant for the first time with a group of friends. The staff was very warm and friendly. The food was great, the meat was very tender and the vegetables were really tasty. The whole experience was very interesting and it differs a lot from the usual western dinner. I would recommend the beer in the picture.PS: be aware that almost all the food is spicy!

Dont miss the coffee. Smooth and flavourful. Sampler platter is a good way to taste many of the dishes at once, but spinach wins.

I was looking for something alternative, and Im very happy with what I found here! The whole dinner was a special event. Starting from the friendly and servant owners, willing to explain everything even in English. To the ritual of washing your hands and eating with them! All the menu options looked very interesting, from fish to many meats and even vegan. We went for the mixed plate, just to try more and cannot recommend it enough!The house red wine was also good enough. Surprisingly the desserts, even if not afrikan, tiramisù and baklava, were really really good! Thats because homemade by some friends of the owners. Last but not the least, low price for what weve got! Well come back for sure

A unique dining experience (no cutlerywith authentic East African decor, atmosphere and food. We loved eating here not only for the experience but the food was genuinely delicious and the service was warm, friendly and personal. After the meal we enjoyed their amazing coffee and deserts!! Overall we highly recommend "Asmara" and wish Makda continued success.

I love ethiopian food and I have to say that the injera they serve is quite special. I usually eat in this kind of restaurants and I wanted to try it here in Eindhoven while I was spending some days in the city. The bread was so good! The texture looks like other injera bread but the taste was much better.They offer some vegan dishes and we tried the vegan mix. You eat wit your hands and if you choose this course you can eat different options: lentils, spinach, chickpeas, potato... Really friendly and helpful staff that explains you interesting details about the food and drinks.Friendly atmosphere and nice decoration. Located in the center of the city. I recommend it! I ate there twice in a week and I will come back when I´m here again in Eindhoven.

This is one restaurant anyone who loves food should visit.. to cut short everything about this place is AMAZING...but still my experience in bullet points!Ambience - 10/10Presentation of the food -9/10Taste - 10/10Service - 10/10 (the lady here is so warm and hospitable)I have tastes ethiopian food before, but what makes this place the best for me is the taste of Injera, it has that sour flavor which comes by natural fermentation I believe. Apart from food, what drew my attention is the coffee making setup at the entrance of the restaurant, I would want to go back and have the coffee..I would revisit this place :Nothing like good food combined with great service!!P.S Do taste the coconut and mango beer!!

We had a pretty good dinning experience. We were 5 in total and everyone enjoyed the food and the ambience. The host lady was very warm and welcoming. Explained us a bit of coffee flavours of africa and how its made traditionally.Overall something worth visiting and trying if you are a foodie.
