Rebuilt iconic Buddhist temple, originally erected in 1049, designed to resemble a lotus blossom.
One Pillar Pagoda in Ha Tinh
Description
Privilege
This is a restored pagoda of something that was constructed some hundreds of years ago. This was destroyed during the war and built back only in 1990s (98 maybe?). It’s a simple structure, pagoda built on a single pillar and said to be one of it’s kind in the world. However, it might be underwhelming if you are coming all the way to only see this one pagoda.
MoreVery peaceful. Nice shaded areas to sit.
One of the peaceful places in Hanoi to visit, soo serene and positive vibes.Must visit when in Hanoi
MoreIt was raining when i walk around. I thought i can go straight to pillar pagoda but then have to go first at ho chi minh museum.
MoreThis Buddhist temple is within the Ho Chi Ming Mausoleum Complex. The architecture is very unique as the pagoda sits on a single pillar. It’s one of the national symbols of Vietnam. The area is very calm and serene, a contrast to the bustling streets of Hanoi, as here is an oasis of calm amidst old buildings. It’s a great place to escape the heat if you’re in Hanoi during the summer months. It’s also a great place to watch people pray to the Buddha. Come here to experience another side of the city.
MoreIts pretty to see but not amazing. Also because its near the Ho Chi Minh musoleum you have to enter into this heavily guarded military area, where t.shirts (shoulder coveringand masks are a requirement (which I found very weird as its all outside!). I didnt like being in this "military area" and was pleased to be out! Photos arent allowed either.
MoreThe One Pillar Pagoda is located at Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum. Its an important place of worship and a nice touristic spot. Worth a visit.
MoreThe pagoda is a historic Buddhist temple in the center of Ba Dinh district. It is truly an interesting place to see: from its story to its architecture. On sunny day, you can take a short break in the nearby stone chairs and enjoy the gentle breeze.
Moreone pillar pagoda, its called because there is only 1 support pole in the middle of the pool, apart from another support for the stairs leading into it. the shape of this temple resembles the shape of a lotus. unfortunately the pond under this temple not filled or overgrown with lotuses. emptiness pool.we didnt go up inside the temple because of the long queue. the ancient feel of this building and the raindrops atmosphere is enough to enjoy this location.
MoreLocated nearby Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum,The pagoda is a historic Buddhist temple in the central Ba Đình district (near the Thăng Long Citadel), Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam. The most famous part of this architecture complex is Liên Hoa Đài (means Lotus Stationwhich is a temple with special structure: a building laid on one pillar. The original pagoda was built in 1049, had some additions and be perfected in 1105.
MoreVery much a tourist site. Im not impressed by the structure itself, but I liked the lilies in the pond, and the very amusing pictures on the wall - depicting what might happen to you (as a Buddhistin the next life. Not worth making a trip for, but youre likely to come across it when visiting other sites.

Probably one of the prettier displays Ive seen in Hanoi!Very worth the 10 minutes to visit!
MoreBuilt of wood on a single stone pillar, the pagoda is designed to resemble a lotus blossom, the symbol of purity, rising out of a sea of sorrow. One of the last acts of the French before quitting Hanoi in 1954 was to destroy the original One Pillar Pagoda; the structure was rebuilt by the new government.
MoreOne pillar pagoda. Beautiful treed location. Calm vibe lovely location. Do not wear shorts if you want to go up the steps to the pagoda🩳
MorePretty cuteThe architecture is really interesting, there is a pond around it and many cool treesThere was not a ton of people there when we got thereYou’ll be able to walk up the steps, it’s worth it
MoreThe temple was built by Emperor Lý Thái Tông, who ruled from 1028 to 1054. According to the court records, Lý Thái Tông was childless and dreamt that he met the bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara, who handed him a baby son while seated on a lotus flower. Lý Thái Tông then married a peasant girl that he had met and she bore him a son. The emperor constructed the temple in gratitude for this in 1049, having been told by a monk named Thiền Tuệ to build the temple, by erecting a pillar in the middle of a lotus pond, similar to the one he saw in the dream.
MoreOne-pillar pagoda is also known with other names as Mat pagoda, Dien Huu pagoda or Lien Hoa Dai. According to ancient history, the pagoda was built by King Ly Thai Tong in the winter of 1049. Ly Thai Tong dreamed of seeing Quan Am Buddha meditating on a glowing lotus throne, taking his hand to lead the king on the radio. In the dream, the king set up the pagoda with a architecture like in a dream. From then on, one saw a pagoda with a unique pillar structure, resembling a lotus-like figure rising up the middle of Linh Chieu lake in Thang Long citadel. After erecting the pagoda, King Ly Anh Tong frequented and prayed. Not long after, the Queen gave birth to a handsome Prince. Assuming that the Buddhas merit was given, King Ly allowed the temple to be repaired and erected another temple next to the temple to give thanks.
MoreOne Pillar Pagoda is located behind Vietnam Maoselleum and dedicated for the temple one. Its location is actually in the open space garden and lots of people is going there after visiting Maoselleum. They have small stairs to climb up and there is Avalokitesvara with lots of hand in gold colour. After that u can go inside, they have 3 little houses there where u can go inside to see more statues which represents different type of God. Please open your shoes before entering the houses. U can see monks that doing the ritual in the morning and the evening (they read Holy words from Tripitaka). After they finished read it then they will ring the bell by using log of wood in the evening. U can also do prayer here and u can donate the money here. They did not put any charge for the entering fee. U can see lots of travel come here and surround it u can buy drinks or souvenirs or snacks.
MoreA bit difficult to spot at first as you have to enter through the Ho Chi Minh mausoleums security checkpoints. It is in a corner in the same premises, killing two birds with one stone!
MoreIt functions as a place of worship, but it is full of tourists. The temple is very small and cute!To enter this area cover shoulders and legs going into this area! Also you go through a metal detector!
MoreThe small Pagoda and the area sorrounding it is very beautiful. It is located on the same area where the Ho Chi Minh Tomb is located and there are two entries very separated one from the other. Security guards might take items like lighters from you and keep them in the security control until you get out.
MoreThis is one of my favourite places in Hanoi. I wasnt sure how to get in there but you have to go through security check points. Theyll stop you if you are not dressed appropriately.
MoreDefinitely must visit/see if when you’re already within this area along with museum, mausoleum. Have to remember that wearing shorts is forbidden to enter the pagoda. So either you stay outside and take photos or wear some Long pants or covered it with sarong or Long shawl.
MoreSingle Pillar Pagoda made by the late king in Hanoi marks to keep evil out from the city. Temples next to Pagoda is worth visiting. Also there is Communist party museum to be checked by people having that inclination. Overall the place can be avoided if you dont have interest in both of the two things above.
MoreLovely temple behind Ho Chi Minhs tomb. Quite full of tourists, but beautiful. Several interesting things to see nearby as well so its worth doing in conjunction with the other sites.
MoreIt was heavy rain when I was there. But design of temple is nice. Its next to ho chin min museum. Calm place.
MoreThis is within a park that has Ho Chi Minhs tomb and you have to wear clothing that covers shoulders and knees. The pagoda is quite small and its supported only by one pillar. Its pretty cool.
MoreThe pagoda is quite remarkable to see and is beautifully restored. It is near the park, and memorials to Ho Chi Minh and these are even more interesting and notable.
MoreBeautiful place and next to it there is a lady selling fruits. I bought 2 packs of fruits and she gave me 3 extra for free and refused to take any money for it. I was shocked and I wish I can do something to make that lady happy. Kind people still exist. I pray she always be happy and blessed.
MoreUnique architecture. Lots of tourists visiting this place. The best photo shooting time is around 12pm to 1pm when the weather is hot.
MoreSmall but it is an icon of Hanoi capital. The police manage this area very tight since the pagoda located right inside Ho Chi Minh museum palace. Many people come here on the first day of months, especially the 1st day of the lunar new year.
MoreNear the Ho chi Minh museum very close. İf you go to museum dont pass this pagoda without visiting. Very colorful place.
MoreDefinitely something to see. In the complex where Ho Chi Minhs stilt house is located and his Mausoleum.Unique that it is built on 1 pillar.
MoreVery intriguing courtyard. Has very interesting and informative poster in Buddhist teachings. Nice garden and park. Nearby markets arent pushy.
MoreThe temple is built of wood on a single stone pillar 1.25 m in diameter and 4 m in height, and it is designed to resemble a lotus blossom, which is a Buddhist symbol of purity, since a lotus blossoms in a muddy pond
MoreIconic pagoda, interesting to see when in Hanoi, but not mind blowing in any sense. Try to go there when it’s not too sunny as the walk to get there can get though under the sun. Too bad you can’t go further inside the parc to wander around as every alley is closed by a guard.
MoreThis place is just beside the Ho Chi Minh Complex. This place is ok for visit. But it is so hot during the later part of the day, so try to carry a hat to save yourself from the scorching heat.
MoreBeautiful place, need full day to appreciate the awesomeness! Well worth the visit.Massive market outside, be sure to visit, some prices very high and some, very reasonable.
MoreThe proud of Vietnamese people back to 1049. The symbol for Vietnam independence after thousand years was dominated by chinese. I love buddhism 🤩🤩🤩
MoreBeautiful historical place. Maintained very well. The temple was located in what was then the Tây Cấm Garden in Thạch Bảo, Vĩnh Thuận district in the capital Thăng Long (now known as Hanoi). The temple was built by Emperor Lý Thái Tông, who ruled from 1028 to 1054.No entry fee in this place.
MoreBy name youll amaze how come an entire pagoda structure could stand on one pillar, but it is in reality. Situated by the lake it has a pleasing ambiance and aroma of sandalwood sticks.
MoreI had some difficulty getting here due to a visit from the President of India but it was definitely a highlight of my self guided walking tour of Hanoi. Be sure to read about the lore of this temple...its a beautiful story.
MoreSmall pagoda behind Ho Chi Minh’s mausoleum. One pillar makes it unique, but there is not more interesting about it.Access to the temple is difficult, especially after 11:00 am, when mausoleum is closed.
MoreIt’s beautifully maintained Pagoda. Should not take more then 15 minutes to visit. Can be done while visiting other nearby places
MoreRight inside the Ho Chi Minh complex, next to Ho Chi Minh mausoleum and Presidential Palace. Unique structure!
MoreIt is a 1st national treasure in Vietnam. It seems to be the just small Buddhisms architecture, though, many people have been beliving its particulated ability. When anyone else want to get a baby, after bowing on the upstare, stepping down to the ground, and then turning toward right 3times. Finally their dream should be into true.If someone do not have any interesting about earning a baby, and do not like to walk around in hottest summer season, i wont suggest you to visit here.
MoreGreat place to visit. Nice ancient one pillar temple.Visited after mausoleum since just right beside of it. Entrance is free, so dont worry about it.The temple looks smaller than what Ive expected but worth a visit. A bit crowded when I was there, imagine a small temple with ton of visitors.
MoreThe view is amazing bcs it really stand by one pillar. The smell was typical. I thought this will be bigger, but this is much smaller than what Ive imagined. Located at a strategical place. This place is worth to come to, unfortunately a bit dirty.
MoreOnly an hour or so is required to visit, but it is really interesting. Very tranquil by Ho Chi Minhs pillar house.
