Wine & small plates in a cozy establishment inspired by the informal bacaros of Venice.
Italian speaking here 😉Food is fusion def not authentic Italian recipes as gnocchi with kale is very funny. Other meal combinations as well.Drinks are also not Italian style. They are watery, they dont use fresh prosecco for cocktails and yes I can tell you as I am from Veneto where those drinks are.Atmosphere is very very nice and our waiter was awesome as well. Thats why it auch a shame that is not true Italian but understand they need to make a fusion menu for the local taste. If you are Italian or European, maybe go to another restaurant as it is not worth the price.
This place is one of the best restaurants to come to if you are staying in Wellington! Ombra is always a popular restaurant to eat at and its difficult to get a seat, unless you arrive right when it opens. The food there is absolutely amazing and very good for the price, making it way worth the money. The restaurant has kept the original interior, rather than painting over it and making it modernized. It has a great atmosphere and the servers are always smiling and happy to help. I had the mozzarella pizza and the potato pizza and those were very tasty. Overall, this is a good restaurant if you are willing to spend a bit on getting a delicious meal and I would highly recommend it!
Very disappointed. I booked a table on Tuesday for Saturday night at 9:15pm. We showed up exactly at time and ordered some food as a starter so that we can order the rest of the food 10 min after. All the food and drinks arrived at the same time which was a bit strange as being in the hospitality industry, it is not really great if you get your food before your drinks. I didnt really mind that but after 15 minutes I wanted to order some more food as our mains, just to find out that the kitchen is not making hot food any more!!! After 15-20 minutes of our reservation. Never coming back again. Ombra is not what it used to be.
Authentic Italian dishes, great presentation and choice. Designed to share but can be eaten as individual as well.Quick but not rushed service, table turn over high.
Superb fresh flavour-filled Italian food to share. Great atmosphere and service. Highly recommend
Yummy food and an amazing menu. Dishes were very well cooked and the coffee was good. Definitely recommended.
Ombra is a great example of the restaurants we love the most. They use ingredients that we can’t find ( the baccala was so, so good), use others in new ways (the burrata components were perfect together), and deliver on comfort foods too (for my husband, this was his perfectly cooked steak). The service was great - really nice guy. We had a great time. Alone, coming to Ombra is worth a trip to Wellington.
This was absolutely delightful and tasteful, with culinary mouth watering dishes. We choose fish, meatballs, bread, and a gorgeous salad containing beetroot and soft cheeses. The dessert was gorgeous a taramasu and a marmalade honey flavoured melt in the mouth wonder. The staff were professional, pleasant and knowledgeable. There was an extensive drinks list, but staff will advise. I cannot wait until our next visit, yum.
Great food. Very delicious. Arrived fast..service was good. Clean. Recommend it.
Delicious food, especially the gnocchi & volcano dessert, friendly and efficient staff, looking forward to the next time 🥰.
What a fabulous restaurant! Bustling and busy but very attentive staff. Most dishes are designed for sharing. Those we tried were delicious. Too bad were not staying in Wellington longer. Wed be back!
Lovely little restaurant. Dishes are designed for sharing so you get a nice selection of food and it is all amazing. The gnocchi was sublime. Staff are very friendly and attentive. Pricing was good as well. It all comes out very fast so great if going to a show after too.
we came to Ombra randomly hoping to get a table for 4 was a bit busy, they said we could sit at the bar in wait a table should be free soon. anyways we ordered some drinks then some amazing food we ended up sitting there for the night. everything was perfect, it was interesting sitting on the bar watching things tick by. food n drinks spot on and the service
Just went here for the cocktail for WOAP, what a fantastic experience. Great service, friendly staff, excellent cocktail
WOAP entry, Club Exotique. The wild tahr-pork patty combination had the right balance that went well with the velvety, rich and creamy mascarpone. Together with the other layered ingredients, they all complemented each other. The Tiramisu was just as rich and tasty. The staff were as nice and friendly as ever!
Amazing Foods, Nice customer service.Everything fresh and tasty.Highly Recommend😊 We will come back.
The food was pretty average and lacked flavour. Very disappointing.
The vest gnocchi Ive had in my life. Great for a date night. Best to get a whole lot of foods and share
The best Italian I’ve had in NZ! Been here a couple times now, really love it. The mushroom risotto is a fave!
Everything was very nice. Very busy restaurant, the service was good too. We shared a few different plates and I did enjoy each one, however the steak was exceptionally good. So I recommend getting that and not sharing it : )
First time dining, I really love the food, my favourites were the risotto and polenta chips. In my opinion one of the best restaurants in Wellington.
Every time we visit Wellington, it is in our itinerary. It has a season menu so every time you go, there will be something interesting to try due to its tapas style dinning.Tip:Sit at the bar and start with a Cocktail - Basil Smash whilst you watch the wonderful food keep passing you and tempting you to order.Duck Risotto is a must as is the lamb rump. After that choose anything and you will not be disappointed.Update:Still good!!!
Possibly the BEST meal Ive ever had. We got the gnocchi and a prawn pizza, both were absolutely perfect. Service was friendly. Highly recommend if youre visiting Wellington.
Had an absolutely lovely time here. Great atmosphere and friendly staff. Food is really delicious. Will not regret trying this place out!
Went for lunch yesterday, second time going to Ombra and it has quickly become one of me and my boyfriends favourite restaurants. All of the food weve tried so far has been incredible and really generous portions, service is always excellent. Also love that they change the menu up a bit each month, cant wait to come back
Ombra appeared very busy when we popped in for a meal. The fabulous staff made a space at the bar where we met a lovely young barman who helped us with the menu. We shared potato pizza, with garlic and truffle. Desserts to follow. Tiramasu and poached pear. All very very delicious and great Cafe ambiance. Worth another visit, but we live in Ellerslie! Ciao.
A big thank you to the Ombra team for the wonderful dinner experience on Saturday. Ombra has been our favourite restaurant over the last 6 years and this was the first time we brought our 8 month year old daughter for dinner on Saturday. We had great food and great service and the staff were very accommodating of our little one which was most appreciated.
Had the Panna cotta + the sage butter gnocchi. This place lives rent free in my head because every bite I had was pure bliss 🤤 Im making a beeline for this place next time Im in wellington again
Nice Italy food and great service!
Lovely tasty food, enjoyed everything we ate and the service was good. Only negative is that the table are so close together you are pretty much dining with the strangers seated next to you.
Great place to go with your friends to enjoy your evening and try out their Menu. The food was amazing and the service was even better. Great team .I will definitely come back every time I visit Wellington . Thanks
10/10. Best Italian my partner and I have had in a long time. Service was brilliant, waiters were always making sure we were OK, topping up water etc and all around really knew their stuff. We didn’t book but they squeezed us in. Would recommend!!
The experience is probably one of the best in Wellington. The idea of sharing a lot of plates and taste different foods is awesome. Everything we try wasn’t good, it was EXCELLENT!! I’m already looking forward to going back and try the rest of the menu! By the way, the people working there and their energy is also lovely, thanks to them for the great experience!
This is literally the best restaurant in Wellington, if I made more money I would go everyday no cap. Their gnocchi is literally to die for; like I would actually kill for their gnocchi. If you want good food and good service come to ombra. I love them.
It’s a really great dinner in Wellington for me! My partner and I went Wellington for our 5th anniversary. We chose to go to Ombra to celebrate it, it’s really great Italian food and good service! Particularly Alex :). We didn’t book a timetable but Alex tried to help us to have a table for us, that is really sweet and nice.Btw, My favorite is the market fish!
Amazing service from the staff. Wide range of dishes from the menu, this place caters well to the vegetarians. We ordered the risotto, gnocchi and pizza and the food was definitely good value for money, super filling as well. This place is worth checking out, thanks guys for a good night
Incredible food and even better service. Cant beat a $9 aperol spritz. The market fish was amazing
Still delivering the absolute goods after 12 years when I use to come here living in Wellington. Excellent food, excellent service.
A cozy Italian. Had dinner myself so couldn’t try much but all the dishes from other tables are looking stunning. Friendly and helpful staffs.Had new season sweet carrot salad with yogurt and apricot. The seasoning has a bit of cumin and pistachio and something. Absolutely meltingThe pizza base wasn’t crunchy as I would expect but overall it was nice. Could be the one that I ordered.
Had a fantastic time. Both of us had a drink, shared two pizzas and each had dessert. Was very reasonable, I recommend. We had an early booking and that was nice because it did get louder as the evening went on :)
The food was not bad with generous amount of pasta and Risotto. If they had more meat dish it would be better. It has a good atmosphere
Beautiful ambience and happened to arrive during aperitif time.I ordered the duck risotto and it was delicious. I feel they could do with a few more gluten free options though.
The nduja pizza was pretty good, reminding me of some good pizza I’ve had in Italy whereas the coppa pizza was kinda disappointing, flavourless.. we didn’t enjoy it much.
Anchovy pizza and the polenta chips were great.Reasonable prices, fast food and service was ok.Cons waitress took my plate when I was still chewing the last piece...for me that is a big NOT to do in service. Other that that was fine.
Meatball sauce had tuna in it which was really interesting to try. I liked it! Gnocchi wad recommended to us but I dont think it was my taste. It was a bit soft and sticky for me. Staff were really friendly!! Enjoyed their happy hour drinks!
Amazing service! Very trendy place. You basically order course by course and share everything which is a different and enjoyable experience. The food is very tasty. We had the polenta, grilled courgette, and steak with a tiramisu to finish. Tiramisu was very average but everything else was thoroughly enjoyable. A great experience nonetheless.
Food was fantastic and the portions were just right for sharing. Good vibe and atmosphere, and music wasnt too loud that it drowned out conversation. Service was attentive. The drinks didnt hit the right notes with us though.
The restaurant was clean, wait staff were observant and attentive without being in our face. The kitchen is open so you can see meals being prepared and cooked.Personally I thought it was pricey for the size of the food, e.g. $8 for one small arancinoHowever, if $ is not a challenge then this place is bound to become a firm favourite as the wine choices are great and the food has plenty of depth in flavour. There are a few vegan, dairy free, gluten free and vegetarian options among the wide choice of meals available.
Seated across from chefs (Erald & Marcoat the bar as the place was full of happy customers. They kept us company for our delicious meal.Great food to share, ordered a bit of everything.
Excellent restaurant with stellar service. We came in during the happy hour and ordered a selection of dishes to share. The server was honest and even warned us when we might have over ordered. The food was excellent, the food came quickly and surpassed expectations. Drinks happy hour from 3-6 which includes the lovely aperol spritz
