Olumo Rock in Lagos

It is really a good place to visit in abeokuta, very historical and adventurous but the peraon in charge need to correct the map name for those who rely on map to lead them to the rock because if one search Olumo rock it only show olumo rock at Funnab not the tourist center. It is now i see animal on health ki ni kon. Abeg make a proper correction

Just a place to relax, hike and have fun.Though the government or people in charge have to put some form of barricade at the topmost part of the rock to avoid stories that touch.Overall is a good place to relax and hike.You can visit the Adire market just northward the road, choose from the array of pattern available.

It is a beautiful place to visit. Gate fee is N1000 per person. Guide expects a tip. It is an adventure for a fit person, as the lift is out of action. The toilet is dirty, and you have to be really desperate to use it.

Great attraction, do not climb if you are scared of heights, or stay extremely close to the tour guide. The rock has some real history behind it including its influence in the name of the states capital "Abeokuta" meaning "under the rock or under rock/stone".You get a great birds eye view of the quiet thriving city of Abeokuta, lots of stops in between levels, the rock is a lot higher than one would think, at its highest peak, it is over 10 stories talls.

It was a nice visit and a good experience with a lovely tourist guide he was so professional and lovely recommend him for anybody visiting nice place to go

Ive visited a couple of times and I must commend the upkeep of the facility. The staff are knowledgeable and nice. The challenge is the fluctuations with their pricing and the pestering of visitors for tips (moneyeven after one has already gotten their ticket.

Olumo Rock 😁😁😁Heard about this place ever since,maybe primary school cos it was in all our readers and social studies book.If youre not Nigerian,is one of our popular tourist sites located in the west.Serving in Ogun state, I used the opportunity to visit this rock on a day special to me.If youre not driving I advise you go by bike 🏍️🛵 because its straight to the place. From immigration in Abeokuta to the site was 800 Naira not more than 20 minutes.We arrived then paid for tickets at the gate. The prices are on the gate.Then we advanced into the premises 😁😁The premises is clean and serene, we were greeted by a tour guard who said well have to appreciate him after the tour 🤣🤣🤣 (show him love... Then he took us to the art gallery before the rock.... Beautiful gallery with rich work of arts, after that we went to the foot of the rock... Forgot to say there are two options either you go up through the elevator or the stairs the options is yours ( youve to pay #2500 for the elevator jsyk), I choosed the stairs cos thats where the adventure lies 😁😁😁As we went through the stairs he explained the cultural significance of the rock, they are alot of shrines there just so you know its and ancient site although nothing to fear 🤣🤣...It was fun,Getting to the top of the rock was the climax of the adventure as you could see the whole city from the topI recommend this site for anybody

Interesting historical site. The tour guide narrated the rich cultural background of the Abeokuta people and the significance of Olumo rock and its meaning. It was a good learning experience for me and my family.

From lagos to Olumo rock theres a very good road I most say, from berger is approx 1 hr to olumo rock. We had so much fun here, good sighting and rich stories. When youre going, take your games and drinks you can take them up through the stairs and have fun up when its not a public holiday or festive period. Its usually crowded during festive periods, I had fun.

Olumo rock is an ancient historical site in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria.It served as a hiding place for the Egba warriors many years ago. The warriors defeated their enemies with the help of the rock.The rock has a hanging plant and the water that drips from this plant is believed to cure sicknesses and grant heart desires if you believe in it.It is a nice place to be and a visit to Abeokuta isnt complete without a tour at Olumo rock.Isé ya!

Awesome tourist attraction in Abeokuta... The history of the rock and the warriors were a delight to be told.Ill visit again and again and again.

It a very good place for ancient sight seeing, especially if you love road trip and ancient story, but the place need serious maintenance and upkeep, lift are not working only stairs. If you afraid of height pls dont go cause there are dangerous walk way you gonna have to climb to reach the top

My experience was more of an adventure and dreams come true. At first, growing up, Ive always watched Olumo Rock on TV. Sincerely I always wanted to see this Rock, to know that magic that it possessed to the extent of being worshipped by the locals (traditionalists). Today, I found myself here!Honestly, I had goosebumps just by seeing the gate, paid a fee of #1000 at the entrance and was warmly welcomed by the tour guide. He then took us to the gallery and explained sooo many historical stuffs which were interesting.Then, went for the Rock.. it was fun.. beautiful Arial view, the brown colour roof indicated indeed abeakuta was an old city preserved by nature!

A National Treasure... Beautiful environment, the rock formations are amazing... Tour Guides and other staff were fantastic... Theres an Art and Heritage Gallery where you can buy pieces of art, some native items and some books... The shrines custodians were walm and very welcoming... A wonderful experience

A great hiking location. Id recommend you experience this with the help of a tour guide (youd get one for an average of #1,000at the entrance, for their rendition of songs, narration of historic/strategic spots is what makes the journey to the top quite interesting. Enjoy the art galleries just after the entrance, the views from various points while ascending, Abeokuta from a birds eye. Most importantly? Take along one or two bottles of water and wear super comfy sneakers. Enjoy your time out there!Gate fee is currently #1,000.

The entrance fee is affordable. The staffs were friendly. The environment is neat. The art gallery before the rock is full of creative arts, crafts, cultural heritage, and traditional wear for interior decoration and art enthusiasts. The Olumo rock, which is about 136m above the sea level can be accessed through stairs provided, then through the ancient route used in the olden days by the Egba people during the wartime for meetings. The ancient route passage made the climbing experience more adventurous with the aid of a tour guide. It was a memorable moment climbing the great Olumo rock.

I would recommend Olumo Rock anyday. Its history and rich history at that. Its always best that you go with a guide.Visited twice and both times were made exceptional by the guides who choose us because we honestly didnt chose them, they just decided they would do it and that was it! Their wealth of knowledge cannot be bought honestly.Please visit the gallery, even if its to just listen to the curators perspective BUT they actually have nice art and gifts.The elevator still isnt working though and I honestly wonder why it was put in there.Anyways, I included some pictures to nudge you to visit. Very well run & maintained. The reception staff and tour guides were very hospitable, friendly, patient and endearing.Most importantly very affordable & family friendly.

Nice family place. I didnt use the elevator so no idea if it works well. 272 stairs in all to the very top, and its a great view from up there. Ensure to stay hydrated!!!

ABEOKUTA means UNDER THE ROCK... During the war time in olden days... The accient indigene of ABEOKUTA hid under the Rock, the name of that rock they hid under is OLUMO ROCK. My trip to OLUMO rock was awesome...Entry fee is #1,000...The destination has a ample car park that can take up to 50cars... At the foot of the rock I saw hall, museum and another building.They have 3 different Panoramic Lifts but unfortunately none of them is working.My trip to the mountain 🏔️ top was with the staircase constructed for the easy access.The first level of the mountain I saw Olumo Shrine... I was told they open the shrine door once in every year... August 5th every year. They told me two people are allowed to enter the shrine, the king of Egba land and the chief Priest.We ascend the second level of the Mountain by the accient stairs case made of rock... But the stairs was modified by government to allow everyone to have access.The top of the mountain is a bit scary going there via the accient stairs... It is advisable to go there with a good sneaker 👟.On top of the rock you can barely see the entire ABEOKUTA. I love the scene on top of the rock.I enjoyed every moment in Olumo... I will go there again with my wife😃

Everything about this place is a thrill! Its a cultural and historical heritage to behold and enjoy. Standing atop gives one a view of Abeokuta.Its about 15 minutes from the city centre. Requires a gate fee of 1,000 Naira per person, to be paid at the gate. The fee includes a tour around the art galleries and the climb all the way to the peak of the rock.The items in the art galleries are fairly priced, ranging from 1k to 5M. Items ranging from paintings, wall art, jewelry, African print attires, locally made beauty products, antique decor pieces etc.The climb up the rock is a flight of unassuming stairs which when completed is a total of about 150 steps (according to the guide). The tour guides know their onions! Every part of the rock has a unique feature to it!There is also shrine somewhere in there!The scary part of climbing to the peak after the flight of stairs is an absolute thrill!!!Best to dress up in active sport wear and sneakers!It should be a punishable offence to visit Abeokuta and not visit this place.

It is a wonderful place, Make sure you go with friends.Dont wear hills for ladies.Preferably wear sneakers ,you can use the stairs but to really appreciate the full experience, do the climbing.

A well organised place. With a very educating museum. The tour guards are helping. The history of how olumo rock came into existence was well explained. A nice view too. Theres a place for palm wine too

It is a tourist center in Abeokuta that was taken over and upgraded by the State government and since then it has been attracting a lot of tourist. The story of the Olumo rock is intertwined with that of Abeokuta. The Egba hid in the caves under the rock and it was believed that God molded the rocks for them to hide. Hence the name Olumo: meaning God molded the rocks. And after the war when the chiefs came out and was asked where they were that they were not killed during the war, they said they hid under the rock which is where the city Abeokuta got its name.There are 3 stages to the rock as it reflects the different aspects of the rock. There are traditional worshippers who continue to supplicate for the people, the state and the country. It was believed that their prayers were the reason there has not been any accidents since the inception of the place. The peak of the rocks is 137m above the sea level. It can time tiring to climb but worth every effort. There is lift at a cost if you dont want to climb. There are museums, food joint and places to buy things. It is really a nice place.

Its an historical place that hold the memory of our past heroes. Lovely for sight seeing.

Third time is a charm (they say)Here’s my third visit to this historic site and each time was a different experience.I have come to love visiting this place and I doubt I can ever get tired of scenery at the top of this mountain.This mountain holds so much history and significance to the Yoruba tribe and the stories are told with pride about how the mountain and the several claves scattered around it served as fortress to the people during the war.You’ll find aged men and women who had witnessed droves of events and visitors on the mountain and they are welcoming and cheerful too.

Exciting tourists site.Climbing the rock was fun for me and my family even though, I think the Government should ensure full operation of the elevator.

I had a blast climbing the Olumo Rock. Will be visiting again. If you like a challenge be prepared to push your body to its limit

The experience and view is just thrilling.So far there hasn’t been any reports of accidents arising from falling off the rock but there should still be more security to climbing it.In all I enjoyed the climb.

Great tourist location, the tour guides make it fun by telling you the story of the rock. You’re allowed to bring your own food and drinks. No cameras except you use your phone. There’s a stairway for those who can’t climb the rockBasically go in numbers to get the best out of your hike

An historical location that tells how the egba people came to be and survived during the war. It’s a royal relic that has specific stories about each location inside. Entrance fee is 1000 for adults and less for children. Coming as a group is better than individual. A gallery is located downstairs of the rock which has lovely arts. The olumo rock is regarded as the highest point in Abeokuta, when on top, the whole landscape can be seen. A tour guide is allocated to you to show you around. Kindly listen to the tour guide as there are scared stuffs out there.After your trip round, you are to tip the guide.

Olumo rock is home town... Seriously am really disappointed with the lack of maintenance culture. The sides of the rock is very dirty, the elevator is not working. The shrines is bringing out some strange ordure. Despite paying 1k to enter is nice to be there.

Nice place, however the government can do better with safety and maintenance. The lifts were not working, so you either have to crawl on the rocks or use the stairs to get to the peak of the rocks

Olumo Rock its a wonderful breathtaking place. I thoroughly enjoyed rock climbing experience, the art gallery. Olumo Rock is a place to visit with friends and family.

Good spot for rock climbing, with a sprinkle of cultural shopping. More fun when you climb through the old path. Tour guide gave good stories. Loved it.

The lift is not working. It is just there for decoration.If you’re coming as a group, and you don’t know history, it is advisable you pay the tour guides so that they can tell you stories about the rock, Egba people and the war.You’ll meet some women at the Orisa shrine, give them money at your free will. Don’t give in to their entitlements. Nothing will happen to you. You won’t turn to goat 🐐.Take as many pictures. If you have phobia for height, abeg stay within limits. Also no pass your boundary while on the rock.Visit the art store, they have a nice selections of crafts, clothes and artwork for sale.You’ll love it here.

My visit to Olumo rock in 2018 was an amazing one. Olumo rock is located in Abeokuta, Ogun State.We were led by the tourist guide who told us the history of the rock as we were climbing, showing us the different holes in the rocks where the Egba people hid from the enemies during the war in the past. Still present is an old tree they said is over 100years, spots showing where they grinded things in those days etc. Theres also an elevator but It didnt work the day we went.Standing on the top of the rocks youd have a beautiful of the houses surrounding that area. Be sure to always go with a bottle of water as you might be tired while climbing. The 2nd tourist guide was kind enough to take some pictures of us when we asked and he sure did a good job.On our way down we bought some cold palm wine, you need to relax after all 😂Theres also a store to buy some artworks and artefacts.Overall its a good place to visit and you get to learn history about the Egba people as well.

The experience was a very nice one, the view from the top is beautiful. I feel they should repair the elevators, it’s not everyone that can climb the rocks or stairs.The art gallery downstairs is very beautiful and full of different things for art lovers inasmuch as some pieces of art are incredibly expensive but what do I know?? 😂

The Olumo Rock Tourist center is still the top tourist attraction here in Abeokuta but still need a lot of work to be done.Infrastructural development and renovations need to be done on the site, top of the mountain and around the whole place, as well as the staffs and tourist guides.Had a good experience all the same, the gallery is probably my favorite part of the whole arena and the view from up the rock is actually magnificent.

The experience was awesome. The best time to go is when the sun is down. The Tour takes only about 2hours max. The gate fee is N1000 per Adult and N500 per Child. Google map can lead you if you dont know the way. The elevator was not working at the time of my visit.

Awesome place to visit, it also grants you access to know Abeokuta histories and how the name came about. There are people to attend to people there irrespective of your religion or tribe..... Try and visit,you wont regret it

Always a pleasure being here. I still wonder when the elevators will be fixed seeing that people come here with kids and have to go through all that stress compulsorily to get up or sit it out after paying entrance fee.

I enjoyed my trip to Olumo Rock in Abeokuta in Ogun state. It was a combination of both exercise and fun filled experience starting from the cultural museum to climbing to the top of the rock. The rock has different stages and what they signified which was explained to us by the tour guide. I was also able to reach the top of the rock. I would recommended Olumo rock to any visitor of Abeokuta in Ogun state

Enjoyed climbing the rock and the tour guides were fantastic. It was a wonderful experience in all but it would have made more sense if the elevator was working so that people that are scared of heights could easily go up the rock as well. Its a beautiful view from the top and quite educative and entertaining as well. Ill definitely come back some time time

The Olumo Rock is a place to visit. I enjoyed every bit of the adventure. The Tour guide, Jerry had a good grasp of the history of the Rock. Would definitely make a repeat visit.
