Elegant 16th-century cathedral with baroque & rococo architecture, a large organ & concerts.
Intricate art, highly recommended
Well-maintained cathedral located in one of the most beautiful parts of Gdańsk. Inside you’ll find an extensive collection of art and discretely placed plaques documenting the history of the church and the local area.
Amazing interior space but go when you can enjoy the organ. Mr. Martin, organist, gave us a composite selection of about 6 excerpts including R Jones Intrada (personal favourite). The angels were smiling! Highly recommended.
Impressive and huge.A must if in the area.We caught by coincidence an organ concert on a Sunday,15 pm,but I dont know if this is on a regular basis.
Great design and nice free concert In summer if you like classic music
We walked in to look at the beautiful expositions and ended up staying for the breathtakingly beautiful organ concert! This was a wonderful experience I will never forget.
Nice cathedral with one of the oldest and once largest organ in Europe. Garden around the cathedral is very nice with water bodies around and and greenhouse.
Very impressive.
Unique cathedral with lots of altars and of the biggest choral organs.
Beautiful church, massive organ. And decorative altars.
Historical church, from 1100, very Beautiful and the organ is really nice to listen
Barock stali architecture, originated in 13 centery. We expired amazing organ concert.
Oliwa Cathedral was erected as a Cistercian church in the thirteenth century as a Gothic, three-nave basilica. It was built on the plan of a Latin cross, measuring 107 metres and is the longest church in Poland. Its beautiful interior conceals many art treasures: numerous altars, a Rococo pulpit, great stalls or Renaissance portraits of numerous benefactors of the Cistercian monastery. In the central part of the monumental presbytery you can find the main Baroque altar. Its “earthly sphere” consists of black columns arranged in a semicircle and “heavenly sphere” is a vision of heaven: stucco clouds and angel heads.
A beautiful catholic cathedral.
A very atmospheric place known for organ concerts. I definitely recommend it
Some of the most wonderful artwork ever seen outside of museums & dont get me started on the Stained Glass - Phenomenal
Woderful place! The interior is stunning, highly recommended. The adjacent gardens are also worth seeing. Very beautiful!
As you see it now, this church in the Oliwa District, some 10 kilometres northwest of the Old Town , dates to the 14th and 15th centuries.A fire gutted the interior in 1577 during the city’s rebellion, so nearly all the ornamentation is Renaissance, Mannerist and Baroque. There’s a solemn Baroque portal from 1688 at the entrance, below two narrow towers, each 46 metres tall. The nave, chancel and 23 altars are festooned with paintings by Gdańsk’s foremost artists in the 17th century. There are two main altars, one “Old” in the Late Dutch Renaissance style from 1605, and the other “New”, from 1688 and viewed as the finest piece of Baroque art in Pomerania.
Beautiful and sacred
Nice church. Remember to stay to one of the organ concerts
Looks lovely from the outside, as mass was getting conducted, didnt have the chance to get in.
From the outside, this cathedral is unremarkable. Its only when you step inside that you will discover what an incredible treasure it is. Im not a religious person myself, but I was bowled over by what I saw - the detail, the scale, the overall magnificence of the interior. It was literally breath-taking.
If you consider visiting the place, check out when organ concerts are performed. Their sound and skill made me love organ music for the first Time!
A beatiful church by a lovely little park, and a few cozy restaurants in the neighbourhood.
Lovely Cathedral, well worth the visit.
Make sure this is part of your shore excursion it’s so great and fun experience
Great place to visit. Every Sunday after the mass you can listen to short concert played on the famous organs. After visiting cathedral it is also worth to walk thru Park.
