Olivar de Juanar - National forest in Marbella, Spain
Deplorable serviceDo not eat here. We arrived for a table at 14:00 only to be seated about an hour later in a salon which had remained empty for the whole hour’s wait. The lady could not fathom how she could seat 10 customers despite there being available space for much more. We ordered a starter of surtido “iberico” which took an unnacceptable 45 minutes after being seated to arrive at the table. Surely the cook could open the package of sliced pre-packed charcuterie we were served in less time than i could drive home and cook a full hot meal. A while later a plate of the recommended (by staffalubias soups was presented. This consisted of a poly filler like puree which quite frankly lacked any resemblance to any soup i have ever tried much to my disappointment, if any more could be amassed to the already unfathomable remorse at not having left by now. An hour and five minutes later after being seated and still here whilst i write this review the solomillo finally arrives consisting of 7 mediocre undercooked medallions of pork with a ration of what i could only assume were lettuce. To summarise, go someplace else. This has been the worst experience since chronic diahorrea after eating spicy curry in thailand.
The owner is the best! Help me and my 3 friends with food and a car ride back to Marbella after we took a Uber there and went on ha hike. We dident have any cash on us. But he let us pay after the hike, when where back at our house! / 4 guys from Sweden
Nice service, good food, but the smell inside is a bit specific. If someone wants to hike in the mountains and have a close accommodation, I recommend it. Unfortunately, there is also a problem with internet coverage.
Small hotel and bar hidden in quietness, located at the starting point of La Concha hike.Good place for a drink on the way back. They allowed us to park our car in their car park.
I have only been here for a coffee, or a snack after hiking. The place is very quiet, "mountain like", and I would love to stay here in the winter time👍
Its a pity this charming place closed with the covid pandemic....its nested in a beautiful area with many hiking routes and used to end the trip with a drink or a meal at the hotel....
Grand spot,Starting location for a great 7 hour hike to La Concha Mirador and back. Fabulous walk with lots of variations of terrain.
Stayed here for five days walking break in February. Loved it. Great food, friendly staff, log fire, great walks. Simple pleasures.
Completely closed down. The entire area around the hotel/restaurant is closed off.
Nice walk followed by pleasant beer in the garden
What a superb welcome and lovely surprise to visit a place, where I havent been for a long time, (that will now changeand to have such a warm welcome back ! The atmosphere was warm ( big log fire), the staff were fun and happy, the food was absolutely delicious and the wine excellent. Every mouthful, of really superbly cooked traditional Spanish food, was excellent. Thank you Juanar and Juan!
Suite place in the mountans
Nice and quite.
10 EUR minimum for card payment at the cafe. Staff can be friendly or mediocre.
Green oasis, a hidden gem in the middle of the forest, great place to take a rest and a drink after walking.
Rural setting. Sandwiches are not very apitizing. The sangria and gelato is great. Hotel has a very rural feel
Really old looking place, old fashoned, prices extremely high for what they offer.
Enjoy hiking, walking and clean air ... restaurant and parking facilities ...
Remote place slow service nice environment
Hotel/restaurant in the woods. From here best walks in the area starts. Also to The highest mountain of the Costa Del Sol "La Concha"
Ok
Simple menu, friendly Spanish language only service. Outside terrace. Reasonably priced. Good stop off point following a hike, cycle or drive.
What a great surprise and a positive one! If you like good lodgings, great food and natural surroundings with a lot of posibilities for hiking then this is your choise.
Great place to hike! There were 6 routes that we saw. We hiked route #1, and loved it. Beautiful scenery, lots of wildlife, no one around, and no trash. Dont park at the hotel, oops, instead stay left and drive onto a dirt road that has parking available.
Rustic restaurant and hotel. Good food.
Go here and climb La Concha!!
Had a good stay here :-)
Very Nice environment. Nice overview over Marbella. Steep climb to the top.
Nice place
Fantastic spot! Wonderful walks from here, nice lunch.
This place is an absolute gem. Small hotel and restaurant in the middle of nature reserve. Can be busy during the weekends.
I was very disappointed as we have been here a lot when walking in the mountains and I thought it would be nice to stay but I wont make that mistake again
After my fifth visit to the refugio I must say this is one of earth paradises. Today we saw 12 cabra de Montanas.
Peaceful x beautiful place xx
I was here with my road bike. Totally exhausted I was looking forward to a fresh beer and water. I was totally alone at lunchtime. I only heard few people talking in the kitchen. Lookily the service has remarked me. But only once. I d like to drink more and eat something. But nomore service even nobody came to me and ask again. Im a bit disapointed. The area ist beautyful, even the restaurant/bar. But the service is very bad! Maybe its better in the evening.Today the second chance, was better after 3pm. The service was much better.
Great spot in the mountains above Marbella, surrounded by interesting trails. The refugio itself has a bit of a spooky Twin Peaks feel to it!
Love climbing this mountain, walking, jogging or running. Awesome views.
Refugio De Juanar is a quirky little hotel, set about 5Kms off the main road. Access is no problem along this road, albeit passing cars need to be taken with care. Once at the hotel you realise you are middle of nowhere. A fantastic place for being alone with yourself or your partner. We stayed for 24 hours.Having checked in early, 1pm, we went for a walk around the area. Leaving the hotel by foot, turn immediately right and walk up either the road to the look out point, or the dirt track shortly nearer to the entrance. We choose the dirt track. This took about 20 mins with stunning views at the top.Later that afternoon we drove the 15kms to Marbella and enjoyed the area there. We returned around 10 pm and had a drink in the hotel bar. Staff in the bar/restaurant was a bit lacking, however we did get served after a few minutes. Families were just settling down to their evening meal at this time.A bottle of beer was about 3.60 Euros. The hotel room was ok, the walls are a bit thin, and I awoke at 4AM to hear people moving around next door.Breakfast involved bread, jams, orange juice and coffee. My partner asked for Decaf coffee and this was presented with no fuss. There was a lack of cheese and meats. The pool was not used, but looked good. I was not aware of any air con in the room but it was not needed.Overall a good experience, and I would go there again.
