National Museum satellite exhibiting paintings & sculpture in a 1941 mansion with extensive gardens.
Collection of wide diversity. Objects in the Cistern (reservoiramazing. I like the garden.
Very beautiful venue, loved the sculptures and the nice green environment.
Beautiful art, there are playgrounds, slides and big open grass gardens so thats cool
-Its safe and beautiful.-Accommodates kiddies-Perfect for those romantic picnics-My only problem is that it closes early which is at 5pm.-Entrance is free
An amazing experience! The museum is really amazing and the gardens are stunning, its the perfect place to have a picnic. The entrance is free.
Absolutely beautiful place. The art and just everything about the environment is amazing and well kept. A must visit destination.
Beautiful art. Beautiful grounds. Loved the visit I recommend coming to have a look.
Very cool and chilled environment. I wish the government could ensure the building is top tier though, saw some cracks there and there, but quite an awesome place.
I really enjoyed spending time here👌
The place is worth visiting. To appreciate the work of others and unwind outside, while enjoying the view of outside sculptures and the feeling of outdoors. The place could really use a restaurant or at least a cafe because, after exploring different parts of the museum personally I was worn out and needed a drink or something sweet to recharge. What Ive noticed about the museum is that they give people an opportunity showcase their craft, if that is not the reason then I suppose they can do better because some pieces werent all that if you understand what I mean. The best highlight for me was the section for blind people, yes if you have a blind friend(sor a family member who appreciates art, then allow them to tag along!Fyi: there are cats and the ones at the back love attention #smiles
A very welcome, central location to unwind and appreciate art.An extensive collection of local artists.Wooden sculptures are for sale.Little know fact, Oliewenhuis has some hiking trails with incredible views of the city.
A wonderful experience. As a visitor to Bloemfontein this was the a pleasant surprise to our tourist attractions. South Africans are gifted. Keep up the good work. My partner found a reason for us to come back to Bloemfontein 🤗
Had a good time,,, the gazebo has a really nice view, the staff was ready to help and overall enjoyed the experience
the place is really beautiful for picnics and relaxing days, i wish they had more art to show. overall its a very friendly place
Its always great to visit, even if youre simply having a picnic on the lawn, leading to the museum.Just grab a blanket and some food, find some shade under one of the many trees and enjoy👍🏻
Grounds and building is well maintained, art exhibits are good, would have like to see a bigger range of collectors art etc. But overall was worth the visit indeed.
Well kept and clean... friendly staff.. lots of art work to see. Enjoy a picnic on the huge lawn...
Very beautiful, had a wonderful, shaded picnic on green grass..took pretty pictures and enjoyed art of all natures
Nice and kalm. Has lots of different art styled art. Nice place for a picnic. Theres a nice walking trail that is quiet and peaceful.
Beautiful place, wish you could take pictures inside though. Amazing garden!
A perfect place to visit very lovely ❤️
Never in my life have I had such a bad experience when eating somewhere, The Terrace tea garden at the Oliewenhuis Art Museum is positively terrible. The staff are slow and they are argumentative. I recieved the wrong order and when I sent it back they charged me for both the wrong and the right order. NEVER COME HERE!
A hidden gem. Some really stunning thought provoking exhibitions for the intellectuals. Beautiful well maintained gardens for the romantics and even a play area for the kids. The restaurant isnt the greatest.
The museum is very beautiful and gives you a good panoramic view of modern and contemporary African art. The building has a classical style and the garden is amazing. It’s an impressive place to spend a couple of hours it you’re passing by the city. The entrance is free.
Lovely place. Great artworks. Tour guide was really uninformed and lacked communication skills - disappointing experience. Please dont offer a guided tour if the guide is incompetent.
Show casing over nearly a 1000 works art annually theres a lot for art lovers.Beyond the art theres a great restaurant and amazing hiking trails.
I was pleasantly surprised on my recent visit. Good collection, friendly staff. Had coffee at The Terrace restaurant afterwards. Many people enjoyed the lawns in front of this museum, but it wasnt crowded - good place for a picnic. Gardens are in a good condition.
Always come back here and its such an amazing art museum. The restaurant has great food and would reccommend it everytime.
Upkeep of grounds has been severely lacking the past couple of months. More thorns and thistles than grass to such an extent that the little ones cant walk or run around without wearing shoes. Very disappointing :-/
A great place to visit if youre an art enthusiast or you just want to have a chilled day on the lawn.... Pity with this water shortage the grass isnt what it used to be but still a great place to chill in the shade. Plus its pawfect for the lil furry friends 😊
We are artists ourselves and loved our visit to Oliewenhuis Art Museum so much. Being able to experience the works of South Africas best artists up close and personal was very special. If you love art this is the one venue in Bloemfontein that you just cannot miss!!
Best contemporary art museum in Bloemfontein. You can take a mini hike through their hiking trails and have a quick siesta on the lawn. The facility is safe as there are security guards throughout the Museum and is comforting to know that I can take a nap without anything happening to me.I love it.
Just magical. I love the permanent exhibition in the garden and on this visit, was accompanied by Wortel, the resident ginger Tom. Friendly and welcoming.
A beautiful gallery with a lovely garden. The trials through the natural foliage are one of my favourite hidden gems of Bloemfontein. The trials and gardens are dog friendly. The exhibitions are well thought out and presented beautifully. I would like to see the museum reopen its restaurant for public use outside of big events as this is a lovely place to sit and read or drink coffee with friends.
A must when visiting Bloemfontein. A gallery full of interesting art pieces, a restaurant serving delicious breakfasts, great picnic spots in the surrounding park, and a beautiful hiking trail. All can be found here.
What a rude concierge...as a mature adult who has been to art galleries across the world, I was horrified on entering the gallery to be pulled aside by the concierge and told not to touch the artwork when I had not even walked past the gallery entrance. Further the restaurant was closed so one could not even buy a cup of tea. It is the art on display which earns the two stars.
Beautiful gardens, also has art classes and awesome hiking trails.
Have a huge open and closed exhibition hall with many great art all over. Entrance is free and have lavish yards to relax and enjoy your lunch. Shows is often for great entertainment. Restaurant needs a little work on as well as the playground.
Always exiting art exhibitions. Peaceful well maintained grounds to relax alone or a group. Art classes and restoration done.Has a good restaurant surrounded by art installations. Unique merry-go-round for the kids created by various artists. Lots of space to play.Art installations on the grounds need maintenance though. Would be sad if they degrade beyond repair.
Neatly kept grounds and beautiful art collection including works by JA Pierneef, Claerhout and Boonzaaier.
Great place to have a picnic or take strolls in their hiking area. For lovers of art the art gallery offers a wide range of indoor and outdoor art to enjoy. Im just sad about the state of the restaurant and the now unkempt play area at the back. Please start and get done with the renovations so we can enjoy the place again.
Always worth the time. A must if visting bloemfonteinFree entrance is a major plus.Nice garden to relax in with shaded areas. There are some minor hiking trails around the area that are nice. Good for a sunday lunch "break away from the city".The museum itself is roomy with different exhibitions every few months and a permanent collection upstairs. Not the largest gallery but still very nice. Expevt to see many local artists.Nice restaurant that is currently being renovated (unsure completion date)Also an underground reservoir that sometimes showcases art.
Pathetic, we went to Oliewenhuis to have a picnic and play cricket. We were told not to put the poles in the ground, as if it will damage the ground!!!! We moved the poles infront of a tree. My son ran to fetch the ball and hit one of the notice boards where he end up at the end of the day with 7 stitches. Im VERY disgusted as there were no hazards where we played. This all beacause of a narrow minded spitefull person!!!!!!!!!!!
Great place to relax and enjoy a day stress-free. Big garden with art museum housing many significant timeless pieces of art! Good place to hire for events.
Very pleasant venue with a lovely art exhibition to see as well. Good food and good prices. Service was a bit on the slow side but the food was worth the wait.
Very interesting museum
Lovely quite place for a walk or picnic. There is also a good restaurant and numerous works of art on display. Family & pet friendly.
Picnic on the lawns or go for a short hike on the grounds, visit the Art Museum or have something to eat at the coffee house....its a great place for the family and dogs are allowed on leash...just pick up after them
Its a combination if a wonderful museum, a restaurant and a lovely place for the entire family to also hold picnics. Its very serene with all the wonderful flora
Not only is the art exquisite but the building and grounds are equally impressive. The building once served as the official residence for the State Presidents of South Africa during official visits to Bloemfontein. The museum holds on display historical and contemporary art. Entrance is free. You can easily spend 2 hours just admiring the various art pieces. The museum also holds sculptures.
