Open-air museum about local life in the 1800s, with adobe buildings & interpretive performances.
Old Town is a must visit for family, couples, friends.Small quaint quiet and vibrant. Colorful, historic, beautiful.Friendly people. Great service.Lots to do: shop, dine, stroll through the city, chill, relax, party, fun.Enjoyed walking through the area everyday. Always something new. Dined at several restaurants - Los Reyes, Jack & Giulios, a Grill. Baja Rocking Lobster is a must visit for a bucket of seafood and drinks. Go go go.Visited the iconic Dia de Los Muertos Altars scattered throughout the town during October through 1st part November.Cemetery visit at night was spooky. Best part is to see the names of those passed away on the sidewalk. The sidewalk and street was built over gravesite. Hope those that have passed are not angry or full of vengeance.Stayed at the haunted Cosmopolitan Hotel in Old Town awesomeness.Check out Old Town.
ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!!! The whole place has this old west style and full of Mexican vibes from this cartoon movie Coco, our all time favorite.☺️
Pretty cool location, has a ton of history and a couple of free museum walk through of old houses or restaurants of what they used to be. There are a ton of little stores that sell souvenirs, crystals and other culture items during those times. Its a great location to spend the morning or afternoon walking around. There are also a couple of Mexican restaurants in the area. I will say that when you walk into the locations it does have a smell. I wasnt a fan but they have a cemetery nearby which was small but if you look near it on the sidewalk you will see small circle gold plates which are graves that were built over.
Great tourist spot to see some historical buildings, items they used. A walk by surrounding will get you glimpse of how the early settlers lived here. We went during Halloween month, so saw some fest going on with decorated skeletons and live music
We stayed at a beautiful small house over on Juan St and Old Town S.D. didnt disappoint at all. The town itself is amazing and the shops, restaurants and bars surrounding the area where also amazing. Cant wait to go back.
Such an awesome way to spend the day. The restored buildings, repurposed as store fronts, museums or restored to their original glory. So much information stepping back in time. Wide variety of shopping and all of the employees are so friendly. Plenty of shaded areas and wide open spaces to sit and enjoy munching on the endless amount of goodies you can purchase. Love to see the history preserved in such a way.
Really enjoyed this park. Filled with history and quaint shops. All the shops staff are dressed in outfits for the era. Lots of history to learn about. Although most of the original structures were burned down, the town did a fantastic job of re-creating many of the buildings that once existed. Very enjoyable.
Nice and relaxing! Fun to walk around and explore! As youre walking around or riding around this area, its interesting to think about the history! Interesting area fill of people and history! A joy to walk around in, and the people are nice and helpful! Thank you for preserving this area and keeping it in its current condition, impressive!
great area to walk around and shop souvenirs. there a lot of shops and restaurants, public restrooms and a museum with lots of information. Kind of a must visit if you visit San Diego. Parking was easy and free.
LOVED IT!! WHAT A COOL HISTORICAL SPOT TO VISIT. It was so interesting learning all the history of San Diego, I had no idea! The food was authentic and absolutely delicious from the few spots I ate. The sidewalk markets were filled with the most vibrant colors and many hand made gifts and souvenirs. I had to stop at Zoltar and get my fortune for sure. The grounds were kept up so well with the landscaping, art and over all cleanliness. I am so happy I got to experience this piece of cultural art.
It was a simple trip to the past and an insight into the scenic view of San Diegos historic site. The people were so pleasant and the town itself was very beautiful. I recommend taking a trip to this town if you visit San Diego and enjoying an autthentic meal at one of the restaurants.

Had so much h fun, the buildings are nice to see and the shops we had to put a limit for how much to spend since everything is authentic, cute, handmade or nostalgic. The frightseeing night tours looked fun we took pictures with the staff, didnt have time to take a tour plan on coming back before it ends.I recommend taking your time and enjoy, we did.
Love visiting and showing my friends when they are visiting me in SD, its one of the go to place to show around and also to eat Mexican food and do little shopping if interested in Mexican style of clothing, pottery, skeletons, toys and so on. Little stores are very cute around and that big tree is something
Charming place with lots to see and buy and eat. Unique stores from teas and candles to stones and incense. Definitely add to your list of things to do in San Diego.
Brilliant place for taking the kids and experiencing a bit of history, shopping and dining in one. Good place to take a stroll, take in the architecture and explore historical sites in the birthplace of California.
Lots of places to eat Mexican food. Old church and small businesses you can buy gift items. But hard to find parking spaces. Best time to go perhaps before lunch time. Theres also trolley you can ride around.
Always a must go when visiting San Diego. These photos are mainly of Heritage Park that is behind Old Town since this is where we took most of our pictures this trip.Old Town is a great visit, great photo opportunities, history, food and heritage. I highly suggest checking out the old school, jail cell, Old Town Cafe for breakfast, sword shop off Hurney, Whaley House night tour, fresh made tortillas, beautiful trees and little shops/venues with neat things to buy. I bought a BEAUTIFUL yellow dress that was hand made in Peru.Barra Barra is a great place for lunchI absolutely adore this place but stay away from Coyote Cafe, it is terrible, pricey and a tourist trap...I would choose almost any other place but there to eat food
Great atmosphere and fun to walk around for a few hours. Many cute little shops and historic buildings. Also several restaurants to choose from.
Oh my gosh. Beautiful place to visit. A lot of historic buildings and artifacts. Museums and shops and restaurants. Really nice place.
My favorite part was the miniature of the original town. The current town is the same. There were lots of restaurants, and a large variety of shops that catered to all tastes.
Great place to spend the evening! Friday evenings are very happening with live music and lots of tourists crowd! Parking is very limited though! Tacos are great from street tacos place! There are tons of souvenirs you can pick up from the many stores here! Must place to visit!
Prepare yourself to travel back in time in the heart of San Diego. This historic site is full of old buildings, cute shoppes, restaurants serving classic Mexican cuisine and ample/free parking. This is a great spot for families, as well as anyone looking to experience something new ❤️
This historic town square was fun to visit with the family. There are a wide variety of historic buildings open for shopping. We enjoyed strolling and exploring. On Saturday evening there was live music and dancing. There is a large open square in the center that is a great place to relax.
Excellent public and historic area. Lots to do and see in the area, pretty cool for kids with the history and attractions.Parking is horrible if you come later in the day so be prepared to drive around and look for parking. We enjoyed our time and would come back again.
A really interesting depiction of the life in the Old West, with many different options for crafts and dining. Parking was easily available and it was just a short detour from the highway. Plan on spending about 45 minutes just walking around and checking the different shops. Add about one hour to have a meal in one of the many restaurants (some of them a bit more expensive than what we could find elsewhere for the same type of food but not prohibitively so). A good place to stop by in a visit to San Diego.
An educational place to learn San diego history in a fun colorful way. Theres multiple little markets with live music, food and crafted souvenirs. They also have a lot of exhibits and museums.
This part of Old Town San Diego was about 4 blocks lined with Mexican restaurants and shops on both sides; it was a little bit too "touistee" for my liking. You do have to pay for parking, around $10 for 3hrs. We arrived before the dinner crowd and that was fine with me. Expect long lines at dinner time, get there early for parking and to avoid lines.
Great place to visit for a quiet, lazy afternoon. Lots of culture to take in. Lots of touristy shops, too, though. Great place to stroll. Lots of dining options.
Its very nice to walk around the Park and Pop into some of the stores. They kept everything "original" looking so the shops are quite an experience. Plus they have volunteers working there that are very knowledgeable and can tell you everything about the place.
Amazing area, vibrant and lively. Feels like you take a step back in time. All the buildings are functioning stores, restaurants, or museums. Had a great time walking around. Parking was plentiful and close by. We were not sure what to expect here but very happy we went. Highly recommend
Best Mexican food and we love just to walk around. Love all the little shop’s, especially trying the root beer each time we come here. We will ALWAYS come back here whenever we can.
The restorations were really well done. The various flower gardens was beautiful, as was the general setting. The whole place was also well maintained and clean. It is well worth the visit.
One of my favorite places to come visit when in San Diego. Several awesome restaurants in the area as well as some unique gift shops. Highly recommend checking it out.
Must visit place if you are in Sandiego. All historical buildings.Olden day school, candle Store, chocolate stores, cigar stores etc are interesting stores..I like the tiles store too.It has beautifully designed tiles.Visited Black Smith shop . It had an event.Cosmopolitan hotel building is beautifulWindmill is niceRestaurants are there.Free parking facilities available
An absolutely amazing experience. So much history and culture to take in. There was incredible live music being performed for an excited crowd. The El Campo Cemetery is full of history. Be sure to read the informative plaques in front of many of the graves. Be sure to take in the beauty of The Church of The Immaculate Conception and it’s many beautiful pieces of art and devotion spread throughout its property. The overall feel and experience of the area is incredible. You can’t go to San Diego and not go to Old Town. Time well spent!
For a Lil history of San Diego, a walk thru Old Town is the place. Good food, great atmosphere and the people watching is always fun. Plenty of places to eat, grab a drink or two and do a bit of shopping. Great place to bring the whole family or date night.
Definitely an educational site of San Diego history including the first school building and a courthouse. Many vendors with unique local items such as Mexican decor and lawn outdoor ornaments, a really unusual cigar shop that if I were an aficionado would be a frequent patron, and legitimate Mexican restaurants. A lot of history and arts/crafts. A must see for tourists and locals. Also just outside the immediate area are many other restaurants and retail merchants.
Amazing variety of shops and local artists. Interesting history with plaques along the way. From high to low end souvenirs with nice custom pieces available.I bought some really nice sounding wind chimes and lots of gifts for back home.#RockFromRI
We visited this place in Decembrie 2021. We loved the small historic houses and the history of the place. We took a nice stroll around the old town. It is worth your time if you’d like to learn more about this place. There is parking close by, the acces is free and there are plenty of restaurante and nice cafea around this place. We enjoyed the fact that is was not busy at all, the weather was very pleasant and the people around were very friendly and polite.
Beautiful hidden gem!We absolutely loved all the shops and open air restaurants.Employees were extremely helpful and even recommended competitors if they didn’t have what we were looking for.Free parking was a blessing, too.Great food. Great coffee. Great atmosphere.Only saw one police officer, so I’d like there to have been more.
Great place that everyone should visit. I was advised that is very touristy but actually it didn’t feel so. There are so many little stores, markets and restaurants that you can easily spent half a day exploring.
An Amazing place to visit. There is so much history, so much beauty. For me it is one of the best places to visit in California, hands down. It clean, its fun. The shops sell local merchandise. The food is great. There is something here for everyone. It is a must do... and an FYI this really is an all day place. So come in early if you can and plan to spend 4+ hours here if you want to take everything in. And also, wednesdays seems to be when many things are closed, at least at the time of this post, so thursdays, fridays and obviously weekends will have more, however it will also be busier.
Got to go to Old Town San Diego on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. Every store I went to a restaurant that I got to visit the people there were so welcoming and pleasant. If you want a place to take your family to enjoy relax and learn and seeing and dance Old Town San Diego is the place
Had a great time walking around and checking out the cute shops! We were there when they had a history talk about bloomers. It was so interesting! Stores were over priced, but its a tourist place. If you like root beer, or even just different kinds of soda, you need to check out the store with the sign "buy 1 get 1 root beer floats". There are so many different kinds of sodas and root beers.A lot of the stores have so much interesting stuff in them too! I didnt think the cigar store would have anything but cigars in it, but it had displays of pipes going back to the B.C. and other old collectables. So glad I went in, and I dont even smoke! My friend bargained for a great price on jewelry with gems in it.
Old town is a must see. Great Mexican restaurants. Lot of handicraft and artsy stores. You could spend many hours looking through items in these stores.
Old Town is a great spot for tourists and visitors to the San Diego area. There are multiple restaurants and shops to experience. I must say that there needs to be improvements to the restrooms. San Diego has visitors from all over the world and a dirty restroom doesnt give a good first impression. People can take the trolley to and from Old Town and even connect to the Coaster train or Amtrak for points north.
Love, love, love this park. I felt like I was in another country. Highly recommend to anyone traveling through San Diego. We were only there for a day and spent the morning walking around the park. Hopefully will return one day and visit more of the museums.
Loved it! Such a beautiful place to visit with plenty of little shops, buildings, plants, and decor.A great place for kids with open grass areas and public restrooms. A plethora of Mexican food restaurants just south. Not all shops are Mexican-Chicano based, which I thought was a bit odd walking into a Tibetan shop suddenly.Wear comfortable shoes as there is plenty to walk. You can also catch the trolly and tour all of San Jose.
The culture is so alive and Old Town San Diego. The history, the battles, I can picture the old the bad and the good. But Im glad that theres so many small businesses. That made it so successful and beautiful. If you love an adventure and if you ever need to clear your head. Definitely come here to be inspired by so many culture. It was just so awesome having my mom and dad explain everything to me when I lived in the US and then they lived in Mexico. So proud of everything that has been becoming.
