This pit stop for house-roasted beans and espresso drinks also offers job training for the homeless.
Best coffee in Peckham! Andres isn’t only the best barista but has created a community in Peckham. He’s the heart of Old Spike Peckham!
Best coffee and incredible staff! The coffee definitely belongs to one of the best in London. The team is so kind and Andrés really made me feel at home when I moved to Peckham this year. Highly recommend when you’re in the area ☕️
Best tasting coffee a cut above the rest. A real tangy and natural tasting coffee. Made using unhomogonised milk.
Amazing coffee and staff!
Friendly service and amazing coffee + swag!
I have been going to Old Spike regularly for six years for cappuccinos and coffee for my cafetiere, it is by far my favourite coffee in London! Andres rocks - him and all of the staff are the friendliest, most welcoming people and I always leave with not only a delicious coffee but also a big smile on my face. Thank you for brightening my day so often! :)
Amazingly well roasted and brewed coffee and social enterprise too - whilst being cheaper than quite a few similar places. How do they do it?!
Very friendly and always get a fantastic coffee. Never disappointed, thank you
Best coffee in Peckham. Great service, staff are always friendly and they do great things with their profits. Good community place.
I have been going to Old Spike Roastery for almost a year now since I moved to Peckham. I have been to a lot of coffee shops in the Peckham Rye area, this is by far my favourite. The coffee is excellent and Andres and the rest of the staff are always friendly and helpful. I couldnt recommend it more highly.
The best coffee on the Rye!Customer service is excellent and the manager is always super friendly! Thank you
Outstanding coffee and outstanding staff! Best in the area for sure! I started coming here more regularly while working from home and its certainly been one of the biggest positives of lockdown. Andrés has certainly made lockdown more cheerful and I always really look forward to his coffee and energy. It feels like a treat everytime!
Old Spike is amazing. Weve been going here for 4/5 years now and have never been dissapointed. The coffee is second to none and the staff are all absolutely lovely.
I used to love going here to get my take away coffee or beans to take home.Last few times the service wasn’t very pleasant...I don’t feel like supporting businesses, where I have “whatever...” attitude atmosphere...Coffee is still as good as it used to be year, two or three years ago!!!!
Best coffe in the area!!! Exce customer service... only one coffe machine
Old Spike is a great little place with friendly service and quality coffee. Im looking forward to coming back for a refill of coffee beans using my own container, as they provide five different types of beans and a scale to measure.Im only giving 4 stars because the portion size of the coffee is a bit small and that is only one option, in addition to the cinnamon roll I got there. Maybe Im not used to this different style but it was pretty dry and almost sour, somehow. I was also disappointed in their mocha, which is just the additional of cocoa powder. I know this is how some cafés make them but its still tasteless to me.
Visited this coffee shop yesterday and it was honestly the best latte ive had for a very long time! If you havent been here, you should definitely go!On a separate but related note - I had actually forgotten my wallet and didnt relailse until it was time to pay. The man working, very kindly offered me the coffee on the house (if I promised that I would return). I can most definitely say that I will be back and will repay the kind gesture. Thanks again!
Loved the filter coffee and my friend liked his flat white. Will definitely visit again if in the area even though they have competition from Nola now.
Great coffee for a good cause. Plus very friendly hospitality ❤️ This place is always my go-to coffee shop in Peckham.
A smashing cup of coffee & awesome staff. In these Covid-19 times my local coffee shop has taken on a new significance (as have other local shopsand coming here for a delicious coffee and having a lovely chat with Andrés or Kat really makes my day!! There’s a great genuine friendliness to Old Spike and they do know their coffee. Love the cinnamon buns too.
Love the coffee, employees are way too slow serving. Two days in a row Ive stood around waiting only to leave empty handed, today in the rain while the male employee flirts with the young lady he serving. He then proceeds to sit and folds his arms and continues talking with her while staring at me. Having poured coffee for a living in the past I find his attitude towards me appalling, was it because Im dressed like a builder and not up to his standards I believe so. Now I have to go with no coffee, but Im left questioning if Ill go back or drink inferior coffee from somewhere else.
Delicious coffee, full rounded flavour and made properly! The person serving was also lovely. Will definitely return when Im back in the area
We waited outside as a blonde female employee proceeded to walk past a line of people without a mask whom were all wearing masks in front of the clear “Wear a mask” sign to enter without one. She did not wash her hands and began eating a sausage roll from the shelf before proceeding to open packs of napkins, prepare the daily filter all whilst holding the remainder of the sausage roll in her mouth.Only after she has done preparing the filter she only then used hand sanitiser. Her other team member the man making coffee was following health and safety guidelines as well as wearing a mask as per the store guidelines and made a delicious coffee hence the additional star. But even external of a pandemic this is against all food safety standards.
Best coffee in south london and they support a very good cause.
Had a great flat white. Great coffee shop. Socially conscious as well. They train up homeless people to work in the coffee shop so they can gain skills and jobs 😃😃😃
Coffee is hands down the best in Peckham. However, the service is terrible. Dont expect to be treated kindly from the morbidly obese gnome. Also they dont take cash.
The coffee is great and served quickly. The staff is very friendly. Place is small and cozy, narrow shaped; there are a few sittings inside and a bench for 3 outside. You can buy fresh coffee beans and there are some croissants and donuts to have.
Lovely staff. Great outreach programs for the homeless. Very cheap for what you get i would highly recommend for anyone in the area, to be honest i would recommend to any coffee lovers who come to London.
Fantastic service - we order their coffee for our office and they are super efficient and so helpful, as well as providing us with delicious coffee beans that everyone loves! Cant recommend them highly enough.
Ordered mocha and espresso, espresso tasted great and had a nice nutty aftertaste.Mocha was done with oat milk, it was nice and I could taste the coffee but the chocolate was a bit underwhelming and I suspect it wasnt using actual milk/dark chocolate but rather cocoa powder or similar.
Brief Saturday afternoon coffee tour of Peckham kicked off at old spikeKind of wished it was the end, no where else in the area bested the flat white here (I had to have a second).A sound ethic too to the business model. No real home comforts here, but youll be going for the coffee wont you? In which case there will be no disappointments.
I was keen to try this place... Its a cool little cafe at the more picturesque end of Peckham. It wasnt busy when I visited but I can imagine is a cool little hang out. It is open plan with seating around the edge of the cafe. The girl who served me was very friendly and definitely into her coffee. I enjoyed my Flat White. A relaxed vibe and worth a visit. Side note: the cafe just a bit up the road uses Old Spike coffee... :)
Near the Peckham Rye, where William Blake had his vision of paradise, lie coffee roasters of experience. Thomas, a friendly ninja, both light of footstep and deft of hand with V60, made me a nice brew and insisted upon it being done the proper way. It tasted good. Best cup in peckham. Maybe London, even. They roast their own beans and sell them and give homeless people jobs. Do I need to go on? Probably not. Do you need to go there? Definitely, yes.
A splendid cup of coffee, made with care and passion by the friendly and knowledgable team at Old Spike. The coffee, atmosphere and service is the best around and is a key spot to pop by for a chat, get work done and wile away the hours.
What can I say other than wow! Finally an amazing coffee shop in Peckham that offers great coffee with an amazing service. Tom knows his coffee and is always a pleasure to buy from.
I really thought coffee arrogance was a thing of the past after all those youtube parody videos and even that ridiculous McDonalds commercial where they take the piss of these snooty baristas but no...these guys apparently still firmly believe in it.I asked the large built gentlemen if I could have a black filter and the patronising answer was "well, its AT LEAST 10 minutes so..." This really made me laugh. Also, a word of advice Old Spike. Every poor sod in need of a cuppa likes a bit of a hello and a smile when walks into a coffee shop. Especially if said coffee shop is the size of a loo and there is only another customer in it.It does not matter how precious your single origin beans are...I, for sure, will never return.
Amazing coffee shop in Peckham! Awesome values and the coffee is so good. Bought some beans too, they kindly ground the coffee and its packaged beautifully! Great gift for a coffee lover.
Excellent coffee. Friendly people. Enjoy your coffee in peace or get involved in a chat - its your choice. Its now my go-to place to buy beans to grind at home
Small, coffee focused shop. No food available here but the coffee speaks for itself. Their filter is delicious.
Nice, small coffee shop just off Peckham Rye. They dont do pastries etc, but if youre after a quick coffee, this is a very good place to go. Would recommend. I believe they also support homeless people on ways back in to work, which makes it all the more worthwhile.
Best coffee in Peckham - and with a good ethos too. A great social enterprise that has quickly become my go-to. Staff are very welcoming & friendly.
GREAT COFFEE DOING GOOD. Obviously coffee focused retail unit, minimal in offer, so dont expect it to be like your normal cafe environment. Went for a coffee stayed for the chat.😉
Long-time Peckham resident and happy to welcome these new businesses to SE15, home to "Only Fools and Horses" and "Desmonds" of TV yore. Like the concept and admire the staff of this place and bought some coffee last week. The coffee Im sure is to some peoples taste but if youre looking for a cappuccino roast in the bean, this is not it. Expensive at £7.50 for 250gm., I asked for the espresso roast and was given light brown beans. I have my own grinder and Gaggia machine and it was insipid. Colombian beans only and probably better for filter coffee fans. Ive yet to get an espresso kick from Colombian beans of any roast. This stuff is delicate tasting which is lost on an espresso and ends up like a strong(ish Nescaf. I really wanted to like this place but until they get more variety in their sources of coffee, Ill stick to The Algerian.
Brilliant little place. Enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff/owner and even tiny roaster in the cafe. V small but pack with decent stuff -even crosstown doughnuts!Def worth a visit
To me its a toss up between the Spike, Soho Grind and AllPress for some of the consistently best coffee in London. If you like your coffee with a nutty flavour then go try it and take a bag or two home with you.
The best possible place to get perfectly roasted coffee and a superb cappuccino! Friendly staff, delicious doughnuts and freshly baked bread. Wifi available. Great bonus of helping the community...
I have visited this place a few times now and love the coffee, no bitterness or burnt flavours and also really rate the hot chocolate.I love the fact that my drinking coffee here is supporting homeless people to have a job/ training and a career.Lastly, I think the staff are great especially Lucy who is one of the nicest people ever! Thank you, you are doing an amazing job.
Brilliant social enterprise, offering the finest coffee on town with all profits reinvested into the social mission of helping homeless people back into employment. Check out the roasters in the corner, amazing but of kit. They roast all their coffee on site. Brilliant staff and they offer subscription service to their coffee. Love it.
What a disappointment. Beyond the warm smile i received when I u walked in, there was not much else i enjoyed about the experience. The key disappointment was the latte itself which was really very watery (not unctuous creamy, foamy, satisfying), and it was served in a water glass (one of my pet peeves), rather than a cup or mug.But they offered me no cutlery for my large pastry, so i ate it when my hands, then had to ask for a napkin and they had none. The owner (a student?!eventually came over and offered me some toilet paper. Delightful. Then when i asked the waitress how much i owed, i realised she spoke virtually no English. She had no idea how much the pastry was, nor did i (it was not displayed), so a stalemate of nearly 5 minutes whilst she waited for the owner to come back!!After faffing around on his cash register ipad app eventually i could pay. But the attitude was so careless and unapologetically lethargic, i dont really want to go back, even for a takeaway having tried the coffee. Love seeing these cool looking new places pop up all over Peckham at the moment, but for me this one can pop off.
Cute little coffee shop thats 100% not-for-profit (all money goes to local homeless people). Excellent coffee - they know what theyre doing and roast on-site, and you can have filter or espresso based drinks. Great brownies too - salted caramel or Oreo?!?! Its small though, with seating space for about 8 people...- Nina | Have You Heard Of It? HYHOI | London food & fitness recommendations
