Opened in 1835, this restored tower mill offers guided tours, an education centre & a souvenir shop.
Best place for Perth history. Lovely volunteer staff there to greet you and guide all
Pretty and informative. Good amount of interactive stuff for kids.
Fantastic place to view some of Perths history
Took the kids to have a look inside after driving past so often, the friendly guide gave us a clipboard with pictures of objects to spot around the Old Mill and Homestead, a great way to get my 3yr old to focus a bit! He loved going up and down the stairs of the mill (very steep so watch your footingand was just a bit disappointed that we couldnt turn it on but we left with a colouring sheet and stamp on the hand, and followed up with a YouTube video at home on a working windmill (Milkshake Monkeys Amazing Adventuresand making banana bread. The guide mentioned they have more kids and family centred activities on school holidays so will have to come back! A surprisingly engaging fun and educational outing.
Steve and Kathleen were very knowledgeable
This is a great little venue for seeing raw comedy, with the unique quirk of being b.y.o.
This was a great experience! I really enjoyed reading all the signs and finding out interesting titbits of history from the area. There is some great information to be learned! 💡It is a pretty interactive place as you can go in and up the first floor of the windmill and also into the cottage. The signs are very easy to read and are informative. The objects dotted around are also labelled which is helpful! 🏷Entry is free but donations 💰 are an option which is easy. Lovely friendly volunteers and well kept area. There are benches, a water fountain and toilet 🚻 facilities. It was very enjoyable to learn about the history of the area :)
Enjoyed the walk from old mill to foreshore 😁
Nice site to visit. Its all free.
Worth a visit. Dont forget to visit millers pool!
After a 5 km walk along the river a guide gave a informative talk.
Fantastic place to visit wonderful Western Australia history. If you havnt been you should definitely go and support our buildings of our past 💜
My favourite comedy room
Very well maintained historical marker. The grounds were in immaculate condition and very clean. The old mill itself whilst being old was in pretty good nick. Good to see how historic the area is and gives you a good impression of how people used to live.
Interesting and very informative place, telling so much about Perths early history and presented in a very attractive manner. Worth having a look over the road at the re-developed Millers Pond area too. It is do nice to see places like this being preserved for our future generations to enjoy and learn from.
If you like history then it’s a cool spot to pass by but not much else …I wish I had seen it in it’s”Pleasure Gardens” days
Intellibus drive through this old mill. You can hop out and hop in if you want
Not allot to see, but what there is is really interesting and well worth a visit.
Loved seeing a little piece of Perths history beautifully restored and cared for.
Its beautiful and historical also on most weekends Im a volunteer at this historical place and will always love to take visitors on a tour when I am on duty.
Our class went here for a excursion, it was very interesting and lots of fun!
Not the same as The Old Mill Theatre at Mends Street, which some people visit instead. This location also hosts its own great events in the building next to the windmill (including weekly open-mic standup comedy), and has various historical tours.
Beautiful restored old mill and cottage
Interesting tour. Good spot for morning tea as well (bring your know).
A first time visit, most impressed by the information posts and the helpful volunteer who answered our questions and happily supplied addition information.
One of the most underpromoted tourist destinations in Perth is the Old Mill, which is one of the oldest colonial structures in Perth. The old mill was used to grind flour for the colonialists and once fronts a bay that has since been reclaimed for the expanding Perth population. The shed is filled with olden furniture from the colonial era and has been restored. Entry is by donation, of which the amount is up to you to give.
When I arrived the premises were closed. One of the staff saw me snapping photos through the fence and kindly invited me in so I could take a quick few snaps and visit. What an incredible sense pf welcome to a beautiful restored and maintained area.
Unfortunately the day we came here, it was closed. So, cannot be as near as i could. Maybe next time. No picture for this. But at first i thought it is a very big building as in the Netherland. This one rather smaller but still beautiful (looking from far outside the locked fence/gate. No picture... sorry)

It’s a pretty mill and would be nice to come by to take pictures as well as learn about the history.
A beautiful old relic that has been lovingly maintained . Worth a look.
Staff introduce old mill history clearly, nice to visitors, excellence performance !
Very interesting place to visit. Great old mill and house to have a look inside. If youre in South Perth its just a walk along the foreshore from the shops. Entry is by donation.
One of Perths oldest saved landmarks from colonial times.
I love historical places and this Old Mill amazed me. I stand in awe how the aesthetic beauty of this structure was preserved making it one of the most significant landmark in South Perth. History has it that, this Old Mill was built in 1835 and produced 680kg of flour until it ceased production in 1859. The mill has then been used as a residence, a hotel, a wine saloon, and a poultry farm. After its repair and upgrade in 1992, it was vested in the National Trust. Its a shame we didnt get to see the interior beauty because it closed at 4:00 pm. Truly an awesome place!
Stopped by to take photo. There was a lady there but I didnt remember her name. She was really friendly.
An interesting piece of history to look at off Mill Point Road. Will Shenton, as far back as 1835, built a mill to mill flour for bread making. It was not profitable and eventually rented out to “Satan” Browne, who started a Hotel/Bar. This also proved to be a disaster and the property ran into disrepair and had to be restored by the State Government and then the National Trust. It is now classified as a heritage site.
What a great place. Well worth a visit. Lisa is very passionate about the history of it and a lot of people dont even know that you can go in and see it all. Highly recommended
Small tour but the lady at the desk was very knowledgeable in the history of the mill and other interesting facts about the area.
Absolutely wonderful piece of WA history, thoroughly enjoyed the picnic and talk to the staff about the area.
Not the best place to break down at night...You will be greeted by a fright. But the RAC came to help,I did not let out a yelp. For this is marked as heritage,So I was not going to hermitage. And as the gold chariot arrived,I let out a wispy sigh.
Fun little place to visit. Entry by donation
A wonderful place off the beaten track as we had a guided tour i would not have known the place an its history a beautiful little place and even better there is small type window where they ✋ out many samples of alcohol brilliant
Pretty old mill. Good place to learn a bit of history and take photos. They also have souvenir shop.Location is perfect because its near a park. So you can hangout after roaming around the mill. They dont ask for passes payment but they encourage donations for the mills maintenance.Toilet and parking is available for free.
