Old City Cemetery - Cemetery in Lynchburg, United States
Nice place to visit, but I wouldnt want to live there!👻😂No, really, Its a beautiful place with so much history, all sorts of events and great staff.
This is a soothing place to visit, right in the middle of Lynchburg. The cemetery honors many African Americans as well as Union and Confederate soldiers. The grounds are well-maintained, and there are pretty garden areas. There are several buildings whete you can look in the window and see how people lived and worked back in the 1800s.There is a doctors office, a surgery room, a "pest "house (where victims of pestilence were kept). Free and open to the public.
Relaxing place for a stroll. Plenty of history to read & see. Very passionate staff who are more than happy to share facts and artifacts. They have goats out back which the kids loved.
Very interesting. A nice place for a walk into the history of burial sites.
The grounds weren’t kept up. Very disrespectful to the ones buried there. I took my kids there for family photos and was very disappointed
Amazing sad history
Beautiful, tranquil setting both rich in history and horticulture delights.
If there was a half star I would do more of a 3 1/2. It was such a nice cemetery for one of that size. I liked the confederate soldier section a lot.
Very beautiful place, had a nice time. Great conservation work!
I dont hate this place, its a lovely weekend ☺ walk and tourist sight like Clay Street Cemetary here in Fairbanks Alaska.
As far as cemeteries go this one was quite average. I found the Presbyterian cemetery to be much more interesting.
Great place if you love going to graveyards, and a lot of history there!
Just a beautiful old cemetery
We really enjoy the candle light tours, but for four years in a row now, they have turned into cell phone flightlight tours which takes away the vive. I hope your team kindly requests for visitors to please use lanterns & not their bright white cell phone flash lights as they walk about the grounds. Every year, we eagerly await for the tours hoping theyll feel genuine & hauntingly special.
Try the swing!
A beautiful place to practice "social distancing" and apropos considering the history of "the old pest house"-- a historic location for Quarrentine 👍
One of my favorite places in Lynchburg.
This is a great place for family photos.
Very old. Very cool
I really love old City Cemetery. Its beautifully taken care of, with a variety of garden spaces. Ive photographed a few different sessions here too, which made for beautiful pictures. I also love the wooden swing they have on the large oak tree. Its a peaceful, serene place to visit. The very small white church there is also very pretty. My sister had a small intimate wedding ceremony there, which was beautiful.
A very peaceful place for a walk in very well kept gardens. There are some interesting exhibits here and lots of things to read and learn.
This is a beautiful place to spend a morning. Many lovely plants, and interesting exhibits. A gorgeous, contemplative, introspective place, with surprising history and art style exhibits strewn throughout. I wish i lived closed, to participate in their artistic offerings. I understand they have candelight walks in the fall, and sometimes concerts. This is a really lovely place.
A hidden gem of tranquility and history with amazing Mountain Views nestled downtown.
One of our absolute favorite places locally. It is so beautiful year round with a wide variety of flowers/plants that grow throughout the year. The staff is also friendly and knowledgeable.
I loved it here!!Its so serene with immaculately kept gardens and drives.. I loved the swing!!

This cemetery is beautiful and well kept. I love coming here and taking photos or just enjoying a relaxing walk.
This place is perfect for a nice leisurely walk where you can enjoy being outdoors or take the history of the grounds.
Nice for tourists
This cemetery is great for history buffs and cemetery lovers alike. The grounds are beautifully kept and there are several museums within.
One of the best places in Virginia to see antique and old garden roses, Peak bloom during the month of May. There are Noisettes, Shrubs, Polyantha, Hybrid Musk , Ramblers and many more. #roses Also they have plants for sale.
My favorite place in Lynchburg. There is so much history and natural beauty and it is always gorgeous, no matter the season. Perfect for a picnic or walk or taking photos.
