Olas Arepas in Auckland

Food was very tasty! Easy to follow menu, staff were helpful when we couldn’t decide and their recommendations were great. Love how you can sit at the counter and watch the food being prepared. Very cool music that suited the ambience. The only problem is trying to find a park close enough to Ponsonby Central!

Its okay, food acceptable, but being old I prefer restaurant dining to food court dining. The glass of 3star wine at $15 lost a point.

Overpriced, flavor-less dribble.Lackluster ingredients, average cooking, mediocre presentation. The staff are ok, not particularly friendly but at least not rude.It was honestly a not-so-terrible dinner. I cant really point to anything and say it was horrible, it was just so forgettable and bland... and yet somehow they felt that $29 was the right price for a tasteless arepa with $3 of ingredients! Because its in Ponsonby Central?Take my advice, if dining in Ponsonby Central, any other place is better than Olas Arepas or the hotdogs place next to them!Amendement:Following the owners response, I am adding to my review to clarify...There are no arepas at $29 indeed. But the arepa we ordered had an extra item added. Hence the extra charge.I cant point to anything in particular that I hated... but I cant find a single thing that I liked. The arepa (with everything, plus extra plantainwas tasteless, as did the hotdog (dont know what its called but the one that has avocado, cornchips and jalapeños.My partner and I ordered arepa and hotdogs from next door, the staff said the arepa place is owned by the same owner. Also the hotdogs place is not showing up on Google maps so I couldnt review it separately.We both had bites from each dish. We both agreed the food was bland and tasteless.Im not out to ruin your business... feel free to view my reviews of other places, I have dozens of them. I am giving others my personal opinion as a foodie and huge fan of dining out. To be honest I would have rated your food 3 stars based on the food alone, but the price was a shock... I thought it was insulting to charge the arepa prices you charge... especially considering the lackluster flavor!

Refreshingly delicious pockets of yum! Also, the cheese croquettes were AMAZING!

Olas Arepas makes some incredible food! Everything Ive had there has been amazing so far, perfectly cooked and seasoned meats balanced with some amazing vegetables! Definitely give Olas a try.

This is VERY authentic Venezuelan Arepas! My wife is Venezuelan and these are the most authentic Arepas you can eat in New Zealand.Its a regular visit for us as the food is exceptional. The service always great and the prices are very resonable. If you want to try the most Authentic Arepas on the menu, have the pabellón or Reina.This is what Venezuelans eat for Breakfast lunch and Dinner haha. Also try the Casava fries! And if you still have room at the end, try the "Tres leches" cake! Its also a very popular desert in Venezuela and prob my favorite thing on planet earth!If I could I would give Olas Arepas a 10 star!

Friendly, fresh and great music. They also let me buy a coffee and the neighbouring cafe and have it with my arepa. Highly recommend!

Came here for a quick lunch with my toddler on Saturday. Service was awesome. The guy serving us gave my toddler crayons and coloring books to keep himself amused- that extra service really matters when your a parent! . The food was amazing! We will definitely be back again for the great food and service!

I had 2 arepas and 2 plates with deep fried platano by my self. I loved it sooo much. So tasty and refreshing. Definitely a place to try out.

Best Arepas in Auckland! Great value for Ponsonby. If you havent tried Arepas, they are a cornbread which you fill with meat/vege/sauce & native to Venezuela/Colombia. Love that they come with chimichurri sauce and hot sauce. My favourite was Volvere (pulled pork, haloumi cheese, coleslaw and plum sauceand my partners fav was a pulled beef/pork/chicken arepa. Also recommend the cassava fries (fluffy tasty fries). Overall great experience, staff are lovely and seem v passionate. Theres another Arepas place in Akl which is good but this one is definitely better value & taste.

Fantastic Service, Amazing food! Stopped in with some co-workers after some business meetings and loved it. Great to meet the owner too, took the time to tell us about the business. Definitely coming back!

Probably one of the best eateries of Ponsonby Central, Food is absolutely divine , Especially the Con Todo with the spinach Arepa which is my absolute favourite. Super fresh / Handcrafted food thats bursting with flavour with every single bite.The sharing platter is also a good time for two people and includes a variety of things to try.Nevers fails to disappoint or fill me up

Really delicious food! Really liked the arepa itself and the filling topped with some of their chimichurri was delicious.The dulce dessert was nicely balanced with the cream and overall really good.Will definitely come back to try some different other dishes on the menu!

My favourite dine out meal in all of Auckland. The arepa tastes so fresh and every flavour inside it is incredible. Consistently amazing ever time and just love the fact you can add your own sauce. Highly recommend.

I have been fan of Venezuelan food since I found this place, amazing food with affordable prices, Mauro and Sofia and the staff are great! every time I go it gets better and better, wanna try Arepas? this is the place.

These things (arepasare so good. The guy knows his flavours really well and caters to all diets. The Santa is our favourite.

Tasty, portion size is quite small for the price tho but kinda expected with it being quite an exotic food, probably could split it into two arepas and just half the filling.

Dropped in on a busy Saturday afternoon looking for a good vegetarian option and we werent disappointed...Generous portions, and lovely attentive staff even when its super busy. Would recommend the Domino with cassava fries - SO GOOD

The best Latin food I’ve had in Auckland by far. This place serves amazing food and compared to the other places in Ponsonby central is much quieter so you’ll have no problem getting a table. Portions here are generous and they don’t short you on anything. Super friendly staff too. Definitely worth stopping by.

Just came back from a delicious feast at this tiny but wholesome kitchen. The staff is superb, not your typical Ponsonby hungover and too cool for kids waiter you get at the places nearby. Food is well priced too, fresh with lots of variety for every diet requirements. Make sure to try the deserts, the Milhojas was like having my argentinian mum doing it. Keep up the good work team!

Very authentic arepas which took us back to our time in Columbia. Absolutely delicious. Very friendly staff and good value for money. Highly recommend.

Wicked! This is a unique thing for an Auckland drowning in sushi, thai, and mexican food. Its the first place in NZ Ive ever managed to find a real liquid Central American cerviche. One where there is a base of cooked down tomato-capsicum-garlic and a stackload of lime juice with bits of seafood floating in it. And patacones! My only complaints (which are not really complaints compared to the awesomeness of this placeare that the patacones were too deep-fried, and they focus on the arepas (which have exceptional and also authentic fillingsrather than cooking all my favourite range of foods... but it would be better if Auckland could discover this enthnicity of cuisine and set up a bunch more restaurants of similar style, each with their own focii. And one of those is bound to focus on spit-roasted cuy, eh?

Amazing food, they really have an eye for detail and taste. Highly recommended if your a lover of latin food or want to try something new! Olas Arepas is a great little place nestled in Ponsonby and has a very cozy feel. Will be back here again for sure.
