enjoyable viewEducational experience
Very nice view of Okhotsk sea!
nice and great look but same stuff are very not so good the way she behave anyway I like it I dont mind
Its beautiful n cozy try it n the ice cream is very good
Cool and interactive museum, with a lot of "heart"
The entrance fee is a bit too expensive
The staff went above and beyond to make sure we could have a personalized tour in a language we could understand. (English, Spanish and Mandarinthey took a map out for us to point to our countries of origins when we couldn’t understand the question in Japanese. Upon finding out that someone in our group could speak Mandarin, they found a staff member who could give us a tour in Mandarin. That really helped us understand the exhibits in depth. Thank you so much for that!It was a very informative museum and they are very passionate in sharing what the town has to offer, pointing us to a cherry farm which apparently offers really juicy cherry pickings for the time of our visit. The restaurant was closed when we visited (pandemic-related perhaps). We would recommend anyone in the area to go and visit and learn about the endemic organisms that live within the drift ice environment. There’s also an observatory at the top floor which offers sweeping panoramic view of the area. They also provided a few photographic opportunities. All in all, we will definitely come back if in the area or bringing friends visiting.
Just like been in a differenrent world, ive learnt a lot
Drift ice room, wave the wet towel given to you and itll freeze. Soft serve ice cream with blue sea salt sprinkled on it.
Good quality museum thats definitely worth visiting if youre in the area. Touch real drift ice, make a towel sword and see the most kawaii ocean creatures! Mostly in Japanese though, so short experience for foreigners. Note the view of Okhotsk is probably the best youll see, so enjoy a drink or meal in the restaurant.
-15C drift ice room where you can touch the ice, wave the towel given to you to see it freeze, soft serve ice cream with blue sea salt sprinkled on it
The museum is excellent. I really enjoy in there. We can see the organism that lives in the Okhotsk Sea. In the basement, there is a theatre room (show video every 20 minutes); it has real (I dont know to sayfloating ice (?). We can go to a special room which has a temperature -18 to -20°C. Really cool. On the top floor, we can see Abashiri Lake and the Okhotsk Sea. There is also a 360 restaurant. The food is delicious. Fantastic!!
A compact museum with lots of information. Nice place to spend time and enrich the travel around hokkaido.
Nothing much here but the view on the top floor is very good.
Well worth a visit when in the area near Abashiri prison.
A funny and educational museum, not expensive entrance ticket. You can experience made a towel from soft to ice in a -15 degree room. Enjoy movie about ice and ocean, observing live Clione limacina . Its so cute and beautiful.4th floor is observation rooftop, enjoy a panorama view of Abashiri.
Very informative and interestingFree parkingEntrance fee ¥750 per adult, it is worth it, great for family visit, displaying many deep sea uncommon fish and others, surely you will not disappoint, saw many local Japanese touristsDo try their specialty Ice Cream.Highly recommend, an must see place in Abashiri !
not to worth 750 yen, but ice cream was amazing.
Museum introducing the "float ice" that would appear at Okhotsk Sea around every April.Theres also a view platform for the scene of Abashiri and Okhotsk Sea.Overall, its a place really worth come if visiting Abashiri, but checking the bus schedule is suggested before visiting.
I like the 7 min movie, magnificent view of ice flow to Hokkaido. The angel fish is also very cute. Has toffee icecream with blue sea salt.
If you want to experience -15 degrees and have a feel of ice blocks from the sea. Theres also some cutesy sea creatures and also a 8 min movie about the ice and the animals, you wont be spending more than 30 mins there.
Provides a scenic view of the surroundings and if youre lucky, you get to see the bay area further down. Sells caramel sea salt ice cream and hot coffee for a good pick-me-up and souvenirs.
First time knowing about ice and creatures under ice
One of the best museum in Hokkaido, you can see drift ice... There is theatre of driftice history
Place to learn more about the Ryuhyo and surrounding evinronment.
I like ice cream, it is better to try it.
Experience -15C temperature and how a wet towel can be frozen in 30 second!
Worth a visit the drift Ice Experience Room (-15°Cand the clione, the "Angel of Drift Ice" is cute and lovely.
a little bit boring but the ice cream is Sooooooooo delicious
We had a food time here to understand more about drift ice.Checked out some exotic fish from sub 0 ocean environment.
One of the best museum in Hokkaido. The angel fish is absolutely beautiful. Must visit when stay in ABASHIRI.
Recommend for visiting! Soft serve taste good!
Nothing much here. You can finish the tour in less than 1 hour. You basically watch videos and read about drift ice formation and its impacts to the eco system. Then spend about 5 mins in the - 15 degrees Celsius room. You cant stay too long inside because they dont provide you with the proper warm clothing.
Beautifully designed with excellent views of surrounds from the observatory. You get to see and touch real drift ice and learn about how important it is in nature, and see some real life unique marine animals like the amazing sea angel. The drift ice is housed in a chamber which is constantly held at negative fifteen degrees celsius. Youll be given a wee hand towel which if you wave it round in the air, freezes solid! Be sure to visit the cafe there called Cafe& Restaurant 360 - it also has great views and great food.
Small but Funny. It shows some strange fish and sea creatures as well as the cold weather atmosphere at minus 15 Degree Celsius. Easy to find and plenty of parking spaces.
We went there early in the morning when not much tourists there and we could have a comfortable visit and watch the videos quietly. The museum is not very big and 1-2 hours walk should be enough. BTW the creature “Clione” is very lovely.
Very delicious lunch @ 2/F cafe 360 .,especially deer meat ,restaurant view so huge
The museum is located on the top of the Mt. Tento (Tento-san), it is a science museum to exhibit the documents and displays on drift ice and Okhotsk Sea. Lovely creatures like clione and lumpfish that live in the sea with drift ice can be found there. The clione, the sea angels can be closely observed in the fish tank throughout the year. There is room kept 15 degrees Celsius below zero, let visitors to take part in freezing experience and see how a wet towel freezes by just swinging it in the cold air. Real drift ice can also be touched and felt in the Drift ice Experience Room. Last but not least, I would like to thumbs up for the detailed explanation and patience given by the staff of the museum during the visit. 👍
Thats ok. Cool!
Highly Recommend to visit with Real Big Iceberg and manymore
The museum is way too small and there is not much you can explore. The only up side is you can see the whole seashore and the lake view at the top floor.
A good place for basic floating ice knowledge, but the museum doesnt have much content. Dedicated visiting is not worthy.
It is totally over-priced price and does not deserve the money you paid. It is tiny, with nothing wonderful to enjoy. I hope you could spend your money on other things instead of this f... place.
I enjoyed this museum, the have a vide to watch which shows the are during winter and it was really interesting to watch. Theres also a cool room where you can walk in and experience the cold weather, you can get a wet towel and wave it in a circular motion and before too long the towel will freeze. The views from the observation deck were stunning.
Did not visit the museum - only came here for ice cream which was deliciously unique
Its actually very small. They tried to use higher technology to display things about that area but I dont think that was very informative or inspiring. Not something you have to go if you dont have time.
Not a lot of content. Our towels didnt freeze at all.
Interesting well maintained museum albeit not a lot of content.ConsPretty small museum with basically 3 small floors, the minus 15 degrees room, the 2 projection shows on drift ice. The 2nd floor with the restaurant and the 3rd floor observatory gallery. So you can image there isnt much content.ProsThe museum is very well maintained and looks futuristic although with the minimum content. The 2nd projection show was pretty impressive and gives a good overview of what drift ice is and how it comes about. It was like a IMAX movie (8 mins, with English subtitles). On the same floor theres a mini aquarium that have some interesting creatures. On the 2nd floor, is basically the restaurant.3rd floor has a awesome view of Abashiri. Its a really beautiful view of Abashiri and you should spent some time taking photos and absorbing the wonderful scenery. And thats basically it for the museum; what it lacks for content, it makes it up for high quality presentations and a excellent view. Before you leave, try the sea salt ice cream, yes its just normal ice cream sprinkle with blue sea salt but the taste is awesome and nothing beats eating ice cream while enjoying the view on the 3rd floor observatory.
Very nice place to learn about 流氷or Floating ice that very famous here, you can also see and experience the real 流氷 all year long at -15 Celsius room.
A nice stop if you are not around for ice floe season! The museum has been entirely renovated as of August 2015. There is a lovely 8-minute video about the floes with English subtitles. You can see various living things that live under the floes, and then there is the highlight: the ice floe experience room! The room is -15℃ and decorated appropriately. You can take a warm jacket and a wet towel, which you are supposed to swing around inside the cold room. It freezes up within a minute or two. Other than that, there is a gift shop/small cafe and a rooftop observatory with a great view of the area. It may seem small and a little silly, but if you are in the area, its a great experience!
