Okami (Footscray) - Japanese All You Can Eat - Japanese restaurant in Northcote, Australia
Everything was fantastic and the reason I gave it 4 stars is because they dont split bills which I find unfair especially as we were a group of 10 ( 3 families )
All you can eat $36.80pp. I had dinner with friends in Footscray Okami. Tempura veges were not cook enough. Very hard, and deep fry tofu were not crispy either. I will try different locations next time.
Be aware ,Saying open till 11pm on Saturday nightBut kitchen close at 9.30pm ... its very disappointing
As a regular Okami Caulfield and Hampton, we were bitterly disappointed with the service at this location. Despite booking, we were kept waiting for 20 minutes before being seated when the restaurant was empty. The staff would not allow our group of 14 to order more than 20 dishes, which slowed down our ability to order several dishes amongst such a large group. The staff looked down to avoid eye contact the whole time and were not friendly at all compared to the wonderful staff at Caulfield and Hampton. They told us they didnt have wine glasses and gave us champagne flutes instead whilst people around us were given wine glasses. They were super slow in getting food out. Overall, we wont be returning to this location any time soon. With a drink, the price per person was over $40 per head.
Food was so good and so fast. Staff were very friendly and accomodating for us with a pram. Cant wait to come back.
not a great one compare to last okami i visited. the yakiniku beef and teriyaki chicken were bad. nice waiter but not the quality of food. 2 star for the food i ate but 5 star for waiter and amount of food. in average, ill give 3 star
No one answering phong for booking.Been waiting 10mins with another group of customer in reception area just watching the staff doing cashier only, until a leaving customer told them to give us an arrangement first. So they come to us goes oh there’s fully booked tonight…well don’t you think you should tell us when we walk in?Don’t want to blaming much on that staff, just want to asking if you have underpaid your staff?
Excellent food great service , but a little noisy and tables close together .
All you can eat buffet was awesome, staff service was fantastic and the price was great 👍.
Table and menu were sticky and felt dirty. The service was slow and several times we were brought out the wrong item. Menu items are limited so dont expect a FULL Japanese menu when you arrive
Good food if you hungry. Because all you can eat
I walked in and was waiting to ask if they were still serving. The sign said “OPEN”. the guy behind the desk didn’t even let me ask and rudely told me that they were closed. He ushered with his hand to get me to leave. I was having a bad day already but to top it off he was being insufferable. This is coming from someone who has worked in hospo for years, I always have empathy for workers. But it was so bad that I decided to write my first ever review.
Have eaten at Okami Brunswick & Okami Fairfield for comparisonPros :- Staff are attentive , constantly cleaning our plates and taking orders promptly.- Price is reasonable for all you can eat - with a good selectionCon:- The meat quality at this resteraunt is not good, the chicken skewers are incredbly dry and tasteless , the beef was mostly cuts of fat and generally low quality. Since visiting the other resteraunts in 2020 I cant help but feel the quality has gone downhill. This is only one point , but is why we give two stars, as the food was just not good this time. Will still likely try it again and change my review if I hear things have changed.
Not as good as I had hoped. The food was not as fresh, the sushi tasted cold and the seafood on it wasnt fresh in taste. Fried food also very oily and ice cream was super frozen and not creamy. However I did enjoy the gyoza.
Food is not fresh, especially for the fried food. Very oily and overcooked. Not making sense to provide poor quality food, and charging people for not finishing it.But I really appreciate that their staff are nice.
Delicious, many dishes to eat. Best is chicken karage
I was here last night with my husband and 16 month old. My experience here really bothered me. I sat down first with my child while my husband parked the car. As soon as I sat down I had three waiters asking me if I was ready to order in the first 5 minutes. I told them I was waiting for my husband so that we could order together. Finally my husband arrived at the table and we were asked again… he just sat down give us some time. I told the waiter that we were getting the all you can eat tonight and he gave me a remark like that was the only thing available… I asked him if they had tea and he replied “they have Japanese tea”. I replied “is that green tea?” He then said “yes, green tea”. I asked if it had caffeine in it and he replied “I don’t know”… okay, first of all if they had given me a few moments I could have looked at the menu and figured that out on my own. What kind of answer is “I don’t know?”. I then selected a few things on the menu and asked if they had sashimi on it own and the waiter said “they can’t do that” I wasn’t asking if they could do that, I asked if they had it while I was looking at the menu. The nigiri was also very dry. Bad experience. Japanese restaurants pride themselves on good service but this was terrible. Two women waitresses that were working did a good job even though one was clearly new on the job.
The food was great , but to be honest the service was pretty bad. I took 45 minutes for 1 serving of spring rolls and i had to ask countless times ask i had a guest who was a fussy eater and only ate a few things that were on offering. each time i got 2 minutes away was incredible infuriating. I also asked for the birthday cake i gave them about 3 times witch further delayed the night. I felt that the staff felt anoyyed by us as we were a big group. Then i got home and realised i was charged for 11 adults not 10. i just felt like for the 500$+ i spent i could of gone somewhere else
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for the quality of the food!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for the service!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for the value for money!Guys I don’t understand how this place could have a bad review! Im sorry that’s not allowed! The service is impeccable and the food is freshly cooked or made (sushi/sashimievery time you order!I’ve been there 2 times now and tried all the all-you-can-eat menu!1st experience: we were the last table to be seated that night and there were 2 big tables of ~20 people each, so the service was obviously a little bit slow down, understandable, but how the staff took care of us, OMG! 🤩 They apologise and advise us that there may be some delay with the cold dishes as there was only one person preparing them, so we order more cooked food at the beginning. In addition to it they would keep checking on us every 5 minutes in case we needed something and updating us on our cold dish order. Simply an amazing service 😍Even though the restaurant was packed the food was still cooked perfectly! Everything was so delicious that I forgot to take pictures! 😋2nd last experience: the restaurant was less busy than before but the service and the food quality was the same!Guys you are amazing! I highly recommend this place ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Went here for team Christmas dinner. Staff were attentive little slow getting drinks out but a great night had by all. Food was great quick to be served. Great night had by all.
We often dine here, food have always been great, services is exceptional. But of recent portion has been grammatically reduced dont know why. But they will lose customer if this continue as this is not the first time
Good place for Japanese all you can eat. You need at least to people.Usually I like Japanese ice creams but didnt liked this one as it was frozen on the dish. It was like an ice solid
Got the all you can eat special and it was fabulous! Loved all of the options. The food itself was okay and the lack of air conditioning was a slight problem but the staff were absolutely so lovely to interact with.
Delicious Japanese cuisine served in authentic Japanese style. The menu has a lot of variety to suit everyone, including vegetarians. Very friendly staff and super affordable prices. They also have an all you can eat menu which is incredible value.
Tasty Japanese food, wide range of choices and quality seafood. Very enjoyable. as others have noted the venue is noisy but it was fine for our table of four . Large groups may struggle to hear.
Thoroughly enjoyed everything about our food & service and will definitely be back!Really friendly service & super quick food delivery. Food was fresh, tasty and plentiful!Highly recommend.
Really enjoyed it. Service was pleasant, fast and accurate. Had plenty of dishes and left well and truly full. A few of what we had werent great (tempura prawn, spring rollsbut very good overall and will avoid those next time for the more delicious options.
Honestly not worth the money. Food was average and our table was empty for 80% of the 1.5 hour "all you can eat" sitting. We had a table of 16 people and were only allowed to order one dish per person. Considering the dishes were entree size, they didnt last long. Because of the time it took to bring out the dishes, we were allowed 2 entree sized dishes per person and a scoop of ice cream. I would have been more satisfied getting food court sushi.
Very disappointed in what was meant to be a great night out for dinner. The service was very very slow, we had the table empty so times while waiting for our order, they then would bring out 1 dish at a time, however the larger tables were always full of food. We left still hungry and canceled what we were still waiting for. I will try the Caroline Springs form now on and hope for the best.
Okami Footscray was my favourite Okami until tonight. It was the slowest service we have ever experienced in Okami considering its all you can eat. We usually go here on weekends and I find that the staff were also more friendly during weekends. It is my daughters birthday and she asked us if we can have dinner at Okami on this day as we are regulars there and she loves it there. I dont usually leave reviews, actually this is my 1st food/restaurant review. But tonight was very very disappointing. Our table was left with no food (as per photo belowmultiple times tonight. I was trying to order 2x of the food that we usually order because the service is very very very slow but they said I am not allowed to do that as they are trying to control the food on the table. And I told them this is the first time this happened here. And the lady whos serving us said they wont be able to allow me to do it because the people in the kitchen will question them too. And we had to wait 30mins for our 3rd order of beef carpaccio, and when it finally came, it had only 3 beef slices (as per photoinstead of the usual 4 to 5 slices. The restaurant was not even full at that time. This is horrible service from Okami. My point is, if they advertise themselves as All you can eat, then let the people order what they want. And just charge them if they leave leftover food as what other all you can eat restaurants do. So disappointing especially today is the special day of our daughter. What happened with us tonight is a waste of money.
This place was recommended to us by a friend, and we had a great time. The staff were friendly and available, the food tasted great and everything was excellent value. The great thing about all you can eat is trying food you wouldnt normally try when youre out to dinner. We sampled so many of their dishes, and found some favourites. They even sung Happy Birthday to my son after we mentioned it was his birthday.Quick tip for newcomers - if youre in a group and only a few of you want a certain dish, tell the staff and theyll serve the right size. You can always ask for more (and we did!)Well definitely go back. We all came away happy.
For the hungry and unfazed, whack your $35 on the table and go to town.Unfortunately for those are seeking great Japanese food, you will be disappointed. The service was great and Im sure large groups will enjoy the all you can eat menu. Prices are okay, especially if you order outside of the All your can eat flat price.
Excellent food, freshly cooked. I enjoyed every dish I tried. Great flavours! Seriously awesome food and the staff are very accommodating, attentive and friendly. It’s my favourite Japanese Restaurant. Excellent value for money also. Try it, you won’t be disappointed 😋
Service was a little slow at first, carpaccio was absolutely delicious, tasty Japanese!
Good service and hot food delivered in a reasonable time from ordering. The fish used in the sushi and sashimi doesnt taste fresh, as if frozen. Still a good time tho.
Great food normally when we can eat in but equally delicious takeaway, and value for money is next to none!
Lovely service, and even better than food. Definitely worth the value. We had 17 dishes, and BYO bottle of wine, to the price of $75 for two people. We were constantly checked on, this is a good and bad problem, maybe the waiters have sections, as we felt bad for repeating all the time that we had just ordered! But it made us feel like we werent missing out! Wait times are close to none! Would recommend!
$34.80 for all-you-can-eat Japanese, not a bad option. The menus fully loaded, highlights being the Beef Carpaccio and the platters. For those with an appetite for it, wasted on me personally as my levels of consumption are low.
Hey guy,Friend took me here for a treat. Price is $34.50 per head, minimum two people. Its an all you can eat.Ill start from the best to worst. The seaweed salad is without a doubt the best thing you can get on the menu. It tastes good, and it doesnt taste old and dry. Its juicy and goes well with almost everything you eat it with !Vegetable kakiage was pretty good, its just fried vegetables but honestly it doesnt taste cheap like the rest of the menu. The takoyaki (Im not huge on takoyaki, so that says something if its the third best from what we had lol).Prawn gyoza was mediocre, I felt like it was fried over water and then with oil after. In this specific order, teriyaki beef, miso beef and then yakiniku beef. I thought the beef was a bit too chewy, but the miso beef in particular was too sweet for my liking. My friends thought there wasnt enough miso though. All the sushi platter in no particular order, the rice was very old and dry and hard. I didnt feel like it was worth ordering considering the carbs and filling. I didnt have the salmon sashimi but my friend struggled to eat it and hes a big fan of sashimi. He said it wasnt fresh.Seafood tempura was mostly fried batter, didnt taste the seafood and the rest were just vegetables in fried batter.Chicken karage which we ordered first but came out last. It was really hard and dry as you can see in the picture. I think they might have forgotten it in the fryer or let it simmer because it wasnt hot at all, we struggled to finish it.The dessert wasnt too bad. My friend was a huge fan of the mochi and sesame ice cream. I was a fan of the matcha ice cream. To be honest, despite the review. Just keep in mind that its an all you can eat buffet. Youll eventually get your moneys worth in quantity. But quality wise, youre better off going to a sushi train joint. The service was the most pleasant experience. Majority of staffs were extremely nice, friendly and accommodating. The table and setting was quite clean.Youd have to have a good reasoning to come here otherwise Id settle for less elsewhere.
Absolutely delicious Japanese food. They have added new items to the menu recently and plenty of popular Japanese dishes to choose from.Ideal place for sushi lovers/ Japanese food lovers! Very friendly ,polite and prompt serviceWill definitely be back soon...Highly recommended for everyone!🍱🍣🍣🍣🍘🍤🍥🥘🥗🍛❤️🇯🇵
Extremely slow service with not enough staff! The staff forgot about our cooked prawns 3 times, and when it came out after reminding them a fourth time, only 4 prawns for the 6 of us came out.Found plastic inside our chicken and received no compensation for this.Ordered the vegetarian gyoza, and when advised we had 2 minutes left in our sitting, it comes out, however we were ready to leave and pay.
All you can eat sushi and other Japanese food. Surprisingly for all you can eat its decent and well prepared.Only issue would be that it would probably be better if they had iPads to allow customers to order directly instead of waiting for staff. Especially since they have set time allocations, a lot of time can be wasted waiting for food and ordering.
All you can eat. Quick service, friendly staff. Some tasty dishes
We tried the steak, beef carpaccio, seaweed salad, squid salad, agedashi tofu, chawan mushi, chicken karaage, tempura and sushi/sashimi platter. Serving is medium to small which is great because we can try many things.Flavour wise, they are not too bad except the steaks (too sweet and I cant taste the miso in the miso steak. My in laws like sweet stuff so they think it was alright). All staff was great and very responsive. Food came out in reasonable time.
The staff were very friendly, service was quick and efficient. Food came out pretty quick. Dishes selection wasnt very wide but pretty much covers the popular dishes. Food taste were very nice and tasty. Their stir fried vegetables with garlic were surprisingly tasty! Really enjoying the squid salad and beef carpaccio. The chicken karaage was very juicy, the seasoning went deep within the meat. The tempura, however, were a bit of a hit and miss, some of them had their batter too thick.Overall, this place is great! Its like grab a big bottle of sake with unlimited tapas :)
Great food and great service from the accomodating hospitable and cute Nina
All you can eat, made fresh to order for $32.80 per person. This place offers a good variety of Japanese dishes that are good quality and for a very good price. We came here on a Saturday night for dinner at 7.45. We received exceptional service. All the staff were attentive to us through out the night, offering us more water, asking if we would like to order more food and clearing our tables promptly. All the dishes we ordered tasted great! The hot food always came to us piping hot, very freshly made. The beef carpacio and miso and teriyaki steak are our favourite dishes. The sushi and sashimi is good! But the karage and tempura were a bit too oily.Dessert range is beautiful. Black sesame ice cream is amazing! The green tea ice cream and daifuku is also a must try.Overall, the price, quality and level of service makes this a wonderful place to dine. Its a good place to go if you want to experience a variety of Japanese dishes. Will definitely be back again.
Menu order: Miso soup, Chawan mushi, Sushi & sashimi platter, Edamame, Teriyaki chicken skewers, Beef carpaccio, Agedashi tofu, Vegetable gyoza, Takoyaki, Potato croquette, Squid salad, Seaweed salad, Special garden salad, Seafood tempura, Cold soba, Vegetable with garlic sauce, Steamed vegetables, Green tea, Vanilla and Black seasame ice-cream and Daifuku.Food Quality:Ordering was simple and we ordered quite a lot for a 2 hour sit. Food quality overall though was average. There were some dishes that stood out the most with flavour and texture whilst others lacked even some seasoning which really questions the authenticity of the chef. For example, the miso soup tasted incredibly bland as if we were drinking mostly hot water, the Tempura was quite battery and oily for our liking and Cold soba had Vietnamese elements to it which confused my taste-buds. The ice-creams were just average, probably similar to things you would buy at Dessert Story. Some of our favourite dishes were the Beef carpaccio, Agedashi tofu, Gyoza, Squid salad and Vegetable with garlic sauce.Service: Prompt and timely (The service was prompt and we were seated immediately, due to a booking). The waiters and waitress were attentive to when we finished our plates and took them away to clear the table. At times though it did seem like they were too eager to take away our plates. However, you could always get their attention on the floor which is a big plus for us.Pricing: Absolutely cheap for the ‘all-you-can-eat’ aspect.Location: Convenient location on Hopkins Street. For people going for dinner, please book and you can park around the corner.Ambiance/Atmosphere: Typical of a fast-pace restaurant. Very busy and music seemed a bit disjointed, but when you’re stuffing your face with food non-stop, the music choice doesn’t seem that important anymore. Conclusion: This type of Japanese All-You-Can-Eat is awesome, however I suggest going to another location.
Absolutely brilliant, would recommend to anyone. Friendly staff, fresh authentic food and an overall great time. It gets busy too, so booking is essential. Highly recommend the beef carpaccio and a glass of iichiko.
It is not the best quality of Japanese food, but it really match of the price - Under $30 and all you can eat! There are so much choices you can order! Rice, noodles, dessert etc...The food come in a small dishes so you dont need to worry about you cant finish the food if you order too much. They deliver the food very fast expect the sushi. And it is disappointed that we cant just order sashimi... and if the price includes drink then thats perfect! Overall Im very satisfied of the food and price🖒🖒
