Oka Teppanyaki in Darwin

Its good food for what it is. Im not Japanese but have had other flavours that I preferred. Personally I didnt like the food throwing and missing it, even though locals seem to have a blast.Friendly staff.

Absolutely the best, freshest cuisine experience. We had the Benton box, duck, sashimi and edamame.Service was A-Class.

What a wonderful evening! The chef was lovely and the whole experience was fun and incredibly delicious. The steak is to die for.Update Aug 2022: Still amazing. The a la carte menu has some tasty options that were amazing. As always staff are friendly and the atmosphere is lovely.

Fantastic place, Frank the owner was awesome, as was the show conducted by the very funny chefs. The food was delicious. We will definitely be back.

Now this place is a gem. Teppanyaki was awesome and with a comedic chef throwing tucker at me I thought I would starve. Not so....some nice Japanese beer was on offer to wash it all down. All in all an enjoyable event.

Possibly the worst meal experience I have ever had. I can only imagine that this restaurant caters for the highly inebriated because no sane or sober would tolerate this type of treatment. When asked by another customer for water, the maître D exclaimed “we don’t serve water only beer” - this gives you an idea of the level of sophistication which this eatery aims at. If you like plates or food thrown at you, your soup spilled on you (with no offer of replacement), and an inept chef screaming at you at the top of his lungs, then this is for you. The food itself was bland and does not resemble any of the photos here - rice was slop, a salad straight out of a Woolworths bag (I know this because this was one of the chef’s ‘jokes’), and the meat under seasoned and overcooked. I thought maybe our chef was new and inexperienced, but then on an older chef started up at another table using the same cringe-worthy script! Evidently this is the business model. I can only describe this restaurant as a phantasm from one of Ricky Gervais’ most fevered dreams. Our last course was a bland missive written in salt, whilst our sad and bemused expressions were reflected in the smoking oil of the hot plate. The chef caught our eyes and we felt his pain, in this shared exercise in self-flagellation and humiliation.

One of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had. Tasteless, overpriced slop, served by a poor chef who was made to humiliate himself with a cringey script that bordered on offensive. He threw food at us, held a flame dangerously close to my face, and launched a salt shaker at my friend, which spilt his miso soup all over him. He wasn’t even offered a replacement, adding insult to literal injury. The owners made tasteless jokes, and were pushy. Unbelievable. Cost us a fortune. Avoid. AVOID. AVOID.

We celebrated my partners 40th birthday there last night and was the best experience ever. They were amazing and food was awesome. Highly recommended this place. It was a unforgivable night for him.

Worse experience ever in a Darwin restaurant, Not recommended & Not worth to try at all! They offer small portion of Casuarina food court quality food, but charge u for lots amount of money! Worsestill, they allow a group of teens with hoarse voice singing karaoke inside the restaurant, making customers frustrated & irritable. The restaurant has No ideas of what they are doing at all!

This restaurant is NOT JAPANESE. IT IS pure “Chinese Pretending” It’s a fraudulent, poor joke to try to make Japanese food and have no idea what I cook. Having lived in Japan, I wanted to show my Australian family what Japanese culture and courtesy was like and taste real Japanese Food.Hoax and a joke on Australians and Insult to Japanese culture.Over priced for Chinese taste non-Japanese Food!!As I entered Resturant I gave a Japanese greeting and introduced myself in traditional Japanese manner.All the staff had blank looks on their faces and no idea what Japanese language was. There was no Japanese food made properly at all. I asked a woman for a traditional Japanese dish. She said there was no.Japanese cook on site and the staff were all Chinese and didn’t know what I was saying when I spoke Japanese. No one In the Resturant was Japanese. This place is a blatant Chinese HOAX with no apology for being a straight up ripoff.It’s a lie!!! Don’t go here if you want to taste anything remotely Japanese.

An absolute enjoying and amazing experience. The Teppanyaki skills was good and the chefs were very friendly. Food was in good quantity and tasted really great. The dessert was the best. Will definitely recommend for the experience!

Oka Teppanyaki is an incredible place to eat, relax, and have a great time. Frank and Jose do an excellent job making everyone feel welcome and Nick is an excellent and entertaining chef. Would absolutely recommend to anyone in Darwin looking for great food and an awesome atmosphere.

What a dinner! Even though we were the only table in the restaurant, it was a great experience, and the food tasted amazing.They were pretty busy with takeaways.Portions perfect size, and the Japanese rice lager tasted great too. Definitely will go back.

A Japanese restaurant but not a single Japanese staff member. Took our Japanese friend there who was was so uncomfortable it was embarrassing. $50 for some vegetables from Coles, some burnt rice and some meat while getting yelled at by chefs who are showing off. Not worth the money youd be much better off spending $50 on high quality meal.

This was my second time here.As good as the first time so entertaining with amazing food steak to remember.

First time dining out at Oka Teppanyaki, I was a bit paranoid because I know bowls and food get thrown at people. But I actually enjoyed the entertainment, the laugher, the jokes and of course.. the food. The fire alarms did go off, that was very ear pitching. But overall, it was a great night.

Owner and staff were super friendly and funny even before we even entered the store. It was nothing but good vibes. Good however they were quite busy so it took about 25 minutes to start cooking our food but the food was good . Overall loved it!

A wonderfully, funny night out. We have never heard of these restaurants before. The food was delicious, the laughs were priceless. Cant wait to do it again.

Great atmosphere, great entertainment and tasty food. Friendly effective service, pays attention to everyone, engages everyone at the table to participate in achievable tasks for young and old. The menu is a little pricy, but the Mbiance is worth it. Ask the owners about there history and you will be amazed. The sake gemai is sweet and tasty, the lamb and duck are tasty, it just needs a little sweet to finish the meal. Great venue for kids birthday.

What a hidden gem! Arrived to dine on a night when they where short handed on the Teppanyaki table and they couldn’t seat me for A la carte. However, I ordered take away and had the most delicious pork gyoza and Kobe beef with rice. Recommended.

So amazing, the skill of the chef and personality is very entertaining. The food was great drink plenty and staff very helpful and accommodating. Solid 5 stars.

Never again. Over priced & waited almost 3 hours for food with exceptionally small portions.Also if you love food thrown at you and constant click clacking of dishes, this is the place for you.Although the food was lacklustre, the customer service was good.

The food was great, not cheap, but definitely worth it. Most of us got the $50 set featuring a delicious Salad, Miso Soup, Bowl of Fried Rice that you have to Catch hehe, Sauteed Vegetables and 2 choices of Meat/Seafood. There are Vegetarian/Vegan options too.The drinks were great too, I highly recommend the Kung Foo Rice Lager, very tasty and very popular since they ran out unfortunately.The service was great, the owner was happy to answer questions with us.Our chef was the quieter one but still friendly and entertaining. I would like to cycle between different chefs on each visit though, no hard feelings.Keep in mind the owner and chefs arent actually Japanese, but regardless, you still experience true Japanese Cuisine and it definitely has inspired me further to visit Japan some day when travel restrictions are lifted.Domo Arigato Oka Teppanyaki, Kenpai!.

The teppanyaki was cooked really well, it tasted delicious. Weve also tried the dumplings, they were really good. The staff was super friendly and playful, the cook and the owner kept making jokes and chatting with everyone. Definitely will be back.

11/10Incredible food and service.The owner, Frank, is absolutely hilarious, quite a comedian, great for the kids. Can clearly see he takes great pride in his restaurant. I’m from Brisbane, so if I come back to Darwin I’ll definitely visit again.

Drove up from alice springs to find this amazing place the beer is heaps nice

The food is good but its like a party restaurant, the chef is throwing food to you and you must grab it otherwise itll end up on the floor, such a shame to waste so much food.Noisy over 9000Dont go there if you hope to spend some quiet time and enjoy the food or just talk cause you wont be able to.The chef is juggling with metals ustensiles and throwing bowls at you it is producing such an horrible sound, just avoid the place and youll be fine or takeaway is your best bet.

Surprisingly strong range of vegetarian options. Though its a little pricey you get what you pay for with superb food and even better service!

We had a great night here. Was not expecting the entertainment factor. Well worth the price. Be prepared not a cheap restaurant but worth every cent. Maybe don’t wear white 😂

Good fun, but I have to be honest and say Ive had better. The vegetarian set was really boring to eat. Our chef did his best to give us a good show, which was appreciated, but the food let him down. Too many flavors were same same... Didnt matter if it was chicken, mushroom or shrimp, once it was covered in the same marinade it all blended into one flavor.
