So many beautiful rocks! Hope to come back when its warmer.
This has been a go to in my family for harvesting Pronghorn for years. We love that there is public land (hard to get to sometimesthat has animals on it. Respect the private land and owners, even though they dont respect you (had a bad experience again this season).Beautiful land, and the nearby fort park has some neat views etc.Thank you Nebraska for providing this opportunity!!!
Majestic and humbling. Its absolutely beautiful out here folks, come and see.
This is a little hidden gem in the northern part of Nebraska. The drive through here was absolutely amazing. There is literally road and grass. When I went, it was sunny and warm during springtime. It was like something from a dream.Overall, if you are looking for a low-key country spot surrounded by grass, then this is the place.
Peaceful and relaxing. A little too quiet.
Top 10 peaceful drives in the US.
Call me cheap but was put off by day use fees. Best things in life are free. Nothing special
Went to Toadstool geological park what an interesting place.
One of the most stunning and peaceful nature walks of my life
This place is Nebraskas hidden gem. Absolutely gorgeous to drive through and so well preserved. Probably because so few people know its here. Not to mention Toadstool is smack dab in the middle of it. Hiking through here made me feel like I was on another planet! Bucket list item for traveling The Great Plains Region!
So...much...nothing. And grass. A strange, quiet, and endlessly expansive place. Hard to describe but I found it awesome and peaceful, boring and fascinating. Youll either love it or hate it.
Great place to go rock hounding!
Western Nebraska is much more than prairies
Didnt get to spend much time here but definitely going back cool rocks
Hiked from Hudson-Meng to Toadstool. It was such a diverse experience. Saw grasslands, green valleys, and the famous rocky terrain of the Toadstool geologic site. Trails were well marked and at a largely low difficulty with a couple of places with more moderate difficulty. Cant recommend this hike enough.
Very unexpectedly fun place to explore
Beautiful wild and preserved meadows 👍🙂
There is nothing here, and thats what makes it perfect. Mind the mud, rattlesnakes, cactus and wonderful desolation!
Lots of fossils to find, great place to hunt, land scape is so pretty. Had a good visit there.
Very interesting place to drive .
Nice and quite. Also lots of animals to see and listen for
Nebraska I love you
Some of the finest open country in the USA.
This area is vast, and a lot of different experiences within it. I recommend Toadstool
Very cool place but the road is a bit rough.
Awesome!!
If you want to explore the high plains grasslands, this is the spot! Stop at Toadstool geologic Park and Hudson-Meng Bison Bonebed
We run cattle there, and love riding this beautiful land.
Easy access to some wide open spaces!
Very remote and beautiful place. No cell service. Gravel access roads
Peaceful. Beautiful. Great place to relax.Visited today, plenty of spring rains made it a lush prairie with a gazillion squitors! Worth it anyway, got some cool rocks and a good run to boot!
Love the outdoors -- cant wait to come back and explore more
Particularly beautiful this year because of all the rain. Absolutely amazing views on our drive
Need a place to gather your thoughts and enjoy the outdoors, this is the place!
I drive through in my western trip focusing on night photography and was able to take a few daylight nature shots in this area. Id like to come back for a longer visit.
It was so much fun climbing. We were there for the eclipse it was beautiful.
Well.. 5 stars. Came to see some grass, and they sure delivered.
One of my favorite parts of Nebraska, lots of antelope.
Beautiful area. Many great roads for gravel grinding on bicycles!
We visited here in June and the clover covered hills were just mesmerizing. It is so relaxing and peaceful out in this area. Its not terribly exciting, and not really a destination, but its some gorgeous countryside to drive through. We stayed a night at the Toadstool Geological Park and had a restful night.
Great hiking and views. Bring bug spray!!!!
Love it! A great place to view wildlife.
We went to Prairie Winds, and we had a great time. The people are friendly, and its very clean.
Wasnt bad. We drove through on our way to toadstool park.
Very desolate not a good place for yuppies. Very little phone service and none half the time.
Excellent camping. Dont miss the acient buffalo bones exhibit and tour. They do a great job.
Ive camped here twice in the last year. Fantastic views, only downside is that the train along Toadstool Road does come through frequently. Roads are dirt or grass so be careful if you have a nice car - we have an old Subaru so it performed very well. There are lots of cacti here, so be careful where you step!
I entered the area from the north,[ HI way 71 from S. Dakota]. I took the first gravel road, marked to toadstools area. This was a 12 mile trip on gravel roads that were marginal at best. It was the middle of May and the road had several soft spot in it, probably frost boils from the last winter. It was dry enough to kick up dust, so I wasnt to worried. I was pulling a 20 converted cargo trailer/camper with a 2 wheel drive pickup. I made it to toadstool with no problems. I camped there for the night. During the night it started to rain. It continued all night. I left the next morning, in the rain, towards Ft. Robinson . This was a disastrous 13 miles of mud road. Some how I made it back to the hard road, [fishtailing all the way], pulling my trailer like a boat anchor]. I was a nervous wreck by the time I hit the blacktop. I truly enjoyed the area, but would not attempt it ever again, in wet weather [I had no cell service in this area for 3 days, so I could not check the weather radar.] The road looked to be gravel. The problem is the gravel is only a inch or 2 thick, and the mud was about 6" thick .
One a bicycle, the winds are crazy. Unfortunately I was headed into them. I really wanted to get off the pavement and explore the cool stuff but there was some huge thunderstorms moving through. The locals advised against it, mostly because of the mud. The views were amazing. If you dont need beauty to wallop you over the head to notice it, there is a subtle beauty here that will open your heart.
Highway 71 is very scenic and starts to give the sense of what the prairie must have been originally like. Next time will spend longer in the Ft Robinson area and also check out the toadstools.
