Octopus Tree in Tillamook
Description
Privilege
Worth a stop to see the cool tree!
Octopus Tree is a short walk up a beautiful wooded trail. A must when visiting Cape Meares.
MoreWeirdly shaped Sitka spruce, with no agreement on how exactly it became like this. A few steps away from the parking, via the paved path along the road back to Oceanside.
MoreEasy short uphill-ish walk. Wheelchair & stroller accessible, great improvements to trail. I’ve always loved the octopus tree & the coastline view here.Bathrooms at beginning of trail
MoreAn interesting tree on the hill overlooking the coast line. Park in the same lot as for the Cape Meares lighthouse. Access via a paved trail with a moderate climb.
MoreShort walk. Interesting tree
Beautiful little park with lots of parking and a public restroom!
Always love this spot. Easy to get to from the parking lot and several geocaches in the area to keep the kids (and adultsbusy!
MoreVery cool tree with great views of the coast from the area around.
The short hike to this tree is fairly easy. Kids should be fine doing it. Just keep an eye on your kids so they dont go over the fence and try to climb on this tree. The tree is pretty cool looking. It definitely makes one wonder what made the tree grow like it did. Worth a look for sure.
MoreThis is the most unique tree Ive ever seen. See photo. The park and its paths are extremely well maintained. Beautiful panoramic views of the oregon coast.
MoreOne of the most beautiful trees in the states. Estimated to be 300 years old. Features in the Zillionaires Board Game
MoreCool looking, but maybe not a destination alone. Great as a quick stop in a day of exploring.
MoreFor some reason my 4 year old was obsessed with this tree. Its really cool.
Very easy walk from the parking lot to the octopus tree. Family friendly. Beautiful view of the ocean. Great scenery too. The octopus tree was cool to go see and was a great new experience.
MoreIts a cool looking tree, and there are nice trails and views nearby.
Its a Sitka Spruce that could have been used by indigenous people to store boats. Very cool, though once you see it you may notice there are many like it in the forests down the coast...
MoreCool tree with some interesting lore. See it while out here for the cliffs and lighthouse. Its only like a ten minute walk from the parking lot. Plus there is a path all along the cliffs connecting everything.
MoreA lovely little hike, but be sure you wear waterproof boots or take the boardwalk all the way through.
MoreAn interesting tree to see if your in the area. Nice little short hike with lots of views.
MoreThis 300 year old Sitka Spruce is breathtakingly beautiful 😍
Beautiful place! Sunsets here are breathtaking..its hard to leave this place before the sun is fully down. A few min from the parking lot and easy walk.
MoreSweet little addition to the Camp Meare State park stop. Little trail leads to this beauty and theres a information plaques. Accessible only for looking and pics as theres a fence around it for safety of the preservation of the tree. Right beyond the tree the path ends at a beautiful ocean Cliffside view.
MoreFairly beautiful and interesting, but gets old fast-not much to do, not even very many info plaques. Interesting trails though, quiet with few people and many places to explore. Will probably be a bit cold and/or wet, so youll want to bundle up.
MoreI mean, its a cool tree. Great views. You can even check out the lighthouse. Great place to take photos.
MoreVery unique and awesome tree! 😎
This was so pretty! You have a short walk to the tree where you are surrounded by forest and ocean! If you have the time I definitely think it is worth it!
MoreIt was damp and foggy , with a light rain, when we got to the Cape Meares State Park. There was barely anyone there at the time we were. It was so beautiful in all the trees and moss hanging. We had come to see the Octopus Tree so we headed up the trail to it. The nicely maintained trail was a somewhat uphill walk. Nice that it was not too hard to walk, even for us two older women with medical conditions. We arrived at the Octopus tree after a nice little walk and WOW!!! This tree is magnificent. I am happy they have it fenced off to help preserve it.Did you know that this is not really a tree at all? It has no main trunk and these limbs that are growing upwards are considered trunks but started out as branches on a tree that is only a gnarled mass that the trunks grow out of. It really is an amazing thing to see.And the nearby view of the coastline was awesome, especially in that fog that day.I suggest that if you are looking fo a fun place to visit, camp or ride horses you visit this area of Oregon Coast. It is AWESOME!
MoreSuch a beautiful trail with the tree crowning the end. Some uphill walking but really not a bad walk at all 😊
MoreShort easy hike to the tree. About the same distance (opposite directionas the light house from the parking lot.
MoreThis tree was so big and beautiful. It really makes you feel small in comparison. Its amazing its been protected for years and is estimated to be 250-300 years old. Its interesting to think about how it became the "octopus" tree since the origins are unknown the sign said. Very interesting tree and cool to think about. Also amazing views of the ocean and waives.
MoreSuch a cool tree, the trails at this park are really nice with great view points and a light house!
MoreThis tree can be reached via a short, somewhat steep hike from the parking lot of the lighthouse. Incredible views of the ocean are on your right and enormous old growth trees are on your left. I wasnt sure what to expect when I got here, but the tree is really something unique. I recommend making the trip to see it if you are in the area.
MoreThis was so beautiful and amazing to have the privilege of seeing this amazing work of nature. There was the beautiful ocean and redwoods. It was so peaceful. It really was an amazing piece of natural art. I soaked up every bit of nature I could. It was an amazing treat to all my senses.
MoreAwesome place to come meditate, relax and look out across the water and think about life. Ive always liked the beauty of this tree. I wish I could paint it. But I took a few pictures instead!
MoreBeautiful views and alot to do here, the hike up from the light house is a quite a treck especially if your assisting somone else with mobility, but the path is paved with helps a tone. The walk to the octopus tree is mild well bordered but is not paved. Would definitely recomend this stop on a scenic drive.
MoreNice hike and fair weather truly strange tree
This isnt for everyone, but if you appreciate amazing spectacles of nature, youll appreciate the Octopus Tree. The hike to it from the parking lot is less than .25 miles and easy. It is on a wide dirt trail, however, so not all mobility aids will work at all seasons. The tree is cordoned off, so dont expect to sit in it for photos (something another group there was lamenting), but you dont need to climb into its branches to be awed by it.If you come to the tree, you should also check out the Cape Meares lighthouse on the other side of the parking lot.
MoreIts windy and rainy here. Beautiful rainforest and a huge octopus tree. Im guessing it would take 10 or more people to hug this tree. Short walk from cape meares lighthouse.
MoreI enjoyed my visit. Easy to wall on the paths and well taken care of.
This is definitely worth the .1 mile walk to see it. Plus just beyond that theres a gorgeous stunning view of Ocean Side of the ocean.
MoreThis tree is a giant in a densely forested area. You cant really believe just how big it is until you see the Octopus Tree in person. Please do respect the fence so that future generations can also enjoy this beautiful old tree. Theres also a great ocean view about 20 steps away. And a lighthouse down another path.
MoreShort, easy hike on dirt path. You can go around the tree easily, but not up to it as its protected. The path ends a few feet away from the tree to a view of the ocean.
MoreBeautiful area to take a quick hike and vist. Spectacular views.
The Octopus Tree is a real Oregon Coast treasure. The mysterious origins and beautiful views of the ocean and bay make visiting the Octopus Tree a must see when in the area. The tree is an easy walk and .2 miles from the parking lot. It should been seen by all.
MoreA must see! Bring the kids. A nice lil hike up to a lookout and a unique tree.
Just a neat place to see. Admittedly, the weather made it even better. It is worth the stop, especially if you are in the area.
MoreA good spot for the whole family. I was surprised at how much wildlife there was, despite all the people.
MoreNice hike to the tree. The tree is beautiful and unique. Worth stopping by and seeing!
MoreHike to the tree isn’t far from parking area. Great natural wonder to take in complete with an amazing view of the beach below. If you’re in the area check it out!
