Ocean Basket Hartenbos Seafront in George

Weve been coming to Hartenbos OB for years at the time of the Buff. Service and food has always been great. Yesterday was a big disappointment tp our party 5. Kingklip was mushy and unappetizing. Seemed like it had been frozen for a very long time. 135g sole was mainly bone...a tiny sliver of fish. Waitress was good and apologized. Fish and chips was good.Overall offering was not impressive.

Watch out people, here they decide what the tip should be.Watch that card machine!

Very disappointing. Loadshedding was on during our visit and we were told they cannot serve chips or grilled food. All fine loadshedding ends at 20h00, we then order a seafood platter with chips but they are not prepared to switch on the fryers to make the chips as they close at 21h00. Mr Owner, we all have businesses and suffer because of Eskom, but make a plan man, its not as if you are selling cheap food from a street corner.

Our last visit was fantastic. We could also bring wine and pay a small corkage fee of R30.00

The Lady at the counter/door was not very accommodating, very abrupt..however the service of my waiters we outstanding.

As always......you know what to expect and you get what you expected. Friendly an professional staff, an food is franchise correct. Well done guys

Food was tasty but cold. We were a large group and all three the platters was cold. Waiter forgot part of the order as they do not write down and try to remember. I will be hesitant before coming back to OB Hartenbos

I love Ocean Basket. Always excellent quality, always good service and Hartenbos has an ocean view that just makes it an exceptional experience.

Absolutely shocking experience. We arrived at OB and we were the only customers in the restaurant. When asking the manager if they could extend the table at seafront view he was hesitant and barely could assist. Our drinks order took forever and we decided to leave before ordering food wondering if we will ever be served food. Never seeing us again.

Food and service is OK. Disappointed that you no longer supply Peri-Peri sauce to go with the fish and prawns. Fairly bland without that. Surely you can do better than that.

We were in a hurry, and food arrived fast. Good service.

They keep leaving the lemon butter off the meals, we live quite far from the restaurant so its not possible to drive back. The best I get is sorry and then they do it again. Lemon butter is part of the meal and leaves the food quite dry without it. Dont do take-away from here it costs a fortune and they dont really care.

***** update*****I received the promised call from head office. I chatted to an incredible competent and professional person, who actually apologised for my experience. The only one who did. After a lovely long chat, it was agreed that I will try my usual OB in CT..... but not when anybody knows Im coming.My review will stand though until I get back to Hartenbos and I can see a tangeable change myself❤️***I do not review for free meals, nor do I receive any renumeration from the concerns.....Im not interested. I have declined all free meals or refunds***********----------********Attitude of a staff member had me very disillusioned about going there for lunch today and the next 6 days too for that matter. Had an issue at another store where he just pushed in front of me in the queue. When I mentioned that, he started throwing attitude and never let up. Refused to give me his name when asked as he was in branded OB clothing and mentioned that I will go tell them about this and turned his head when I told him Ill take a photo then, to prove to OB who it was. When I went there to speak to the manager, she did listen. But then this waiter came in full of bravado..."dis ekke, hier is ek" rather loudly I might add, for all to hear! That attitude is shocking for somebody who is in the service industry. As a result, I refuse to give my hard earned money to this establishment. Theres are many other restaurants here in Hartenbos Seefront who will! I cannot give you his name and according to the popi act, I refuse to publish his photo which was only used to identify him to OB. It has already been deleted and the manager at OB knows exactly who Im referring to. I do doubt however that anything will happen regarding this. It just means that I will not support them ever again. Good luck OB. One less, regularly once a week, customer wherever I go in SA! Good bye, cheerio.......

Spent >R800 on a platter plus 2× extra portions od calamari heads. Small portions and dried out fish. Will never order takeaway again. Previous experience in the restaurant was much better.

Even tough the restaurant wasnt busy, we waited a long time for our order. Food was nothing exceptional but not bad. Fish ordered by my husband had a lot of bones

My daughter and i drove from Reebok, to go to Ocean Basket located in Hartenbos.When we arrived there, they had loadshedding and informed us that we can only have something to eat, if we chose to have it grilled instead of the usual "fried" versions.We agreed.I believe the manager, took us to a table outside, with a stunning view of the ocean.After a little while a waiter came over to ask us what we would like to drink.He brought us our drinks and took our order.The staff were friendly and respectful.The meal was amazing, as Ocean Basket always does it.I would highly recommend anyone to give Ocean Basket Hartenbos a try...

Very disappointed that I ate here two days ago, had panko prawn cakes to start, famous fish & chips and a baklava cheesecake for desert with a large banana milkshake for drink. I said to the lovely new waitress that I have never eaten a cheesecake with a soggy base like this, and it was clear that nobody was prepared to do anything about it. It was not nice. Starter and main course was good.Funny that when I asked if there was Wi Fi available, the answer was yes, but it’s only for the managers. I didn’t have the heart to mention that customers pay for the staffs wages, and that includes managers. That indicates that there’s no customer service and they only care for themselves is how that translates.Worse still, I have awful diarrhoea and tummy pains since eating there two days ago and I’m hoping that the medication I purchased cures it.A great location, and I for one don’t feel that my custom was welcome or appreciated so I have plenty of other options available that are far more customer focused and I have not experienced a really bad tummy from eating anywhere else.I won’t be rushing back shall I say.

Best PLATTER FOR ONE I have ever had from the Ocean Basket group. Your head office can be proud! Customer service was excellent and management on point.

Ran out of alot of main items that accompany their dishes, such as salmon, haulumi and more.. Dress code is also weird as my girlfriend wore a going out top that showed less than a bikini and was told by management to put on clothes.

No organisational methods. Waiters bring the wrong food to the tables. Dishes are not taken away waiters walk right past your table. Mangerial staff only check up on selective tables. Poor service. Perhaps its because it was so late in the day. But, to receive such poor service on our first visit to it. Totally unacceptable. First impressions last a life time.

Ordered a platter for 2, with fried fish and requested no garlic. Food arrived, grilled fish and garlic served. Returned the fish. Ordered wine, never received. Bill for 5 persons, over R1,000, however, we refused to tip the waiter.

More than the average OF. Food was usually good but the service was excellent. Didnt get the waitresss name but she was just pleasure. Prawns were a little overdone. They are a delicate fish meat.

No service at all! The staff meeting you at the door just shrugged their shoulders saying sorry we are full. Not even trying to get us to come back or looking around to see if some people are close to leaving...a take it or leave it mentality. A junior youngster later tried to come and help in order to get the business by taking us to the outside seating to see if we could stand the windy area ( sadly my elderly friend did not want to risk the windI am sorry that I did not take the young ladys name in order to share it... young girl ...you will one day make it - somewhere as a manager or business owner. As for the rest of your colleagues ...no go.

Would not recommend this Ocean Basket. The floor underneath our table was filthy with water or some drink spilled and also left over food from previous diners. Our starter came after our main was served and the mussels with our main was undercooked, the food was extremely salty. I will not mention what happened when we got home. The staff doesn’t even know what time the restaurant closes. Worst experience at an Ocean Basket ever. They have such a beautiful view and great spot to make it a wonderful experience. Check your staff and management. This restaurant will not see me or my family again.

If you have been to George Mall Ocean Basket, which is above 5 stars in all aspects, then anyone will know why Hartenbos Ocean basket is not even worth one star. Firstly, only 4 tables were occupied. About 14 people in restaurant. We had to wait 25min before being served. Another 20min for our simple drinks order. The food was cold. Just fish and chips.. Not difficult to serve.. The place is shabby, holes in ceiling..The servings was no way compaired to many many other Ocean baskets. Will never see me again..

Order fish chips and rice with a mint leave soft drink. The fish was so full of oil and tasteless, the rice was under cooked and dry and the chips over cooked. Then the mint dring had bad leaves in please see pictures. Will never visit or recommend Ocean basket ever again.

This is possible The OB in South Africa with the most fantastic ocean views!Im almost certain that it is possible to throw a stone right into the ocean, if seated outside.Food is great. Actually beter than many other OBs I have visited.Friendly staff, great service - even with a waiting list the length of a tillslip!Thank you for serving with a smile.

A fantastic experience. The view is amazing and there is a great atmosphere! The staff were very friendly and professional and the food was fresh, well prepared and delicious!Weve visited this Ocean Basket every December for about 4 years now, and weve never been disappointed.

I had the worst experience at Hartenbos Ocean Basket earlier tonight.Firstly, I had to ask to be screened for Covid 19(as protocol requires). We were told the nr of our table, and after searching ourselves for the table, the waiter showed us our table. We were served after other guests who were seated after us.....Our starter bread was cold(all other Ocean Baskets where I visited in the past, served the bread warm). Then the starter plates we were offered were dirty and I had to send it back. When my wifes tea arrived, we found a piece of cleaning paper in the tea. Then further, a tray with dirty plates and cutlery were standing next to us (elbow length from my wifeI had to ask the waiter to remove it. The chips were poor.... I counted 12 chippies in my pan... No no no, this was a bad experience we had. Im originally from Knysna and those guys give service with a smile and therefore I am one of their VIP guests.... Hartenbos OB you must pull up your socks!!!!!

I love Ocean Basket, but not to impressed with this one. Just liked the view and waiter.We had to wait untill 10:30am and other people were also not impressed. We had an amazing waiter, he was kind, quick and friendly. We ordered the platter for two and the only good things to eat was the calamari and chips. Our shrimp was a bit toasted, hake was dry and the squid was rubbery. The complementary bread was dry and tasted stale and old.

This photo is a filling face of stuffed meat, sold in wuquercrestrial or snack bar in Brazil L. It has nothing like that than was served in the ocean, there is served the table, nor with the photo of the menu it looks like.Potatos face from the menu is very bad. looks like a greasy jelly, has no taste of potato and no flavoring to disguise the taste. Not worth nearly 30 zar charged

The location of this restaurant is overlooking the ocean. Its literally and figuratively an ocean in a basket. The food was awesome. The service fast and super friendly. The location is amazing overlooking blue skies and ocean with a few ships docked on the ocean!

Friendly waiters. Awesome views and great service. Would just prefer them having their liquor license 😉

Ocean Basket is in newly build/renovated Seafront Shopping Centre that opened in 2016, panoramic views of Mossel Bay coastline, extensive seafood menu, shortish wine list. Friendly, fast and attentive table service, tasty food, good desserts. Reasonable prices. Popular, fills up quickly during lunch and dinner times so get there early. Highly recommended for seafood lovers.
