Oamaru Backpackers - in Oamaru, New Zealand
Very clean, perfect location for our needs. Roomy twin room with comfy beds. Great communal areas with incredible massage chair with view included. Look over the Bay while de-stressing! Highly recommend
A very well-made hostel. Probably one of the nicest backpackers i’ve ever stayed. All common areas are clean. Room and bed is in a very good conditions.Easy to walk to pretty much everything in town.
Very comfortable!
Ill only knock it down a star because its slightly over priced Id say. 4 star is a little harsh its more of a 4.5
Such a great place to be, very quiet area. Good break away from the busy Auckland City.
Enjoyed my stay of three nights at this lovely place!
Lovely set up and owners. Had a really comfy nights sleep and will go back
Facilities were very clean and tidy, bed linen was superb, the location was perfect and admin very easy and friendly. Totally recomend this Backpackers to anyone wishing to spend time in Oamaru!! Was the perfect end to our Alps to Ocean experience!!! Thank you so much Anna, Helen and Craig 😅😊👍🏻
Cool place to explore funky Oamau, Steampunk st about 5 mins down hill. Themed rooms add to experience, and big screen telly for Netflix and chill.
This is a small Backpackers that feels more like a B&B than a hostel. Everything was clean, kitchen well stocked (with a dishwasher!), spacious common areas with amazing views and a beautiful garden with lots of veggies to use. Very quiet overall and only encountered a couple other guests, but a really peaceful place to stay close to the Victorian section of town!
Beautiful rooms, great view of the harbour, very clean and friendly - highly recommended
Love this hostel. Very friendly, high quality, great lounge and great location.
The cutest little backpackers. Clean, comfortable, warm. Free breakfast. Amazing view.
Good location, awesome view, super clean and stylish. But common areas and halls and bathrooms were cold not heated, towels hired with extra cost and the room needed 1-2 hours to get warm
Perfect spot for our little family to stay. Easy walking distance to beach, shops, historical centre of oamaru.Loved the edible garden and play area outside to!!
Amazing host awesome sunrise and rooms and central. Would stay again
Ive stayed here twice now and it has to be one of the nicest spots in town, I cant imagine a hotel or motel room nearby that could be cleaner or more stylish. The owner is super nice and welcoming, always up for a chat and the common rooms and kitchen are great places to meet people and get local tips and ideas for fun things to do around town. Absolutely spotless, warm and easy check in and communication.
Great host, clean rooms, amazing location, beautiful views!100% would recommend booking here, as soon as we arrived we were made to feel welcome, gave us a choice of rooms and was shown around. Free breakfast was a bonus!
Sea views, great service, clean comfortable accommodation.
Very comfy and cozy hostel.I’m sure if I go back to Oamaru, I will stay here again.
worth to stay here, very good service and great accommodation.Clean and beautiful.Love it
Cheap but not very comfort. I sneezed a lot because of allergy. (slept in the 6-person backpacker room)
One of the best experiences weve ever had in any level of accommodation. Clean, comfortable with friendly staff who couldnt be more helpful (allowing us to park our motorbikes around the back). The views and gardens are beautiful and very handy to Steampunk area, penguins and Scotts Brewery. And on top of all that a free continental breakfast! Loved it.
One of the best Backpacker houses Ive been in. The host is so nice. The place itself is very nice, clean and tidy, modern, cozy and with family atmosphere.Ive been sleeping in bunk bed bedroom and those bunk beds were the best Ive seen!
I stayed in Oamaru for a day to see the blue penguins and had a room here. Especially considering the cheap price, I was pleasantly surprised with how positive of an experience it was. The family that owns and operates it is very kind, accommodating, and welcoming. The rooms have just been redesigned quite nicely - some of sweeping ocean views and private sinks (dont even have to leave the room to brush your teeth!)The kitchen is very spacious, theres tons of condiments - most places i stayed at in NZ dont even have black pepper! The continental breakfast is a pretty nice bonus, but not as much as the garden in the back where you can pick fresh veggies to eat. They recycle and compost and the common areas are clean and updated. Wifi connection is pretty good and its a 4 minute walk from the brewery and center of town, even walking distance to the penguins.I had a fantastic stay here and would recommend without hesitation to anyone visiting Oamaru.
I cant speak highly enough of this place. The host was super nice, the everything was spotless and super homely. There were games and activities for everybody to enjoy. The room I stayed in was the penguin 6 bedded room and even though it was a shared room they had curtains for extra privacy. We stayed on a Friday night 16/08/2019, and we were so surprised that this place wasnt booked fully out because it was such an amazing place. Will definitely be telling people about this amazing little spot! Thank you so much to everybody who works there, it was truly a pleasure.
Clean quiet backpackers close to Old Harbour District. Free breakfast (cereal, toast, coffee/teahandy. We stayed in room with private bath, but all shared facilities are charming, with great elevated views to harbour. Host was very friendly.
Not your usual backpackers. First Ive been to that had a dishwasher. Liked complementary breakfast but kitchen on the small side for number of guests. Lovely view over bay and comfortable bed.
Best backpaker establishment Ive made in NZ for now (after 1 month of travel). Good welcoming, well-equiped kitchen, nice bedroom, quiet, cosy living room with view on the sea, nice located. It was perfect.
Nice rooms, well furnished, also well equipped kitchen and good location. Everything was very clean when we first arrived. But: The hostel is crowded when fully booked and gets dirty quickly (if you do not have respectful hostelmates though... like we had unfortunately). Also: Two bathrooms are not enough then (if you do not have a room with a bathroom). And: the house is very clairaudient. You can hear your neighbor coughing and walking very clearly (or talking or drinking, again: depends on your neighborsand if you have a room right beside the toilets you’ll hear the flushing and showering clearly, too. So if you are sensitive in this direction...
Had a rentalcar problem so that we cant get to the hostel force us have to cancel the reservation , we cancel it like nearly a week before, they still charge the whole payment.
this backpacker is sooooo cozy and quiet!!i also had a nice experience with the sunrise view from the window in the living room.the only defect in my opinion is that the whole house looks a little bit too dark and lifeless at night. so if youre a party guy, this isnt a right choice for you. but if youre a tired traveler. you can have a wonderful sleep here!(but it was freezing in the morning in winter.)
Great hostel. The bunk beds were built into the walls so no squeaking or disturbing anyone around you. Each bunk also had a curtain so you have privacy even in a dorm! Great location, great facilities and by far the nicest dorm room Ive stayed in (and really cheap!:)
Cozy hostel with nice facilities! Kitchen is clean with free breakfast in the morning. Bathrooms are clean with heater which is nice. Common area has nice harbour view. Walking distance from town center and penguin place!
The best stay in trip, the owner is kind and nice, and it feel comfortable when staying like no difference at home. Most important thing is I can see sunrise just from inside the house
Superb double room, really friendly staff and complimentary breakfast. Would definitely recommend this place.
Booked a bed in dormitory, nice and clean. Not the best location in the town as you do need some walk to get food from the central street.
I will always stay here when in the area. Very nicely decorated. I stayed in two separate rooms. Didnt have to be a back packed to enjoy how nice it is to stay.
Lovely backpackers. We only stayed in one night but really enjoyed our stay. We decided very short notice that we needed accommodation but it was very easy to book and due to us arriving late our key was left at the door. Very easy on arrival and check out! Lovely room with nice decor and own bathroom.
Thank you. Best hostel so far. Nice rooms.Beautiful views and lots of places to relax and take them in.The garden was lush.
Would give more stars if possible. The best hostel so far. Doesnt feel like a hostel, more like a big family house. Very clean, beautiful rooms with curtins on the bed. Veggie garden with many choices of salad, herbs etc., Just great. Close to town centre and sea. Very friendly owner. Free breakfast. Awesome place!!!
This place is awesome! Our room was so big and we had a gorgeous view of the city and the sea.We loved the electric blankets ahahaThe staff is really nice and the place is quite.
Great place to stay. Super view of the harbour. Excellent staff. Love it
We came across the Oamaru backpackers on our way back from Arrowtown a couple of months ago. Having done many years of traveling myself and spent many years in the hospitality trade, i would rate this as one of the best backpackers i have stayed in both for its quality of rooms and bedding, its cleanliness and for the wonderful customer service we have received in the now 4 times we have stayed there in the last couple of months - i just love Oamaru and keep going back for more! Phil and Sally, the owners, are incredibly helpful, friendly, hospitable and genuine people that have really made us feel welcome every time, to the point where i now feel like its home! Its location to town is fantastic and the views are amazing from the lounge, kitchen and some of the bedrooms. The place always looks immaculately tidy and clean which the owners certainly can pride themselves in. I would highly recommend this as a stop over, a long stay or a worthwhile tripin itself!
Comfortable place, good to meet new people. A fair distance away from the penguin colony, you can see sealions too
The best backpackers I have stayed all over NZ. Beautiful decor, views and very helpful staff. One backpacker that I will never want to leave
Solid hostel. I arrived covered in mud after riding the day in the rain on the A2O. Phil was quick to help me get everything hosed down. He really went out of his way to help and was appreciated. Clean throughout. Scotts Brewing right down the road.
Loved it! One of the best backpackers Ive ever stayed in! Actually I would classify it more as a guest house/motel with a difference that there are bunk beds and a kitchen to use. We got a deal for a private room and I couldnt be more satisfied with the service, cleanness and location of this place. 5 stars well deserved.
Fabulous hostel! Dorm beds are super comfortable with curtains for privacy, a reading light and an outlet to charge your phone. Guests can help themselves to fresh vegetables and herbs from the garden. Bonus! The manager, Erica is really lovely and helpful.
This is one of the best hostels Ive stayed at. Its clean, cozy, well equipped and located, and has an excellent view of the harbor. Theres even a veggie patch thats free to backpackers at the hostel. I really cant recommend this place enough. Cozy beds, good prices, and free veg. 5 stars.
