O'Uchi - Japanese restaurant in Sydney, Australia
The meat portion is much much smaller than shown on pictures. This translates to protein portion being only 5% of the whole meal. In addition, restaurant has the no seating rule until all parties are present. Hence not recommended if one has limited time and needs to run off elsewhere as friends cant order on behalf. Staff are very friendly though!
Ordered 5 dishes among us. I would say 2/5 were good. Rest were just average and people didnt like it.
What a beautiful little Japanese bar tucked away in the city.Amazing customer service, atmosphere and food. Will definitely be back to try some more of the menu
Atmosphere - great, food - amaze, dessert - fabulous!!! It was my birthday and they gave me cake 😭😭 thank you so so much!!
Disappointing attitude to customer. Really enjoy the food here, am a regular. But on a rainy day whilst the restaurant had plenty of seatings, my group of 3 was forced to stand in the rain outside waiting because the 3rd person has yet to arrive despite saying I will order their meal as well. Followed by rude dismissal “oh please (while gesturing me to get out)” when I said I will go somewhere else for lunch. What a way to lose a regular customer.
Service: Excellent, staff were polite and friendly.Food: Salmon don was great, the sashimi was fresh and everything went well together. The ramen however, is only average.Seating: Could use an upgrade, total capacity is only about 20 pax.
authentic, very friendly, quick service. well priced, tasty food & drink.my favourite place for ramen in sydney.
We grabbed a takeaway and had the mixed sashimi chirashi and the beef rib curry which was delicious. Next time we’ll dine in and try some of the specials!
Lovely service and quality Japanese cuisine.
This place is small and really popular. Need to head up a flight of stairs so not friendly for prams. Food there is amazing and the service is good.
Food was decent, lovely staff
I loved everything about this place. The food. The vibe. The people. The Halal certificate. Definitely coming back. Awesome awesome awesome.
5 stars for friendly service, tasty food and there is a “super low carb” noodle option. As a keto vegetarian, this suited me well. From my knowledge, this is 2nd restaurant in Sydney that has a low carb ramen option.
My 1st visit to the restaurant was amazing so I went there again. But the 2nd visit turned me away forever. One of the dishes - the crispy squids was ridiculously salty (tons of salt & spice powder and the chef didnt taste the food), my fault for not sending back to the kitchen. Thumbs up for their plating.
The best experience I have ever had. Beautiful food. Great music. Fantastic staff!!! You must try the Duck and the Coco Salmon!!Thank you for an incredible night.
They did their noodles Al dente which didn’t have anything to do with the soup base … competent at best … Kara age was actually chicken cutlet smothers with Uber powerful yuzu sauce … but better than I expected
Amazing curry and ramen with lots of vegan and gluten free options. The desserts are lovely as well!
Awesome little Japanese Restaurant in the heart of Sydney CBD selling great quality organic food and drinks.Get in early. There is a queue to get in here shortly after 12pm weekdays.I had a big bowl of yummy Karaage chicken ramen Noodle Soup. Chicken based broth rather than a pork broth. So good, full of flavour. The fried chicken was the star of this meal. $16.50 which a good price for city food.Highly recommended. I will be back soon to try their Kara-age chicken curry with rice $18
There is a hit and miss. Cocktails was great, entree was good especially the eggplant. However, Ramen definitely do not look/taste authentic Japanese. It’s more infusion Japanese. The service was good tho. But I wont come back for the ramen
For a vegetarian like me who is also gluten and dairy intolerant, it was pleasing to see alternatives on the menu. The food was tasty and served promptly. The interaction with customers could have been more engaging.
Such a cute little restaurant with delicious organic and dietary friendly fare to boot. It was very busy and noisy when we went, unfortunately, which meant that service was a bit slow and I do prefer quieter venues. However the food more than made up for that with beautiful presentation and delicately balanced flavours. We had a sashimi carpaccio (brilliant; love the yuzu granita), smoked mackerel (missing the pickles mentioned on the menu, but smokey and lovely nonetheless), and chicken ramen with scallops (unexpected combination but meant to be!). I also had a lovely iced shochu and my friend’s yuzurella mocktail was insanely good.A note of feedback though: they fry their gluten free karaage in the same oil as gluten containing foods. This can make me sick so I was very disappointed to hear that. It is great that the staff make sure to tell you, however I do wish they could spare a second fryer for truly gluten free fried foods 😞Overall, it felt like fine dining without the price tag or pretentiousness. The staff are warm and friendly. I can’t wait to return and work my way through the menu.
Quantity Japanese hole in the wall. You wont regret visiting. The the sashimi was fresh, the ramen was exceptional and the bento box was well sized. Quality ingredients and a local secret.Recommend the duck or the chicken and scallop.Being a hole in the wall there is limited seating and its usually busy. Come early so you dont miss out on the specials as they are limited.Sapporo on tap is another bonus!
Loved the beef ramen and chicken kaarage over rice. Many sake, Japanese whiskey and beer oprions.Sad they dont have Tonkotsu ramen....
Love the combination of Japanese and Western elements. A notable restaurant for people bored of the traditional style of ramen.Try the whiskey. The Japanese barman comes and pours it infront of you (which is pretty cool.
After telling myself to try and eat there, i finally did after 3 years. Food is amazing. Would come back again and recommended. My only regret is that it took me 3 years to try this place.
Sushi, yes! Which way to go? Barangaroo or just 190m (staying at the “West Hotel Curio”away to what looks like an authentic? Now we have been here - no question, love this little restaurant! 5-by-5.
Not authentic but taste good :)Friendly and kind staff.
Have been here a couple of times now and always experienced friendly service, lovely ambience with classy music playing, and flavours that are delicious and perfectly balanced - definitely a cut above. Lots of vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options, all clearly marked. Highly recommend
Had a lovely experience here. Different, quirky, delicious Japanese food, not your typical dishes. Staff were very friendly and attentive service.
.. i had high hopes for this ramenI got a smoked duck ramenThe broth was weak. I ordered extra soup on the side as well as extra noodlesTo my sad disappointment the soup had little to no flavour which felt odd as the extra soup i ordered as a side had tons of flavour.. to me it tasted like the main ramen soup was watered down. Way to muchThe noodles being gluten free. Are not good .. i expected something similar to a ramen noodle something that holds flavour but honestly it was like i was eating chinese glass noodle. As such the noodle didnt hold flavour and left the dish alittle tastelessI found the sides your able to order limited.Staff was friendly but the meal left me a little unfulfilled for a ramen mealThis i was hopeful this would be a awesome ramen Im sad that at best it was average or below
Authentic japanese restaurant specialising in ramen and select dishes. We had the yuzurella mocktail - ginger beer with yuzu sorbet was delicious. We had the karaage chicken ramen and the ginger scallop smoked chicken ramen. The karaage was great. The smoked chicken was juicy and smoky but my favourite was the broth and scallops. Authentic, comforting food- the ramen stock was flavoursome and light and clearly made with much care and thought. Not sure if the ramen noodles were hand made and could have been more al dente and chewy. Still, would definitely return!
Hidden gem for vegans and vegetarians!Quite a few vegan option, just ask for rice noodles in their ramen. Organic drinks too!Love this place, cant believe its gone under my radar for so long.
It was my first time to any Japanese restaurant. I love spicy food and was scared of trying some cuisine that is without spices. But it was really a good experience. I tried miso eggplant curry. It was so yum but very oily. I guess whenever there is eggplant, most of the places use too much oil. But overall, it was a good meal. If someone does not like oil, I would not recommend this dish.
Absolutely loved this little Japanese outfit. The interior design, fittings, lightings and chill jazz music selection gives it a very intimate and warm vibe. They have very good vegetarian options and the daily special of the parmesan and mochi spring rolls, smoked camembert was an excellent introduction leading to yummy ramen. Would come back again to try their other menu items!
Very cosy environment- been here many times due to its convenient location. They have few dishes that are very tasty while the rest being quite average - green tea smoked duck breast is a must order but would not recommend the ramens. It’s an organic Japanese restaurant so ingredients are always the priority. Not to mention they have many drinks to choose from, simple a great place when you want some Japanese food and some drinks in the area where there are not a great deal of choices nearby. The portions are not necessarily your usual comfort Japanese food level.
Excellent food - chicken karaage was crispy and tasty; ramen was warming and full of flavour and rice was cooked to perfection. Loved that there were plenty of vegetarian options for those of us who are vegetarian.Customer service was exceptional too. Only downfall is that a small serving of chilli oil cost $1.50.
This place is so unique its almost off the San Francisco set of The Man in in the High Castle. The food is mostly organic and absolutely first rate. This is a place where you savour the culinary experience, bask in the ambiance and treat yourself to something different (not generic Asian cuisine). Our host was knowledgeable and helpful and our food had us salivating at every morsel. Want something different, then I highly recommend OUchi
Great little Japanese restaurant in the city, uses fresh and organic ingredients. Meat is slow cooked and a lot of dishes made from scratch including the curry. Look out for the art on the walls which is also a labour of the owners love. Finally great selection of Japanese drinks and love the water mixes they have too.
Well this has to be the most amazing, incredible Japanese feast Ive had in forever and all gluten free including the karaage chicken. The beef rib was melt in your mouth and full of spectacular flavours... If youre a coeliac or just lover of amazing Japanese food visit here.
Fantastic find with really nice staff! The food is delicious and the serving sizings are plentiful. It’s super close to Wynyard Station as well, which is an added bonus. The lunch specials are real good value.
A great, calm, small and cosy Japanese restaurant. Perfect for date night after work or a post-work drinks with colleagues. Close the Wynyard station and easy to access.
Came here for takeaway lunch, ordered the eggplant and Parmesan don. All dishes here are curry style japanese and Bento box, no sushi for example. The takeaway was in a eco friendly box and cutlery which is great! Rice was delicious and eggplant tasty. Even came with a little salad. I was maybe expecting a slightly larger portion for the price. Dining in looks to be good, dish prices from $14 (vege don- $26 (Bento Box). Will try again and eat in next time. Staff very friendly and quick service
It’s quirky and different from the usual Japanese places you’ll find in Sydney, but it feels like this place has been lifted right out of Tokyo. They have a very warm and family-run feel to the place, with funky jazz overtones. The food is delicious with modern twists on some classic favourites. The chicken and cabbage gyoza and the miso eggplant with Parmesan are excellent. We also tried a few of the specials which were delicious (aburi salmon was a stand out), the beef ribs- although not very Japanese were so tender and yummy, and the tataki ramen. The menu is organic. The owners and waiters very friendly and attentive. I’d recommend this place
AMAZING!!!⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐This place has it all. The atmosphere is mesmerising. The visual elements along with the music work perfectly. The service is engaged and quick. The food itself is cooked to perfection adding a new element to a well known taste. As well as being responsible priced. If you eat everyday like I do this is a place to visit.10/10 will be back again.
I would describe it as modern Japanese. Authentic and absolutely unpretentious. Come in before 7 p.m. on a Friday and the place is probably quiet and you will have choice of seating. After that, the place fills up steadily. If this sort of cuisine is to your taste you will easily go overboard and overorder, but you will not regret it 😋
Very nice and cute place. Even tho it was queue when we got there, it went so fast :Service was fast as well and FOOD WAS DELICIOUS ! I had beef ramen and it was really tasty with a tiny hint of spicy at the end that gives a special touch ! Staff is so friendly and smiley :)
We were a group of 8 and it took us some time to get seats because its a small place and gets busy during lunch time. The miso ramen wasnt great and Ive definitely had much better ones. For the price it was a letdown.
Food A+ tasty with a sense of homemade freshness, Atmosphere A+ felt like a authentic Japanese restaurant that youll find walking the streets of Osaka or even better yet Kyoto, Seating B- its tiny! Not enough seats... place is so good its hard to get a seat! Its always busy...but the staff checks in with you from time to time to make sure you feel welcomed. All in all a great place to grab lunch thats vegan friendly.
Gorgeous Japanese restaurant with great decor. Many veg and vegan options. Friendly service and complimentary fresh fruit infused water. Open for lunch and dinner.I had the Eggplant Parmesan curry without the Parmesan to made it vegan. was more on the eggplant miso side than curry. but still yummy overall.Cant wait to try the other vegan and gf options on the menu.
An excellent Japanese restaurant that definitely deserves this score. Starting with the ambience, there is a very tranquil feel when you walk in. The food was also good value for money; I think this targets a price point that is slightly above cheap Foodcourt lunch. I ordered the vegetarian Ramen and my friend got noodles with beef. We were both very pleased with our orders :staff were very nice too! Only came for lunch but dinner looks legit haha
