Bucolic brasserie serving seasonal British ingredients from breakfast to late-night cocktails.
Stood there at the entrance waiting to be taken to a table for around 10 minutes, totally ignored by three members of staff, tried to speak to one of them and he totally blanked me, the girls at the table also couldn’t believe it. I don’t normally review but this was just utterly rude, will be giving my recommendations against the place.
We really enjoyed our evening at Nutbourne. Theres a relaxed atmosphere, excellent wine and some really delicious food. We would definitely visit again - the service was really friendly and attentive and we had a great time.
The food, the ambience and the service was amazing, big plus to Sara who was very attentive and charming, she really made this a five star experience for us!
Just returned from a Sunday Roast but unfortunately it was absolutely awful, my son and I both had Roast Beef which came barely warm, soggy roast potatoes and tough beef so they were both returned to the kitchen, after 10 minutes we received 2 new plates of food arrived but were only a few degrees hotter and just as bad as the previous dishes and just tasteless. We did see another customer returned their food for the same reason so I dont think it was us just being picky.
Went on recommendation for Sunday lunch. While you can tell the quality of the ingredients everything was cold. Cold plates, cold meat, cold Yorkshires topped off with cold gravy. Even on a second attempt everything was still cold. How hard can it be to serve hot food. Clearly at the Nutbourne too hard.
Just had the roast and it was disappointing. Ran out of beef, the chicken was so dry and over cooked. Roast potatoes were chewy, we waited 40 minutes for the food. Other tables walked out after being told they had ran out of roast potatoes. Very disappointing, would definitely not go back - food was also cold.
Oysters were delicious, staff is friendly, good wine selection, great red wine jus
From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed and special! The staff are all so friendly, very accommodating and served us with genuine smiles. Our meal was AMAZING, with great care taken in its presentation and flavour. Thanks so much for an awesome date night!
Amazing food, amazing service..highly recommended..all the staff are really friendly and the food is really fresh..my new favourite restaurant in the area..definitely will be back
I sometimes I think when restaurants get it wrong they don’t stop to consider why a customer is upset. In this case it wasn’t the confusion of where the egg confit might be or indeed the type of egg it would turn out be if we found it, nor was it the less than lukewarm roast dinners or the missing roast potatoes that magically appeared 5 mins later warm to the touch, but undercooked and unseasoned, clearly out of the deep fat fryer. It could have been the baked quiche/crumpet type thing masquerading as a Yorkshire pudding, but that simply made me question whether there actually was a chef in the kitchenI was upset because I booked to have a simple unpretentious lunch with my daughter on the day before she returns overseas. I wasn’t expecting or looking for haute cuisine, I just wanted lunch. Serving dishes that are manifestly missing an ingredient and/or badly cooked to the point of being inedible does not meet any form of contract with the customer. And more to the point, spoils an otherwise pleasant afternoon…On the plus side the Maitre’D and staff are welcoming and charming. I can’t tell you about the chef as he/she apparently didn’t care enough about food being sent back on a quiet service to come and find out what the problem was in person….None of this is news to the restaurant staff. The bill was discounted by one main course and a free dessert was offered (which we declined, once bitten twice shy)…i was minded not to pay the bill at all, but my wife just wanted to leave and as I said, it’s not about the money….
Came here because of their famous Sunday Roast. Did not live to its fame. The food was standard pub food and not worth the price. It’s better to go to other Sunday Roast
Well located, very pleasant place great to come back toThey should put cloths on tableseven so excellent staff amazing drinks and food also, delicious desserts
Second visit to this restaurant. As before, the staff are brilliant and we were very well looked after. Had a fabulous margarita aperitif. Lovely small menu and everything was spot on. Sat on the terrace overlooking the boats - gorgeous! We will be back
Wow what a fantastic restaurant, beautiful Sussex wine and Sussex fillet steaks cooked on the open grill . In the the most beautiful setting .Thank you Abel and all the brilliant team .
Fabulous experience from start to finish. The food, atmosphere and service were all on point.
We visited for brunch today and the food was outstanding (we all had the trout and the ingredients were such good quality and fresh), the setting was lovely next to the boats but our waiter made the experience even better we think his name was Abel? Our other waitress who was new was also great. Highly recommended this place and will definitely be back soon!
Stopped here for lunch during our walk on the thames path. Super service, delicious food, very cute spot and laid back. Will definately go back again. Our french waiter was very knowledgeable on the menu and very funny with it. Great that water is free to!
Female assistance was rude and made us feel unwelcome, once the other guy took over things where a little bit different. Starters were good but main course was mediocre.
Fantastic food, fantastic wine list, lovely service. A real gem. Recommended
Lovely setting for some great food, cocktails & wine. I had the marmite éclair, the baked truffled Tunworth with pear chutney (sharedand the beef fillet steak with skinny fries and salad. I had the Nutbourne Bacchus wine which went really well with the cheese. The service was excellent and the steak was cooked to perfection.
My friend and I were here for dinner and loved this place! It has a cosy atmosphere and a great menu. Everything we ordered was so tasty and the wine was superb.Service was attentive and the owner came chatting with us and was very friendly.I am sure when weather permits sitting outside by the canal is a real gem. We will come back!
We came for dinner as a party of 5 people.Overall it was okay but I have to say, I won’t be making a booking again in a hurry.Firstly, multiple menu options were not available by the time we ate (8pm), severely limiting the pescatarian options available on your menu. This was not flagged to us and it was only when we had actually decided what to order that the waitress mentioned the shortage.Secondly, all of the main course dishes were not served at the same time with one member of the party waiting 10 minutes after everyone else to be served. There was no apology and no explanation provided for this.Thirdly, trying to get the attention of the service for the bill to be brought was quite difficult despite being in a centrally located table.Fourthly, I find it shocking that service charge is now 13.5% “due to inflation”. Service charge should be paid for a good quality of service and that only. It should not be a substitute for Gladwin Bros not paying staff sufficiently and getting customers to make up for the shortfall. The food prices are already quite steep for the quality of food and this is the only place I would expect an increase “due to inflation”.A little disappointing all round.
Nice atmosphere. The waiter and staffare friendly and welcoming.Unfortunately, our steak was rather dry and too well done.Judging from existing reviews, the atmosphere and prices, we expected more of the food. All in all, the price to value doesn’t add up. Would not recommend.
Nice location on the water and charismatic owner or front of house gentleman, but if you want fast service, nice food and no screaming children, dont come here.Went on a Saturday after 1pm and it took 1.5hrs to get our food. They were understaffed so waiting staff were frazzled and grumpy. When the food did arrive, it was luke warm. The brunch options were OK, but the celeriac schnitzel was half undercooked. We didnt bother sending it back as getting more food was going to take too long. The desserts were small and underwhelming in flavour. The English fizzy wine however was delicious, as were their mocktails. You cant do much about clientele, but the back of the restaurant was filled with the sort of parents who allow young Rollo and Izabelya to scream their heads off, without much discipline.Shame as it has a lot of potential, so owners if youre reading, hire more staff and rethink the menu.
We had a lovely Sunday roast but it’s frustrating everyone has to order this, there is no other option on the menu on Sundays. Portions on the small side with a couple of roasted vegetables. The place was cold though and I felt I needed to keep my jacket on. Will we return? Maybe in the summer when we can be confident we won’t be left to freeze!
Nice atmosphere perfect for Sunday lunch. Good service. Starters were great. Fish from the daily menu also nice. Sunday roasts (ham, chicken, lambwere all disappointing; dry and not very flavourful. Cheesecake was awful definitely not home made. Nice wine list. May come again but not for the roast.
For a lot of hype, really disappointing. Went in on a Sunday (having had the restaurant call to urge us to come in earlier saying there would be a risk of the food being gone). We were booked in at 7.30pm. We couldn’t arrive earlier due to travel. But it was clear we were simply the last table of the night and the team wanted to get away early. It was pretty empty. The one waitress was just on her phone instead of actually serving us. We stood at the door for a little while - no one came to greet us or show us to our table. I had to come looking for staff. The wine wasn’t very pleasant and the food was mediocre at best.
Disappointed given how many good reviews weve heard from friends.Interesting and enjoyable starters. We had the scallops, whipped cod roe and mushroom/marmite fritters.Awful, raw, tasteless, roast lamb. No idea why you would do that. All the things that make lamb enjoyable were missing. It was like eating slimy, cold trash.Good desserts. Not the greatest atmosphere, I had an average view of the coat rack.If you are after somewhere nice go somewhere else or avoid going for the roast.
I came recently for brunch, it was lovely inside the restaurant and the view over the dock was beautiful. The staff were attentive and polite, however the food was really disappointing. The poached eggs were very overcooked, pretty much hardboiled and the food arrived cold. Even the coffee arrived lukewarm. The restaurant itself was also freezing, I was wearing a long sleeved turtle neck shirt and had goosebumps the whole time. I couldnt fault the waitresses, but for the price I was expecting much better for the food. Overall quite disappointed and wont be coming back.
We are happy repeat customers - the food, atmosphere & service never fails to delight us. This time, we chose it as the restaurant for our first date night along since our sons birth and couldnt have been happier with the reception and service throughout the night. The starters were incredible & creative as always and the wine suggestion on point. Cant wait for our next time!
I was here 3 months ago with my partner who had previously left a review -which has now for some reason disappeared. I dont normally write reviews, but I feel this needs to be addressed and for other people to be wary of. I ordered the oysters starter and squid main dish for lunch. I then felt unwell and spent the rest of my afternoon vomiting at home. Perhaps it was the hot day resulting in the oysters and squid stored improperly, but its no excuse from a respectable establishment like this.
We came here yesterday in all honesty to use the facilties before heading off to Battersea Park fireworks display. Ordered a salted caramal torte and it was lush. The staff were super friendly, especially the elderly gentleman who i think was the owner. We will definitely be back to take our time and enjoy a full meal when we are next in the area.
Long story short, the service was so bad it gave me a headache, food was mediocre at last and tiny portions and not enough staff for all the tables. One of the worst dining experiences Ive ever had. Avoid if you can.Went for a Sunday Roast around lunchtime, no booking. We waited outside to be seated for circa 40 minutes since nobody was really paying attention to us. Waiters would come to us, and then disappear. This happened at least 3 times until we finally got seated inside on the stool table. The waiter gently warned us we had to wait around 30/40 mins for the food, so we went ahead and ordered cocktails + food. The drinks were pretty bad, with wrong mixes and unbalanced flavours. The starters were pretty good. Finally, our roast dinner arrives, a small portion and missing Yorkshire pudding. We enquire about it and get told that that would need another 8 mins (odd). We ended up receiving our Yorkshire almost 20 minutes after when all of us had already finished our meal. Dessert again arrived 20 minutes late.No words left for this, get yourself a pizza hut you will thank yourself after
Nice pub by the Gladwin Brothers. Went for brunch and the highlight was the service and relaxed atmosphere. The food was delicious, prepared with care and good quality ingredients, but thought that the menu could have gone a little above and beyond the basic dishes for the price.Nevertheless would definitely be back as great addition to Battersea. Plenty of outdoor seating space next to the river, excellent for a sunny summer day. Very dog friendly too which is a plus.
It was all OK. Fun, if weird, decor. Friendly service. But the food wasnt anything special. The "mushroom marmite eclair" was a great idea but it was a soggy and the filling was vinegary. Whipped cods roe came with a walnut so over-pickled it was inedible. The bavette was really chewy, the aubergine was undercooked. It all lacked a bit of finesse.
Amazing service and food was great!!! Treated us and our kids really well with kindness and respect. Only thing I can fault was that we ordered medium rare steak but it came medium. Did want to send it back as it would be a waste of meat, otherwise everything was perfect!
Went here on a Sunday around 6pm, we were the only ones there, so was quite nice. The menu was mainly roasts. Had the roast beef with trimmings, it was nice and filling. The Yorkshire pudding was a bit disappointing and maybe would have liked some other veggie on there. Overall a nice meal and very good service from all, but in particular our server, young slim brunette lady, maybe Polish/Eastern European.Nice views to dine at and would like to try the regular menu on another day.
Over all was ok.. best of all was the melted cheese with truffle. The steak, sirloin had some tendons, was a bit too chewy for my liking. The trout ceviche, was ok too, flavour with the orange / tangerine was tatsy but over all a bit disappointed for the price. 3 dishes plus 2 glasses of wine came to £83
I have to say our visit to Nutbourne restaurant for Laura’s birthday on the 28th May deserved 5/5. From the welcome at the beginning to the end of the meal the food and service were excellent. I had Burrata as a starter and a Lamb Ballantine as a main course and Laura had the Moules as a starter and Monkfish Tail as a main course. She thought the Moules were some of the best she’d had and thought very highly of the sauce / liquor. Likewise she loved the monkfish. Both of my dishes were excellent. As we’d been to the Nutbourne vineyard in Sussex we were aware of their wines so after a glass of the sparkling Wild and a cocktail we decided to have a bottle of the Wild as it was a celebration and went nicely with the food. Highly recommend this place.
Outrageously good food, service and location for this amazing restaurant.Oh, and also quite possibly the most perfect Bloody Maries in the world!!
Amazing experience at Nutbourne last night. Lovely surroundings and decor, particularly loved the church stools. The food was worth every penny. Flavoursome and amazing. Particularly loved the new potatoes with pesto, they were incredible. Will definitely be back !
Absolutely gorgeous little eatery tucked away, off the high street.Lovely decor, incredible food and amazing staff! The open kitchen and the quirky decor means youll be cosy and intrigued. Our lovely tapas style starters were so delicious and the mains were perfectly cooked. The local wine list was extra special and you must try the pink champers! Will definitely be back!
Really, really lovely spot. Had a wonderful lunch here with some quirky English wines from their own vineyard. Hot brownie with clotted cream and blueberry compote was an absolute knockout. Service was great, and all very Covid secure.
Nothing about this full English was good really. Everything was lukewarm to cold, poached eggs were overcooked, toast was borderline burnt. Seriously disappointing. Didn’t even rate the coffee. Only saving grace was the Bloody Mary, which was, in fairness, absolutely delicious.
We just had the tasting menu which was great. Very friendly and helpful staff. Will visit again.
So on a bit of a wim we went in. The staff were fantastic and very helpful. We ordered the Beef which came in a massive portion and a the biggest Yorkshire pudding I have ever seen. The beef was a bit blue for my tast but we managed. So if you like the blood in your beef and the already added service charge. Go in and enjoy this delightful spot next to Bailey and sage
The menu is very limited; that said, the food is barely ok. The best part of the meal was the butter that came with the focaccia! The focaccia was dry and hard. The courgette and home made ricotta was well presented but lacked in flavour. Deep fried courgette is always good but didn’t really go with the ricotta and surely the citrus segment didn’t go well in the dish. The bavette steak was ok, a bit tough but cooked properly. The spinach purée was horrendous! The bream was fine. Chips were good so was the bernaise sauce. As I said the food was ok but nothing special.Service, on the other hand, was appalling. We were completely forgotten, to the point where someone dropped the dessert menu and no one came to take the order. We waited close to 20 minutes for someone to come back to the table and that was after we flagged them! What a shame. Especially considering the restaurant was not full and there were plenty staff gathering around. The decor of the restaurant is quirky but needs a good clean as there were plenty cobwebs hanging from the decorations in the ceiling. The extractor in the kitchen is either not working properly or not good enough as the restaurant got full of smoke from the grill.I love the concept of farm to table but this place needs work, both on the menu and the staff training. I felt the staff were arrogant and not hospitable at all.
What a lovely slightly hidden gem. It’s tucked away but once you’re inside it’s a delight. Delicious food, killer wine list, and great cocktails. Not overlay stuffy and the attention to detail is there. Can’t wait to come back to hang on the deck. Delicious wine recommendation!
Great food, cool decor. Service a bit hit and miss but not really an issue.
I took my brother here for his 30th birthday on the Wednesday and we had an absolutely wonderful time. On Wednesdays they were doing £1 oysters and a glass of champagne for £8.50. It’s a lovely atmosphere with great lighting and a nice location on the waterfront. I recommend having some of the starters to share, followed by a salad to share and then we had a couple of mains to share as well. The portions aren’t too huge so it’s ideal for eating this way. Lovely staff as well, I will definitely go back :-)
