Lessingstraße 6, 90443 Nürnberg, Germany, Furth
Large, 19th-century indoor-outdoor railroad museum with vintage trains & interactive exhibits.
good place not only train mania but also kids! there is large kids playground with small electric train for kids. The big Diorama with N gauge is fantastic!
nice museum in central nuremberg
A huge museum woth working models and real trains. Perfect. We spent many hours there. But quite bad is that not a lot of information is available in english, but the app is available in english and for me it was enough information
Nice building. Havent been inside
Great museum with lots of full size locomotives.
My son love it! Very nice museum to visit. Specially for train lovers.
Really enjoyed the museum. Lots to see along with the communication museum. Well worth the visit and not very expensive if you have kids. Buy the family ticket. Two adults and up to four children for 14 Eur.
It is NOT allowed to enter the children area with a pram. One has to wait with a 2-month-old baby in front of the children area where no chair can be found. had to sit on the floor and breastfeed…
Wonderfully comprehensive yet engaging and interactive museum about the history of the railroad in Germany. I spent three hours here and definitely could have spent a few more hours here if I spoke German (all the signs were in German, and I was translating with my phone). I loved how the museum covers not only the "obvious" history of trains and transportation (such as evolution of trains, train artifacts and examples, testimonials about train workers and riders), but also dives into the cultural impact of trains on the European and world psyche. Just the first museum floor alone would be worth the price in admission, but there are two more floors! While the children on the first floor can get a bit noisily at times, the 2nd and 3rd floors were much quieter. Staff were very courteous and facilities were very clean.
All of the exhibits were amazingly done and meticulously curated. The large scale model train was amazing!
Absolutely great. Even though we dont speak German we found a lot interesting things in it. Lovely old machinery and many activities for kids. Worth every penny
Very nice museum where you can spend hours learning about the history of the railroads and everything connected with it. Kids will also love it, as they have one part of the museum dedicated especially to children.
Great museum with a lot of explanations and history and scale models as well as full-sized replicas.I wished that the exhibits had English translations as I would prefer to read instead of listening to the audioguide. The model train layout was quite a thing to watch.
Its a decent place but non German people would not really enjoy a lot as most of the text in the museum is in German. We did enjoy the trains and the real steam engines in the museum. But our experience would have been far more enhanced if we could have read things.
Brilliant museum if you have the slightest interest in trains, technology or infrastructure. The museum is very extensive, so you might need two days to see everything.
Great museum for anyone who loves trains. Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory would go nuts here. Great area for kids to play and have fun. There isnt much commentary in English. My favorite was seeing King Ludwigs salonwagon.
Quite small, but surprisingly interesting railroad museum. Dont forget to go the the second hall nearby.Theres an EV charging station nearby. Also a small Biergarten/Cafeteria inside. If youve got the Nürnberg Card, definitely visit this after the Tiergarten and Oldtimer car museums
I absolutely wish I could give this museum 5 stars. Its an awesome idea to get kids and adults interested in public transit. However, none of the copius wall text is in English, despite some of the headings of that wall text being translated. This is a German museum, and I totally understand. Thankfully there is an app with an audio guide. However, this becomes useless when there is someone inside using an angle grinder.
Fantastic display of German rail history. Quite cheap and theres a lot to see, if you like trains or have been riding the Deutsche Bahn its a must see.
This a very interesting place with lots of exhibits. The sectioned locomotive is very good and includes a sectioned Westinghouse pump. The model layout is a bit of a let down as there is too much going on. It was a great pity that the cabs of most locomotives were off limits and it was not possible to go inside the diesel hydraulic. But despite its shortcomings the museum is worth a visit.
Wow just saw now, its one of the finest Transport DB museums in the world. Showcasing the 15th century models to latest Ice madel Trains, pls visit 1st and 2nd floor to chk all old technologies in the communication and media devices.
Nothing in English. Staff does not speak English as well.Kids playground does not allow strollers - OK, but there is a parking lot for strollers in one entranc with the sign, but there is no sign about that nor stroller parking either. We entered from the side without parking and had been yelled at by several employees and had to leave with kid crying.
I really love transport museum and I don’t miss a chance to visit one when I can. This one was really nice and interesting. They even have a Ludwig II train which was impressive. I just wished there was more trains to see and also some translations in English. Some things were only in German which was frustrating.
One of the best museums I have visited!
I really enjoyed visiting this museum. Especially when youre a train enthusiast. The collections are huge, well organized and there is outdoor yard and two halls which show real old trains. But, pay attention that the train yard will not be opened in Winter. Recommended museum when youre visiting Nuremberg.
A very interesting museum with rich exhibits, some of them interactive, too. The only thing that somehow let me down is that, due to the sheer amount of things to see, I felt the layout was a bit confusing, leading us to get lost and see the same rooms again and again.

They let you come in with a pushchair. The whole place is pushchair accessible. They let you go to every floor of the museum with the pushchair..... They do not let pushchairs in the childrens zone!!! This means that children with mobility issues cannot enter the childrens zone. We were very rudely told to leave, and now have one very upset child. This policy should be made clear before one pays, as we were clearly going in with a pushchair!!
Amazing museum. So big and a lot of history
Many facts, nicely presented...
There are basically two museums in the same building that can be seen with the same ticket. For people on a one-day tour, you need to prioritise. I wanted to see the transportation museum (Deutsche Bahn museumbut unknowingly entered communication museum first and spent too much time there. For DB museum, turn right on the first floor (1990-2020 direction). The communication museum details the evolution of communication devices (telephone, tv, computer, internet, post). There are lots of exhibits and interactive exercises which would appeal much more to a younger age group.Transport museum details the history of rail networks in germany. There are a gazillion train models. There is also a train simulator which was quite realistic.Ticket is €6 for adults. For students it is €5.
Great exhibition. A lot of exiting models with different scale
One of the best and beautiful museum of the world
Nice museum. A combination of a transportation museum and a communications museum. Interesting presentations are a combination of past and future. It is a pity that all explanations and information are in German only.Easy access, within walking distance of the main train station
Fantastic transport and communication museum. You can easily spend 2 hours there alone or a whole day with the kids. They have real trains and a kids corner.
Excellent museum to know the history of train.Requires 5 to 6 hours to see the museum. There is also play area for kids.
Great place to visit if you are a railway enthusiast. Note in the winter the outside exhibits close early due to darkness, and in frosty/icy weather may be closed altogether. Not many displays have English translation, but it is a German Railways museum!
This is actually one of three Deutsche Bahn (German Railwaymuseums in Germany. It is really a fantastic museum. Excellent exhibits give a great history of railways in general, and in Germany. For example on the invention of railways and how railways changed the entire perception of time and travel. Historic train cars from King Ludwig II (Bavariaand Bismark. Great collection of model trains. Dont miss the communications museum on the 3rd floor, it is also extremely interesting. I spent much longer than usual in the transport museum, over 3.5 hours and I was rushing at the end. They give a discount if you have a train ticket!
This museum is really awesome. It was the most impressive transport museum I have been. 6 Euros is really cheap for its exhibition! But if you want to see everything, arrive by 10 am, have a big breakfast before, cause I took 5h there (and even didnt see everythingand I could stay. And please, RESPECT the signs of not touching things!
This transport Museum at Nuremberg has a lot of locomotives kept on display right from the early ages of development of steam engines till the latest eye candy - ICE. It has a toy train where kids can sit on each bogies and the train takes them on a small trip around. There are some simulations put together too for Kids.Kids who love trains will enjoy this place.
Very interesting museum dedicated to 🚆 train transport, but also with a section on communication and even a small area dedicated to the Post. Its a very good way to experience from the old steam locomotives to the royal Bavarian carriages, as well as to learn about how the rail network in Germany and central Europe came to be and developed.
Amazing! Great value for money, the tickets are cheap and you get to see a lot of cool things. You get the Deutsche Bahn Museum, Communication Museum and a lot of smaller but equally fascinating museums. Theres a big playground for kids, miniature train scale models show. You need an entire day to fully explore it. Huge thumbs up, we really had fun there.
Amazing place! Our little boys dream come true! Incredible interactive kids area, with ride-on train and huge, well-stacked train table. Wonderful exhibits...just fantastic. We spent the entire day here, and could have easily spent more.
Very interesting museum for railroad fans. The museum shows the history of German railways from the first start with the "Adler" (eaglein 1835 to today. The miniature railroad dates from the 1970s and many much better and bigger ones exist nowadays.Best are the wonderful scale models and the Kings Luxury Train.
Lots of awesome activities for kids. The kids play area is out of this world! The trains around the museum first floor are pretty awesome. The audio recorder explains some things in English, but not everything. Best to bring someone who can read German.
Perfect place to visit on a Sunday! The museum is fascinating and the treatment of the sensitive 1939-1945 period is especially well done. The exhibition narrative is 99% in German language so non-German speakers will need the audio guide (just €1however, it only provides a summary for some sections. Consequently, my travel companion felt a little left-out and I had to translate the narrative to maintain enthusiasm. The static trains, carriages and rolling-stock are a delight for everyone.
Entertaining and Educating. This museum goes beyond only a transport museum to also serve as greatly communication museum. This place does absolutely deserve a visit, I spent almost 3 hours exploring and learning in each corner I stepped in. Unfortunately, the content is 80% German.
Sehr gut! We visited with our two children and only wish we had been able to stay longer as there was so much to see. The ground floor was packed full of interesting history and amazing engines and carriages. We then discovered the brilliant childrens floor and the communication museum where we could happily have spent several hours but sadly only had 10 minutes before it closed😕. We return regularly to Nurnburg and so will go again next time.
Very nice museum! Lots of great exhibits. From model trains in all sizes (even moving ones), to real ones as well as train art; from the early to modern times. Nice setting and a very nice kids section. Very reasonable entrance fee. Certainly worth a visit, independent of whether youre a train person or not.
For me as an adult was a very nice place, the only thing is if you dont speak German then is very boring cause you can not read. But they have a great place for kids
