The Nomura family's restored Edo-era home features samurai artifacts, a garden & a tea room.
Quiet beautiful place with impressive garden
Delightful ambience. When there are few visitors you can sit and relax with a view of the pond.
The ticket was a bit expensive, but the Japanese styled garden made it worth it. Sitting by the garden feels so relaxing and peaceful, it’s the perfect place to spend some time after a tiring walk through the samurai district.
Thats what I liked most in Kanazawa. The Nomura family home is interesting, but the internal garden is absolutely enchanting. Absolutely worth the price of the ticket
A must-see samurai house with a stunning garden in Kanazawa. Every Japanese element is packed in this traditional architecture. You can enjoy true zen atmosphere in the garden and the tea room. Also, don’t miss out fine details of walls and ceilings.
The garden is just magical. Small but incredibly beautiful and peaceful. I am in love with the golden Koi; it was fat, beautiful and quirky.
Another recommend sightseeing when you are in Kanazawa. It is convenience to take tourist loop bus and drop off here. Inside the house is real Japanese style, small garden, some seats to sit and relax & green tea room upstairs. You can enjoy the history of Samurai too. Around the house there are cafe, restaurant & alley to walk around.
Very small and its indoor. So can plan it on the rainy day.
Nomura Clan Samurai Home is one of my favorite destinations in Kanazawa. This hidden gem offers sophisticated Japanese garden design and detailed room decors. You don’t see koi pond goes under the structure often. I love the combination and the tranquility of this yashiki. Everything was preserved nicely. Don’t miss the tea ceremony in the penthouse and the mini display room in the back. You will see Japanese sword (katana), ancients money, and much more. Highly recommended!
One of my favorite places to visit in Kanazawa. Such a beautiful garden and house. If you come early, you can enjoy the house and the garden more silently. Perfect start of a day.
Very tranquil and genuine experience. The house has a beautiful Japanese garden and from the deck one can enjoy some peace and quiet, even with many visitors.
The Nomura Samurai Clan house is a gem in Kanazawa, built in 1843. The Edo period house is beautifully decorated and refurbished, the sparse decor shows well the space during this time and you can admire the craftsmanship through furniture and drawings. The house has a beautiful Japanese garden with a stream, ponds with koi and many trees, including one of 400 years old. On the veranda or in the tea room you can the garden, which you unfortunately can not enter, good on yourself.
Rebuilt, Samurai Home of The Nomura Family. Very impressive so-called "Kobori Enshū Style Garden".
Beautiful Samurai House with beautiful gardens. There is also a possibility to have a green tea with view of the garden. Worth a visit.
Nice preserved Samurai House, the garden with the Koys is very nice. The small mueseum inside isnt worth it and in my taste its too expensive (550¥ per Adultalso watch out for big tourist groups. There are other free houses to visit by the Ashigaru museum which are more/nearly the same except the garden. The english translation is laking aswell.
This is a great stop to see the beauty of a samurai home belonging to the Nomura clan. While it is a short walk inside, you can enjoy green tea on the second floor for 300 yen per person.
Serene and beautiful environment. Lovely history. The fishes in the koi pond are a lovely sight.
Nice museum with gorgeous Japanese garden. There is nearly nothing in English, so its mostly for viewing purpose, which is still worth it. Too bad that all is in Japanese, but after a while travelling in Japan you get used to it and have to make research on your own in the Internet. There is a traditional tea room at the end, where they serve you green tea ($300 yen), and you can enjoy the view of the garden while drinking it.
Old samurai house that in the past was part of a much bigger complex. Ticket around 500 iens and worth it. Good garden and collection of old decoration.
Beautifully preserved ruins of a samurai house, you can have tea for 300yen upstairs and there is a small museum with some artefacts. There is a small pamphlet in English given when you enter which is useful too. Id recommend sitting by the garden and watching the fish, its really nice.
Well preserved house lived by a member of Kaga-han, with a compact but beautiful garden with koi pond. Lots of interesting artifacts and history to learn here but no English explanations other than from leaflets. It’s really a good idea to join an English guide tour to make the visit more informative. The house gets pretty busy during the peak hours. Admission is ¥550, and it is required to take off shoes to enter the house.
A little expensive for what all the house is but cool to see none the less. Theres a little museum in the back showcasing objects from the Edo period, a beautiful garden, and multiple rooms.
Nice to see, but overpriced for the house. Not much in terms of things, a nice garden, some swords behind glass, otherwise its just a Japanese house.
The walk to the house was also like a mini Kyoto. Narrow streets were quiet and charming. House itself and garden is a beauty
Very neat little museum! Cost ¥550 per adult and the house contains several rooms, a beautifully kept garden and a number of interesting artifacts. Most of the pieces have english explanations and the tour includes a little informational pamphlet. We didnt go with a tour group and so may have missed out on some other interesting information, but it was worth not dealing with 10-20 other people in small rooms. I think either experience would be good, and its worth going either way. Shoes-off household. Takes 20-45 minutes without a guide.
Like, as local attraction it was definitely a must see. Beautifully preserved piece of history and a gorgeous garden. But entry charge was a bit steep in my opinion 🙊
Wonderful Samurai house located in the Samurai district.Great enjoyable small house and koi garden with tea ceremony room upstairs. Beautiful surroundings and very peaceful.Interesting information and very friendly staffSmall, quaint and not overly touristy. Very authentic place to visitWill return!
Really fascinating to know that the high ranked Samurais stayed here, and the way they conducted secret meetings. You get different views of the minitiare garden and pond when you step into different rooms. Take note that you have to pay an entrance fee to enter, and it can get crowded with tour groups coming here occasionally.
In the Western world, we read and watch so much about the life of a Samurai - yet, here, in Kanazawa, one is given the opportunity to immerse themselves into the actual lifestyle of a well known Samurai. the zen garden, immaculately groomed, is still a source of inspiration. we were there on a rainy day, and it was the perfect place to meditate and imagine how life was here for this Samurai and his family, back in the day. Walking to the museum was pleasant, an area that perhaps one would not venture to if not for this museum. There was a delightful coffeshop right by the museum - for a Japanese pastry, green tea desert, or something warm to drink. It was as if we had experienced something genunine - no touristy, glitchy, gimmicky things here, just plain and simple Samurai living. Not to be missed. Enjoy1
Entry for adults is 550¥.The garden is super nice and quiet. You can have a proper matcha green tea with a sweet for 300¥ in a small tea ceremony room upstairs.
It wasa miniature version of the Kenrokuen gardens, very beautiful house. We had macha tea on the 1st floor with a view
This samurai home is a "must see" when visiting Kanazawa. It is quite large and has a beautiful garden that can be view from several rooms in the house. Do not miss this special house.
For about ¥500 per adult person you can visit a nicely preserved Samurai Home. There are rooms with traditional drawings and paintings inside, house shrine and some Nomura Clan belongings. The most important and beautiful thing inside is a house garden that is third most beautiful one in Japan. Definitely worth visiting. Before visiting this museum take a walk around the district to feel its climate.
Small place but connected with small museum. Small but good enough to know how they lived.
Expect spending about 30-45 minutes when you include a small break sitting along the beautiful garden. Interior feels authentic and gives some insight how it looked in the olden days.
Every time i visit Kanazawa i visit this place. I love the house as much as its peaceful garden. Recently the western tourist around the samurai district are increasing so the house is not so quiet anymore, but still beautiful.
Beautiful samurai house, very peaceful garden. Upstairs you can get delicious match tea served for 300 Y. Its a very nice and relaxing place to visit, far away from the crowd. Apparently its also in the top 3 most beautiful inner gardens in Japan according to an official ranking!
Incredible slice of history. The Nomura Clan house is incredibly well kept and has many displays showing artifacts from the Edo era. It has a beautiful garden that can be enjoyed in good weather. The house itself is located in the Nagamachi district, near many buildings of similar style (but those are private residences). Get there early to beat the rush as it is a very popular tourist attraction and will get very crowded very quickly. Entrance fee is ¥550.
For 1000 yen for 2 people it’s worth it for sure. You can see traditional tea areas and samurai dresses plus knives and swords. The highlight is the outside garden with the fish. Nice to spend 30 minutes of your time
House is a bit sparse inside but cool for a glance, the real draw is the beautiful small internal garden areas. Theres a very limited capacity area overlooking the garden where you can have tea for 300Y
Unique experience in traditional Samurai house... Beautiful garden in front, in which you can sit down and just enjoy sound of river stream. Mind your head though, as if youre above 175 cm you might hit the wooden ceiling support (as I did several times)😂
One of few houses that can actually be viewed also inside. Amazing spatial arrangement between interior spaces, impressive garden and cosy courtyards. Definitely worth seeing and chilling for a bit in the garden. Sightly busy though.
Interesting place. The property is where the original family home was located but the current house there was relocated to the site and had nothing to do with that family. The garden is however said to be original and is truly a wonder.
Amazing place! The gardens add a really special atmosphere to the place! The neighbourhood itself worth the visit!
Nagamachi was a samurai district located at the foot of the former Kanazawa Castle, where samurai and their families used to reside. The area preserves a historic atmosphere with its remaining samurai residences, earthen walls, private entrance gates, narrow lanes and water canals. One of the main attractions of the district is the centrally located Nomura-ke, a restored samurai residence displaying the lifestyle and artifacts of the era when samurai were prosperous.
If you are interested in the Samurai history, its a place to visit. Also have a marvellous garden.
Definitely worth a visit while you are in Kanazawa. The house features a beautiful garden with kois, painstakingly decorated corners throughout the whole estate and even access to smaller rooms on the second floor. I recommend to pay a visit when you want to take a rest since spending time by the garden is truly relaxing. The admission fee is 550yen.
Super cute Japanese house of the samurai Nomura, clan Kaga. It has a beautiful garden you can contemplate from three different angles. We have paid 300¥ each
Entrance fee: 750yen. Open until 4:30. Its totally worthwhile to spend 2 hours here. It has very unique & beautiful garden. The whole house is a harmonious melody of arts, nature, light blended into every corner. Walk slowly, and you will see a little garden in any footstep ahead. Theres a museum inside as well. Dont miss it ;)
The 550円 fee is really worth it just for the garden alone. When I went, luckly there were not many people so I could easily sit on the engawa for a long time and just absorb the beautiful atmosphere.
