Noa Seafood Restaurant - Seafood restaurant in Akureyri, Iceland
Amazing food at a fair price! We got some of the best food on our trip at this amazing place, the rainbow trout (as on the picturewas amazing and the dessert platter was too.Service was great, there was only one waiter, but she did an amazing job!I would recommend you to go and eat at this place, it is around a 15 minute walk or 5 minute drive from the city center
The place has good atmosphere and good service. I had the lobster pasta which was delicious and the portion just right, only problem was the lobster it self was way over cooked and thats why I only give it 4 stars. Everybody else was happy with their meal 😊
We absolutely loved this place! Great staff, fun location!Started with the meat and cheese plate. It had an excellent assortment of pork, lamb, and horse meats with lovely cheeses. The blueberry jam went well with the horse. We did the catch of the day and lamb shank for dinner. The catch was in a dill mustard sauce that complimented it well! The lamb shank fell off the bone and was amazing. We finished with a dessert platter and a drink in the lounge area. This was our favorite restaurant in the area.
I really enjoyed dinner at Noa. I had the trout and my husband had the lamb shank. They were both delicious! The service is very good and the people are very kind.
We were lucky to get a table without a reservation (late october and soon after opening time). The staff was very competent and friendly, the chef even took the time to check in and explain the specifics of the catch of the day.Said catch (spotted wolffishwas very good, but nothing in comparison to the sublime rainbow trout. Cannot recommend it highly enough!Prices are very fair by icelandic standards and for the food served.
We stopped in and were seated without a reservation. We all loved our meals; rainbow trout, cod, chef salad with langoustines and wolf fish (catch of the dayStaff were attentive and accommodating. Chef spent time with us talking about our visit, sites and his travel to the US. Highly recommend!
Food was AMAZING. Staff was accommodating, and chef came out and spoke with our table. He even gave us his dressing recipe (BEST dressing we’ve ever had and we’re avid salad eatersEnjoy your trip to the states and I promise you’ll love biscuits and gravy! Thanks for the incredible meals!!
Came as a walk in without reservation after searching for a local fish place for dinner. The waiter and waitress were friendly during order taking and serving. Not a lot of options but they serve one of the best fish Ive eaten and the chef sure know how to grill them! Totally recommend the rainbow trout for a sweet tooth and the cod fish dish too!! The catch of the day was fantastic as well, the chef came out to show us a picture of the catch of the day, a wolf fish, before returning to his kitchen. A quiet restaurant with us a family of six and a couple at 7pm on saturday. Although the veg served with the fish was simple, they complemented well with the fishes (we ordered rainbow trout, cod, catch of the day, bottle of wine)Good quality food, no regrets!
This restaurant certainly knows how to cook a fish! All the fish we ordered was perfectly grilled and wonderfully tender. The soup was creamy and warming, just as it should be. The only sour note in the evening were some dubiously strong pickles in the salad, and a slight overpowering of the lemon with vanilla in the (rather daringvanilla-butter langoustine. We were seated promptly without a reservation at 8pm on a Wednesday. The restaurant seemed about 50% full.
Showed up at 7 with 5 people. There were 9 open tables. After waiting 10 mins for someone to come to the please waited to be seated sign. We got turned away because they were "full" and told to come back at 9, but their sign said the close at nine... we ended up spending couple hundred at greifinn restaurant anyway. Way better environment anyway!- By full I mean only 2 tables were seated and no one in the waiting area waiting for table. The hosts was rude and not very nice. Also the owners review shows he is also a rude disrespectful person.
Staff wasnt particularly friendly. Food was super disappointing! Quite tasteless except for the lobster soup which was actually a great surprise. Lamb was bland and potatoes tasted like they were just microwaved. Catch of the day was alright but the veggies werent so great. You have better options for this price in Akureyri.
I wanted to come to Noa after a recommendation. I’m in an organized tour and some people wanted to join, so I booked for 10. Unfortunately the people changed their mind last minute, so I immediately called the restaurant to change the booking for 7 and THEN I CALLED AGAIN TO SAY IT WOULD BE MYSELF ONLY since I still wanted to try for myself. I understand this is disappointing, but there wasn’t much I could do apart from calling to correct the reservation. I showed up 30 min before my reservation, which they told me would be ok as I could wait upstairs. My table wasn’t ready until 30 min AFTER my booking, so in total I waited for 1hr and They didn’t even offered me a drinks menu and when I asked, the waitress had no idea what chardonnays they had! Plus “they don’t bring menus upstairs...only take real quick drink orders upstairs)...they are nice people but they miss more hands on the main room. The soup wasnt spectacular (the Thai touch hides the fish flavor)...Pity. I wouldn’t come back.UPDATE: their reply is simply not true: I did called a second time to say I’d be alone! They DID NOT take care of me and let me sitting upstairs for 1 hr. Of course I was angry as anyone would be expecting this to be a decent restaurant ....please just look at the way they are replying to these reviews: like children! Never mind, we’ll NEVER see each other again!
This place deserve 5 star for the food quality, service, atmosphere. I happen to walk-in without reservation and get a table 30 minutes later. We ordered catch of the day (spotted wolf), langoustine, lamb shank. All the dishes are perfect. Chef came out to check on how is the food and showed us the picture of spotted wolf fish. Great restaurant and definitely will stop by if visit Akureyri.
Nothing to write home about: whilst the fish was undoubtedly fresh and prime quality, it was disappointing to find it bathing in a sauce that was subpar. The vegetables served with the fish were average at best. The whole served-in-a-pan spiel feels very gimmicky and 2000s, and more importantly doesnt serve any purpose - that could definitely use an update. Its a shame the execution was a letdown because theres so much potential with the fresh fish itself: something I found to happen often in Iceland.
We had fish soup then the catch of the day in a pan and char. The fish of the day itself was nice, but the creamy sauce killed all of its taste. It was served with a few potatoes and salad vegetables which were in the pan as well. The mix was strange and the salad vegetables became warm which wasn’t very nice. Overall it tasted more like a canteen dish and would have been nicer to have just the fish with some herbs and lemon and some pan fried vegetables. The char was served in a pan with the salad in the pan as well and in a butter sauce. The sauce was not very nice and ruined the fish.Would not recommend having dinner there.Staff was very friendly and we paid around 13.000 ISK for 2 which seems fair for Iceland.
I ate the tastiest fish in this restaurant.Recommend if you can afford it!
Rainbow trout tastes soooooo good! Also the meat plate appetizer
We had a great time and dinner was fantastic. Chef came and showed us the picture of the wolf fish.He also showed us the Aurora website forecast. We were able to see it the following day in Reykjavik Blue Lagoon area... thanks.
As for me it’s the best restaurant in Akureyri. Cozy localization and the artistic interior of the house, lovely and friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere and good music. The food overcame the expectations. I tried trout and bacalao, served by Scottish chef Derek, who also told us many interesting stories about Iceland. Cozy second floor. In general - very nice place worth to visit while you are in Akureyri.
After 10 days in Iceland, I’d say this was the BEST meal me and my dad had!! I’d actually consider it the best meal I’ve had in my life.I called about an hour ahead to make a reservation and I was able to get a table. We ordered a couple different dishes and both were incredible! The lobster soup is a must as well! I’ll come back to Iceland just to come to this restaurant again.
This place is truly a gem! I should think that the place can get quite crowded especially in the Spring and Summer seasons but there were only 2-3 tables occupied when I was there on a Winter weeknight - but I was very happy since I prefer to avoid crowds and we got a taste of their absolutely superb meals and excellent service, even though there was only 1 staff on the ground (I believe her name was Christine?).First off, the decor of the place can be absolutely deceiving. It was professionally furnished and it felt more like you were in someones home than being in a restaurant. And the number of paintings and art pieces - just absolutely gorgeous! The meal: Fish - WOW! I have always appreciated how a good cook can serve up a dish in all its simplicity without trying to mask it with sauces and insta-worthy presentation. The fish was absolutely PERFECT! Served in a hot pan with some potatoes and greens as complements, the fish itself was fresh and cooked to perfection. This to me is how every meal should be cooked. My daughter does not quite like fish but we insist that she partake anyway and she started making strange faces. The Chef might have been watching and came to ask if everything was ok on our table. I felt so bad if he did came out to ask because of her since he might be concerned so, SORRY if that was the case - the fish was really good for my wife and I!Patrons may then venture upstairs where an amazing space awaits those who wants to sip on some coffee and lounge about since there were some crazy comfortable sofas and seats for anyone who just wants to chill and relax the night away after a hearty meal. More paintings and art pieces can be found strewn over the place (do they have some art classes during the day??and I think some books and magazines too. One can be forgiven to think they have stepped into a designer furniture store - its just so artsy, unique and tastefully decorated.Definitely the place to dine in if you are ever in Akureyri! Just absolutely stunning!
We managed to get a walk-in shortly after opening on a Saturday evening and ate some fantastic food (thank you Derek!in a great space. Would especially recommend the grilled langoustine and langoustine soup starters. And theres nothing wrong with sharing a pan if youre both having the same catch of the day : The restaurant also has a great gallery space upstairs in which to relax if youre full from three great courses of food. Art on the walls, comfy sofas everywhere. Also, do have the chocolate lava cake!
Id return to Iceland just to eat here! The langoustine soup is incredible and the catch of the day was just divine. The staff are amazing from the moment you walk in the door, and we went without a booking. The chef (from Aberdeenand his daughter came out to have a chat and were so hospitable. You will love everything about this place from the welcome to the upstairs lounge which is full of cosy sofas and art.
Came with a group of friends and believe I can say for all of us, we had a wonderful experience! The restaurant was easy to find, right off the main road. First walking in, the restaurant is uniquely decorated with art and has different areas where you can lounge and relax with drinks or to just to have some place to sit and appreciate the art around you following your meal. Regarding our meals, there was not a single thing we did not love. We started with the Norðlenska and then for the main course we had The Catch of the Day, Beef Short Ribs, Slow Cooked Lamb Shank and Bacaloa. Which was all amazing. To top it off, the chef came out to check on us, was so nice and took the time to speak with us for a little while. For dessert some of us had the Skyr and Créme Brulée. Coming out of that restaurant we all only had great things to say about the experience and the food. Thank you Noa for the wonderful experience and royal treatment! We highly recommend coming here!
Reservation needed or they will turn you away even though the restaurant looks empty as we saw them do to a few walk-ins. We reserved the day of and got a table. We ordered the spotted fish catch of the day and it was my best fish dish I’ve ever had at a restaurant. Moist and perfectly seasoned.
Lovely ambiance. Service was attentive and not intrusive. It appeared that they keep the total dining number small so that they can attend to all and maintain high quality in the dishes served. It was really a treat to be there. Felt like you were at someone’s home for dinner.Bread served in the beginning with the whipped and salted butter is very tasty. I’m not sure if that was home made or store bought. But I couldn’t refrain from eating more than one piece lathered with the very tasty butter. The butter must be made in house. One of my party ate spoonfuls of it without the bread! :)The langoustine was sublime. The price may be a little startling but this dish is amazing. The accompanying lemon butter dip is delicious but not necessary because the langoustine melts in your mouth without it.I also really enjoyed the fish and langoustine soup. The chefs take on it with some eastern flavors was really spot on. He mentioned that it had coriander, lemongrass, and coconut flavors. YUM!!!Fish of the day was wolffish. The sauce was delicious the fish was delicate. The rainbow trout was ok as well however was not a stand out compared to the other dishes mentioned. We enjoyed a bottle of yummy Pinot noir from NZ. The menu had said Pinot from France but the bottle was from NZ. Didn’t mind it because NZ pinots are delicious. They seem to have a nice collection of wines. Finally for dessert we tried the trio of ice creams and crème brûlée. Both were lovely. Nice end to the meal.We enjoyed the whole dining experience. We were the last to leave. Never felt rushed. This restaurant deserves more accolades and possible visit from the Michelin guide!
All 5 of us agreed our meals were superb! Bread and deliciously seasoned butter was brought to table for all to enjoy promptly after we were seated. Ordered starters of fish soup and smoked/preserved fish platter. Entrees were 2 orders of wolf fish, 2 orders of cod and 1 order of lagnostine. All meals included a good sized salad. Pan fried fish & sauteed vegetables were delivered to our table in individual skillets making it easy to share meals. Dessert was 2 orders of chocolate lava cake and 1 order of 3 different ice cream flavors (each flavor in its own dish). Waitresses were friendly and intent on making sure our meals came straight from their kitchen to our table.
Very comparable prices to other restaurants in Iceland. Langoustine is very well cooked, and a good sized portion with a nice salad. Braised short rib is very tender and a great deal. Only complaint is that we ordered three fish of the day and they served them all in one pan without helping us divide it at all.
We stiopped for a early dinner while traveling the ring road and were very impressed! We had the lobster salad and Catch of the Day. Both dishes had unique twists to their preparation and the result was amazing! The staff was friendly and accommodating, sharing information about the meal preparation and Icelandic culture.Make a reservation in advance as we were lucky based on our early arrival.
My girlfriend and I spent 9 days travelling Iceland. Akureryi was one of our stops. We went to this restaurant for dinner one night. We had the fish of the day (spotted Wolffishand the lamb shank. The food came super quick, and the food was outstanding. We shared the sample platter for dessert. Again, everything was amazing. On top of the the servers were friendly and helpful, and the decor is funky. This is a must for anyone travelling to Akureyri.
By far one of the best meals we had in Iceland. The fish was cooked perfectly and the service was friendly. Really a must when visiting Akureyri. Still think about this meal a week after we visited.
Totally overrated seafood restaurant. All dishes that we had were accompanied with the same boring mixture of salad, olives and pickled spring onions. Not very creative in my opinion. The veggi option (couscous with red peppercomes at the same price as the fish dishes and is rather expensive for what you get. At least portion sizes are ok.
Best food that my friend and I ate anywhere in Iceland. One of the first two people into be the dinner rush and what looked like several tables already reserved and one large party too. Im not totally into pickled herring but this place made me love it, if its done right of course. Plus the curry version was even better. Salt level? Probably a little higher than most people like it to be, but for me and my friend, on point! Did it need to be served in a pan though? Not really. The salad couldve been dressed with something to cut back the amount of salt though orjust something bright. Everything was cooked perfectly, fish, potatoes, mushrooms and the sauce. Scottish chef! My mistake.
Great seafood! We split the seafood appetizer which had a few types of fish- all of which were amazing! Then we both ordered the Catch of the Day in which the server brought us a frying pan with five, large pieces of fish in a white butter sauce with potatoes, and a salad. It was all reasonably priced for the quality of the food!

This is by far, the best restaurant I have been in Iceland so far. We ordered the "Catch of the day", which was Hlyri or Spotted catfish. We also ordered the Mussles and Trout. Everything was very special, and big portions. This restaurant is also an art gallery, and a furniture store, which makes it pretty cool.
Amazing place for dinner. Fresh fish from a few miles away served perfectly. Super friendly chef and staff. Enjoyed the artwork as well. Definitely worth a visit if you’re staying in Akureyri.
We just had our engagement dinner their. We ordered the rainbow trout bs the rib eye. Both amazing and the service spectacular! Thank you so much for a mind blowing experience.
Very fancy restaurant with tasty seafood and cozy waiting area in the second floor. Wonderful waiters and chef. Try "Catch today ", wont regret.
Quick service and good food. Especially the Nordlenska starter is a delicious piece of art. Catch of the day (spotted wolffishand rainbow trout were well prepared.
Great restaurant with absolutely delicious and fresh seafood, very kind and friendly staff, and fantastic interior. The food is served on pans and every bit of it is worth the price :). It was a great pleasure to spend here some time, I sincerely recommend the place.
Easily the best meal we had in Iceland! We tried both options for catch of the day (Ling & Spotted Catfish), Rainbow Trout, & Norðlenska (meat & cheese plate), all of which were excellent. If you like strong flavors, the Rainbow Trout dish is for you; eat the skin with the fish, its phenomenal! After trying all of the dishes, I doubt you can go wrong with anything on the menu; the chef prepared everything perfectly. They serve local fish, local beer & showcase local artwork. The staff were very friendly, helpful & professional. Noa is a fine dining experience in a casual atmosphere with affordable pricing. If you find yourself in Akureyri, it is an essential stop.
This was the most incredible meal the two of us had in Iceland. Their fish of the day is to die for. It was so good that after our meal we booked a table for the next night so we could enjoy the greatness one last time. Cosy upstairs section which is perfect for a couple of drinks before dinner. Lovely staff! Would highly recommend this place for dinner to anyone travelling to Akureyri.
Great dinner experience. They have a good selection of dishes on the dinner menu. Wanted to order them all, but were not able to due to our prior commitment to a night tour. Ordered the langoustine salad and soup of the day. Both wonderful and fresh.
Nice cozy location, friendly staff, fish (charwas delicious, fried with vegetables in pan. Overall great location.
I ordered colored trout and my friend ordered catch of the day (spotted catfish). Both of them were great. I can still remember the taste of that buttered trout. Probably one of the best fishes I ever had. Staff was very helpful too.
Best meal we had in Iceland in terms of seafood. The fish is incredibly fresh, they come cooked to perfection on a skillet with the crisped potatoes and greens tossed in there. The caramelized trout was PERFECTION. Totally worth it. Expensive but standard icelandic expensive.
Delicious. I ordered three different dish- cod, wolf fish, rainbow trougt- and all dishs were good. And cod was the best!
Excellent meal, ample portions. We had the fish of the day, spotted wolffish; salted cod; and rainbow trout. All were excellent and came with potatoes and salad served in a frying pad. Everyone loved their meal. Eclectic interior decorating and nice atmosphere.
We went here in June based on recommendations from hotel staff. It was excellent. Bacalao (reconstituted codwas absolutely delicious and perfectly cooked. It was not dry or salty, the texture is like fresh fish but with a more concentrated fresh fish flavor. Rainbow trout was very good too but I was surprised that the local rainbow trout looked more like salmon to me, big and pink.Overall a wonderful meal. The owner was very nice in warning us about a large, loud party coming in so that we could decide to stay or not.He checked on us through the meal and explained to us what Bacalao was.
