Modern and traditional washoku Japanese dishes in bright space with bold art and high-backed chairs.
It’s a hidden gem in Bristol. The quality of the food was amazing! (Portions might be a bit bigger tho)! 🥰
This hidden gem is definitely worth a visit. Outstanding sushi - rice cooked to perfection, flavours and presentation spot on. Cute arts on the walls, super service and splendid selection of everything. Honest and authentic experience. Will definitely be back!
I ordered as a takeaway. Quite tasty, good variety of rolls to choose from, I like that you can get a half size roll as well. I had spicy tuna roll and crunch salmon roll and both were great. I also had the gyoza which I really liked as well.
A very friendly place, easy and quick to order using QR codes. The food is really delicious. We all loved it.
Amazing food and incredibly friendly service . I would definitely recommend this place to friends and family
During covid we were forced to go to Clifton instead of zanzibar and to make the experience on par we committed to go to the best restaurants in the area. Noa ended up on our radar thanks to a friends recommendation and we came here twice in a single week. The food was absolutely incredible. The highlight was the dragon roll, I must have eaten four of them over the course of a week. An unpresuming Japanese restaurant in a romantic part of town and hands down the best Japanese restaurant I have been to in the last 10 years. Untold thanks to the kitchen staff.
The staff were lovely, the food came promptly and was so delicious!
Bad culinary cosplay! Overpriced and low quality Chinese impression of Japanese food. Ordering is via a clunky app you have to get on their WiFi to use. Spicy tuna temaki was lacking in tuna and instead stuffed with rice and sad salad, the spicy being brought by big globs of sriracha. Crispy beef teriyaki was OK but big chunky greasy veg that came with was unappetising. Didnt come with rice but was offered rice which turned out to be £2.70 for a small bowl when the bill came. Used to be so good but quality has vastly dropped in the intervening years
Least authentic Japanese food in Bristol. Very overpriced and highly disappointing. The "fried" chicken udon noodles were a flavourless sloppy mess with boiled chicken. Vegetable tempura was OK.
Fantastic, authentic Japanese food - looked and tasted amazing. Very friendly staff and good service. Good atmosphere and food came quickly
Very nice team running a busy Saturday night. Excellent food.
Almost every other Japanese restaurant I have been too, has been a haven of minimalist calm and serenity. This is the exception - clutter describes it quite well.Like Wetherspoons, there is table service via an app. This works very well after one puts in the correct wi-fi address whicis incorrectly promulgated everywhere - this, dear reader, hopefully, has been corrected by now.No complaints about the food though - as authentic as it could possibly be.Many previous reviewers have made issue with the imposed 10% service charge. I too prefer to contribute this independently when I see fit, but this alone will not inhibit further visits.
Really tasty food. Felt quite authentic, even down to the blaring K-pop! 😂
Great food and very good portions. Loved it.I was craving for vegetarian sushi and we had Veggie platter, spicy veggie roll, verde veggie spring roll, veggie wakamame roll and miso soup
Sushi is ok. The lady in her 50’s who I think is the owner claimed she does not get paid and all she receives from the owner in salary is the service charge. I asked for it to be taken off the bill and was told the owner will be angry with her and not pay her. It can not be removed from bill apparently as that is what covers staff costs and napkins 🤷♂️. Will report as illegal business practices going on according to staff.
Usually fresh sashimi but not always. Ridiculous service fee added at the end despite it being self service ordering with an app
Great food and service. The website ordering bit by bit to the table is fun.
Food was nice enough, staff fairly friendly although little interaction due to order method. I think it is disgraceful how they can add a 10% service charge on a bill for two people on Monday lunchtime, especially when you order food, drink & even request the bill through your phone. Left still hungry
Amazing food. Friendly staff. Nice atmosphere.Would recommend.
Order takeaway from Noa nearly every week. I think the best sushi in bristol. salmon is always good quality and soft shell crab rolls come with a decent amount of crab and sauce. Never visited the restaurant.
As you walk in, the restaurant does look authentic and Inviting. Ordering takes place through a link, food preperation does not take long. Even baby changes tables are present. We did NOT try sushi.Plates clearly strive for quality over quantity, yet to quality was not amazing to begin with. I ordered the cheapest main - teriyaki tofu - slab of runny tofu with a single bite of salad. Got a handful of rice with an invisible charge of 2.70£. Total of 10£, marking this as one of the most disappointing plates, for such price, Ive ever had.Upon finishing, we asked to spilt the bill - waitress looked absolutely clueless and we ended up paying half of the bill, even tho we only ordered 3 out of 9 items on the table. So, after paying 35£ for 2 cheapest mains and water - would not recommend. We left hungry and shocked. Definitely better options all over the area.
Highly overpriced, inauthentic. Youre better off cooking Japanese food at home (the tempura was good though, the rest is pretty meh)
From the photos online it looks like a nice place, in reality the restaurant is not nice and there is a stench that I cannot define, but not pleasant. The coke zero we ordered didnt taste like coke and I have no idea what it was but Im pretty sure it wasnt that drink because I drink it every day and I know what it tastes like. We had to order with the QR code even though the waitress was standing in front of us and we were in trouble. The sushi was mediocre and very expensive despite not being good. I would not go back and if you like authentic Japanese food this is not the place for you. Im sorry because the waitresses were nice but thats the only positive.
Amazing quality and delicious sushi! We ended up going twice in a row! Friendly and helpful staff as well.
We ordered a take away bento box and ramen. Really horrible unfortunately. Was super greasy, the ramen tasted like a very cheap chow mein, the bento box was more like sweet and sour Chinese. Not up to scratch at all.
Very nice set meals for 4. Not the cheapest but then probably most of the bill went on Sake which was cracking. Excellent service from all the staff. Would go again, no problem.
Booked lunch here a few weeks ago when family came to town without having been here before. The lunch deals were good value and the food was superb, couldnt fault it! The only thing is that due to having to order on the website now they dont give you menus to look at which we did find annoying. But the service was great, and they had a high chair for our toddler. Would recommend.
Had dinner with my husband today and took some food for our kids home. Not coming back again - sushi quality was below average. We ordered two spicy rolls - they were so spicy that both of us developed heartburn.. No water was served initially, I had to ask for it. Ordered chicken teriyaki as take away but got a different dish instead. I think it’s first time in our life we threw sushi in the garbage.. and all for £80
Terrible. The worst sushi I have eaten in Bristol. So much thick rice stuffed in their maki rolls, I couldnt believe it. The same with the hand roll too. The chef should know better than that. I had to unwrap each roll and remove half the rice to taste the fish. Wow. Is this authentic Japanese cuisine? Lol. Please go to Fujiyama in Bristol instead. Its ranked the best Japanese place in Bristol by far but is closed on some days in the week. But, rest assured, the food quality and its authenticity are at a whole different level. (Ps. Look at the pic to see how much rice I had to remove from each maki piece. And that was only half of it!)
Best sushi I have had. I will definitely takeaway again, when I am visiting Bristol!
Noa is a fantastic restaurant with lovely food and a perfect environment. The food was incredible and fast to arrive with the website ordering. Everything tasted fresh and had generous portion sizes.
This is my second time ordering from Noa (take awayand I found their sushi really tasty! They were even kind enough to stick in an extra roll of sushi for us. The only thing to fault was that there was a lot more rice to filling in the sushi and not enough wasabi! Would definitely order from here again :)
Great quality and values lunch time menu options. The photo shows the salmon and tuna bento set.Social distancing measures are observed. Ordering is easily done via a website.
We went here for lunch, always best to book as very busy. Great service and beautiful fantastic food, very fresh seafood. Friendly staff. Particularly impressed by the care taken to ensure that their Covid precautions were as unintrusive as possible. We will come back soon!!!
As shown in below reviews (glad it wasnt just us!one of the current waitresses at this restaurant was extremely rude and aggressive with us, after we encountered an error with their online ordering system. My friends order came through twice due to an error on the app. When we realized what had happened, my friends went up to explain the situation and give back the double meal. They explained calmly, but the waitress kept interrupting them so they couldnt even finish explaining. This made them try to explain again, and as they did, she started getting more and more aggressive and continued to interrupt until she was shouting at my friends. She kept insisting that we had made the order. Then refusing to take food back into the kitchen. Then insisting that we still need to pay for the order even if it was an error. When my friends sat back down, we could hear the waitress shouting in anger/distress to the kitchen staff from the other side of the room, making us feel even more uncomfortable about eating there then we already did.She was acting as if we were trying to rip her off, or as if we were attacking her- but all we wanted was to return the extra food we hadnt ordered. She was unnecessarily aggressive and refusing to accept the mistake of the order. In any other restaurant Ive been in, even in worse situations where the waiter has ordered the wrong thing themselves as opposed to an app error, they still always apologize, take the food back and get on with the day.
Absolutely appalling customer service, I’m still reeling! After we arrived we were instructed on how to order using the table app and given the password. My partner’s phone does not work with QR codes, so I ordered for us and my friend ordered for herself. Our order seemed to go through fine, but my friend’s phone showed up an error so worried it would double order if she refreshed or went back she called the host over to try and explain. The host didn’t really let her explain and started pressing on her screen (not covid friendly but that’s not the start of it), it seemed to had gone through and my friend made a comment of “I just want to make sure it didn’t order twice” but there was no real response so thought it was ok. A few minutes later two plates of cucumber maki came out which instantly sent alarm bells as there should had been only one. My friend instantly tried to rectify the situation and spoke with the host hoping to stop it before the rest of the order came through, who was extremely rude and kept repeating that the kitchen has already cooked the food! We tried to calmly explain what we think had happened, and that was why we called her over when we thought there was an error on the app but she was having none of it and tried to force us to take the extra food “you can take it home!” “It’s cooked now, it’s not my fault”Honestly we tried being as respectful as we could but it got to the point we were close to walking out, she was getting very angry with us and expecting us to pay the extra £15 for the double order. We explained how we understood it wasn’t her fault, but it wasnt ours either and that we had tried to explain when we called her over the first time, she was only interested in agreeing it wasn’t *her* fault, and that we should still pay for the extra food.I understood that it might had been confusing that there were three receipts and three of us but I also tried to explain why my friend had ordered her food on her phone and I had ordered two lots of food on my phone because the QR code didn’t work on my partner’s and her response was “why not?”At one point I said to her “We can’t afford to pay for a meal we won’t eat because of an error on the app” and her response was for us to take it home and eat later (not for free - which we didn’t want/expect anyway!)In the end, after a lot of her raising her voice to us and interrupting us she finally agreed to stop forcing us to have the extra order, which she was clearly not happy about as she stormed back in the kitchen and where we heard lots of shouting. The entire meal was completely ruined, as it was a quiet period anyway the atmosphere was really tense and awkward. The whole experience ranges from completely bizarre to infuriating. I simply did not have the fight left in me when I saw the service charge that was enforced at the bottom of the bill, we just wanted to get out as soon as possible
Food is top quality, I didnt really like sushi until I came here, We make noa priority once a month or even twice :See you again soon!
Taste just normal.A little bit pricey for what you got.Mayb they change the owner of the restaurant so the quality of the food is dropping. They also add extra service charge in the bill so check before you pay.
Exceptional food and delicious sake flight. So pleased we stumbled across it on a flying visit. The prawn gyoza were genuinely the best I have ever had - I will definitely be back any time I visit Bristol!
Where to begin on the worse hospitality Ive ever experienced. And worse than average Japanese food (cooked by Chinese chefs). The main waitress was awful. Shouting at customers to leave their table because the restaurant had over booked themselves, shouting in Mandarin at all of the staff and chefs, grabbing another waitress who spoke better English by the arm and dragging her over to our table when THEIR QR code system was failing to order correctly. We ordered as they told us to, scan the QR code, order the food. We did this but we got an email saying it went through as a collection instead of eat in, despite the online ordering never having an option for collection or eat in. This error also happened to numerous customers that night as well. We told one of the waitresses about it who came back and said its okay, shed sorted it. The main/head waitress (the awful onethen began to shout at us loudly for ordering it wrongly, when it is their system not us for the error then stating we did not get the right to Eat out to Help out because of this. We wanted to leave at this point and said just cancel it, were leaving. Next she says she cannot cancel it or give a refund so we have to eat in. Anyway, after all this is going on which took about 20 mins because of their lack of social and hospitality skills and running around like headless chickens, the food came, so had to stay and eat. Food was poor, no flavour, no soy sauce on the table, no wasabi, just absolutely nothing authentic. Crispy sushi was okay. Thats it. My partner eventually was able to get a refund the NEXT DAY, at an inconvenience to us. The head waitress needs to be sacked or re-trained. Never in all my life have I been treated in such an appalling manner in a restaurant. We are the paying customer. This is not British custom at all and would not go back to this place if someone paid us. Diabolical. Despicable. Im currently in the process of contacting every local food agency that awarded them credits as this establishment does not deserve them currently. The new management need to shape up as they will lose customers at great magnitude if not.
Food was good but everything else was absolute chaos - booking, arriving and paying were all a total shambles. We made a booking over the phone a week in advance, but when I called later to confirm the time of the booking they struggled to find it. Rather than keep looking, the response was just to put the phone down mid-conversation. Sure enough, when we turned up to the restaurant they had no record of the booking-the notepad was a bit of a mess so this wasnt surprising... After a lot of back and forth we were eventually shown a table (and after a bit more back and forth we got the right number of chairs).People were being moved around throughout the evening on a constant basis as they clearly had no control over what reservations were supposed to be sitting where, but the way this was achieved was just by barking and ordering people to get up and move - no reason or apology given. There was also no control over the food and drink coming out- we recieved multiple extra drinks that we didnt order (but were expected to pay for), and staff were literally running about the place trying to keep things in order. Finally, after paying, we were chased down the road by the owner and one of the staff (the same one who we had paid via card literally 2 minutes earlier), accusing us of leaving without paying. We had to show a screenshot of our mobile banking app to show evidence of payment. So clearly they have no record of who has paid and who hasnt. The worst bit was that the woman who we assume is the owner was incredibly rude and unprofessional to both customers and staff - she left one waitress really flustered after she shouted at her in the middle of the restaurant - not really acceptable. The food isnt good enough to outweigh the carnage of how the place is run -Id only recommend it for takeaway.
The worst restaurant experience I have had in my life. Waited almost 2 hours for food and when it arrived we had to wait a further 30 minutes while we consistently asked for another chopstick (we were only given 1).We also asked for soy sauce & water about 10 times before giving up hope. The manager was shouting at her staff & customers throughout. They added a 10% service charge to the bill, and refused to remove it. I didnt have the patience to argue, just wanted to leave at this point.Food was fine.
From the sushi side of things its very good, but I found other things I tried on the menu to be not overly authentic such as the gyu don which is more like a Chinese dish rather than proper Japanese gyudon. Would only go here to have sushi and not the other stuff. Also the waitresses speak only very limited English (in some cases no English at alland shout quite loudly across the whole restaurant in Chinese which I thought diminished the atmosphere quite a bit. The sushi bento I ordered on my last visit however was very nice and a big portion.
Really fresh and good Japanese food! Amazing salmon carpaccio, teriyaki beef, soft shell crab sushi rolls. The softest beef tamaki. We will come back thank you!
Had a delicious dinner here. Absolutely enjoyed it. Would love to visit again. Anyone looking for a great japanese this is the place. Enjoy!
Brilliant helpful staff, gave great recommendations and told us a little history about the drinks and food. Delicious, quick and fairly priced.
Great food, excellent service. Even little one loved the food.
the best Japanese restaurant I have ever been, amazing food and service, never dissapoints!
Good service, great food and lovely staff. An interesting range of Japanese food is on offer here, and the prices are reasonable.Everything was fresh and well presented. We will definitely be returning to Noa.
Changed the owner and reopened again recently! The Chief is the owner with more than 20 years experience in Japanese cuisine! All ingredients are fresh and came from Japan. The Chief lays emphasis on Food quality, taste and appearance! Recommend everyone to try this restaurant!
