No.1 China restaurant 绍兴饭店 - Restaurant in Taupo, New Zealand
No.1 China restaurant 绍兴饭店 in Taupo
Description
Privilege
Chinese dishes was very good and have enjoyed it
Restaurant was closing when we walked in 2 and half hours early so they said they wouldn’t seat us dispute 2 tables sitting there one of which was looking at the menu- I’m Caucasian but lived in China for the last 10 years and have never been treated with such disrespect- I didn’t let them know I speak Chinese and over heard them talking racist comments - even there website is only in Chinese- with some CCP propaganda on it
MoreThe staff said there are absolutely no fish available on the day but then the group that came after us were eating fish dishes...Portions were small also. Foods are too salty.
MoreWe feel very grateful to be able to have some decent Chinese food in Taupo after a day in the ski field with two kids!
MoreNice environment and friendly stuff.Food is great too.
Good service, ample parking, food pretty good, portion a little small.
The best most tastiest chinese food Ive had in a looong time, highly recommend you dining here 💯
MoreGot fried rice, lemon chicken and dumplings for takeaways and its the best Chinese Ive ever had!
MoreTerrible bland tasteless food and no service..Worst Chinese food we have ever tasted . Totally overpriced - restaurant virtually empty.
MoreFood was very bland and service was terrible, didnt even get offered more drinks. Meals were slow to come, some of us were finished by the time the rest of the meals came out.The best thing is the lollies when you go to pay.
MoreI didnt take a photo oops. Probably because I ate the food to damn quickly. I felt like I had the raging munchies or something because their food was really good. It was quiet, peaceful and lovely.
MoreThe food was below average. I trid the traditional dish of Shaoxing- Shaoxing duck. The skin was chrispy but the meat was tasteless and dry. The Sichuan boiled fish was not spicy at all. The other two dishes were very oily. It costed over 100 for two people. The two stars given are for the lake view and service.
MoreExcellent service. Great food. Fresh, tasty, fast.
We came here, ordered via phone due to level 3 lockdown. Ordered, sweet & sour pork, chicken and vegetables, chicken fried rice, half duck and beef and oyster sauce. Chicken was put in with the duck and both were dry af. There weirdest sweet & sour pork it was brown in colour - didnt at all taste like what we wanted. Beef and oyster sauce was like they had picked up the scraps that fell on the floor, and added sauce disgusting. Chicken and vegetables and chicken fried rice was OK. Out of all of the order these 2 were the only eatable dishes.BUT we have been here before, we ate in and it was AMAZING! sad this order was bad.hoping it was just the lockdown craziness that let the place down
MoreWe arrived as a group of 6 and ordered a dish each to share.after waiting a while 1 small dish arrived, so we waited and about 10 mins later a second arrived, then another 10 mins a 3rd. We were waiting for all to arrive before we started, so we asked how far away the other 3 dishes (which includes the rice and noodlesthey came back and said to start eating as the other dishes were a while away. these arrived in about another 10 mins and arrived pretty close together.while most of the dishes were tasty, they were very small. the Shrimp and cashew should have been called celery with some shrimp and a few cashews and this cost $32All in all, we were disappointed and felt it was very expensive for what we got. sorry we wont be back.
MoreAwesome service food was excellent best Chinese food Ive had in awhile
We ordered the food but had to wait long, dishes did not come out altogether so we ended up sharing, Kung pao chicken was extremely salty along with the sliced pork, dishes are slightly small portions but overall a mixed bag with the food and service.
MoreI love this restaurant so much. Absolutely everything is so delicious. We drove from West Auckland to eat here on my birthday because its my favourite place in Taupo . Try the buffet recently it was amazing , or the crispy duck anything on that menu at all is incredible.
MoreNever ever tasted chicken dish so bad in my life! Its ridiculous. Very poor quality food. Small selection and very bland flavor. I wont be back.
MoreFriendly service. We had their $19.99 buffet special. Their buffet style was different to what Im used to. You Order unlimited items from their set menu. Servings were very very small. Food was tasty, but the deep fried items we had were dark brown, which to me means the oil was not clean.
MoreWell what can I say. First impressions were god this place needs a Gordon Ramsey makeover, its stuck in an 80s look. Very dark, tacky flashing lights, dated.Very pleasant polite staff.Menu not overly extensive, good choice.Wonton soup was flavourless & wonton all noodle with little filling.Lemon chicken was very nice & lemony.Grandmas pork dish was burnt & not like the picture at all.Would I go back, never.Come on owners smarten the place up, you could make the place hum with some effort.
MoreFood was very good. Came out fresh and still sizzling. Cumin lamb and Sweet and Sour were sublime. Grandmothers brown sauce pork was yummy.Because we were dining as a family we ordered several dishes and shared.Meals arent huge but they were hot and very tasty.Service front of house was friendly and efficient. Its a Sunday, mid Winter so very quiet but we got our food super quick and cannot fault our server. So attentive and polite.1 star off a full 5 stars because we couldnt have the first dishes we chose due to being unavailable and we ordered fried rice noodles which never arrived much to the disappointment of my two boys.Other than that, would eat here again happily.
MoreOrdered online. Arrived to pick up and was told "you need to wait for 25 minutes"?! Whats the point I pre-ordered 2 hours ago?! No apology what so ever. Needed to ask for a discount, and was 1st given $3 off?! What a joke.Food was sub-par, worst than any take-away and way overpriced.Wouldnt recommend this to anyone.
MoreLoved the food the dumplings were the best! Staff were very friendly only downfall was it was a bit cold inside the restaurant...Would still recommend x
MoreWe ordered a number of dishes and then combined a couple to have a nice meal. 3/7 were nice including the bok choy n garlic, beef n oyster sauce and fried noodles. The sweet n sour pork reeked of vinegar and then tasted burnt. The prawn chamoi were gluggy and bland. The crispy duck was over crisped and hard to eat due to all the bones. The place is quite shabby and the girl serving us had no customer service skills. She seemed annoyed to be there. Overpriced.
MoreGreat service and good taste. Highly recommended for someone who wants authentic Chinese food.
MoreDespite the food being great, the interior seemed a bit outdated. A few bugs spotted here and there which can be a put off. The exterior however looks nice - beautifully designed as anyone would expect with Chinese architectural designs. Service was average although they were very welcoming nonetheless. Would definitely visit again just for the food, but might choose to be seated outside this time to avoid creepy crawlies during the summer season 🙃
MoreFood is not good. The chicken corn soup didnt have seasoning, it just taste sweet. The beef noodles too salty and had a lot of cabbage, only has few noodles. The meat taste like it was just reheated and very chewy and dry. Not good value for money.
More3 🌟 is for the food alone. Sweet n sour pork is great it reminds me of orange beef, it has a sour molasses flavor to it not a fake out of the bottle sauce. Fried rice is delicious too, light and not greasy. The service is the let down here, always having to get the attention of the waiting staff. Some people are made to order at the bar and others have someone taking their order from the table and Yes they were all eating in. Water served was warm. They now have service buttons at each table hopefully that will help with service.
MoreOk well I’m not one for reviews. But today I went into a place thought looked nice from the outside but inside was awful. My girlfriend and I went in hoping for a lovely Chinese and came out with a bug on her back.Firstly we walked in waiting to be seated, the waitress came over “sit where you want” ok thenWe sat at table 2 got out orders in, we ordered dumplings for starters and sauté spicy chicken and grandmothers pork for mains. The waitress came over and gave us 2 forks for the whole meal.... ok.As the meals are getting made, I look over to my girlfriend and there is a cockroach crawling behind her shoulder, I get up flick it away from her, we then swap seats as she’s afraid there are more, I get to her seat and see 2 dead flies, one on the table and one on the window ledge.Anyway the food arrives, well the mains did, the food wasn’t to bad to be fair! But the chicken came out with a fork for serving, then the dumplings came out just as we were finishing. Then as we were leaving emma had a bug on the back of her dress.I just hope the “No1 Chinese restaurant in Taupo” can resolve these issuesAnyway I’ve never done a review before but if I don’t say something then someone else may have this problem.
MoreWe ordered fried beef with leek, dumplings and prawn noodles. The fried beef was too salty. Even i like salty food, i couldnt eat it, so i sent the dish back. Then they gave us the same dish just rinsed off.So basically the beed was still salty, then everything was over cooked and worse. And for dumplings.. Ive never been a restaurant where serve broken dumplings. It has to be juicy inside. But everything was broken, no juice inside, the pastry was too thick and doughy.I would never go back there or recommend to someone.
MoreServing is more thn enough for us.Ambiance is good.Service is so so
Went there as we were under the impression it would be amazing due to the name. What a mistake!Fried rice had a VERY weird tang to it. The kung pao chicken was overly salty and had way too much soy sauce. Springrolls you can buy a 40 pack at pak n save for about $15. cost us $12 for 5-6. Looked much bigger in the picture. Over all wasted about $70. Went to Burger King afterwards. Wanted to take the family out as a treat but was sadly disappointed.
MoreThe food was a little different to what we are used to in Chinese restaurants but it was just as delicious
MorePossibly the worst chinese food Ive had. The fried rice was full of cooked frozen vegetables and the smallest little peaces of diced meat. Very small spring rolls with hardly any filling. $25 lunch, total rip off. I should of gone to noodle canteen
MoreThe worst takeaways we have ever brought.Sweet and Sour tasted like Soy Sauce.Very expensive as well, never paid those prices in the whole of New Zealand for Chinese.Would not recommend at all.
MoreUnfortunately, they failed to live up to their branding of being the “number one China restaurant.” We went here for a takeaway dinner and we were told we had to wait for 30 minutes. We asked if they can just call us once food is ready, which they agreed to (we were staying somewhere nearby so we can return once our order was ready).Upon ordering, almost all of our choices were no longer available. We just then settled for whatever is available and seems good. After 30 minutes, no one has called us to pick up our paid orders and it was almost their closing time. So we decided to call them instead. Good thing we did as apparently, our food was already ready for pickup.Food didn’t taste that good, unfortunately. Pretty bland. I’m certain you can cook your own similar dish without having to pay and wait for a long time for food to be ready 😬
MoreA pretty good Chinese restaurant serving good and authentic Chinese food that tasted great and fragrant. The staffs are friendly and helpful. The place is big but because of the Covid-19 it was empty when we were there. Most of the tables are big so it is great for big group, that way, you can try different dishes by sharing.
MoreI would never ever go there again or wouldnt recommend to anyone. We had to send two dishes back one was still frozen in middle pork bun, and the prawn dumplings were of as we find out after taken a bite. The sweet and sour was burnt and the waiter didnt care. We had to pay for food which we didnt eat as it was disgusting and we have eaten at many Chinese restaurants this was not worth the time
MoreAwesome meal... good size and lots of flavor for the price
Terrible. My family went to eat there because we thought the previous restaurant was still there but it wasn’t so we have it a shot since it said “No.1”. We waited literally an hour for our food which we didn’t get it until we asked them. Also poor, ok tasting food and lack of chicken in a chicken dish we ordered. We only received 3 out of the 4 we ordered and we didn’t want to wait another decade for the forth dish so dad payed the full cheque and we all went home empty stomached. The previous restaurant was 100x better.
MoreSimply awful. Terrible mains, the quality and presentation was unbelievably poor. At $25 for a main dish that had no rice or sides what so ever the value is terrible too even if it had been edible which it wasnt. The fried rice was acceptable and the dumplings were actually very good .... not enough to save the review. I paid $96 for a bowl of fried rice and some pork dumplings the rest was just too oily and soggy to eat. No.1 ? I dont think so.
MoreAuthentic Chinese food, and good service. Reminded me of when I lived in China
Great food and service. Pretty quiet on the night we went but no complaints at all. Larger dishes are perfect for sharing and brought to the table as they are ready. So stoked to have a decent Chinese meal option in a small town. Will 100% be back.
MoreWe found option to have dinner along the way from mata mata to napier. and this is Chinese food restaurant
More28th July 2018. Never go there again. Was very excited to start with but got put off when a laminated menu with pictures of the dishes was handed to me. Everything was deep fried and I should have walked away after reading the menu but thought it would be impolite. Ordered sautéed lamb which was dripping oil. The fried rice was sticky but more palatable. Got pork and cabbage dumplings which had a terrible smell so left the platter as is. Hardly ate anything and walked away paying 85$.
MoreWe tried No.1 China for dinner. The food was a bit pricey but the serving size was big and yummy. Service was fast and friendly. Have given a lower rating due to the odd ambiance. Such a big space but set up mainly for large groups made it feel really empty. Plastic covers on table tops smacked of sitting at the kids table. Very little to choose from at the bar. At the time we went no Yum Cha was on the menu although I saw a recent ad that its now being offered. Would love the management and staff to make better use of the space especially tables around the cosy fireplace when only a few customers are dining.
MoreNice restaurant with variety of options for menu. Luckily have a fine dinning Chinese cuisine in Taupo, the environment is fabulous and really styled like China. Had a lovely night with my friends and must come back! Friendly staffs
MoreVery nice place. They service big dish and the staff are friendly. The environment is amazing.
MoreOur family is so glad to hear of a new Chinese restaurant in town. We went to have a dinner there and had an awesome time! The restaurant has a nice ambience with very friendly staff. We were seated at one of the lovely bench tables with a beautiful view of the lake. The dishes were served in good time and were nice and warm. We love the fact that the food tasted very authentic and traditional, not tweaked to suit the western tastebuds like most other Asian restaurants in New Zealand. The fried rice is one of the best we have tasted in town.My children had a good time too as there was a kids playing area. They liked the feel of the restaurant and enjoyed the food thoroughly.
