Niveen's Restaurant in McKinleyville

We were a walkin party of 5, served quickly and well. Quite large portions all around at reasonable prices and everyone seemed to really enjoy their meal. We would certainly go back again when we are in the area again.

Pretty basic restaurant. The food I had was pretty bland needed salt. The waitress was very friendly and nice.

Chicken Ceasars salad is amazing. Its big and filling . I can feed my little kids that are 2 and 3, they both get kids meals and my wife and I both get the Salads for just under 50$ before tip.

Ordered Fri Nite SPecial- Prime Rib with baked potato and it was EXCELLENT!!! Seriously, melt-in-your-mouth tender! I havent enjoyed a meal that much in a very long time! Quiet surroundings, pleasant staff, very accommodating and hometown goodness through out. Definitely going back for more soon!

Great Prime Rib dinner served on Friday starting at 4pm. Prime Rib baked potato soup or salad and cheesey bread.eat in or call for takeout...

Ive tried some new items on the menu, mostly just the Denver omelette but I like the other breakfast options too. Usually good every time

The waiters are really nice and fast with service. They even give second and third cups of coffee! (Not all restaurants are very good about this!Their food is a bit expensive, but it is about the same problem everywhere. I had a French Dip sandwich. It could have been better, the beef was a little more thickly sliced and was not easily bit through. It was very tasty! They had a side of fruit, but they didnt have it cut up, it was only largely cut up, melon was served with the skin on and was very hard. Apple was quartered as was the orange.... sorry but a fruit cup would be better!!! When paying premium prices it would be nice not to do the extra work for meal.

Delicious, reasonably priced food. Preslee was a wonderful waitress, great with our kids. Highly recommend.

TLDR- Food was trash and overpriced, no offense (yall owe me $15)I tried Niveens yesterday, was very unimpressed with the low quality of the food compared to the WILD high price. CONS: For just $16 you can have The Humboldt Sampler: gas station nachos, two chicken wings, two mozzarella sticks, and four onion rings. $16.20 gets you a dried up, "classic" middle school cafeteria burger with burnt bacon and burnt fries (at least they didnt use iceberg lettuce). No, the food was not good, and it gave me heartburn (Im only 29so I threw the rest of it in the garbage, but Brownie points for trying ❤️ Sometimes we do things because we love them, not because were good at it. Thats ok, just not when you charge $16.20 for a $6 burger (lets be honest here). You should probably refund me $15 for the unreceived surplus value that you didnt deliver with this order. PROS: Food was ready fast, they didnt use iceberg lettuce.

Went on New Years just as a way to get out of the kitchen and it was awesome! Wife got a Sundae and it was HUGE be warned.

Thanks , my friend and I went in for dinner and had a very nice experience. Even though the cooks had a tip jar out. I felt I had to tip them separately so my server could get the tip. I wanted to leave her in full for the holidays. I do not feel the cooks should be tipped out of the servers pocket nor tips for the night. I feel the server is the reason why I am tipping. AND THE FOOD IS WHY I COMPLEMENT.. So there for me to tip the kitchen separately and had to specify that the tip I was leaving is for my server in full. I do hope she received her Christmas tip in full. This is what i requested the money i was giving went to. Not for the company to direct her with what to do with her hard earned money.Thank you.

Big menu ,large portions,fresh salads and friendly people. I had the fried 🐔🐔🐔 chicken dinner and it was very good.

Very nice diner in this town. Good size American diner food, very big menu with many options. The service is very good even on busy Christmas Day.

Travelled here from out of town. We can eat and enjoy most foods, but the food we ate here was subpar. Dry burgers with no flavor. No sauce included. Unsatisfying fries. French toast was very basic. Worst of all the prices were that of a 5 star restaurant. Would never recommend this restaurant.

Service was super slow for food. Turns out door dash orders come first lol...place was empty so I asked why did it take over 30 minutes to get a salad n a sandwich for two people...Door Dash orders!!! So order out!!!Food is good...

Stopped here due to nothing else really open. Staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating for a large group. Food was excellent, and would definitely recommend this place if youre in the area.

The food at Niven’ was very good. We had a good mix of hamburgers, seafood, salads, breakfasts, wings, nachos and more with a group of 10 people. They handled us very well and we all got exactly what we ordered. There wasn’t much of a wait either. The staff were very kind and helpful. If I find myself in this area again I would definitely come here.

This was our first time eating at Niveens as we were driving through. The food, service and atmosphere was delightful. We will definitely be eating here again on our next trip.

Have been here a few times over the years, always good food and family atmosphere. Have never had a bad dish here. Nice little old style dinner with good servings and decent prices.

Im sure Niveens has great food, but what I received for a breakfast wrap was inedible. I try to be grateful for all food, but when I spend thirty dollars and it has no taste, I have to write a review. Unsure why some restaurants dont season their food. After eating here this morning, Ive decided to cook for myself more. Its a shame to pay money for food this bad when I can make better myself. I wouldnt feel proud selling this to a customer if this my food.

Amazing food. In the covid time while being in a small town we were looking for some good options for outdoor dining and came across this restaurant. We are glad we did as the food quality was super awesome and the portion sizes wer generous.

NIVEENS IS OPEN FOR DINE IN 7am-9pm7 DAYS A WEEK!!! I highly recommend the French Dip Sandwich, the Eggs Benedict, Ravioli’s with Alfredo sauce, THE COWBOY BURGER, and SO MUCH MORE! Everything is very good! For dessert, get the LAVA CAKE!!! Yummm!!!

This local diner has a big selection on their menu. I loved my food (Lemon and Herb chicken and shrimp scampi). It was my two favorites chicken and shrimp. My wife was not as impressed with the food. The server was helpful in guiding me to the food I would enjoy.

First time ordering from this restaurant & I used Door Dash. I ordered a shrimp & avocado salad without tomatoes but got a salad with lunch meat & cheese with tomatoes. When ordering there wasnt an option for salad dressing so it didnt come with any dressing. I also didnt get any utensils or napkins so I guess salad is now finger food. I picked off the tomatoes, added my own dressing & ate the salad which was okay but not what I wanted. I ordered iced tea which tasted good but I didnt get a straw. Overall, Im very disappointed & frustrated so I wont be ordering from this place again.

I love Niveens! The food is excellent, and the Staff are the best! There is always sufficient staffing to get the food out in a timely manner, and handle the payment at the end of the meal without waiting forever in line. The desserts are fabulous. And again, the food quality is excellent!

Food is absolutely wonderful, but the seating is awful. The bar seats wobble. The booths are so worn that I sank a good 5 inches when I sat down. Im not a heavy person. There is only ONE table and chair set. It is a 2 top.As much as we like to eat here. I dont think dining in will be an option again. Im so uncomfortable by the time the food gets here that I dont WANT to eat.

Went in for a quick dinner before a movie. Even though I was there well before some locals, I had to wait for them to place their orders and be served. Then, when my food finally came, it was greasy and tasteless. So, I ended up paying nearly $20 for a sandwich and fries I couldn’t eat. To top it off, the waitress did not even address the fact the food was sitting uneaten on the table. Bad show, Niveens. :(

I have given this place several chances over the last couple of years. It is consistently disappointing - from sandwiches to the nachos or taco salad - average or below average food. Todays taco salad was likely the worst I have ever had. The atmosphere and service is fine, but if you want truly tasty food - go elsewhere.

Eggs Benedict was cold, the whole plate was cold. I NEVER have complained at a restaurant or sent an order back but I did this time, asked for whole plate to be heated up but only got my hash browns heated up. This was on St Patricks Day 2019. Over all both things ordered where unsatisfactory and we wont go back. The restaurant was slow that day too surprisingly so we dont know why the food was so cold. Sorry guys, just being honest. 😞 We thought Niveens would be much better than Dennys and it isnt fair we spent hard earned cash and were completely let down.

Nice little cafe. They have been making it better each time we go. Nice quick and friendly service. It is a Denny’s style cafe but better. Usually no waiting and they will take good care of you. Great place for breakfast or if you want something other than Mexican!

The food was good. I had the open faces turkey sandwich. It was a lot of food and pretty tasty. My meal came with a salad, then a plate with an open face sandwich with turkey which was cooked really well and gravy, a big serving of mash potatoes with gravy, broccoli and a tiny side of cranberry sauce. Its classic diner food. The owner waited on us and he was a nice man. I feel like the place could use a little dusting and a fresh coat of paint, however minus that I give it a thumbs up.

Absolutely wonderful service! My coffee cup never got below half full, before it was filled again, and the waitress I had was so nice! I got their country potato Acapulco scramble. I cant speak for their chorizo as I substituted ham instead. It was pretty good, and they have the green hot sauce which is great.

From the looks of the inside the best way to describe this place would be an upscaled version of an old school diner. Most important though is that the food is good. We got the shrimp and steak, work sweet potato fries, garlic bread, and a side Caeser salad. We didnt realize it until I got back that they forgot our salad, but it was a 10 minute drive from our hotel so I said forget it... Also the takeaway utensils sucked... But I would recommend eating here for sure if you got a decent amount of cash on you as it is on the bit of expensive side.

We had a steak sandwich with potato salad and hot beef sandwich. Very good,plate present on was very nicely done. Food was great as we remembered it there. Served hot and large portions. We had delightful waitress who took good care of us with a great smile,attitude . Great place and we will return again when down there.

Good food, friendly staff. Much better than Dennys and better prices. The eggs benedict was great, and the coffee was hot. I came in with a party of nine, but our waitress was right on top of everything, checked on us often, and always had a smile. It was my first time at Niveens, but it wont be our last. Thanks!

the eggs were really not good in either of our dishes. my wife enjoyed the cinnamon french toast and my country skillet was okay. service was good. the coffee was alright.

Good improvements after new ownership in 2016. This is a great local hangout in the morning for the locals. The food is very good and attention to detail is high (very clean, very tidy, etc.). The staff is very friendly and right on top of things. I think the ONLY gripe I would have about Niveens is that they dont seem to have any alternative to "pork" bacon, sausage, etc. My extended family, like many, is comprised with people who dont eat meat; people who have issues with gluten; people who only eat certain types of meat; etc. Niveens has only one type of "country gravy" and that is with pork sausage already cooked into it. Im sure for those who love pork its absolutely tasty, but for those who cant (or dont want toeat pork there is no alternative. No vegetarian gravy, for example. And, how about the sausage and/or bacon? If you dont eat pork, there is no alternative. No chicken sausage; no turkey bacon; etc. We still love coming to Niveens for other items, but sadly had to switch our Sunday morning family get-together to Dennys, since they have non-pork and non-meat options for several of their gravy/bacon/sausage meals. Im hopeful that one day Niveens will offer alternatives, since everyone agrees Niveens is far superior to Dennys.

Worst restaurant I have ever been to. If i could give it zero stars I would. My family and I decided to try it out for a Sunday brunch. We all ordered sandwiches and fruit. The fruit was mealy and uneatable. None of the sandwiches had any flavor, the chicken was overcooked to the point of rubber, and the canned mushrooms used on the garlic and chicken were terrible.At least the servers were nice.

I absolutely loved the rueben sandwich I ordered! It came out fairly fast and nice and hot, complete with the different cheese. My husbands burger was done wrong, with the changes ignored, but was still tasty for what it was. The place was clean and pleasant, and the service was good, very pleasant. I did notice the sign in front saying new menu, so if there were problems before, I would say give it a chance and try again. I am glad I found this place!
