Tai Mo Shan, Hong Kong, Hong Kong
Ng Tung Chai Waterfall - Scenic point in Hong Kong, China
The Ng Tung Chai Trail in the Tai Mo Shan Country Park is one of the most challenging and rewarding waterfall treks in Hong Kong. This is an approximately a 6km circular trail that starts in the Ng Tung Chai village on the northern boundary of the country park that passes by 4 highlight and signposted waterfalls before circling back to the village. The trail passes a monastery before starting a steep climb up the mountain range, through thick and dense forest. The trail that winds through the trees, beside the main stream, at times zig-zagging alongside the side of the mountain. It is a challenging but beautiful trail that feels much more like something youd find in Thailand or Hawaii than here in Hong Kong. The trail is mostly shaded with relatively little time exposed to the sun. There are four waterfalls along the trail. Youll encounter posted signs just as you encounter them. Each includes boulders for you to sit, rest and enjoy. They are all photogenic and very nice. However, we like the first two falls for photo taking. There is a resting bench on a viewing platform at the #3 Main Falls. A fifth falls, called Yuk Nui Falls, is a short 5 minute side trail south of Scatter Falls (#4), it is really nice and potentially worth making a bit of extra time to see if you are enjoying your hike and not too tired at this stage. After seeing the four (or fivewaterfalls, you then begin to wind your way back down the range until your reach the starting point back at the Ng Tung Chai Village. Alternatively, some like to combine this trail with Tai Mo Shan (highest peak in HK). After passing the falls, before the trail circles back north, there is an intersection where you can switch over to a trail making way to Tai Mo Shan.Note: There are no facilities along the trail so you may want to use the public toilet at the village before setting off on your hike. Do bring plenty of drinking water as well and some snacks as well.Note: To make your way to the Ng Tung Chai village where you begin the hike, you can take public bus 64K between Tai Po and Yuen Long and disembark on the main road at the Ng Tung Chai bus stop. Alternatively, if you take a taxi, they will drive into the village and drop you off just near the public toilets and trail starting point.
The location should be Middle Fall of Ng Tung Chai Waterfalls.Middle stop on the trail, need more effort after there. Passed the Scatter Fall on the way to Tai Mo Shan is more challenge.
Refreshing
So pretty
Ng Tung Chai CascadeOn the 23rd June 2022 this group of Waterfalls were visited.A KMB 64K bus took me from Tai Po Market Train Station to here within half an hour.I alighted the bus at the junction of Lam Kam Road and Ng Tung Chai RoadThe beginning of the walk was on paved ground but after about 600M , it became sand and mud trail. Continue for about 2.4 Km using 3 hours , the three (lower stream, Bottom Fall, Middle FallWaterfalls were visited ,the highest for me was the Middle fall. The Main Fall was missed. All the 4 waterfalls were within the elevation of 300 m- to 400 m Region. The walk was strenuous as it was steep, with gravel stones of irregular heights. The strong spectacular cascade was the Middle Fall.It was worth the visit because the waterfalls sights and sound were mesmerizing. It would be better to visit in Autumn. The down Hill walk was fast , only took 50 minutes.Written on June 28th 2022
One of the best waterfall in HK!!!
Absolutely beautiful! A series of 4 beautiful waterfalls in Tai Mo Shan country park. It’s a moderately challenging hike to go from the base of the mountain to see all 4 waterfalls and back. Some parts of it can be very steep and narrow so prepare accordingly. Pack a sandwich with you to enjoy your lunch after the hike near one of the waterfalls. My personal favorite was the middle fall (2nd in the series).
the highest water falls in hong kong it is very enjoyableto hike the water is very cold and clear.
Its wonderful day ! I had an amazing experience the rainbow around me when i set on the waterfall even though its not deep ....and small falls but tallest one the bottom waterfall is great to swam coz its big and quite deep...
A lovely waterfall in Hong Kong with four distinguished falls scattered at different level for hikers to explore. You can challenge the upper fall which requires more effort or just go to the middle fall enjoying the forest feel. The entire route was not so demanding yet better still visiting after heavy rainfall, you would find the stunning views of the amazing nature.
The most beautiful place in Hing Kong. The trail is crowned with four spectacular waterfall. Each and every stage of the trail is surreal, unfathomable, gorgeous. Very safe, huge place yet thrilling. I am sure during rain this place would be more pristine.Go and hike and fell in love with this place forever ❤️
NG Tung Chai Waterfalls are amazing! If the hike features four gorgeous waterfalls - the Bottom Fall, the Middle Fall, the Main Fall And the Scatter Fall. Each waterfall is worth visiting. The hike difficulty is moderate.Suitable almost for everybody :)
astonishing!specially the Bottom Falls, I can sit there for hours and relax🥰
Ng Tung Chai Waterfalls going to taimoshan..wholeday hiking.. bring enough water and a good camera for best results 😊
Beautiful waterfalls and forest, quite a steep hike, though the views more than make up for this.
This is a beautiful waterfall. The walk up has many stairs and breathtaking scenery. There are no bins so be sure to take your rubbish back with you.
Amazing four waterfalls
A hidden gem with 6 magnificent waterfalls along the way. The path from the village to main fall is easy, then it becomes a bit harder if you want to reach the Scatter Waterfall and 玉女 Waterfall (mainly because it’s rocky and steep). Anti-slippery shoes are advised for this trail.
A great natural retreat found high up on Tai mo Shan. Theres actually 3 waterfalls.. bottom, middle and top. The bottom is fairly simple to get to.. its one for kids. The middle is a bit more difficult and is for older kids and for adults only, really... The top waterfall is for experienced hikers only and is quite difficult to get to. They are all good for a quick dip to cool down in the heat. The top waterfall is the most spectacular and is worth a visit if you are up for the effort.
A gorgeous waterfall within a majestic hill. Came after one-week heavy rain, the flow was vigorous and the scene was breathtaking.
The highest waterfalls 🥰
Beautiful waterfalls which have 3 level ,the bottom fall,Middle fall and the main falls..easy to hike and just be careful on going up...the stairs is slippery because of moss. It’s worth it to visit when u are exploring Hong Kong hidden beautiful Nature. This is the tallest falls in HK.
Hot & Heavy current of the waterfalls
Absolutely breathtaking and beautiful. The perfect way to beat the heat. If you want to hike the full loop, be prepared for a lot of natural uneven stone steps, but its well worth the trip!
Beautiful trail full of moss and greens surrounding you with a long waterfall in the valley
Very easy walk to see Hong Kongs tallest waterfall. Also very few people in the morning
Nice view, quite hard to walk.
Definitely worth visiting for a break from the busy city life! Path is suitable for intermediates but it can get challenging towards the later stages. Its easy to navigate as well! The waterfalls themselves are special in a city like Hong Kong but nothing too mesmerising in terms of scale.Only problem was the bus service to get to the start was very slow and takes a lot of time.
This #waterfall is not a difficult #walk. But be prepared for some scrambling since the typhoon September 2019.The #track is clear but it is evident that more repairs are neededTo reach the track take the 25k or 64k. We got off before and walked through the #farmland which shorten the track.Make sure you choose the right path. Once at the village. Head to the back. The correct #path is well formed and signposted.Follow the track to the temple/monetary. From there the track climbs and become rocky.About 20mins from there you will reach the Bottom Fall. A short walk up is the Middle fall. And for the adventitious you climb to the Main fall and on to #Tai Mo Shan.A good hike that takes you to the wild side of Hong Kong.Well worth it if you like the outdoors. Well worth it.
Very nice !
Its making me a bit hopeless in 600m first. Slippery track with lots of sharp stones but its paid off when I found the very beautiful Falls.Never go alone to this place, it really dangerous for beginners hikers
A very relaxing view and refreshing splash of waterfalls. A good hiking place if you want to escape the city of Hong Kong. Just take extra caution while enjoying the scenery, rocks are kinda slippery.
Really cool place. Has four diffrent waterfalls by the same source. Kinda difficult stairs but not impossible.
Gorgeous waterfalls in Hong Kong, worth a visit
Liked the natural walk path getting there. May not be easy for many, but glad to see this hidden scenic spot while getting a good work out. Really need hiking shoes, normal sports or cross training shoes wont do!!
Nice place for weekend. Accessible by 64K, short hike to the waterfalls and rock streams.
Beautiful waterfalls
A wonderful place. Especially on a warm day. Amazing to swim under the waterfall! A bit of a trek but well worth it!
Highest waterfall in Hong Kong, with well maintained access path. But be careful on raining days, the rocks are slippery. And the stairs are steep.
Intermediate to advanced hike, but worth it. Vivid greenery, clear waters, beautiful waterfalls. Waterfalls got a bit crowded later in the day (around 12), even on a Monday. A must-see.
Fantastic waterfall. Here is just the heaven.
Beautiful place
A wonderful hike that is picturesque and with enough of a challenge to boot. Did it in the dry Dec winter so weather is cool, windy and clear, giving scenic views of HK and Shenzhen. Started from Twisk (Tai Mo Shan parkand turn left towards the Fall. Opted for the 4 falls trail, which is pretty challenging. All in all, 6+ hours including meal and photo breaks. Must pack a decent meal (hearty sandwiches), energy bar and enough water. (minimum 1.5l)
This is a great hike and the waterfalls are really beautiful. You can jump in and swim if youd like.
Good demanding hike with 4 satisfying waterfalls.
Lovely water falls, 3 different ones to choose from and difficulty for those who are only leisure hikers, there is another route down same place if you dont want to do the same return route, with signage
A hidden gem in Hong Kong and a hiking trail which hikers would love.Should be well equipped for this day trip.Best time to visit is end of October to early November. After visiting all the falls ,one would be full of -ions and the feel good feeling is amazing. Not recommend this hike when the weather is wet or humid as it would be too slippery for many place.
Thos place is amazing and fascinating..but be careful while swimming..some water snakes are diving too..also a monkey is roaming around to steal your food, better not to give them..they will ask for more
Lovely waterfall, quite a steep walk up!
Really good hike and beautiful waterfall
