Description
Privilege
I am a direct descendant of the Leslie Brothers, through my Mother, my Mother brought me here for my Birthday years ago, I would like to know why this is closed temporarily? Please, I would also like to know whom to speak with regarding this beautiful Historical home. Thank you Mrs. Tonianne O’Brien.
MoreNewstead HouseAccording to history, this house was built in 1846 located On the northern bank of the Brisbane River at Breakfast Creek. It is the oldest surviving home in Brisbane. It is now a museum, open to public. They have weddings, concerts, high tea but currently it is temporary close. Visitors can enjoy its beautiful surroundings, it’s a lovely place to have a walk, or a picnic.
MoreBeautiful gardens and great spot for a picnic.
Great place to relax and unwind, house is temporarily closed but still able to enjoy the outdoor areas and Newstead Park. Look forward to coming back when its open even if it maybe haunted 👻
MoreIt’s good place for picnic or dating with ur lovely friends ❤️
What a beautiful place, did not get inside because it was closed but the outside gardens were beautiful. One of the oldest standing residential houses of Brisbane. Even said to have a ghost of a nanny that worked there.
MoreGorgeous place with such a great rich history. The heritage building is stunning and very well kept. The gardens and greenery of the grass areas are amazing.Great place to have a picnic or a relaxing walk along the water.
MoreA lovely park, with interesting features, beautifully maintained and right by the river. We had a picnic lunch by the river, played croquet, and got caught in a sun-shower late afternoon. A beautiful spot to visit overall.
MoreA casual urban oasis, gardens, history, water views...nice afternoon spot
Beautiful place for a near the river.
Wounderful visit lovely gardens great bit of history
Newstead House was the residence of Govenor in past times. It has ben restored to its former glory. The decor is colonial as is the furniture. There is a fantastic view of the river and surroundings. We had very lovely lady as our guide, sh ws very knowledgeable of th house and its history. It is definitely orth a visit. I am sorry but I cannot remembr our guides name. She was an absolutely lovely lady and gave as much time to my family a we reuired to see the house n contents. She even took us to th lower ground floor, which containe the kitchen and pantry. We had a great time being shown round.
MoreIt was a fun visit, although our volunteer guide could have been better trained. Without a free guided tour (limited times offered), the entry fee is quite expensive. Parking was easy and the gardens enjoyable.
MoreGreat heritage museum. The tour is highly recommended. The guide that we have is very knowledgeable about the place. Also recommend to explore the gardens and its surroundings. Take a walk down to the river banks.
MoreBeautiful location on a bend in the river giving expansive views. Great spot for a picnic (or a wedding!with lush grassy areas, shaded areas, easy to get to by bike. Some limited parking nearby. The House is definitely worth visiting. Make sure you join in on a tour with a volunteer guide. There’s some really interesting history with significant visitors along the way. Look out for the ‘Lucinda’ chair - it’s providence is linked to Australia’s Constitution!
MoreBeautiful area and park, have yet to visit the museum but theres bans, food trucks most weekends. Wish they didnt force the food trucks to run on generators though, kinda wrecks what the band is going...
MoreHistoric homestead on Brisbane river. Take the tour its very interesting.
We were passing by on a walk and there was an event for sick children. It was really nice to see so many people and we were really surprised with the number of fantastic cars, Ferrari, Porche, Bentley, Lamborghini, Mercedes, Audi...Good music and food was available.Nice event!!
Morea fabulous venue so close to the Brisbane CBD. Andrew Sinclair - Marriage Brisbane Celebrant
MoreWe got there there early and we were able to walk around the park outside. Absolutely beautiful. Susan gave us a tour and she is a wonderful guide. Really knows her stuff!!!
MoreThe parks and gardens around newstead house make it a great place to relax. We often go and park and then walk down to the point. You can see both up and down the river. We usually collect a coffee from somewhere in the area at a takeaway and go up and drink it.
MoreThis is a beautifully maintained building. It is a credit to all the people who have put work into the place over numerous years. The gardens are great and are also well looked after.
MoreHigh tea for Mothers Day was lovely at this grand old girl. Outlook, gardens and a touch of history made it the perfect outing for Mum.
MoreGreat place for a picnic
Nice view! It deserve to come, an relax place for everyone
Had a pork belly sandwich. it was nice. The place was clean and friendly staff but it needs some cool atmosphere maybe live music or a dj with some chill out tunes. Would i go back? probably not. It does not have a "wow" factor.
MoreHistoric house on the Brisbane River. You can go inside for a fee or just enjoy walking around the park outside. Parking not great but can be found if youre patient.
MoreThoroughly enjoyed our tour of this historic place.
Nice park by the river and all these cool night light features. It feels a bit quiet though at night so best not to go alone. Otherwise during the day it is very family friendly and a very open park but it fills up pretty fast on a weekend picnic scene
MoreA beautiful place of history for Brisbane. So fantastically maintained and cared for. Great to explore historically or to enjoy a picnic/afternoon walk along the river.
MoreThis place is spooky, great deal of history standing on a corner block mostly surrounded by the beautiful brisbane river . A Museum must see . How life was like for the convicts their harsh treatment. 1846 it was first built and still standing almost 200 hundred years later. Furniture and decor the highlights inside, most awesome garden to sit and relax.
MoreGood small park to come and enjoy the river. There are a few tables but no bbq, excellent spot for picnics. Sunsets are great and normally with a nice breeze from the coast. Pedestrian/bikeway are at both ends connecting the park to Hamilton or to the city and toowong. No Citycycle station available.
MoreLovely place to spend an afternoon or evening. The council puts on free activities from time to time with food carts and its great downtime. Parking may be a bit of an issue during peak times.
MoreA must do for anyone who lives in Brisbane. This is our city’s heritage and history. Set in a fantastic location surrounded by beautiful gardens. A popular spot for weddingsand If Dad happens to get bored he can go across the road to Bunnings
MoreLoved the history of the 200 year old fig tree outside the house, the house is amazing with wonderful view of the Brisbane river. Enjoyed walking around the grounds as much has viewing the house. Well worth a visit if your in Brisbane.
MoreNewstead house has a lot of history about the the house and the grounds. The grounds are immaculate and perfect which I think is very good. Inside the house their is a lot of history to get your head around but how the house is setup it is perfect. The house and grounds are beautiful in every way. But their is only one problem their is not enough parking and even when their is the driveway is too small and it is hard to park and if you park on the street you have to pay😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩. Other than that the grounds are immaculate and they are beautiful. Good job keeping the grounds beautiful you should be proud😊😊
MoreWas first time visiting even I am local. Its definitely worth doing the tour so informative and the staff went above beyond to answer questions! A lovely day for a packed pinic lunch in beautiful kept gardens! A must to see!
MoreLovely old historic building surrounded by equally impressive grounds. Opposite the well known Breakfast Creek Hotel. We decided not to enter the building owing to the surprising entree fee. Is this fee another consequence of continuing governments attempts at cost reductions? Come on Queensland, open your buildings to the public free of charge.
MoreInteresting history and sits on the perfect bend of the river. Hope it remains there forever. Beautiful.
MoreRestored colonial era house which is now a museum offering guided tours. It gives an interesting insight into Brisbane history and settler life, as well as acknowledging the impact of settlement on the indigenous people. Original period furnishing. Located in a park on the banks of the Brisbane river.
MoreBeautiful Historic building overloking the Brisbane River. Plenty of park ground to enjoy a picnic lunch after. Amazing building. Worth a visit.
MoreA very informative place to visit. There are a lot of historical pieces of furniture and also the history of the house has been well documented. The lush gardens on The Brisbane River are also a delight.
MoreNewstead House is a gem for a tour of an iconic historical house. Learn about the history of Brisbane through the people who lived there. Book a public tour on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Great gardens and historic park right on Brisbane River. Worth a picnic or visit just for the views.
MoreAwesome house. Great to visit for an insight into early settlement in Brisbane
Gorgeous gardens with great views and so close to the city yet far enough away for a peaceful experience
MoreNice place to spend a 1 to 1 1/2 hours. Has guided tour and staff helpful.
Very beautiful and peaceful, ideal for a picnic or a bike ride on the weekend.
We had our wedding at Newstead House and we absolutely love this location. So beautiful, rich in history, helpful staff and just generally a nice place to be!
MoreA lovey riverside location for a picnic, a breezy walk or some fitness if youre a local. Occasional events like Food Trucks & Jazz are also a treat. The house itself is probably not worth the trip if you are just sightseeing.
MoreVery nice place for a walk or laying around. Was looking for a BBQ place but found none. Good for picnic. Got a big chess board to play (need the key from the house staff). The features are spread out so can host multiple groups. Some groups might not get shades however.
