True legendary, paid entry, a must go for rugby fans.
A true learning and beautiful experience. Te Manawa has come a long way! Great for children, families and oldies like me!
Very interesting place to visit ,every rugby fan should see It, great 👍
Went there with my students for a school trip. Stephen (the hostwas very knowledgeable, friendly, and accommodating. The students were happy with the whole experience. The museum itself is not too big, probably would spend about an hour or two, but the collection is pretty cool and theres lots of things that many people might now know about NZ rugby. So, thank you!
Free for thee museum but gotta pay for the rugby museum.
Guide had amazing knowledge & was very interesting to listen to.
The childrens area in the middle with goal kicking, scrum machine, tackling bags and sprint test is marvellous. 8yo grandson loved it. The attendant was lovely, showing 8yo things he was interested in. Well worth the small charge.
It was great fun interesting for the adults and interactive fun for the kids.
Loved it! Lots of things I didnt know, so learnt a fair bit. Clean and tidy
Thought the Rugby Museum was great, while I enjoyed the displays the highlight for the children were the tackle bags and activities. Great place to visit.
Helpful team! Very knowledgeable, great displays!
Amazing and well run.Volunteers are so knowledgeable, you sense there love got the game of RugbyEven though it was my second time here its like a new experience all over again.Loved loved loved it
We were charged full entry but not told the interactive part was shutdown down due to covid. The playground was also closed. A sign at entry stating this a good idea to allow for decision to go in or not.. plus, customer service shocking. 2 grumpy ladies at main reception. Not good enough.
Incredible place for children! There are so many interesting, interactive experiences for them. ❤️
Beautiful history..the best museum Ive seen around nz so far..good old palmerston nth..even got a play area for children
I have a feeling this is where we took a look at photo art...wow it was outstanding. Loved it. My thanks to Photographers and all who set it up. Brilliant!!
Today I listened to a talk on the history of the Museum by Stephen Berg. The buildings, the founders, the significance of the objects in the Museum to tell the stories of the game. I was able to handle a replica of the first "All Blacks" team jersey. Currently there is an exhibition on Womens rugby which took months to research. A proud history of NZs national game is right here in Palmerston North
Wonderful visit with out toddler grandson. A great couple of hours - and he could have stayed longer. Very impressed with the play area by the front door. Very well thought out.
Amazing visit. So much information and a very knowledgeable tour guide. A fun and enjoyable visit. Thank you so much
loved it so many child hood memeories
Well worth the visit. Lots of history and the kids enjoyed the try-out area.
I loved it, my son was probably a bit young to appreciate it. He enjoyed the interactive activities would have been nice if they were all working properly.
an incredibly knowledgeable and passionate guide showed our Mid Lifers Group around last week. Its well worth having a guide.Great place to visit if you are in Palmerston North, even if you arent a rugby fan.
Fantastic.. the history of the All Blacks from the very beginning. Photos, trophies, kit..take your time and become totally absorbed and then try your skill at kicking a ball
Rob the host/staff was friendly and amazing....
Great place to visit and worth the time. A must see for any Rugby Fan

Good tour guide, I jumped to 3M lol
The New Zealand Rugby Museum has a very broad and interesting variety of rugby stuff, arranged to show the history of rugby in New Zealand. It was really cool to see existing photographs from the first touring team in 1903!
Fantastic experience for the family. We are big fans of the game and the interactive centre was so fun for the kids. Well worth the visit.
Rugby museum details the history of Rugby, it starts when it was introduced to NZ by Charles John Monro on 1870. He organized a game in Wellington on 12 September 1870, which became a forerunner of inter-provincial rugby, from 1870 it spreads to all parts of New Zealand.
My family and I toured the North Island and went out of our way to see the Rugby Museum. We werent disappointed. Wonderful displays and its great to see that the history is being preserved. Neil was a fantastic host and went out of his way to make sure we knew our way around. If you have a strong interest in rugby, or have seen a game of rugby or you know what rugby is...youll love the Museum.
A comprehensive history of the sport of rugby in New Zealand, with a decade by decade breakdown of significant milestones and developments in the sport, going back to the very beginning. Lots of photos, memorabilia, videos and even a scrummaging machine where you can have a go & see if you’ve got what it takes. Covers Maori & women’s rugby as well as Sevens, along with international & domestic 15-a-side. Friendly volunteers will answer any questions you may have. A great hour or two (depending on how keen you areat no cost. Well recommended.
This place is amazing!! My kids enjoyed learning NZ rugby history and the staff were more than informative. A must see!!!
Its a cute museum, 12.5 local bucks that are worth the visit! A good place to learn about the history of this important chapter of the history of rugby. And you get a pass to visit of the rest of the NZ history museum too.
Excellent museum; interesting exhibition and staff who went above and beyond to allow us in after hours with a school tour. The copper boot, the whistle that is used to begin each world cup and countless other items of rugby memorabilia. Definitely worth a visit.
Fantastic museum to take the kids to. Lots of interactive exhibits
I had a very nice introduction about the history of the museum and it is great to be able to see and to learn more about the beginnings of the sport in NZ!
New Zealand Rugby Museum contains New Zealands biggest and most comprehensive collection of rugby memorabilia and records, including some of the worlds rarest rugby artefacts. The home to the first museum devoted to the oval ball - this is a must see! From the first fern, the oldest All Blacks jersey and the oldest rugby ball to All Black star Dan Carters boots!
It was great to learn the history of Rugby in NZ. It is an interactive display where young people can test their Rugby skills too.
Its a great trip to plan, to see the memorabilia available about rugby establishing itself in NZ and becoming NZs premier sport. It needs more support from the NZ Rugby Union though.
Love Rugby? Like history? Then you have to visit this place. With memorabilia dating back to the earliest times of Rugby in New Zealand (1870to now it is quite an impressive display.
Not an overly large exhibit, and contains some obscure gems of rugby history. An enthusiastic guide can make all the difference in your experience here.
Great museum if you are at all interested in Rugby. It chronicles the beginnings of the game in NZ and has a lot of memorabilia through many years culminating in the more recent matches between the All Blacks and the Lions.
This is a fantastic piece of New Zealand history and heritage. Well worth the trip, they have many beautiful objects on display, a whole history book worth of information to read, and the custodians are friendly and superbly knowledgeable!
A little on the small side, but absolutely packed with information and memorabilia. As I non rugby fan I still found it interesting and the introduction by Rangi was the highlight of my visit.
It was great! It was wicked to look at all of the history from when rugby first began through to now :I am unsure of her name but the lady who was working today (11/02at around 12.50pm was so lovely! she knew heaps about all that was on display and more and was extremely kind in showing me replica jerseys, explaining the markings on one of them and showing me how people got into stadiums etc, she was excellent :It is an awesome place to go check out :)
The museum had tonnes of interesting artifacts and was well presented. It was smaller than I thought it would be, but still kept my husband and I occupied for a couple of hours. There was a try station in the middle of the museum where we had fun trying out kicking the ball, a scrum machine, and a tackle test.
Really enjoyed my visit. Plenty of history and rugby memorabilia to keep the rugby fan happy. I didnt try the interactive bit but saw a kid giving it a go. Looked fun.
