Krymsky Val, 10, Moscow, Russia, 119049, Moscow
Riverside museum displaying a collection of 20th-century Russian art in a modernist building.
Massive sober austere, luminous perfectly adapted to modern and contemporary art.Interior and its garden in very good shape, exterior stars to show the traces of time and harsh climate.Currently there is a great exhibition of Mikhail Vrubel. Stunning by grace and sadness...A must seer
Great collection of mostly 20th century artists
One of the best museums of Moscow, Russia. Do not miss the chance to visit it. There is an amazing unique exhibition of paintings by Ilya E. Repin, great artist. Museums experts did a great job of guiding visitors through Repins life and talent by following his artworks arranged chronologically. Its worth 10 stars!
They are making fool with some painting but if you dont know real or fake painting then its useless to visit there its High security area not good not bad overall time pass under warm heater
Amazing exhibion of Vrubel, Michail
If you like 20th century Russian painters (Kandinsky, Malevich, Chagall, ....), You should not skip this museum.
The modern part of the famous Tretyakov Gallery. Worth seeing

Loved it, to be able to see the Wassily Kandisky and Marc Chagall Exhibition, in 2019! The Art Materials Shop and the rest of the Gallery was superb. ❤️🎨
Cool atmosphere and many wide space halls with different themes and look:really cool special reading room with local notebooks and art books :)
Its hard for one to understand the avant-garde, it is better to hire a guide.Black square is inside!
Great collection of Russian and Soviet art in a very appropriate settings!
Not bad but I recommend to visit old one. This museum is in a park so you can visit there too.
Interesting, lots of modernism and post-modernism exhibitions mixed in with cubism. The permanent collection on the fourth floor is amazing with 19th-20th century Russian art.
First, it was really hard to find the entrance. Then, we were told to leave a bottle of water in the locker. Mind, it was over +30 outside that day and there arent any water-coolers there. But the absolutely worst thing was that they basically ruin art in there. There was an interactive piece which you were supposed to turn on by pressing a button and a thingy would rotate. Everything was connecting and working but as soon as I pressed the button, a warden shouted at me to turn it off and go watch a video of the art piece working. I wonder what the artist would say to that.Anyway, there are great art pieces there which are ruined by the overall attitude of the staff.
I really love this gallery and the Soviet vibe of the building and the permanent collection. Unfortunately every time you come here to enjoy art, you get to interact with the most unfriendly staff. People walking the gallery dont wear masks (yes, we are still in the middle of the pandemicand no one reminds them no take precautions, but you get scolded and yelled at if you get too close to the painting to admire the brush strokes. Very logical and friendly!
Great moments with Inspired Arts
Magnificent permanent exhibition of Russian 20th Century Art, always worth a visit.
A museum accomodates several exhibitions at the same time. Location is near Peter monument.
The New Tretyakov Gallery is a special place. There main focus of the gallery is 20th century and Soviet Art.While deciding to go there, you should take into consideration wahat exhibition you would like to visit. The permanent exhibition is surely worth visiting, to get a better understanding of the art at those times. The Tretyakov Gallery on Krimskiy Val is the best exhibitor of the Russian art of 20th century. The tickets to the permanent exhibition and the temporary ones are different. But when buying a ticket for one temporary most often the other ones are included. While visiting the museum you can always count on good service. The audioguides are mostly free, and they are very detailed and in most usual languages. The personal is friendly and helpful. If you dont want to listen to the guide, there are detailed descriptions and factual stories on the wall of each room. After the excursion you can visit the museums shop and buy some merchandise from the museum or books about art for a good price. There is a café in the hall and a pretty canteen for museums guest to enjoy the visit and continue the walk through the city.! Be careful with opening hours, they may differ on different exhibitions. In time of Corona the reservation is beneficial.
The Exhibition art of the 20th century is excellent. I liked most the Suprematists Part but there are more movements covered which surprised me.P.s. good Coffeeshop too!
Valuable pieces of art mainly pictures but also beautiful sculptures shown inside impresived large rooms. Very well preserved and organized. It has to be visited, without doubts!
Great collection of XX century and contemporary art.
Plenty of works from Russian 20th. Currently there is no Chagall, Kandinsky & Malevich. All most famous ones have been moved due to a remodeling.
Wonderful atmosphere, great art selection
Excellent permanent exposition of Russian 20th century art. Malevich, Kandinsky, Filonov, Shagal, etc.
A great place to experience modern Russian and Soviet art. The gallery is well designed and maintained. Placement of the Black Square is a bit awkward, while the layout of the halls is well thought through. The building itself is a great piece of Soviet Brutalist architecture. A must visit for anyone interested in modern art.
A must visit!! The tickets for adults are for 500 rubbles. This museum has a huge variety of paintings by russian artists from all eras. Time spent there would be around 3 hours
A nice retrospective exhibition of a very Russian painter. Not an innovative style but a true to himself outstanding painter who could easily create both poetic landscapes, religious paintings and theatrical mise en scènes. All the information is both in Russian and English. Many people but enough space to be able to see the paintings and read about the artist. Finally, the gallery accepted taking photos.
A mix of art and Soviet Union, liked this retro gallery and its very wide collection of Soviet artists
Great museum. Wish we had more time to enjoy it. Definitely a full day needed
This museum is amazing! It has a collection of all the greatest painters and artists. I enjoyed every piece I saw! Highly recommended
Great collection. But need more navigation signs.
Recommended, various art gallery! Wednesday is free of admission 😉Im not an art fanatic but was enthusiastic about this gallery. Widespread variety of art right through the 20th century.
A total disappointment, at least at the moment. Many of the halls are closed but they only tell you that halls 1-15 are not open, you only find out after buying a ticket that these rooms house the most interesting and important artworks of the early soviet period, including Malevich, Tatlin, Popova, Goncharova, Chagall, Rodchenko, Exter, and Kandinsky. None of these are on display but they don’t bother telling you that. Instead all you get is a bunch of soviet socialist realism and some very bizarre low standard 80s and 90s and contemporary work, some of which I would actually describe as atrocious (e. g. the one where some artist put 4 canvases with a gap in between but all slightly rotated with a black square painted across the canvases in each of the corners and he actually dared to call it Black Square can you believe it..). I came to the new Tretyakov in hopes of finding the most amazing 20th c Russian art collection of all time given the significance and location of the gallery and left hugely disappointed with a bunch of mediocre work most of which is actually horrid to look at. But hopefully once those mysteriously numbered halls are actually open it should be a fantastic exhibit, just felt very disappointed that no one told us about what exactly isn’t on show and also the cashier lady (as many people in Russiawere extremely rude to us... plus just to point out, they give a student discount but only if you’re a student in Russia. And just the last thing that was hugely disappointing about the exhibition was that they don’t bother putting a single room description in English, and perhaps it also shows bad curation, but the rooms/halls were not curated in any recognisable order. Therefore it would have been helpful to put some text in each room not just in Russian, which is something given the prestige and international acclaim of the gallery I find ignorant and very unwelcoming. I’m giving two stars only because the actual building is pretty cool, a humongous tasteful modernist block from the 80s.
Amazing Museum, where you can easily spend two or three hours. Exhibitions change, we saw paintings from Repin. In front of the museum are also places to chill and have a coffee.Totally worth a visit, if you are in Moscow.
Really liked the abstract expressionism department including the work of Vassily Kandinsky! The building is architecturally not the nicest and the lighting a bit too dark, but its the content that counts.
We were pleasantly surprised to learn of the many outstanding Russian artists of the 20 century! There are many different styles, so it can fit the taste of many.Kirzhov gallery is definitely a highlightSome huge works worth taking the time to sit and enjoy. The audio guide was sure good to give you an idea of the main artist. After browsing the gallery for 2 hours we had a coffee and a stroll on the beautiful Gorky park on a beautiful summer day.
Ilya Repin Exhibition in Moscow is Great Exhibition. You should definitely see it.
Beautiful but only 20th century. Great that you can go on Wednesday for free....of course on some galleries only
I enjoyed the visit to this gallery tremendously. One will need a few hours to really see the permanent exposition. I have little knowledge of the Russian masters but it was a real opener for me. I can recommend it to everyone, renting the audio is advisable.
Excellent and impressive exhibition of Russian the Russian Avant-garde.
A must see for everyone who loves modern art. Great collection of Russian avant-garde!
One of my most favourite museums in Moscow, highly recommend
Great museum with a permanent collection of Russian avangard arts, as well as several exibitions.
If you like modern art (19th-20th centurythis is the place to be! They have great artworks. The only thing that was a little disappointing was the fact that not all the painting of Kandinsky of their collection were on display. Only 6 of the 19 works that they possess. Also none of the Chagall paintings were on display while the folder of the museum clearly states that Chagall is a part of their collection. But this was just a little disappointing as the rest of the collection is very good and big. Dont let this stop you from visiting because you miss great artworks!
This gallery displays only 20th century art, and forward. Thanks to the very large building its located in, the exposition is spaced out very well. Light is thought out as well, as theres no glare no matter at which angle youre viewing (unlike the Pushkin and original Tretyakovka museums).Towards the end there are several halls with what looks like conceptual art that you might want to skip, but thats no hassle.
Let me start by saying the modern art in this museum is singularly terrible. But once you get past that - there is so much incredible Soviet art. I would come to back to Moscow again just to see it. Some of the pieces are truly incredible. They have such power. Must visit.
