Marienplatz 8, 80331 München, Germany, Nuernberg
Ornate neo-Gothic town hall with a soaring tower for city views & famous glockenspiel chiming daily.
Marienplatz the Center of the city. One of the most visited places. Really beautiful old building standing tall. Nice time to visit around Noon.
Fantastic! A must see on the hour. I went to see the show at 5pm and it was great.
I loved visiting the Marienplatz! Definitely a must see destination. Make sure to go in the new town hall and get tickets to go up in the tower. You will see amazing views of the city. Try to see the glockenspiel that plays at 11am,12am! Such a lovely city, definitely will be going back one day.
The neo-gothic town hall built in the early 1900s is the symbol of Munich. an 85 m height Tower with 6 euros entrance to let you see the whole city with panoramic view from above. the many external sculptures and of course the famous glockenspiel are among other things that this hall will let you witness in a journey back time.when you enter you will see also an old restaurant with great Bavarian beer and food.
Marienplatz is the heart of the city, the square was created in 1158. The new town hall is one of the most beautiful buildings in Germany, built in 41 years and completed in 1908 in its main tower houses a large carillon that plays at 11:00 - 12:00 - 21:00 and in summer also at 17:00. In its courtyard there is a restaurant.
Nice looking tower with lots of architecture. The central region of Munich.
Must be one of the most iconic place in Munich.Love this place.
Nice place to visit ..!
Truly magnificent architectural ensemble adorned by a superb neo-gothic facade and a working clock. The interior courtyard displays some very interesting architectural elements ( spiral staircase, Gothic windows, gargoyles as downspouts, etc). A not to miss in Munich.
This Rathaus is absolutely majestic! Wonderful gothic style. Love it
Located on Marienplatz next to the Cathedral, this architecturally beautiful building passes discreetly through its hidden entrance. this is where the city council works
Absolutely love this gothic architecture on the outside. Just great.
Was lucky to be at Neue Rathaus (office of city’s mayorjust in time to see the Glockenspiel working and it was a show apart. According to the tourist information: this happens at 11 am and 12pm. It’s very nice to observe in the heart of Munich. You also can appreciate a nice gothic architecture.
Beautiful town hall, it is built in the neo-Gothic style at the end of the 19th century. At Marienplatz in the center, which is definitely worth seeing ... there is a carillon, which we just happened to see at noon and it was beautiful. There is also a sightseeing tour here and this tour and the whole town hall can be seen beautifully from the opposite lookout tower Alter Peter. At 11:00, 12:00 and 17:00 mechanical figures circle the clock tower
The most beautiful City hall I have ever seen. Maybe there is one in Vienna which similar. Thats all. This is the heart of the town and the main meeting point.
Beautiful building and SO BIG! Its difficult to get the entire building in one photo. I love the gargoyle type statues on the building too. Looks more like a church. Beautiful!
Very well maintained, historical, intricate architecture design.
New Town Hall at Marienplatz of Munich Old TownVisited on 22/9/2019The New Town Hall is the seat of the city’s government and hosts the city council, offices of the mayors and a small portion of the administration. This Gothic architectural design is just magnificent. The main facade is placed toward the very busy plaza, the Marienplatz. We are enchanted by the giant mechanical, working clock known as the Rathaus-Glockenspiel, which spins and moves and tells two different stories, high above in the tower, with life-size wooden figures.
This is the main attraction of Munich. When you come outside and see such a beautiful place. It was amazing. This place is always crowdy. There are several restaurants around and in front of this.
Be there or be square. Visiting Munich without seeing the New Town Hall is a no go. A lot of people only take pics from the outside but the inner courtyard is worth to step in. It is free of charge - so take a moment and have a look. Enjoy!
The first section of the building in the Eastern part of the Marienplatz, on the corner of Dienerstrasse, was the results of an idea competition won by Georg Hauberrisser and carried out between 1867 and 1874. When it became clear that this new building would not be able to accommodate the entire administration, the city began purchasing all the properties on the Dienerstrasse, Landschaftstrasse and Weinstrasse adjacent to the Town Hall started in 1887. From 1889 to 1892, the section on the corner of Dienerstrasse and Landschaftstrasse was constructed. In 1897, the Magistrate and municipal council decided to extend the buildings on the Marianplatz as well as the Weinstrasse and Landschaftstrasse to create a four-sided complex. For this, the entire area between the Marienplatz and Landschaftstrasse was used and on the other side, between Weinstrasse and Dienerstrasse. In 1898, the work for the extension began with the tower (Rathausturm), also under architect Georg von Hauberrisser. In December 1905, the shell of the third building section was finished with the setting of the keystone on the Rathausturm. For the architectural design of the Munich Rathausturm, Hauberrisser was clearly inspired by the Brussels Rathausturm. The 96-meter late-Gothic Belfry was built by Jan van Ruysbroeck in the years 1449 to 1455.
This is such a beautiful building that is located in the Marienplatz. There is so much to see on the building that it is hard to focus on one single thing. The Glockenspiel is the clocktower of this building. There are a few shops around the base of the hall including an information center. The entrance is just under the Glockenspiel and you are able to head up the Glockenspiel for a small fee. It was quite a nice place with what looks like a large history behind it.
Incredibly impressive 19th building which is also the location of the main Tourist Information Centre and from where which you can also join one f the many free walking tours (I say free just in case nobody has done one before - but you arent charged in advance, but are meant to pay what you can at the end based on budget and/or satisfaction with the guide.Weird how all these Gothic buildings sprang up across Europe during a similar time period, took a long time to construct and none of them used the same architects, masons etc.The reason it reminded me of Pragues Astronomical Clock, is the Rathaus Glockenspiel, which is a similar revolving set of figurines enacting something on the stroke of the hour - in this case as 11.00, 12.00 and 17.00. Having seen the 11.00, we joined a Spanish walking tour which began in front of the Town Hall at 11.30, only to wait 20 mins in the freezing cold to see it again, so we bailed...There is also the possibility to go up to the top in a lift which is meant to offer spectacular views of Munich but, being Christmas and the crowds we didnt want to wait around in a queue in the cold to do so, but I have heard it is very worthwhile if you have the weather/patience to get in said lift.
Beautiful. To access the tower, you need to buy the tickets from the Information Center which is located outside the tower. Then go to the elevator which is on your left side at the entrance of the tower. Press no 4, from there the operator will validate the ticket and board you on the elevator for 9th floor.
Center of Munich attraction, few majestic old churches can see there. People gathering and shopping place. In December we can see lot Christmas shops, eatery and drinks ( Hot wine )
One of the most beautiful buildings in Munich and probably anywhere in this city for that matter. Really hard to believe for a moment that it has offices inside! The exterior is Roman gothic and looks stunning during all times of the day throughout the year. It is decorated seasonally as well according to the occuring festivals.
The gem of architecture.. one of the most decorative building.. loved the place and the way it is made and maintained.. every inch of the building is worth spending time here.. commendable work done by the artists and architect to create a marvel itself..
Incredibly magnificent building. This town hall, in my opinion, is the most beautiful building of this type that could be found in Germany (at least from my point of view of the five cities that I visited). I saw different town halls, both new and old, and in good condition, and in a more "tired", historical... but I have never seen such a monumental, large town hall at the same time elegant and rigid in architecture. The Town Hall is a neo-Gothic building in which there are 400 rooms with a total area of more than 9 thousand sq. m., and was built in 1867-1908. On the central tower of the town hall, there are chimes that play a 15-minute performance. Every day at 11 oclock 43 bells begin to beat, windows open, and 32 figures begin to play scenes from city life. In summer, the performance is at 12 and 17 hours too.In the courtyard and on one side of the town hall there are entrances to a very beautiful restaurant, which is located under the town hall and which serves delicious food.
It’s a beautiful building from the outside. It’s a town hall (Rathaus). It looks really elegant and wonderful.
Amazing building that houses the town hall of Munich. You can have panoramic views of the city if you visit the top of the tower, the entrance fee is 4 euro. A really impressive and historic building of this beautiful city.
The most beautiful historical building in the city. Magnificent and so huge. At 5 the bells play amazing music with the dancing statues.
Amazing point of view from the terrace of the tower where you can get by an elevator. The price is 4 euro each person. If you visit Munich you have to see the beautiful panorama by the town hall tower. 👍🏻
Magnificent and ancient architecture monument. The tower is about 85 meters, equipped with an elevator and is open for tourists
When I first set eyes on this building, I cried. It is one of the finest works of architecture I have ever seen. Simply breathtaking and I can hardly believe something so beautiful actually exists. Dont miss it.
Old city hall building but still in active use - walk into the courtyard and theres a staff canteen plus a restaurant open to public.
Neus Rathaus (New Town Hallis a large Neo-Gothic building that dominates Marienplatz in the Old Town. Constructed during the second half of the 19th-century, this is one of the most beautiful buildings in Munich. The building stretches the length of Marienplatz and features a detailed facade richly decorated with Gothic features and statues of the Wittlesbach dynasty. It includes an impressive 85 metre tall clocktower where you find the famous Glockenspiel, a ornamental chiming clock which performs every 11am, 12pm and 5pm (during warmer months). This is so much fun to see, hear and experience and makes a rewarding addition to the already impressive building.I really enjoyed spending time admiring the exterior architecture of Neues Rathaus. It is a impressive Neo-Gothic building that is well remembered from our recent trip to Munich. As indicated above, it is worth timing visits to Neues Rathaus so that you can enjoy the Glockenspiel performances while you are there. Then spend the rest of your time seeing the monuments, fountains and other attractive buildings at Marienplatz.
In and around this beautiful place. Just fantastic view heading to this place. It is beautiful to walk around Munich.
This amazing town hall building is located just near the exit of Marienplatz U-bahn station. Very convenient.I had to evade a road-cleaning vehicle operated by a grumpy looking German man while taking photos here. Protip: the whole Munich inner city at Sunday mornings are VERY QUIET. Come here during that time to experience an atmosphere unlike any other. That, if you can deal with the road cleaner.
One of the remarkable city hall with the number of beautiful steeple. Looks viatage gothic building in marien square. The New Town Hall (German: Neues Rathausis a town hall at the northern part of Marienplatz in Munich, Bavaria, Germany. It hosts the city government including the city council, offices of the mayors and part of the administration. In 1874 the municipality had left the Old Town Hall for its new domicile.
Impressive building with a monumental façade. The clock figurines work 3 times a day most of the year, mainly at 11h00 and 12h00.
It’s very spectacular when (exactly at 17h or noonfigures at the building start moving along with nice music. Lots of people watch it every day. You should go and check the view on the top too.
The town hall is a marvellous building. Its main tower is equipped with a nice carillon which turns while producing music in some moments of the day. Visiting the internal yard and the inside of the building is recommended.
The beautiful and vibrant square named after the Virgin Mary, located in the Altstadt district, is also considered the heart of Munich. This is because most of the interesting sights of the city are concentrated in the immediate vicinity of the place. On the north side of it, for example, youll find the towns New Town Hall (Neues Rathaus), an imposing 19th century Gothic building. The mechanical clock (Carillon), which is at the top of the tower, performs the contest (and danceof miniature dolls at certain times of the day: 11am, 12am and 5pm. At that moment, all the attentions and cameras in the square turn to the operation of the object, say, a little overrated.A good tip is to climb the New Town Hall tower and revel in the beautiful view of the city, especially on a sunny day. Also visit the Old Town Hall (Altes Rathaus), which is on the right-hand side. The site was destroyed by fire in 1460, rebuilt in the Gothic style between 1470 and 1480, and completely destroyed again during World War II.
We can walk inside to see the internal architecture for free. At the level 4, ticket of EUR3 per adult to take the lift up to the top and absolutely worth it. Amazing scenery at the top, just a bit windy and freezing.
Beautiful big building - take the elevator up to the tower (studens 1euro!and enjoy an amazing view
Breathtaking! Spectacular! Once I saw it I became speechless for like a min or so! Then I mistakenly entered the actual Rathaus! I lifted to the top level searching for viewpoint😂 Than I understood that its not supposed for tourists because there were only personnel!Ill never forget this little adventure of mine)
A must if in Munich. Beautiful inside building inside and out. In the winter, enjoy a gluwein at a bar across the Plaza while enjoying the view
Stunning building externally (we didnt go in). Be aware, if you came for the Glockenspiel, it only performs in the morning in winter (1700/5pm performance is only in summer). The Christmas Market is now finished for the year.
The new town hall. Built to be more imposing and gothic than the previous. An iconic and must see building in Munich. Particularly during the Christmas markets
Go to the tower so u can see magnificent view from above. Only €2.5 for entry ticket.
