New Tokugawa - Japanese restaurant in Johor Bahru, Malaysia
Authentic old school Japanese restaurant.Reasonable pricing.Every items are ok, except for sushi. It rice seem lack of vingear or something else. But dun worry. Sushi is fresh
Tasty and affordable Japanese food.Highly recommended. Cawanmushi with a scallop at only RM5,no other place can offer this price.
Hidden gem. Thumbs up ✌🏻
Went on Thursday, 28 July 2022 during lunch time, only for takeaway, no dine in. Disappointed its not indicated in the website. Wasted a trip there.
Food portions are very generous & super value for money! Sashimi ultimately fresh. Super big and thick pieces. Value for money! Sushi rolls are soft and surprisingly tasty. Crispy. No need dip soy sauce at all. Unagi is freshly soft and completely no fishy taste, sauce is delicious. Bento set worth to order - comes with miso soup really taste damn good. Not sure how authentic it is, but definitely the quality taste and freshness standard here are amazing to a Japanese standard, despite the looks (lack of lifeof this restaurant and menu portray at first sight.Came here because of the good reviews while on a holiday trip at this area and on 2nd thought, judging by how normal the restaurant looks, menu looks dull n normal, only a few people dining during peak lunch hour on weekend, only 1 waitress serving (doesn’t speak & don’t understand english from us), food prepared by only 1 old chef, waiting time for food to be served is long, but after trying out all these food, not a single food disappoint us and the wait is all worth it. Really impressive. Hidden gem to us. My honest review to help this business.
The served food is value for money. Good & calm environment for having dinner.
Food taste, portion n price reasonable. Their set lunch v value for money. Handrolls here v gd.
This is one of my favourite Japanese Restaurant in jb ,salmon belly is fresh n Value for money.Definitely will come back again to try other foods
They are pretty short staffed hence the long waiting time but portion was rather huge and taste wise not bad. So glad they had bento set meal for Sunday lunch as well which was really affordable. Add on hand roll or chawanmushi for RM 5
fresh, delicious and cheap price. Must come again.
very authentic Japanese food, bravo 👏👏👍
Very nice katsudon and sushi platter!
Salmon Sushi are very generous for its portion.Lunch set are affordable and delicious.
Delicious at reasonable price, friendly staffs and chef
Food generally ok. But found cockroach in wasabi.
This is one big bowl of sashimi. Worth it.Tried the soup and as mentioned during order, it was full until overflowed.
New Tokugawa is my favourite Japanese Restaurant in JB. Whenever I feel like having Japanese food while I am there, I will inevitably ended in New Tokugawa and the main attraction being the Salmon 🍣 Sashimi as the fish here is always very fresh and the cut thick! 😇
Best Japanese food in town
Excellent food and service. A wholesome experience guaranteed!
Been coming here for a few times and it’s always been a great experience for me and my family. The quality of the food has been very consistent- and it’s been very fresh and tasty each time. Appreciate the generous serving as well. Definitely a hole in the wall- highly recommended to give it a try! 👍🏻
Food is really good here, one of the best Japanese food I’ve had, good service provided, nice environment
Great portion, food is fresh and delicious, staffs are really friendly too.. paid ard rm100 for the meal for two, but leave with take aways and a very very full stomach lol...Definitely recommended
Value for money meal here. Food presentations are nice . Foods are tasty and really big portions. Even the set lunch is fairly priced , large & delicious. Very worthwhile to have Japanese treats here. Very recommended 👍
Great food! We had oyako don, sesame seeds unagi reverse roll, agedashi tofu and chawan mushi. Not much seasonings are used in the food. Can taste the simple natural flavour of the food. Feels homely and comfortable. Will come again next time to try the sashimi. Although we have read about the big portions online, were still very surprised at the actual portions!
Amazing place with generous portion of sashimi!
I have to say that this place is really underrated. The food were fairly delicious (kinda gives off a homely vibe& what came as the best surprise was the sushi platters! Like the previous comments, I’ve never seen such HUGE sushi in my life & that was totally value for money!! Salmon was rly fresh and I enjoyed my meal here.I do agree though, that this place lacks life at first glance & the menu doesn’t look enticing at all (saw many people who had the intention to come in but left after seeing the menu 😭but trust me that you’ll get a pleasant surprise from the food! I think it’s quite a gem? I’ll totally come back for the sushi!
Tired outlook and ambience but with quality food. Stick to local ingredients.
A plain-looking store from the outside but the interior is very clean and air-conditioned. Taste that is comparable or better than most of the Japanese restaurants in the area, not to mention very consistent. The price is affordable but the incredibly reasonable portions make it a steal.*Only complain I have is the terribly ugly menus. I skipped this restaurant in the past due to the terribly photographed menu. But I promise you the menus do not do justice to how they actually look or taste.
Best sushi in town with very reasonable price!
Nice food, nice staff, reasonable price. Worth to try. Highly recommend
One of the best sushi places in town. Not pricey, large portions and super delicious. Will highly recommend !
Delicious food with nice ambience. Thick and fresh sashimi slices! Love their tamago
Salmon & tuna nigiri sushi was very fresh and slice of sashimi served was worth every single cent of our money! Overall great experience 👏🏻
Food is great. No pork no lard. Good customer service.
Food is excellent especially the maki range.
It looks like a good restaurant in the past. Although the menu spread is reasonable and pricing is fair, the place really needs sprucing up. It lacks "life"; the setting appears as it was when it first opened and the tattered menu booklets do not help the image.
Love the food and environment, sure will visit again 💕
Just had lunch there. Excellent food and big portion. Bathroom also clean and customer service is great. Must visit!! Highly recommended
Decent service, enviroment and pricing. Nothing special worth mentioning. Food needs to be more flavorful.
This is definitely a good place to have Japanese food. I don’t know why nobody knows about this yet and hope you can come here and blow your mind away.
OMG THIS PLACE IS FANTASTIC. Even though I’m Japanese I’ve never seen this huge sushi in my life. Rice isn’t big but only sashimi on rice is huge (which means you won’t be full because of rice). I can’t say it’s truely authentic sushi cus some are arranged, however, I highly recommend this place for everyone who visit to JB!!!! Also price is “too” reasonable and ppl are very nice and friendly!!! Please go there when you go to JB!!!
The BEST Japanese food EVER. My Japanese friend is also completely amazed by their sushi. Once you put their sushi in your mouth, youll have to close your eyes for a while to enjoy the moment fully. It literally melts on your tongue. Please try. Too good.
Food tasted like Chinese food even though its a Japanese restaurant.
Nice big cut of Salmon sashimi. Best in town!
Very good service and delicious all round food.
Portions are generous although food could do with less greasy. However the sushi is wonderful and service is great.
Best sashimi around. My staple is their salmon teriaki set (high in omega 3 which is good for your brain). Other dishes I would highly recommend are the tempura cha/zaru soba and their special yakitori don. Last but not least, you must try something which is quite hidden in their menu (Im letting you guys in on my secret orderHotate soyu ramen. Theres a huge scallop and the soup is heavenly. Free green tea too. What more can you ask for?
Always go for the cooked dishes when in doubt. Overall experience was not too bad. Took awhile for the food to be served to us even though there were only 4 diners (inc 2 of us).Good to ask what are fresh for the day to avoid unpleasantness for our dining experience.
The sashimi is a must try!!
The spicy tuna temaki is super delicious. The sushi and sashimi is fresh.
