New Bombay - Indian restaurant in Rovaniemi, Finland
Worst experience ever. The customer service was one of the worst I have faced in my life with very terrible food. Tasteless and expensive food with terrible customer service, would rate 0/5.
Good food and welcoming service.
Indian food is rare in Rovaniemi. Our group (Americans and Indiansonly found two restaurants, and this is the better one of the two. We went for a late lunch/early dinner, and the buffet was closed. The food we ordered was good: some pakora, lots of chapatis, aloo gobi, chai, and others. The vibe in the restaurant was nice although the wait staff were not the most attentive. Our bill for three people was 80€.
Food is good but it is full of oil. You can literally see loads of oil floating on top and that’s not a good sign. Ambience is nice and cozy.
Great indian food. Loved it or highly recommended
Good food at reasonable prices, Lovely people, lots of choice, very family friendly.
Really, really good curry! Authentic cuisine, very tasty and generous portions
Delicious food, quick service, large portions. Three course menu for a fair price.
Can not recall when I had such delicious indian food, maybe never? Totally recommend this place, during lunchtime all you can eat for 9,50€ and it is still delicious!
So good food! We are really happy that we found that place. You should definitely come here, the price is really good
The food is so good. Cost is very very cheap. So if youre looking for a decent budget but tasty lunch, this place is good.
The buffet is nice. Costs 11 euros. A lot of food and drinks. Food isnt really good, but we still enjoyed it. Unfortunately, and I dont understand why, the pakora is made with eggs and milk so its not vegan. The rice was cold.
Horrible taste.. cant imagine the chef doesnt know how to cook chicken tikka masala.. the most famous and easy dish. The Naan were half cooked.
Great food. Loved it. Maybe not as spicy as presented. Yet, worth it. They might need to rethink their music playlist.
The food was cold and not tasty and when we asked the chef to warm the plate up, he was so unpleasant.Dont recommend at all.
I never reviewed normally but after my worst experience with curry masala i must think to give feedback, my first advice to everyone not to waste your money on this restaurant, and if you go please dont take what they advice you to try, i went Rovaniemi with my husband and I insist my husband to have food from this restaurant, we went and ordered chicken qorma and mutton biryani, the girl on reception said chicken Tikka masala is really good you will like that, i said ok we took take away parcel, at restaurant we saw on one table plates and food inside dark orange colour and almost half of the food was left from someones, we spent around 45€ but my husband was not sure about the food we bought burgers from another restaurant and came back to our place, really food was undescribable worst in taste, chicken Tikka masala was really dont how they prepared it was sweet and like we were eating coconut curry, we tried but couldnt eat, then mutton biryani i was praying in my heart should be fine but really it was worst than so called Tikka masala , too much spicy rice were like some gravy, they even dont know how biryani rice look like not sticky rice like their biryani do , and I guess they are making only one gravy what they serve with the long menu list, because the table with half of left food we saw had the same orange gravy what reception girl adviced us so called chicken Tikka masala,Thanks God my husband bought burgers we ate burger and throw all the food 😞we tried but food was spicy sweet not taste like food, my whole journey from Helsinki to Rovaniemi was the best except my visit to this curry masala restaurant. I wish I could not give even a one Star.
I don’t know why this restaurant is even open, it should be closed for good. Horrible veg and non veg food . Don’t eat Rajma - you’ll end up puking in the first bite. Couldn’t risk on the non veg hence tried veg and same results. This is no where closer to the Indian or Nepalese Food. I guess this was no way closer to any type of food, just oil. I ended up eating all naan with pickle. Had no other option.
It is not a Nepalese restaurant at all. We went expecting to find some Nepalese food but they only do Indian food. The buffet is edible but nothing to be excited about. When we took a new plate to get more food we were told off and ordered us to use the same plate. This completely took us by a surprise. We asked for a spoon as there werent any and we got another dose of telling off. Service needs to be improved if they are to continue their business.
WC is terrible condition and buffet was almost empty from dishes. Not very hygienic experience either. Would not recommend right now
The food was so bad. I lived in India for years and I had never seen this kind of food there. We just couldn’t eat it. It was nothing like we expected. My husband got food poisoning.
I would rename this place as "oily" masala. Spicy food doesnt mean it has to bath in oil. I dont recommend this place at all
It was good... Very good actually. I had the buffet but I wish food was always so soft and tasty even in expensive restaurants!
Non friendly service. Not so tasty food, not really according Indian or Nepali cuisine.Careful you will be cheated (they charge open prices for kids at lunch buffet, €8 per child no matter if child is only 2 years). Dark non cosy place with flies in the restaurant. I doubt their hygiene.
Takeaway/delivery review. A mixed bag, but generally fine. Palak paneer was a good sauce but could have done with a bit more paneer. Malai kofta good but sauce much too sweet for my taste. Cheese pakoras were great! Rice was, sadly, overcooked and mushy. (After reading other reviews here, I cant speak for service, but I actually think this was okay for Lapland, its not what gourmands may be expecting, but for an Indian food lover like myself, this scratched an itch in a pleasant way)
We did not enjoy the food or service. Ive had Indian and Nepalese food all around the world, this tasted nothing like any other experience Ive had. It was unique but not tasty at all.
1. The place is so-so. Although targeted at locals, it also caters to tourists from the South-East Asian countries.2. The food is below avg, simply because we found some dishes to be STALE. Locals /Europeans who are not acoustumed to Indian / SE Asian food will not be able to distinguish it, but the food had a stale taste to it as if the dish is roughly a day or two old. This was my experience regarding the buffet dishes and hence the 2 stars. May be they do better with the a la carte dishes.
Worst experience. Food looked bad and tasted bad. We tried ala carte and our portions didnt include any naan bread nor papad dams. Usually, these are included in most of the indian/nepalese restaurants. Also, rice is some cheap quality rice instead of Basmati rice. We ordered naan bread separately, which was good. Otherwise, ala carte service is not worth at all. Avoid this restaurant!!
The worst service ever ever... And the food also not so good : beef curry was not tender at all, chicken bryani was like a rissotto, butter chicken extremely sweet. But the worst part, he made us order a full meal for our 6 yo daughter even I told him that he is not eating Indian. He said that this is restaurant policy. In the end, half of the food was untouched and I asked him to pack it for away. He was not so happy and gave me 2 plastic bins and told me to put it my self.PLEASE AVOID THIS INDIAN THING, I cannot say restaurant.
Not good food for expensive price. Few of them were good. There was butter in the food even when I specifically asked for vegan with coconut cream. Just frozen vegetabe curry.
Not the tidiest place on the planet, but food was ok/good for the price, nothing special. Visited with family of four 2 adults + 2 kids. We were starving when we arrived and full as hell and 50 euros poorer about 45mins later when we left. Cant really complain but cant really give compliments whatsoever... Oh yes I can as the stuff was really friendly and helpful..Our menu consisted 3 meals + one big milk + 1 garlic naan.Would I go again? Maybe not even tho I really enjoy Indian style food. There was just something that I didnt really like.
Worst restaurant and service ever.., the food was mediocre at best and the service was worst. There was only one server with 4 people in the entire restaurant. He does not understand English neither Hindi. We were seated for 15-20 minutes before he could even come out and see us. We asked to start with water and he did not even acknowledge that we asked something. When we reminded him to get us water again after few minutes, he was not happy at all. When finally he got water and glasses, he was so clumsy that the glass broke on the table. This restaurant seems to perpetually be understaffed, the serving staff is barely trained if at all, and the food is completely tasteless. The owner of this restaurant, if he or she cares, should read the reviews of the actual customers not the local guides who are embellishing the overall rating for this place. This is a perfect example of a 1 ⭐️ restaurant. Giving 1 star because we ate here.
Horrible and hopeless service and food was just tasted like red chilli.I am giving 1star because in the end they served us. We (2personreached there at 5.45pm and the person(waiter/receptionist/ managerdid not even received us, asked to sit on a table which was not cleaned and had dirty plates on it. After 15 min he asked us if we want to eat there, as it might take 20min for the food to be served. 20 min sounded feasible so we stayed. Long stoty short after 1hr 10min we got our food which tasted only full of red chilli. it was not bearable and i actually like spicy food. We had to drink two glasses of water.I would not recommend this restaurant... Hopeless service, the food is not worth at all when you have to pay 30-40 euros.
If you’re looking for authentic, tasty, and proper Indian food with good customer service, then look elsewhere.Food was pretty tasteless and even had to add sweet chilli sauce to add some flavour to it. My wife had a Lamb Korma which didn’t taste like a Korma at all according to her.The waiter who I think might have been the owner or a manager didn’t seem to understand us much as when we tried to explain something to him, he started talking about something totally different. So if you don’t speak the local language or Urdu, you won’t have much luck here, sorry to say
I was there earlier today and was highly disappointed. We called them before we got there because we were a group of 7 but when we got there the waiter slammed the door on face and asked us to leave because they were full. Wasn’t even ready to speak to us after we’d driven 40 kms to get there. We travel extensively and have never been treated this badly in any any other place/country. All of us were really excited about Indian food after 20 days of travel across Scandinavia.

Not at all good experience, I will never recommend this place to anyone who is looking for India food.Naan was half baked, in place of tandoori roti they serve readymade tortillas and I dont want to talk about paneer masala. Please avoid if you are hungry for Indian food it will definitely disappoint you.
Great lunch, for 10€ (late 2019you get tasty Indian food, nice breads, and a delicious mango lassi to top it off (not sure if everyone gets one or if we just got one as it was a bit quiet). Beef, chicken and good choice of vegetarian options. Definitely will come back.
The food is quite good. Cost is very very cheap. Just 9.5 euros for buffet lunch. So if youre looking for a decent budget but tasty lunch, this place is good. They really need to clean the restaurant. I would highly advise to avoid going to the toilets here.
I can not be objetive because that day I was sick and I wanted something hot to eat and I ask for the lentil soup they have in the menu. It was the best thing I could do it because its was perfect and after that I started to feel better. I ate with one kind of bread delicious, the taste of this was like similar than pizza taste and they give us for free a mango smoothie. I dont have anything more to say.
Can not recall when I had such delicious indian food, maybe never? Totally recommend this place, during lunchtime all you can eat for 9,50€ and it is still delicious!Hows that even possible in Rovaniemi center?)
We were quite hungry and were happy to experience hot Indian meal in Rovaniemi. Very well made. Roti (the Indian bread), was very good. Each item was tasty. Desert was good too. Overall it was a very tasty Indian food.Good seating arrangement although a bit cramped one.Recommended for Indian food in Rovaniemi. Worth visiting multiple times as well.
Not friendly, borderline rude. Received no attention whatsoever. I look at the menu; and you can honestly get the same for less in bigger cities like Helsinki, which is not normal. (Bigger cities usually pricier.I left without ordering anything and visited the Amarillo restaurant close by instead. I’ve to my good share of places around the world, and this is one place I would not recommend. Can’t believe I wasted my time here.
I desperately wanted some Indian Food so visited them. While the service is courteous but the food is average, the house wines by the glass are off their flavour. Cleanliness needs to be better and the Color scheme is too dark. Look for a better place unless u r desperate
Delicious food, fast service, large portions. Three course menu for a fair price. The atmosphere in the restaurant is not very cosy though. Its clear that this building had another use before, which is hidden in a bit of an artificial way. And a little bit more smiling owner would make us also more happy :Recommend the Lamb Biryani and the freshly baked Nan bread, delicious!
Incredibly disappointed. We made a booking a week ago to ensure our party of 13 could be seated. It was confirmed and set for 6pm for the 24th Dec. We are here at the doors and they are closed until the 26th Dec. We have children and infants with us in -15°C!
The worse place I ve ever been in my life in. Finland.
Really, really good curry! Authentic cuisine, very tasty and generous portions. Very good home made Naan bread. Great service, not to be missed if youre looking for curry in the Arctic circle!
+Good service +malai kofta +pakora....- however the bread was really fake ! Not parata at all... have a look at the photo
Very good Indian food, look out for their super value for money buffet lunch for €9.50
Quantity wise its too good but taste is average.
