Amerikaanse Begraafplaats 1, 6269 NA Margraten, Netherlands, Maastricht
Graveyard dedicated to the U.S. military with statues, a chapel, a tower & a reflecting pool.
This is the graveyard on which my adopted soldier, Elliott Ruggles Corbett II is buried.
Very sad memory of those soldiers
Make America great again 👍
Respectful remembrance
Impressive… great respect for all those who have sacrificed their lives for our freedom.
An extremely sad place that shows the magnitude of World War II devastation. A place where the souls of many a man roam in despair as they will never make it home to their families. An apology to wars that doesn’t show enough how devastating this war really was for everyone in Europe.
Went to Margraten to be the first visitor to my uncle buried there. There is a family who adopted his grave in 1944 and have cared for it ever since. I had no idea that graves were adopted. Met this wonderful family there. It was a humbling yet amazing experience. I found myself unable to adequately thank them. Robert Gale
A very beautiful American cemetery that is also the only American cemetery in the Netherlands. And where more than 8000 fallen soldiers are buried, there are also 6 soldiers who have been awarded the Medal of Honor. And there are even 40 sets of brothers buried next to each other. This cemetery is well worth a visit
Its hard not to be filled with sadness when you see all the names and crosses - it is quite overwhelming. My deepest respect.
An absolutely beautiful cemetery that is the final resting place for over 8,000 Americans from WWII. If you are in this area of the Netherlands, I wholeheartedly recommend that you place the cemetery on your itinerary.
A somber and beautiful reminder of many of the great men and women that lost their lives during the war. Thank you to all our US Veterans.Excellent map and explanation of movements during WWII.
I would habe liked to park my car on the second parking far away from the entrance in order to first do a bike trip in the surrounding villages and afterwards visit the cemetary by foot. When I arrived a security guy sent me away when he saw I was going to bike. Can you give me an explanation please ?
Very impressive! All the graves have been adopted. Very well maintained.
A place to respect and visit if possible to adopt one or more is the most beautiful thing to do in your private life,
Come to show respect for the soldiers who gave their lives for our freedom.
Closed, beats me why you would close a cemetery during a pandemic. Maybe a little bit over the top?
Military cemetary beautifully kept by the American Battle Monuments Commission to honour the brave US servicemen who paid their highest price fighting the nearby battle fields of World War II. Excellent information center directly near the cemetary. The yearly held Liberation Concert by the Southern Netherlands Philharmonic and choir is always a joy to visit.
Incredibly powerful experience. The entire facility is outstandingly well maintained. Do not miss if you travel in the area.
a place to pay respect to those who gave their lives for freedom
A beautiful and peaceful place, well tended in a caring way.
Really respectful place. Very nice an friendly atmosphere.
Very impressive momument rembering the unbelievable sacrifice the Americans made liberating us by ending World War 2
Well maintained and managed. Very helpful staff and manager.Sad but beautiful place.
Visited from the UK. Very thought provoking. Would recommend a visit to learn more about history and the scale of war.
One of the essential experiences for an American traveling Europe, aside from all the native cultures, is to go see an American cemetery from the world wars. No picture or video of the iconic field of simple white crosses can possibly do justice to the enormity of the sacrifice that you realize when seeing them all laid before you in person. We came to visit a relative on the Wall of the Missing, and left feeling gratitude and pride at the dedication to their memories exhibited here. The grounds and structures are immaculate, and the staff is outstanding. Thank you again.
Beautiful place. Great to see and to feel the respect for the buried soldiers.
Very impressive and well maintained, with the respect for our burried heroes.
That we will never forget that because of your sacrifice we are able to live in freedom and speak in our own native tongue.God bless the American soldiers who liberated Europe and freed us from evil!
Never visited it but yesterday i was in the area and i just had to. More than 8000 graves of young men half my age which gave their lives for the freedom of Europe. There was a feeling of peace there. Chirping birds and everything well taken care of.Visit it and never forget about it.
I was so honored to see what exceptional work the ABMC and the local Netherlands citizens were doing to upkeep this gorgeous memorial and cemetery.
Lovely in the spring ... gorgeous flowering bushes .. i think they are rhododendrons. We were in Europe for a tour but went a couple days early to do our own thing. My husband had been stationed in Germany years ago and visited this cemetery but its something he wanted to revisit so we rented a car and came to experience it. We heard Its immaculately cared for by the local people and theres a wait list to honor these heroes. We thought that was a beautiful gesture. Didnt see alot to do on the way there or in the area.
“New life from war’s destruction proclaims man’s immortality and hope for peace”Eight thousand two hundred and ninety one Americans found their final rest at this serene spot in the Netherlands. One thousand seven hundred and twenty two others are recorded missing from the period leading up to September 1944 when Germans troops used the nearby highway to withdraw from countries occupied for the four years leading up to that point. It is beyond touching to walk amongst my fellow veterans, myself about to return to a land they will never see again. Standing among visitors as the only English speaker in earshot it is humbling to see the appreciation shown for the memories of an allied force with no one knowing I’m the lone American and it’s my country they are respecting.
I saw this place while driving by and asked the driver to stop and give me a while. I am so glad I did. It is very well cared for. I was told that local Dutch adopt a soldier to care for their site, and there is a waiting list to do so.
Very impressive memorial for those who fought for our freedom in which we live today. For ever grateful for their sacrifice.
WW2 US military cemetery Margraten in the Netherlands. 8301 serviceman found their final resting place here, fighting fascism, racism, slavery, intolerance and genocide. This place is a warning for future generations. Look at the gravestones and observe that most men who are laying here were in their twenties.
A must place to visit, the memorial remind you of being grateful to all those foreign soldiers who foot for our freedom. Its a beautiful place, peaceful, with the maps of invasions and battles.
Beautiful and well maintained. A special place for the fallen to rest. Place was busy when we visited and it was great to aee that the fallen are not forgotten.
Deeply moving and immaculately maintained to those Brave men who gave their lives so we could all enjoy freedom.
My uncle J.LJordan 687th FA buried there May 18 1945. My dad Jack Jordan Pattons 3rd Army, saw J.L in Neumarket Germany about 2 wks before J.L was KIA. day after VE Day. 4 years ago we found out J.L was there in his final resting place. It was overwhelming & wish I could go there. God bless the Dutch for loving our guys & our United States. We love you dearly. J.L your little brother never got over you not coming home after the war. Your with Jesus now & we will see you later. Bless the people of Margraten.
Awe-inspiring and beautifully maintained. I wish every American could visit. It truly brings home the sacrifices made for our country and for each of us.
A nice place for a sad history. A respectful rework of the death of thousands...
An absolutely incredible experience. My Uncle is buried there. We had the honor of meeting the lady who has taken care of his grave for over 70 years. All Americans should experience this place.
A piece of history close to Maastricht. It deserves to be visited. Very well maintained.
Here one can honour the memory of people who sacrificed their lives leberating European nations in WW II. Silent and solemn...
Americans gave their lives to defeat the Nazis and the Dutch have never forgotten. A beautiful and peaceful memorial to the fallen, and an inspiration that local families are grateful for the honor of caring for a gravesite. As an American, I am thankful for sacrifice of our soldiers and the dedication of the Dutch people to their memory. We all should be...
My uncle and his comrades, shot down by the Nazis, are all buried here. I was the first of his family to visit his grave in March 2016. There is so much respect imparted by the Dutch citizens upon our servicemen who gave their lives that it leaves a permanent impression upon you. Every grave is adopted by a Dutch native, is cared for, cleaned, prayed over (if that is their inclinationand represented on Memorial Day each year. Even if one doesnt have a relative there, the facilities are so beautiful and moving that any American passing through should spend a couple of hours there to pay homage to our fallen servicemen.
Beautiful and well kept memorial
Very impressive place. Lots of soldiers who lost their lives in World War 2 are buried here. If you are around, you must visit.
