Johnson County Community College's modern-art facility including an auditorium, cafe & classrooms.
Great free contemporary art museum. If you enjoy art its a good two floor art museum that you can walk through in an hour or so depending on how long you stop to look at the art.
the people who work there are exceptionally nice. very nice facility. some of the art is definitely not suitable for children.
Although small, this museum is a great place to visit to see a variety of contemporary art. With exhibits that change out, its worth visiting periodically to see the new shows. The building itself is really interesting, and its conveniently located on the JCCC campus.
Great art and nice people
Absolutely one the best balances between stunning architecture, museum and contemporary art. Youll be remarkably surprised/impressed by this hidden jewel located at Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, KS.The parking lot is approx 100 feet away with ample spaces. The museum cafe, auditorium and class room venues are outstanding. The wide range of superlative curation/display of contemporary art will exceed expectations and admission is free. From the bench seating of steel and leather harkens Mies van der Rohe/Bauhaus and Seagram building lobby, suddenly you feel transported to a polished New York museum atmosphere. Rated as one of the top 10 university/college campuses for public art in America, citing the sculptures, paintings, ceramics, photography and works on paper installed throughout the campus. The museum presents many of the regions most important exhibitions of leading-edge contemporary art, as well as dynamic and diverse educational programming. The building is clad in a veneer of Kansas limestone with hues similar to the Getty. The architecture is beautifully done by Kyu Sung Woo Architects Inc. His philosophy, " A museum should be experiential – both in viewing art and experiencing the building itself ".Mr. Woo attended Harvard Graduate school of design...the same university Walter Gropius once directed at the graduate school of design.Thank you JCCC and board of trustees:Jerry CookGerald Lee Cross Jr.Nancy IngramAngeliina LawsonGreg MusilLaura Smith-EverettPaul SniderGenerous Benefactors: Jerry and Margaret NermanHighly endorse this work of art in a big city with a small town feel
Exceptional exhibits in a beautiful atmosphere. Staff is extremely knowledgeable.
Very good museum for free. Definitely visit if you are in the area looking for something to do.
What a great modern art museum. Kiddos had a blast looking at all the colorful paintings and other artwork. There is the main floor with 2 rotating exhibitions and the second floor with their more permanent exhibits. The docents were super helpful and kind.
Outstanding artwork, knowledgeable and friendly staff.
This is one of the few remaining places you are allowed to just exist at for free.Art is something that everyone should be able to enjoy no matter one’s social class.
Clean, spacious museum with good parking options and huge campus. Museum classroom is a fun place to visit and create!
Great small museum. Theres plenty of artwork all around the school as well.
Has charms making noteworthy and pulling it out of the shadow of the Nelson and Kemper.
This is a beautiful and free place to attend at JCCC. Excellent displays and accommodations and a very, if not a brand new facility. My new favorite place to go to in Overland Park, KS.
This space is a treasure Of community college in Kansas City. Astonishing space with multiple galleries full of current but also permanent exhibitions. You can find great contemporary artists but also tons of interactive programs for children and students as well! 💙 I love it!
Pros:1Is freeCons:1Not super large (maybe this is a pro)
Beautiful works of art. We enjoyed learning about the artists and each they made. Definitely recommended.
Wonderful collection of contemporary paintings and sculptures. Highly recommended.
A great place. The best part is entry is free for all. They upgrade their collection too! Enjoyed a lot.
We happen to be in there area because the wife had an appointment at the Indian Creek cancer hospital so we thought wed look for something to do out that way, my wife enjoyed it I well am not much on contemporary art but hey I cant draw stick people so maybe Im not someone who can give my opinion of it, go for yourself and make your own conclusion probably different than mine.
This is an interesting museum filled with contemporary art. It is located on the campus of Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, KS. I saw a Filipino Artists work and it was awesome to see 💕 The staff of the museum were courteous and polite
A favorite place to see fabulous art. A great collection and always new exhibits to check out.
A lovely curated museum on the campus of Johnson County Community College. Saw the Queer Abstraction exhibit when before it left. Its free!
Always a great experience to visit the Nerman. Fantastic permanent collection upstairs and rotating exhibitions downstairs that are also well curated. Museum manageable size to have a great visit catching the new exhibits down and pieces upstairs in the permanent collection.
Amazing collection of art. As a citizen of Johnson County I am proud that we have a great community college. The Nerman museum is the biggest collection of contemporary art attached to a junior college in the US.
Helpful staff, lovely art, had a great time. The queer artist exhibit was fantastic.
Beautiful Art. The architecture was lovely too. There was a nice looking cafe. My only complaint would be it felt like there was a worker staring at me everywhere I went. But I probably brought that on myself since I went on a Wednesday and there was no one else around.
Had a great time at Japan fest
Since we live very close to JCCC, we go to the Nerman Museum often and love to eat in the cafe. Both are very easy to find and parking is close by. A must see for anyone tho lives or is visiting Johnson County. Located on the grounds of Johnson County Community College, this architecturally striking museum has an outstanding, culturally relevant collection from nationally known artists. We happened on the Museum during a weekend visit with friends in Overland Park and wished we had more time to enjoy the exhibits.
This was a very enjoyable museum! The building is beautiful, everyone was friendly, and the art was impressive! I took my daughters here on a Tuesday afternoon. We had the place to ourselves and enjoyed looking at all the art. It is a smaller museum, which made it a bit more accessible to take kids. We had a great time!
So many items that inspired. This is a delightfully small museum that is easy to walk through which gives one time to pause contemplate the exhibits. I go often.
Really nice museum. Way more space than it looks like from the lobby. Some very interesting pieces of art displayed. The cafe next to the museum was great too. Good coffee!
This is a hidden jewel in Johnson County. Permanent pieces are a wonderful, visiting artists interesting. I hope to see more art pieces in the future. The facility is well designed to show the art. I just want to see more.
Though small, this art musesum is top notch. It reminds me a lot of the Nelsons modern wing. And its free and open to the public!
Beautiful artwork in the gallery. It is a very well kept, clean and professional looking museum.
Fairly small, so dont expect to spend more than an hour there, but the collection was very nice and thought provoking. I dont know if they change art pieces at all, but if they do Id def go again
Amazing museum full of current art, cant recommend it more honestly. If you like stuffy classical paintings, probably not for you, but I literally saw stained glass in the shape of a bouncy castle, so Im sold.
This art museum is relatively small, but exceptionally well designed. The staff is approachable and knowledgeable, the pieces exquisite, and the museum is free. Definitely worth a visit!
This museum sits on the campus of Johnson County Community College. Its a showpiece and contains significant examples of contemporary art. The at collection is actually spread out all over the campus but the prime pieced are in the Nerman. If youre looking for eye candy and great prints and sculpture, a walk around the hallways on campus is obligatory. And the Cafe Tempo serves great lunches. Cant lose here.
Love this museum/ gallery! Its the perfect size with interesting art by interesting artists! I loved all the exhibits. My mother and I had a great time there. Then we had lunch in the cafe. She loved her salad and sandwich I didnt particularly care for my salmon sandwich and salmon salad. But I did love my cookie, coffee and ambiance!
It was nice, a little small but clean and great exhibits.
Awesome museum fairly small but they have some great artwork! The staff is also friendly and very helpful.
Great space, exhibits and atmosphere. Love having another art museum to explore in addition to the Nelson-Atkins and Kemper Museum. Parking isn’t the best, as they are in the middle of a community college campus.
Great collection here - the permanent pieces are excellent, the rotating temporary exhibits are always very interesting/thought provoking. Small enough to get through quickly if you dont have all day to explore a larger museum. Theres also other art around campus to visit as well outside the museum collection
What an unexpected pleasure! Better selection of art than many of the smaller contemporary museums. Plus, they support musicians and writers!
A variety of contemporary paintings, using a variety of acrylics, oils, paper, and ink. Some statuary, and one video installation. New galleries to open mid-June. Until new space opens, there is limited work to view.
Wonderful gem! Fantastic exhibits. Dont miss the cafe next door for lunch. A delightful way to spend an afternoon!!
Very accessible contemporary art museum, convenient parking and they offer some great art classes for kids.
Another hidden gem in Overland Park. I first came across this while location scouting for a project. The exhibits were amazing and the information desk was very helpful in explaining what was being shown. Even the lobby area was breath-taking with its almost entirely glass walls.I"ll be sure to visit this museum again.
Great gallery of contemporary art with interesting exhibits that cycle through. Very beautiful design of the building and nice cafe on the first floor. Definitely a gem amongst the suburban sprawl of Johnson county.
