From T. rex skeletons to an insect zoo, popular attraction holds more than 35-million artifacts.
This museum is amazing! Everything is beautiful and well kept. The dinosaur exhibit is something special to see. They have an extensive mineral crystals exhibit. The animal kingdom halls are very detailed. It is like looking through a window, into a glimpse of a habitat far away. This is a truly special place to visit.
Very well-curated museum with beautiful and informative displays. Several fixed exhibits are must-sees and they have some that rotate. Lots of history packed into one building, covering dinosaur fossils, mammalian evolution, the history of the area, and its set on the beautiful grounds of the expo center, just North of the LA Coliseum.Definitely taking my kids there next time we visit my family!
Beautiful walk and front garden. My girlfriend and I had an amazing time being there and looking at all the attractions. There was a TON to look at and read. You want to come early so you can see all of it!
I never fail to enjoy myself at any museum that has dinosaur skeletons on display but going to NHMLA is best enjoyed mid-day on a weekday in my humble opinion. Its quiet, save for a few elementary school groups which, while loud have an infectious enthusiasm. I often had whole exhibit halls to myself or with a small handful of other visitors. The staff are friendly and the exhibits are well curated without going too heavy handed. When I relocate in a few months itll certainly become a regular haunt, if only so I can get face time with the rats downstairs.
Crazy about the crystal 💎🪨🪐🦕 and also dinosaurs ! Had a good time here~ if you love crystal things must come ! Also there is a big rose garden outdoor place ~ nice nature park!but difficult to find the car parking around here when it’s holiday ( easily full of parking recommend to take Uber maybe better .
Went w/ the free Los Angeles Resident ticket thats available from 3:00pm to 5:00pm on weekdays & we had a blast. We thought 2 hours would be enough time to see everything but we were wrong. There is so much more to see than imagined. Its beautiful, clean, relaxing & a lot of fun. Will go again!(pro-tip: there is an underground level with an interactive place for kids & a selfie hallway. Take the elevator down!)
Worth it for the exceptionally well presented fossils of dinosaurs and prehistoric mammals. Not so sure about the taxidermied animals, better go to the zoo. Also has an exhibition about gemstones, spectacular colors. Infos and facts are well presented for adults as well as children. Definitely worth the $15 per adult. Parking is a flat fee of $15 per car directly on site.
I went to see dinosaurs and I was not disappointed. I felt like a little kid. I took so many pictures. I was talking about it to my co workers all night to the point I was told to stop. But Im like they had dinosaurs! They also had Inca Myan and Aztec artifacts thats cool since its Hispanic heritage month. Oh if you have an EBT card you get 2 adult and 2 kid tickets free. Parking is 15 bucks but you could take the train the expo line drops you off right in front. I saw a lot of couples on dates. Its a huge place you can totally get all your steps done there
Beautiful museum. Attended a special screening here and was able to explore a part of the place. Great set up and layout. A great place to bring young children for educational purposes.
Experience - My husband and I took out 4year old son. My son had a wonderful experience. We spent a little over 3 hours there.Tickets - Bought online, no wait to get inFood- Take snacks, water if you plan on staying a few hours. Food, and snacks are available a little pricey in my opinion.Staff - Everyone is very helpful and friendlyParking - $15.00 for regular vehicle. We went on a Sunday during the Dino Expo, parking wasnt close but there was lots of it. They have 2 lots one closer to the museum was full. If you enjoy or dont mind walking then youll be fine with the 2lot. You pass by the Space, and Science center and the USC stadium
I love museums. The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles is such a beautiful building and has amazing history built into its gorgeous architecture. The exhibits are thoughtfully curated and the museum keeps it fresh with special exhibits and experiences available. We went to visit the butterflies before they shut it down (and before the heat wave). We also loved the updates to the dinosaurs exhibits and the tie in to Los Angeles as it may have been millions of years ago. Love that the museum shop is secondary to the museum itself. Great day out, wonderful displays and experience.
Lots of super cool exhibits, the gemstone and mineral exhibit was fascinating and the animal diaramas were beautifully done. Definitely a fun place to spend the afternoon
A pretty good museum. Was surprised by how large it was on the inside. A good mix of new and modern exhibits along with the old classic dusty displays and dioramas. There were a few modern interactive activity areas for the kids but since those spots were few and far between they tended to get crowded. A couple of areas were roped off (for renovations it seemedbut unfortunately they didnt update the maps or guides to make that clear. The gift shop was ok and full of standard items. Parking can be a challenge if you are not familiar with the area, though there is public transit immediately adjacent if that is convenient for you. Dont know if there is enough here to justify a membership, but it was a fun (half a dayexperience.
One of the greatest natural history museums on our planet. The collections are vast and cover every area of the sciences, including anthropology, paleontology, and mineralogy, also, local history, ancient Latin American history, and of course, many, many dinosaur bones. They also have live animal galleries, classic taxidermy halls of beautiful animals in dioramas, gardens, temporary exhibits, early mammals, early humans...A day spent here is a walk through all of the earths most richest treasures and stories.
This was my 1st time to the museum. The exhibits are awesome and the staff is amazing. We paid extra for the Dino experience ( I only recommend this if you have young children), and the butterfly pavilion.. the butterfly pavilion was amazing and the time inside was perfect. My only disappointment was lunch. I thought $80.00 for 4 was a bit high for the quality of food.my wrap was rather bland lacking much substance. My nieces chicken sandwich was dry and the fries were cold. The BBQ chicken pizza was surprisingly delicious as was the salad. Overall a great day.
Super cool place with lots to see. I got the package for museum and butterfly pavilion. Butterfly pavilion a little smaller than expected, but nice place to sit and mingle with the butterflies. Inside museum is nice. Not super full of people which is nice. Good place to spend the day.
It was an amazing day for me as I had a big chance visiting this wonderful place. I have not been in any nature museum like this before. Thanks for my super advisors for bringing me to here. This place is not only great for kids, but also for their parents. My super advisors bough a ticket before entering this area. I remember it cost over 10 dollars for one person. I spent over 3 hours observing, reading, enjoying all wild specimens.
Great experience! The teenagers loved all the interactive activities. The garden was very peaceful. We were able to get complimentary tickets as a Los Angeles resident after 3. Great for the whole family.
This museum was very educational. Best thing to see is the dinosaur exhibit and I took the most photos/spent more time here. North American and African animals are just taxidermy and somewhat familiar because of aliving in N. America myself and bthe access to nature documentaries via streaming media services. I still gave it five stars because of location, price, dinosaur exhibit, and overall experience.
Well organized and very nice collection of a little if everything. The kids loved it the most and they really enjoyed the variety of categories and explanations of the important elements. The butterfly exhibit was fully booked and you need to book it one week ahead.
All of a sudden I love dinosaurs!?! I didnt think this would be a favorite for me, but the museum is curated so well, and the architecture is so good, that its my new favorite. The exhibits of animals are amazing. Im not usually a fan of taxidermy, it usually feels kind of creepy, but they are done so well at this museum. Theyre life-like, with such amazing detail, and the way theyre set in the environment makes it feel as though youre looking at them in their natural environment. There was also a multimedia exhibit on Los Angeles under water that was really cool, with video and maps of where goals have been found. An exhibit of the history of Los Angeles was really well done as well and was engaging. Lots of interactive stuff in the Lab area for kids, and the ground are beautiful too. I probably spent about 4 hours here, and while it was enough time to see everything, I wish I had more time there.
Came as a kid and now im bringing my daughter. Veteran friendly plenty of parking. They have a little food court downstairs so if youre straved check it out. Definitely going again soon. Nice and clean very tidy. Wasnt to cluttered or over crowded. Temp was nice and fresh inside. The rose garden was awesome to walk around in. At the end of the day daughter loved the dinosaurs and the butterfly tour.
With so much to offer, plan to spend a good full day here. There is a tremendous amount of exhibits to see and on top of that- rolling exhibits that come during different periods of the year. Perfect for the whole family really.
This place was awesome. Kid friendly. Parking lot fee was 15 dollars. adults tickets are $15 dollars as well. To see the butterfly they will charge you an extra 8 dollars . Their is a show there that you can see and they charge separately from the 15 dollar tickets. But overall great place to take anyone.
Its even better than I remember from my youth. We I was in elementary they sponsored several quarterly trips for us to go here. JUST A BONUS: If you can show EBT card is guarantees 4 kids and 2 adults FREE ENTRY!
Super late post but me and my family had a lovely experience at the spider exhibit at this museum in 2020. We really enjoyed it and the gift shop and the little still through the garden walk. The staff were awesome. I really want to take them again now that it’s open inside.
This place was amazing!! Smaller than expected but packed with so many amazing things! Our 8 year old daughter and I, along with my husband, all enjoyed the day. Getting to see the dinosaurs was the best part. We also did the butterfly exhibit, which was amazing. You pay $8 for the butterflies and get a 30 min window for the instruction, time inside, and then making sure that no butterflies are on you as you exit. The gift shop in the butterfly exhibit was expensive. I recommend buying souvenirs inside the main museum because they are cheaper. This was seriously one of the coolest things I’ve seen. As long as you enjoy history and such, you will love it.
My boyfriend and I had a wonderful time here! This was our second time coming here to the museum and its just as fascinating from our first visit. This time we got tickets for the butterfly pavilion and it was such a beautiful experience. Its only an extra $8 per person each ticket and you have 30 minutes with the butterflies. I highly recommend that activity to everyone because its great for all ages. I do highly suggest you buy your tickets in advance online and you select your time slot for entering. Living in LA traffic is horrible all the time and we were going to the museum from Burbank. There were 2 car accidents on the freeway. So we got there about 15 min late and missed our time slot. But the lovely worker/employee named Oliver was a huge huge help. They worked at the ticket booth. They were able to accommodate us to the next time slot opening. Oliver really saved the day for us and made our experience perfect. They had such a great attitude and was really nice! So please be mindful about getting their on time for your time slot. Check out the butterflies tho! They have them until September 5th
So much to see and worth the 15 entry fee. Parking is also 15 dollars. The butterfly exhibit is extra and we didnt pre-purchase those tickets so they were sold out when we wanted to stop by there, so we didnt do that one. The gems exhibit is amazing. The dinosaur exhibits are also great and extensive. Theres an exhibit about Los Angeles as a city, but it seemed to lack details about indigenous people who lived here before the city became so big. The food options are very good in the Cafe (tasty too), but pricey (average of 10-20 per person).
Fun place for the whole family. The main section of the building was built in 1910 and has been added onto over time. There are many other museums nearby and you can make a fun day checking out the whole area.
1. If you’re an LA county resident you get FREE entry during certain hours2. It will REALLY help to have a map on your phone of the outside and inside of the museum3. Parking structure is a little confusing, so make sure you know where you parked4. You enter museum from one side, and you exit from the other side, so it will be a little hard to find where you parked, so a map HELPS5. Ticket was $15,Parking was an additional $156. I enjoyed watching all the exhibits. And the best part was the before and after videos of Los Angeles key places. It’s a nice variety of the sea world, wild life, architectural changes…and how animals evolved and adapted….
I took my son to the Natural History Museum last weekend. They were having their annual Bug Exhibit! It was so interesting to see so many kinds of bugs! We loved learning things we didnt know before, even if some of the creatures are creepy! There were vendors selling all kinds of bugs, wares made from bugs, edibles made from bugs and t-shirts! We invested in some silkworms which are very hearty eaters!!! They only eat one kind of leaf, mulberry. Any other leaf will kill them. It will be exciting to see when they begin to spin their silk! We were even able to walk in the edible garden afterward and saw some more wonderful things growing there. We cant wait for next year to see it again. As always a trip to this museum isnt complete without a walk in the Rose Garden on the way back to the parking structure!
Such a great museum and great artifacts. The exposition Park Rose Garden was such a beauty as well since it’s right out the back of the museum. I was beyond amazed by the architecture of the inside, it’s a beautiful structure. I would definitely recommend this museum if you want to learn more about the monumental findings in Los Angeles and the valley’s history.
This place is humongous! This is a great place to take children of all ages. This is also a great place for a date. They have different shops spread out across the building. I had a blast this place made me feel like a child again.
Although we went on Mothers Day but it was not crowded. But I had to park in expo park nearby. The museum is very interesting and informative. They have many activities to explore and interact with, very suitable for children and young adult. Great experience for families.
Always makes for a great educational little trip. I enjoy bringing my children here they love it especially my smaller 1 year old she has a blast in here. LA County residents come in free from 3pm-5pm just be ready to show your ID.
Such an amazing place. My 10 year old had an awesome time there. It took us 5 hours to walk around and see everything. He was never bored and we will defenitely return!! Tickets are not expensive.
Loved the museum!! So much to see that the 5 hours that we spent there wasnt enough. The gift shop was a little expensive but I think more variety is needed as both gift shops onsite had just about the same things which made it pointless to go back and forth between the shops. I would definitely recommend this as a family experience!!
I really enjoyed the museum experience. First time going to this museum. I had a blast with my family. I especially enjoyed the laid back atmosphere. This is a must go for those who are trying to stick to a budget while getting some educational enjoyment.
Why are you visited natural history museum?Because for dinosaurs!!!!!!Yes im adult and just visit alone for dinosaurMost people are adult with kidsDoesnt matter that because dinosaurs are always awesome!Honestly here is not huge, you can see everything just 2hBut still have many good stuffs. Also ticket is not so expensive.
Very pleasant experience , was a bit busy on the weekend but thats expected, typically during mornings and weekdays are the best when its most empty . The place has updated their fossils and minerals so it definitely has a bigger more to offer experience... Definitely a major must do for anyone of any age who enjoys history from clay pots and art to fossils of several land and marine animals and animals of todays world !
The exhibitions are super interesting and so well made! The whole museum is gorgeous and just so full of things go explore. The staff was nice and welcoming.
We got there at 4PM and the tickets were half price! The museum closes at 5PM but we were able to see everything we wanted to see in one hour. It was a Sunday so it was pretty empty as well. I will definitely be doing the same another time.
Its one of the biggest museums around here. You can easily be here for few hours. Even though theres not much to see here besides the gem room and becoming Los Angeles exhibit, a very very confusing layout of the building. And way too many little kids running around without supervision. If youre still interested in coming here dont forget to check out the second floor.Proof of vaccination and ID required, no masks inside. Free admission from 3-5 and free daily for California EBT card holders.
I LOVED it here! Saw and learned so many things I had never seen or heard of before! The rise of mammals exhibit was incredible. The gem exhibit was incredible. I spent about 4 hours here completely lost and immersed. 10/10 must visit
What a fantastic museum to spend the day at. Ive been to this museum multiple times and I always geek out when Im here. From the dino exhibits to mammals and everything in between, its just filled with awesome educational fun.
My wife and I took our two kids here on Saturday morning and spent a solid 4-hours. The kids are only 3 so thats good. There was lots to see and lots to do that kept them interested all the way. These photos are only a few of the areas that we walked through, it was all pretty amazing and educational. The outdoor area was relaxing and refreshing, the food court had good food as well with decent pricing. Overall a great place to have some family fun or just explore and learn from history. Will be returning again.
Truly delighted by the experience, the museum was very complete and the wings/expo areas very well cared and with much much of information about the matter at hand. The prehistoric wing is a museum-classic and a must to visit, it includes lots of information and actual-size skeleton build ups of dinosaurs and prehistoric mammals... all expositions were complemented with much side educational information. The venue has ample parking space however Id recommend to go there early as the lot may get full very fast. In case you visit the place with a senior person, you can ask for a complimentary wheelchair and everyone will assist you. Will visit the place again whenever Im back in the area.
Havent been here since I was a kid in middle school. There has been some changes to the place but for the most part its the same. The new Los Angeles exhibit is awesome as it goes through different times and places in the city. Then you have all your archeology and animals.
Great museum so much to see, a little hard to do all in one day with little ones mine got cranky by nap time. stroller is a must. You can purchase tickets online or at the door they do ask for covid vaccine card and ID so make sure to have handy. Parking is $20 If I remember correctly, $15 for entrance and other exhibits do have an extra cost. Dont forget to visit the science center next door (freeand relax in the rose garden. Totally recommend
