Cromwell Rd, South Kensington, London SW7 5BD, Laela
Landmark museum of animals and natural phenomena, with hands-on exhibits and animatronic dinosaurs.
It had been a few years and had almost forgotten what a wonderful experience is to spend some time in the museum. The imposing super ornate facade of the building is worth paying a visit but is inside where the magic happens.I took some friends to visit for the first time and were fascinated. From the skeleton of the blue whale hanging from the ceiling of the central hall to Dippy, passing through the human evolution, volcanoes, a journey to the center of the earth etc, there is so much to see.A wonderful day out for families with kids as well. Unmissable!
The Natural History Museum tour is an outstanding day of science and fun activity for all family members. Housing a staggering 70 million items, there are five main collections: Botany, Entomology, Mineralogy, Palaeontology and Zoology. The Museum is renowned for its exhibition of dinosaur skeletons in a particularly large gallery of Dinosaurs, including a spectacular Diplodocus and Tyrannosaurus (T-Rex). Find the answers to such questions as who lived when and where, who were predators and prey and what happened to them. Start your tour with Blue Zone proceeding through the Dinosaur Gallery to the fish, amphibians and reptiles before heading to Human biology with images of nature and mammals. You will be able to take a photograph of blue whale model and then see specimens of marine invertebrates. Give a break in the cafe, then proceed to Green Zone where Creepy Crawlies, Fossil Marine Reptiles, Fossils from Britain and birds are. Then head to Red Zone through the Earth sculpture via an escalator for magnificent Volcanoes and Earthquakes, Restless Surface galleries. One floor up, visit Minerals, Treasures, The Vault and the oldest tree in the world, Grand Sequoia. Visit Darwin Centre, you can enjoy the excellent Wildlife Garden which is now being transformed into an urban garden. Natural History Museum is London’s day treat. Don’t miss that.
Magnificent and giant place with everything great about it already having been said. Dinosaur exhibit is a little kid-orientated and theres so much you may have to do multiple visits. But the variety and scale of things to do easily keeps this as one of the wonders of London!
Free to visit. This Museum is a great place to visit for any age. It has so many interesting items. It is inspiring and reflective regarding are planet. It is a place of learning and awakens also the knowledge we hold within.Great staff and volunteers will help you and guide you.Accessibility at all levels by stairs and lifts.Time to visit, it is a very large museum. You can spend many hours and still feel you have only seen a small amount.Cafe and shop. Its a place where children can interact with the surroundings. Its on the list of amazing places to visit.A few pictures to give you a glimpse of inside the museum.
The building architecture is the greatest in London, it screams its contents - very befitting a museum of this importance and grandeur. The Blue Whale skeleton in the middle hall is impressive upon entering, with the other exhibits on the various floor levels surrounding. The statue to important historical figure Charles Darwin sits at the mid point of the stairs. No entrance fee, just donations. Free WiFi, with cafe and gift shop. Easily spend 2 hours exploring here.
Absolutely amazing! Child friendly and a great day out learning. We ate at their restaurant and then wandered around. My children were in particular interested in the human evolution and space sections. Plenty of space and easy access via stairs, escalator and lift. Great souvenir shop. Friendly and approachable staff.
First of all, it’s free. You can enter without a ticket and enjoy all the exhibitions. It’s beautiful inside and outside with some of the Europe’s largest assembled dinosaurs today. The other exhibitions focus on the planet earth and explain complex concepts like time, volcanoes, earthquakes in a very simple manner.
Wow such an amazing place was here for nearly 5 hrs + still didnt get to see it all! Plenty to see + do- lots of cafes + places to sit. We love it here-came to see Dippy -if you love Dinosaurs you will love it! He was amazing! Staff lovely - we will be back!
An impressive place, the museum is enormous and you cannot see everything in a couple of hours. My recommendation is to look at the map and select in advance the exhibits that are most appealing to you. The highly popular dinosaur’s exhibit is located at the ground floor and can be busy.I especially like the Earth Treasure’s gallery with magnificent rocks and gems. You can buy the museum activity book for 5p that includes a map and nice explanations and tasks for kids.
An absolutely amazing experience. The museum is beautifully designed and has so much to offer. Starting from history of Earth and volcanoes to the history of human evolution, it was a thoroughly fascinating experience.Highly recommended for kids as well as adults!
What a stunning building specifically designed and built to showcase nature for those living in a massive compact and busy city. It is open, airy and light with lots of open space to walk around. It is free entry but there is a suggested £5 donation by cash or card. 👍 The exhibits are wonderful but it is of course from a by gone era with some stuffed animals but it would be bad to remove them. Dippy the famous Dino 🦕 is home again after its UK tour and is going on another one in the future. We only had a couple of hours but could easily spend days here. There are lots of things to do for kids with a dedicated area in the basement with tables for picnics 🍱 and little people toilets so you can plan a cheap day out for the family. 😁 Would highly recommend and cant wait until we visit London again to make more time to see more here. 😎👍
Great way to spend your day as there is loads to see. I found the diamonds very interesting! However we could not find Dippy. Id recommend bringing some water as it can get a little hot when its really busy. It is in a great location as the science museum and V&A are near by as well as Hyde Park so plenty to do.
An incredible place for families of any age to visit.A free resource (donations only), which incites wonder, interest and has captured great works of art, history and science. The exhibits are beautifully displayed, the area is spacious, no queues and full of interactive learning resources. Its very child friendly and is set up in such a way that you can spend as little or as much time there as you please. The staff are friendly, the facilities spot on and the atmosphere is calm, unhurried and your free to wander as you wish. Our one small hiccup:We were inspired to visit due to my sons love of all things prehistoric. He had seen pictures of the main exhibit - the skeleton of the T- Rex, and was excited to see it.On arrival we were bewildered when the huge T - Rex was nowhere to be found. After an embarrassing conversation with staff we were informed that the Natural History Museum in New York had currently borrowed the skeleton and in its place was the skeleton of a large Blue Whale!Oops!!!However - we have promised ourselves another visit whilst next on holiday in London.Thank you for making such a wonderful resource available to the public. We loved it.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️Magnificent collections of fossils and bones of dinosaurs and other animals that is been extinct. They have lots of collections of precious natural stones from around the world and even meteorites. You need a whole day to really explore this area. One of the good thing about this museum is free. No Entrance fee needed. But if you like to give donations depends on you.
An amazing and absolutely massive museum. We had to come back two separate days just to go over the Red zone. Theres also a Blue, Green and Orange one. Its got an exhibition thats constantly being changed and the whole place is made to be interactive and engaging for kids.
One of the best museums in the whole world. And possibly one of the most famous. Ive been to London 3 times so far and I havent seen the whole museum. Its beyond incredible, and probably the collections which are not shown (behind and beneath the museumare even more incredible. You could be there for 5 days and you would still probably not see everything. The main hall is so beautiful, there is no other description of it. The part about how Earth was made and Space, volcanoes, earthquakes, etc is really interactive and great for kids, as well as adults. Everytime I visit, I learn something new. There is no favorite part, everything is a favorite part. I even saw Dippy again, after 12 years! :D Be fast because Dippy is going away again in 2023.
One of the richest collections of natural history in the heart of London. The most convenient and important part is free admission like the British museum. Although they kindly asking you to prebook timed ticket for entry, no one actually check anything, including the Dippy the dinosaur. The only downside is a very crowded museum and most of the room especially the dinosaur room is full of people.
Fascinating and free! This glorious institution is a must visit for those visiting London. The heritage building houses wondrous collections of magnificence, from the most popular, dinosaurs, to the beautiful gemstones, diverse minerals, the history of the earth, interactive earthquake experiences, and much more!
The museum hosts large collections of dinosaurs, sea animals and other species which makes it one of the most interesting museums in London. There are also different exhibitions consisting of precious metals and special stones, worth seeing. The building itself is marvelous as well.
Great experience. Its really a great treat for free. Very well kept museum. Its quite an extensive collection of specimens. Vast diverse richly detailed sections and each of them is worth visiting. Needs at least 4 to 5 hours to explore the whole museum nicely.
Weve always wanted to visit the Natural History Museum and finally got the chance to go this year. Based in South Kensington, it was fairly easy to plan travel to the location of the museum. We went on a Friday during the summer holidays and it was pretty busy but we were able to get round the museum with ease and look at all that we wanted to. It was free to enter and we had no waiting time but we were told by friend to book tickets online anyway so you have a slot time for your visit. Our main area of interest was the Jurassic era so seeing real dinosaur bones and preserved fossils was pretty amazing. We even got to see Dippy the Dinosaur that is currently at the museum for a limited time. Lots of great history and facts on earth and wildlife. Really enjoyed it. Its free to enter and all they ask for is donations towards keeping it open. The only downside I personally experienced was that I bought a salad from one of the on site Cafes and about 20 minutes after eating it, it repeated on me and I spent about 15 minutes in the loos being sick. My top tip would be to eat before you attend, take snacks and a bottle of water to stay hydrated. It got pretty hot in some of the rooms so be prepared.
Free entry to see many dinosaur fossils (including the really large onesand plenty different types of rocks. Can always take more than two hours to see everything in the different sections of the museum. Suitable to bring kids there to spend an entire afternoon.
BOOK YOUR TICKETS. We went here on a blistering hot day and the queues for no tickets was massive, when you can book the tickets ONLINE for FREE! There was no wait for people who had tickets, we walked straight in. The museum itself was amazing, and I was very impressed with the knowledge they provided about the planet. The volcanoes and earthquakes section was the best! The interior of the museum is beautiful and would definitely recommend a full day trip here. Be mindful that it is an old listed building so there is no AC.
the Natural History Museum in London is in no way inferior to that in New York. compared to the one in Berlin, this one is a lot more exciting. great presentation makes it very interesting to visit and highly recommended for children too. there is much to learn about the origins of us apes and also of humans. you could probably spend several days here and still not have read through all the information and collected all the facts worth knowing. it is also an architectural masterpiece, both inside and out.
It is about 30 years since I last visited. I find it a very interesting. The dinosaur section was amazing. Great for kids. I would 100% recommend a visit. Remember it is free. Just pop on line and book your free tickets as the queue with tickets moves faster.
Go! Amazing and more then worth the cost of admission (its freebut there is some very educational geological exhibits with formations, gems, stone density, and crystals. The fossils are expansive and dippy the dinosaur is an absolute best! The gift shop is pretty well stocked and the surrounding area has a ton to do and see!
If you are interested in geology, history or physics, this is definitely the place to go. It is amazing what you can get for free (free admission). There is so much to see. We were there for a few hours and we didn’t even see everything. The blue whale skeleton hanging from the ceiling is an extraordinary sight.
This is just awesome place. Dont miss if in London. Great artifacts, collection. The dippy return- nation favourite Dino. Was great. Its free entry better to reserve online. Fun learning . Big museum try to be early Its architecture amazed me its lovely from in and out. Close to tubes.
Another wonderful museum in London! A place to spend a whole day! Astonishing architecture, wonderful collections, kids-friendly place, nice souvenir shops. I found the dinosaur and minerals collections especially fascinating! The curators have done their job brilliantly! The part on volcanoes was really helpful and insightful!
This is a really good museum. The rock collection is quite good. The dinosaur collection is Quite good but not as good as some that I have seen across the world Particularly in Alberta Canada. The Museum seems to have an obsession with a dodo bird. Museum is easily accessible. It has many nice cafés inside. It is also very close to the V& A Museum so doing both at the same time might be a good idea. The museum is not air-conditioned but there are many parts of the museum that are well aired out so I was comfortable on a hot day.
Awesome! Perfect for kids and teens. If you are traveling with them, a visit to this Museum is highly recommended, as it is one of the most fun and interesting visits for them. It is also located near another large exhibition center loved by children, the Science Museum ... and its free!
Awesome! Absolutely fantastic! My favourite museum that I have been to. Both my brother and I are fully grown adults but upon walking in we felt like children again. I excited to see Dippy again after 5 years and it did not disappoint. If you visit do try to find the specimen rooms located a bit off the beaten path. This area is quiet but has some fascinating specimen jars that are great to see.
A fun experience all round with plenty of relics from ages past to gawp at and admire. Entry is free and especially for kids the museum is an absolute treat as the educational aspects are in plentiful abundance here. Prices in the Café area arent too bad and even the souvenir shop has plenty of quirky things. A fun day out to be had here, thats for sure.
Great museum. Ive been there twice and Ive loved the experience each time. Rich history of the earths changing landscape over millions of years and what caused the changes. It displays also the history of the different species of animals that once lived on earth and brought about their extinction. There is so much knowledge on display. The kids had fun touring the museum and asking lots of questions. There are food cafes and cake and coffee bars within the museum if you need a bite. The top 3 (or solevels are the busiest so unsurprisingly, the toilets have a long queue too but people rarely go down to the lower levels. There are large rooms there (on the school trip/investigative/research floorwith tables and seats and empty toilets. Its much quieter down there if you just wanted some peace and quiet to read or have your meal. The museum is a great place to go explore with the kids on a day out or if youre even an adult that wants to know more about the history of our planet and universe.
I’m not too sure how you can give this place less than five stars, the outside of the building is 5 ⭐️ worthy alone, absolutely magnificent!! Just check out the detail, look for the differences in the carvings etcWhen built in 1881 the cost/budget must of been huge.Step inside to marvel once more, even if you’re not as interested in the content, the building itself is phenomenal.
This is probably the most beautiful building I have ever been to.If you are visiting Oxford you should go here.Excellent exhibits - especially about the geology of Oxfordshire. There is a cafe on the first floor with a great view of the main room and the Horsebox Cafe outside. When we went it wasnt super busy but I have seen other reviews mention that it can get very busy so plan accordingly. The museum is also attached to the Pitt Rivers museum.Gift shop leaves something to be desired.
I love this museum. Its one, of the most beautiful buildings in London for me. Stunning architecture in the outside and lots of treasures in the inside. Definetely worth a visit. Entry is free but Id recommend to book a ticket online (maybe a week in advanceto safe your time slot. Cafeteria and bathrooms available.
So much to see here. We went to see the dinosaur exhibition and the conservation area. Its a very popular museum so pick your timing! Earlier in the day Ive found is much better. My only problem is the fact that you cant just enter. You have to book tickets online. So next time Id know to do that before setting off!
Absolutely brilliant. Gave a donation by the door, enjoyed seeing everything after that. Found a lovely baby changing/feeding area by the canteen & toilets to the right of the giant steps in the main hall way as well. Downloadable map available on the site or you can buy one for £1. Really educational for kids as well as adults.
Took my done as he loves history, animals, learning. We spent a wonderful day and had amazing much deserved quality time together. Its free to get in but you must book the free tickets online before entry, if you need help with this there are lovely staff at the entrance whom will offer to help you. Its advised to take your own packed lunch as the food inside is very pricey indeed and you can always sit outside on a sunny day within the grounds for a picnic. Highly recommended place to go but be warned.... Wear comfortable footwear because you will be on your feet alot.
Wow!A free attraction that you can get lost on and spend all day there. We arrived at 11am and left at 5. There was so much to see.The humming bird taxidermy display was truly amazing. Such a great work of art. Also the actual building was more breathtaking than the exhibits. We only managed to do a quarter of the museum. There is a little dinosaur cafe bit that the children enjoyed. We didnt do any of the paid stuff as there was a lot to do.Also the crystals they have for sale are at such great prices very cheap.
Its good for kids. For adults, there is a lot of improvement. I have been to natural history museums in New York, Washington DC, Oxford UK and this one. By far this is the worst natural history museum I must say. I think specimens are kept with aesthetics in mind rather than the idea of conveying knowledge to visitors. The building is grand and photogenic in every angle, indoors and outdoors. Free tickets, clean toilets are some good things. The dinosaur section was rather disappointing. As I mentioned earlier, its an absolute entertainment for kids, whereas, I would like to see real specimens and read about them rather than viewing some video playing on a big screen.
Such a wonderful day out. We spent hours here going through the floors viewing everything. The dinosaurs were amazing and seeing all the gemstones and learning about the earth was incredible. We particularly enjoyed the earthquake simulation!Make sure you wear comfy shoes as theres a LOT of walking involved!
We were there with kids, they loved it!Although it is free to visit you have to book your visit, and if it is full they dont take people without a booking, so plan ahead. The dinosaur 🦖🦕 exposition is great, but very crowded. The part about the earth geology is awesome and very kid friendly. There is a large exposition of gems also. The great hall and the building are also beautiful and impressive!
A brilliant museum full of interesting things for children including dinosaurs, the earth and space. I loved the Wildlife photographer of the year exhibition. A very impressive building. Would advise to book tickets and then you only need to scan them. The museum is free.
One of the best museums I have ever visited. It was an unbelievable geological and biological journey in time. I didnt know what I had to focus on; the beauty of the building or the collection itself. I wish I had more time(maybe daysto spend here. It was nice to meet you Dodo!
The museum was fairly busy on my visit, it seems to have lost a little bit of its edge, would have been nice if there was more interactive parts to the museum.Be good to see something new and interesting. I will say though the climate part of the museum was the more better areas
You cant go wrong with free entry. Fantastic way to spend a few hours. Great, interesting exhibitions for all ages. Bought the Kids guide but only used it for the map during the visit. Will probably make more use out of it during the train journey home!
Iconic London museum which is a must see for the whole family. This stunning building houses a natural history collection dating back billions of years. Its a huge place with many different sections and its very difficult to do the whole thing in one go. Its free though and you can come back again.Dinosaurs, human evolution, volcano and earthquake zones are just some of the things to see and enjoy. With a number of cafes, plenty of bathrooms and gift shops, there is something for everyone. The architecture of the actual museum is beautiful and we had an amazing time. Essential for anyone interested in our natural world.
Enjoyed our day out. Very interesting and educational. A mixture of exhibitions on display from dinosaurs to earthquakes to everyday birds and bugs. There are at least 2 places to eat and prices are not to bad seeing as you dont pay for entry to the museum as its free, donations are welcome. Would recommend visiting at least once. Easy access for buggies and wheelchairs
