National War Museum, Umuahia - Museum in Takum, Nigeria
Fair. Yall need to take staff training seriously.
Dilapidated, typical of a Nigerian government establishment. The museum itself is becoming an artifact in a museum. Some strategic renovations and maintenance would do the place good. Other than that, the museum is a museum!
It was good
It was a beautiful experience.
Nice place, with historical facts about the civil war
Memory of our Biafran war and I say, NEVER AGAIN
It was good time we had at the museum
Call in me right in goldbak in circles of who in me in god of father I am I am see in king covingh in y you I king coving in god of citlcet
This place is a treasure of history...ndi Abia, please maintain it even if the federal government chooses not to do so.
A Display the actors and casualties of Nigeria/Biafra civil war. Also on display are the weapons used on both sides. The curators are quite savvy with the history, easily telling this effortlessly.
A site seeing place with large environment
It was a time well spent with the school children but i believe there is room for improvement as it can be more than it is now.
This place really holds so much history that no one talks about. Its a shame that the government is not listening to the workers and the place lacks quite some development. I really had a wonderful time here learning about things that are part of my history, our history.
Nice place with lots of historical vibe. Poor thing, one cant take a pictures while in the building. Its amazing how weapons used during the war has been preserved for this purpose. Mind you, you have to drive or hire a car to take you there if its your first time in Umuahia.
The experience was great also disheartened as souls had been displaced with these equipment. We dont want war again in our country Nigeria.
Anticlimactic, the museum is practically empty
Lots of history in one place. Currently under renovation but still a lot to see.
Very good experience. The tour guide was awesome.
Great place, with a lot of renovations going on
By far one of my best in the country. The collections are well kept and the guides are nice. After my visit, i felt like i had been in the Biafran war.
One of the best museum i have visited. Located in “Museum Road,” off Umuahia-Uzuakoli road, Umuahia Abia State. The National War Museum is sited at the last administrative capital of the Biafran nation after the fall of Enugu in 1967. It has the two bunkers which housed the Voice of Biafra (V.O.B.), Biafra’s major news outlet to the outside world and the Ojukwu Bunker, the subterranean seat of the Biafran Government. The Museum is considered as a memorials to the soldiers, civilians and all other casualties of war and conflicts in Nigeria, particularly the Nigerian Civil War. To get some insights on Nigeria Biafra war, this is a place to visit.
Just get a closer idea to what the war was really like and get to understand nigeria military better in this place ,you will love it.
It reminds the World of the Great Biafran War and Nigerian Force History
This the most national war museum in Nigeria that can tell the history of Biafra war and a place to relaxing on holidays to enjoy your self.
It displays relics of war especially Nigerian civil war. Here you can feel the ingenuity and technical prowess of black Africans. Most of the arsenal used for the war were locally produced and within a short period too. It is good for kids and adults alike. There is a restaurant and also a play ground for children. Accessible entrance and parking and most of the the items on display are accessible by wheelchair.
To get a different feel then this area reflects and displays war relics, particularly Nigerian civil war, Here one can notice creativity and skill at local level. In such a short time frame most of the weapons were produced locally. with an area for both children and adult to unwind.even tho there was a decent tour guide, more work would need to be done "as usual with nigerian Centres", to preserve this historic place.
Nigerias Amalgamation in 1914 joint several tribes together to form the country. The 3 major tribes are Igbo, hausa and yoruba. In the year 1966 some social ethnic on rest brought about the civil war and the declaration of the republic of biafra from May 1967 to 1970.The war museum in Umuahia provides insights to the machinery used by both sides and also is the location of one of the bunkers used by the biafrian solders. There is the outside galley show casing tanks, aircrafts and other war weapons. Here you can use your camera for stills The entrance fee is 200 per person and you get a guide to take you in.As usual cameras are not allowed inside and even though there was no power - the works turned on the generator so we could see inside the gallery
Educative and informative place. This is student of High Grade International Academy
A place filled with a lot of history but poorly maintained. If you are ever in Abia state, you should check this place out to learn more about some historic wars that happened in Nigeria
History of our country Nigeria Civil war
Was here this year. Its a good place to go and unwind. Many things to see there, from old warships to old planes. Its great for a family outing.
The National War Museum is a historical centre owned by the Nigerian government for the sake of affording the members of the public to have a good view of Relics from the Nigerian Civil war ( 1967-1970). The museum displays weapons and other military paraphernalia from antiquities to recent times. Most importantly you will find the ingenuity of the Igbo people in terms of crafting weapons locally produced out of the necessity to defend themselves from the Nigerian military, after the declaration of the republic of Biafra by the great and legendary Col. Ojukwu. You will also find in this museum military bunkers that were skillfully used by the Biafrans during the 30 months war.Relics such as locally made armoured tanks, artillery guns, military airplanes and naval ships that were both used by the Nigerians and the Biafrans are adequately preserved.
Educative, crafty and in depth knowledge about wars.
The war museum holds relics dat touches ur emotions.... That conjures empathy for the people of the old, u dont wish to be around that time cos people passed through hell.U will ask me the essence of those wars and famine.... Nothing because Nigeria is still where they are no progress at all. So in fact it was useless fighting in those days which took several millions of lives and properties which would have better the lives of people today
Historical destination for history buff. Go with an experienced guide who knows a lot about Nigeria history, especially the civil war, and you learn a lot.
A great centre of tourism...
A National War museum at umuahia Abia State. Is a wonderful place for school excursion. At the Museum are the equipments used the civil war of 1967 to 1970 such as the boats, the Nigeria army jets, biafra army jets, the biafra radio, the Ojukwu bunker which was built underground, the army clothes. At the inner room the pictures of all the people that fought the war were displayed and their leaders. The hand equipments such as guns, matches, axes used during the war are kept at the inner room, also at the inner room is the pictures of all the event that went on from the beginning of the war to the end of it. Is a place where History of the civil war can be refreshed
The National War Museum is a historical treasure and should be visited by everyone. It is full of history and rich with culture.
In its entirety it was superb but I also noticed that there was no Light in some sections and please have someone follow people along as there is No Surveillance Cameras.
They have an amazing indigenous war collection. No tour guide was assigned to me though and the curator (I supposekept rushing me along cos it was a generator that powered the place and she wanted to save fuel I think.
Gives the Civil War feels. Great for historic tour.
The National war museum located in umuahia is a great center for historical knowledge. Especially for students. It helps enlighten on a topic that is almost never thought in schools which is the Nigerian Civil war. The museum contains various artifacts of war and shows the developmental stages of various African war equipments. It mostly centers on the ingenuity of the Biafran secessionists by showing the various incredible machines of war they created on their own under very stringent conditions..Its great for historians but a bit dull. I think it needs more funding
Detailed historical records, writing and artifacts during the Nigerian civil war. Incudes war ships and ranks of officials
The relics of the Nigerian-Biafra civil war as domiciled in this nostalgic abode. The ingenuity of the soldiers and technicians in the Biafran side are brought to bare through the display of indigenous machinery used for the execution of the war! It is a sight worthy to behold and a historical reminder of what was.
This place houses the tools, equipments, machineries and the memories of the Biafran war or rather the Nigeria civil war of 1967 to 1970. It is a museum where those machines used for the war are kept and secured. It is now like a recreational area where individuals go for outing, site seeing etc. Sometimes individuals use this place for functions like wedding receptions, event centres and also for love gatherings. It is a nice place, very cool and calm with a much parking space and so much facilities.
Till this day,I havent regretted the money paid on my excursion to this place. The relics of war are encrypted in this place. Its been a long time,so I remember few. This museum was the first museum I visited:From this visit, I first saw a dagger and saw gun powder. For the first time in my life I actually entered a warship and entered it.The ship was said to be brought from bonny. To cut the story short, you will actually not regret any penny spent to visit the museum
A national museum with lots of historical information on the civil war.No guided tours which would have made the tour more educational and provide an avenue to ask questions.Adequate parking space. The entrance to the gate needs repairs. Also some of the military hardware on display is in dire need of cleaning and maintenance.
Great experience for those interested in Nigerian History as it relates to the Nigerian Civil War. For those visiting Abia State in particular or the Eastern Part of Nigeria in general, for a holiday, a visit to this museum should be on your to-do list.
Good place to get a glimpse of some of the actually weaponry that was used during the Nigerian civil war, given the significance of such a place in history, its rather unfortunate that not much effort is put into preserving the historic artefacts. Weirdly so, they also have a "no photography allowed policy" -_- , dont ask me how I got my pictures.
Though the place is inside. It has great memories of the implement and machines used during the war. The place is quiet and conducive. A must be for everyone who wants to know about the history of the war.
