Museum featuring artifacts & interactive displays tracing the history of Australian sport.
Today Russell and I did the Combination Tour of the MCG and Sports Museum. Our guide Ian was just fantastic. So enthusiastic and so keen to impart his knowledge on a group of about 20. Everyone hung onto his every word and his stories. This is a MUST DO for everybody who even flicks onto the TV during the summer cricket season.
Did the MCG tour back in July 2022. We had booked for a 11:30am tour and it was meant to be groups of ten (Must’ve been due to Covid restrictions)We arrived early so we could go to the toilet and relax. The elderly host who was a guide told us theyre starting the tour at 11:15am but I mentioned we were booked for 11:30am, she barked back stating it’s starting early. She got grumpy when I told her two from my family were going to toilet. We were in a group totalling roughly 18, many more as the website said the maximum was. Most were from other domestic states and my in laws were from Mumbai, the host did very well to remember where the white people came from then said “And wherever else you came from”.It was extremely rushed. The heading out to the ground is just a marketing tool (You only head to the boundary fence on the fake turfso that can be done at any cricket ground.Done it once so no point doing it again or wait until a bit of fresh blood start doing these tours. The elderly still have the old school way of not being approachable.
Great place to visit with loads of interesting information. Great for children too. We went during school holidays so quite busy but still able to see everything
Such an amazing tour run by Volunteer staff, fantastic behind the scenes tour, walking on mcg at the edge. The museum was very interactive for the children too. Took 2.5hrs of our time altogether.
Great place to discover the history of Australian sporting achievements.A great interactive section for kids and adults.
I went as part of a tour group with some children for Holiday care and I have one special needs child who I had to keep an eye on so that he didnt get hurt or run off so I had to constantly hold his hand. The tour guide Liz seemed to take offense to both mine and the childs presence sniggering to one of my caucasian colleague asking if I was his mum in a derogatory tone. 1. Hey lady, not all Asians are related. 2. None of your business. 3. My colleague took offense to it as well and also said its unprofessional. 4. You need diversity training. Thanks for ruining our experience.
Amazing tour. Highly recommend 👌
Very good experience, lots to see and do.
Not that exciting for me. Lots of sporting memorabilia.
What a beautiful day spend at Australian Sport Museum(MCG)Very good and friendly tour held by MCG.The ground tour really is value for money and the guides are very friendly and knowledgeable . MUST visit when you are in Melbourne.
Great place , my son loved it :and thats all that matters 🥰
Very large, interesting collection mostly focused on AFL, Olympics, Cricket and Horse Racing. Hologram presentations by Shane Warne and Bachar Houli were fascinating. The interactive section at the end was enjoyable but definitely aimed towards children of the younger age.Information regarding what each item in the showcase could have been easier to find, rather than having to dig through the information on the touch screens.
Really interesting including history of various sports. Interactive displays. The Shane Warne 3D video was awesome! Staff very helpful & informative 👍 👏 👌 😀 😊
Could not give less than five stars. Highly interactive for the kids, could spend hours there. The cricket section was fantastic as well.Money well spent
They dont answer their phones and you get disconnected every time.
Excellent family activity. Did the combined MCG tour and museum entry. Excellent value for money. Book online in advance to get your preferred MCG tour time. MCG Tour is 1hr duration and includes entry onto the ground, through the players rooms, long room etc. Very interesting and fast moving tour, kept the kids engaged throughout.Australian Sports Museum is full of new interactive, fun games and challenges for all ages. So much information in a variety of formats. Spent 3hrs here. Highly recommended for all ages.
Nice.
Incredibile well worth the visit!
Some nice memorabilia, and a well laid out presentation. A few interactive things to keep the kids busy
Excellent facility and well worth the visit, combine with the MCG tour and makes for great value. Lots of interesting and very precious memorabilia in the museum, something for everyone, including activities for the kids. Excellent.
A great family day out! The interactive bands and games were so fun! So much to see, a huge collection of memorabilia across a huge range of Australian sports! Combined with a tour of the MCG with a lovely guide, it was great value for our family of 5. Highly recommend!
Nice activities for kids...Loved MCG tour
Really enjoyed the museum. Really need labels on individual items so you know what youre looking at though. MCC section was all the more rewarding because of this
brilliant day, very well led tour with John Gillham !! We paid for the premium tour and it was worth every cent!! Walking out onto the MCG was out of this world..
Great facilities with friendly and knowledgeable staff. Would definitely recommend
Fantastic, interesting tour. Very knowledgeable, delightful guide. Great history and artefacts in the museum
A fantastic experience, spectacular grounds very well maintained. The hosts, who are volunteers are passionate, very knowledgeable, great story tellers. My host Ian, wonderful person, very patient with our group, answered all our questions, and intertwined stories of past games into.our tour. The museum, first class!!! The sports memorabilia and historyof Australian sports, and athletes is quite impressive!Thank you from Canada!
Took the kids there on a work trip to Melbourne, they loved the interactive exhibits and being sporty kids were fascinated with all the history.
I Absolutely loved the museum. I didnt expect so much history and all the Interactive features were so fun. Also did the mcg tour which was amazing. So interesting. A must do attraction in Melbourne.
An absolute must for sports/sports history fans. Great for kids and adults alike with regular museum style displays/information as well as interactive displays and activities. The interactive wristband was a fun addition.
Overall, it was a great tour; a number of people in our group were disappointed to find out into the tour that the change rooms were not included due to a fire drill . The guy running the tour was really upset, not saying, " Ah well gotta keep moving on ." This could have been easily noted on the website when purchasing tickets . I left home 8am and got back at 3pm and only went to the G for the tour and museum . The change rooms were something I was looking forward to now need to go again . Poor form MCG tours .
Its a great PlaceVery informative and interesting they got great interactive things
Brilliant array of artefacts from the Olympic Games, cricket, football horse racing and other sports connected with the MCG over 150 years.
I took the kids here last week - my sons a cricket nut.Absolutely loved it.We had a good tour but we were disappointed the we couldnt eat lunch in the members dining room. Nonetheless, a great day out.
Loved it
Our visit was an Exceptional experience. Suitable for all the ages. MCG guided tour was so informative and got to experience lot of areas which normally close to public. Well worth the money spent so highly recommend.
This was a really cool experience and didn’t take us as long to get through everything as we thought. There’s a good mix of sports museum, history and education as well as practical activities to engage in. Worth checking out.
Its a must, just so amazing,so much to see, we have an awesome history in sport
We only went to see the 3 Richmond premiership cups initially but where surprised at the sporting memorabilia, ended up spending a couple of hours there. Plenty of interactive displays to keep kids interested. Highly recommended as a whole family experience, caters for all generations.
We had a range of kids from 2 to 11 and they all loved the museum and activities. I highly recommend.
Err, its ok. The games area was good. I cant imagine how it be if it was crowded and a non Covid time. The place was continually cleaned and the staff friendly. Typical MCC. Great staff. The displays themselves I thought were a bit dull. They tried hard but it didnt do it from me. Maybe Im not the target audience, IE a real sports nerd. I also thought that they were trying to educate me about the current politically correct behaviour.
I visited only the cricket section as I was knowing and interested in that particular section. Some amazing memorabilia for first ever international test match. Rich history of cricket and cricket in Australia. Needs tiny bit of updation though regarding recent history.
Great for any cricket lover. Full of history and mana, even for a Kiwi.
Excellent venue and great value for money here with the tour and Museum. Make sure to book on days when the tours can go down to the turf. Amazing to see the building from all levels including the players areas. The Museum had a lot of interactive displays suited to all ages. Very comprehensive with information on most sports.Staff very very polite and helpful.Well worth the visit.
An immersive, multi media, museum with excellent coverage of sporting prowess and achievements. The museum is open on game days only up until the game begins. There is plenty of information and articles to keep even the mediocre sports fan pursuing for hours. You can see how fast a race horse heart pumps or compare you batting technique against the legendary Sir Don Bradman.Staff are very helpful with insight into the vast collection and always available for a query.Access is via the MCG gate 3 entrance and once inside gate 3 you will immediately see the “National Sports Museum” ticket office.
Strangely not too busy here in January school holidays. Good mix of displays and interactive exhibits to satisfy young and old. Matchday experiences for the kids (and parents!are well worth the extra few dollars. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff on hand as well. We spent more time here than we thought we would. Highly recommended.
Awesome place to learn about Australian sports - tons of memorabilia, sporting history and you get to understand how they contributed immensely during the World War periods. The staff were very generous with their time (alot of volunteersand shared insights & the citys sporting history with us.To get here, catch the tram & alight at Jolimont Station MCG/Wellington Pde (11).
Well worth a visit if you enjoy see some of sport’s history, my interest was the cricket. Fantastic hologram of Shane Warne speaking of his experiences playing here. I’ve added a video clip of this.
Definatly worth the price of entry. (Which is pretty good when you combine it with the MCG tour. Such a massive amount to see and fun interactive sport activities for both adults and kids!
Great museum for Australian sports. Must see!!
