The National Police Memorial commemorates the police personnel whose lives were lost in the fight against terrorism, militancy and insurgencies in different states. Not only one must visit the memorial to pay tribute to the martyred but one must also visit to have a greater insight on the police forces in India.Did you know that the first Kotwali (Police Stationwas created by Shah Jahan in 1648 and the first FIR was lodged in 1861. Isnt it interesting. We all know that police forces are trained to tackle terrorism, insurgency, extremism, communal riots, coastal security, cyber security, surveillance, infiltration, threat assessment and many more. Why would we not like to know in depth about such activities taken by the police force. The central sculpture i.e. slab of granite weighing 238 tonnes has been excavated in Telangana and has been brought all the way to Delhi in a trailer. There is a detailed short film about the monolith granite slab excavation and its transportation to memorial. Take my words - Its amazing. There is a also a small auditorium which aires short videos on the police valour. The walls of the auditorium have posters of movies related to police forces which have made us fill with pride such as Sarfarosh, Shool, Khakee, Singham, Aan etc.You will know something more about the various central and state Police Foreces in India viz. CISF, SPG, NSG, RPF, CRPF, IB etc. and also about dog squad, camel squad, pigeon carrier service. If you like to read more about the same then there are recommend books such as Voice of CBI, CBI Headquarters, Police: The Human Face, Outside CBI, Jungle Warfare etc. kept on the shelf at the memorial. The coffee table book of the various state police states are also displayed.A must visit for all age groups when you are in Delhi. Do Visit.
🇮🇳🇮🇳Years in the making finally a National Police Memorial has come up in heart of the city. It pays tribute to those policemen who made the ultimate sacrifice in the call of duty to keep the nation together. Every year on the Commemoration day on October 21, Union Home Minister and the top hierarchy of the police forces pay tribute to those who made ultimate sacrifice in call of duty. The Memorial has Walls of Honour having names of about 40,000 policemen who laid their lives. The Memorial has come up well. There is also a plan for Museum which is yet to come up.

At long last the memorial is up. I wish the entrance was well marked and the plaza had less paving. The monolith granite obelisk is impressive. The museum in the basement is interesting and hopefully will see a lot more people visiting it to appreciate the hard work various police forces do to keep us safe. Theres is indeed a thankless job.

The memorial also commemorates the large number of police lives which were lost in prevention of crime and in maintenance of law and order. The memorial was first conceptualised in 1984, but the plan to have a National Police Memorial was only first proposed when Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the prime minister.
