Great place to visit, lots of displays of shops and equipment.Good demonstrations of Rope Making and Cannon Firing.HMS Trincomalee is great I could get onboard with my mobility scooter.The Cafe was good with friendly staff and nice food.We spent most of the day there and had a wonderful time.

Amazing. Do it. You wont regret it. Dont miss the sessions run by the staff either. Fantastic experience. Strongly recommended.Blue light card discount for emergency service workers available.

Excellent Museum set in a period setting. The exhibitions are very informative. Walk on to and explore a 3 masted sailing ship and see how mariners used to live and keep our seas safe.A nice little cafe that serves basic drinks and food.Plenty of free parking. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

What a great find! Loved this place, with the ship & all the old shops showing the history. Someone has spent a lot of time setting up these displays. Well worth a visit!

The Exhibition is really good. We went especially to see the Trincomalee but there was so much more to see. Great childrens playground too and a Orrible Histories interactive exhibition. Its a bit cheaper if you book in advance and Gift Aid if you are a taxpayer.It gives them an additional 25% at no additional cost to you. There is also a Museum of Hartlepool included. Very good value and a nice town too. Plenty of parking for our Motorhome at the venue

Fascinating small museum site, which packs in a huge amount of history, well-interpreted for all ages. The centrepiece is HMS Trincomalee, beautifully preserved.

Really enjoyed going round here again it was nice a quiet and no queue to see everything. The ticket is for a year and it tells the story of navy

Interesting ship and set in an old village. The horrible history exhibition was hands on and great for kids. Also a play area and cafe; something for both kids and adults! There were exhibitions every hour and they shot a musket and a cannon. The walk through exhibition was great too. Very life-like, it took your mind to what it was like to be on the ship. Inspirational. Spent most of the day there

Fantastic day out for not much money , it was just under £60 for 4 adults & 2 children . Plenty to look at on the ship , the middle if which does gave a ramp if youre disabled but the higher & lower decks would be impossible to access if you have mobility problems. That said there is a small museum , plenty of shops set up to look as the would when the Trincomalee was built some are interactive, behind the ship there is a playground, rooms for tge children to fire cannons etc & small cafe which was very reasonably priced .Loved the talk at the end of the day after only expecting to be there for an hour we spent whole afternoon there & a bonus is if you supply your email address & you go back within 12 months its free entry .Bargain day out that adults & children will love

First visit this week and what a fantastic place for the whole family. We visited with a 5 year old and 3 year old and everyone was kept entertained. We easily spent a few hours here and didnt see everything on offer. The demonstrations on throughout the day were interesting and entertaining but one of the best things about the visit were the staff. They were so friendly and fantastic with the kids, showing a clear interest in what they were discussing. Looking forward to visiting again, great that the tickets last for a year.

Lots to see and do here for all ages. Really enjoyed going on board the Trincomalee. Plenty of information boards to explain what you are seeing. Some hands on items were a bit worn. There is a Horrible Histories exhibition for younger family members and plenty of outdoor activities to take part in. Nice shop, good cafe and lots of toilet facilities. Would recommend for a nice half day trip.

Fantastic few hours,starting with 11am fighting ships tour. Loved the olde world street, fantastic rope making demonstration and firing of the musket .enthusiastic volunteers and guides in costume. As for the HMS Trincomalee, stunning what was built 200 years ago

Worth every penny the buildings are set out with dummies reliving the past. You feel as if you are there in the 1820s. The ticket lasts for a year so you can visit again for free.

What a little gem of a museum in Hartlepool. Fabulous displays, lots to do, fantastically restored naval frigate is a delight to explore. . Free parking. Ticket price very reasonable and easily a few hours can be spent on site.

This place was well worth the visit. For the price of entry there was a huge amount to see and do. Book in line for savings. Lots of displays and interesting information being shared. A great way to find out about a sailing war ship. If you have watched the film Master and Commander its probably the closest you are going to get to feeling what the ship might have been like (although the historical time scales might be slightly out). Fun for all the family, we spent over 3 hours there.

Fantastic museum!We had a wonderful morning here, exploring all the different places.The playpark is absolutely amazing!

Lovely place to go, demonstrations through the day, good shop to walk around but watch your head! Lots of info in the shops around the ship and a horrible histories section for kids. Staff knowledgeable and happy to chat, tickets valid for a year, so well come again

Excellent visit. The fighting ships exhibition was brilliant, very evocative of life on board and entertaining for the kids. Extensive displays in the shops which didn’t have time to read all of it. Demo of cannon and musket firing. The ship itself is brilliant as so much of it can be walked around right down to the hold and the copper lined magazine. This is a must see for anyone interested in history

Booked ahead online as the website suggested, no mention of a discount for Veterans. I mentioned it when I got there and was told there is a discount but, because I’d booked online already, there wasn’t anything they could do - surely either the website should mention the discount or the museum should find a way of applying it when you arrive….. a bit disappointing as someone who served in the Royal Navy! My son enjoyed the visit; the ship’s amazing but some of the shoreside displays look a lot more tired than they did a few years ago.

The National Museum of the Royal Navy is an excellent place to visit. There is something for all ages to enjoy and for enthusiasts of all things Naval, there are lots of interesting and informative exhibits to explore. We visited on a weekday in the school holidays. The museum wasnt crowded and there was only a short queue at the entrance. The ship is lovely to explore, but it would have been nice to have information boards on it, instead of having to guess what each area was used for. By the side of the magnificent ship are a number of establishments that bring naval history alive and give an inkling into the conditions experienced by early sailors. However the commentary is a little loud and young children may find it a little scary. There is a play area and horrible histories area for children of all ages. There is also a coffee house selling a limited variety of food and beverages, so it may be an idea to bring a picnic. There are numerous picnic tables to use. Overall it was a really enjoyable visit and a place that can be visited many times.

Great place to visit! Fun for all the family, walk around the historic docks and visit the shops and businesses and ships of old before enjoying a beautiful cream tea in the sunshine at the coffee shop!

A really good afternoon the grandchildren loved it lots to do around the museum and on the ship.A full day could easily be filled. great value for money. A nice little cafe on site and some nice childrens gifts in the gift shop at reasonable prices. You can visit as many times as you like for a year as long as you keep your ticket we will definitely return.

A good and interesting place to visit with history and the Trimcomalee ship is awesome. All staff friendly and welcoming.

Fabulous day out at this wonderful musrum. The Trincomalee is awesome and the little shops and offices around the quayside are really interesting. The History of Hartlepool rounded off our visit with the account of the Hartlepool Bombardment....a WW1 event that my hubbys grandmother lived through as a 7 year old child.Highly recommended 👌

We paid a visit to the Hartlepool Historic Quay today (now called The Royal Navy Museum of Hartlepool), to see if its changed since it first opened in 1994. We went when it first opened, our Luke was only 6 weeks old, hes 28 now...lolWe next went about 8yrs ago when our friends were up visiting. It got took over by the Royal Navy Museums 6yrs ago, to supposedly put investment into it. Well, all we can say is very little has changed in 28yrs. Listening to out of town visitors there, they seemed to enjoy it, but it used to be better. Paintwork is tired, staff miserable, and dont interact with the guests.Some bits changed on the Trincomalee, my brother got married on there about 11yrs ago, and the Captains Stateroom has been taken apart, the raised rear deck where we stood for photos has been removed, and lots of plastic covers on deck, and buckets all over below deck, as the ship is leaking in all over. It needs serious investment, but not much sign of any in the 6yrs theyve ran it.No discount for residents anymore, but your ticket does last a year now, although theres not much youd want to go again for, kids play area maybe?We also visited the adjoining Museum of Hartlepool afterwards, which shows some good history of the town, and is free to enter.

Very interesting museum,the original ship as well,replica ship shops (not chip shops lol).lovely cafe,gift shop & plenty of tiolets.

Brilliant place for a day out with the kids, enty to do and a cafe on site or nearby on ghe Marina

Wow, this was loads better than we expected.We had only visited here as I wanted to get closer to the sailing ship I could see from my hotel window.I didnt realise you would be allowed unrestricted access to the ship, which is in fantastic condition considering its age. We spent about 3 hours here, enjoyed a coffee in the cafe, a perusal of the period correct shops and watched the musket and cannon display at 11:30 which was great. Your entry ticket is valid for a year too.My single moan is to put more people on the front desk, when we left at about 12 ish, the queue was from the front desk, through the shop and out of the doors.

Visited here during the week and was well worth the trip! Had a great day out. Theres alot of insight into how life was aboard a ship with various statues/replicas and being aboard the Trincomalee gave a real sense of adventure! The staff are also friendly and I got to see a weapons demonstration of a musket and a cannon!

I loved my visit. I dont know anything about maritime things but who doesnt enjoy seeing and exploring a massive old ship? The quayside and fighting ship exhibit were also excellent as was the canon and musket demo. All the staff, from the guides to the gift shop to the cafe, were all really nice. Absolute bargain. I’m sure Hartlepool are very proud of Trincomalee.

An absolute joy to visit.This time there were even more attractions for the children including firing balls through cannons using pressurised airEasier access to coffee shop from the new attractions and a great selection of foods and drinks.

A truly beautiful, comprehensive and fascinating exhibition not to be missed for those interested in Navy!

Had a brilliant time..Just wished the weather had been warmer..Brought grandchildren presents out of the gift shop ..The gentleman on the ship was very informative...Plenty for the children to get interested in plus play areas.Had pie and cake+tea in the cafe...Would come back maybe bring our family xx

Definitely value for money. Two children aged 4&5 loved every minute. Plenty to do, interactive museum pieces, horrible histories room was great, Cafe good range of reasonably priced food (sandwiches lovely and a decent pot of tea). Very authentic fighting ships tour and walk around the ship excellent.

Took the grandkids and they loved it! A 5yr old,an 8yr old and a 10yr old.they were all over the ship, they were amazed by the cannon fire, and spent 2 hours in the museum...wonderful afternoon!

What a fabulous day out, please find the time to go, its amazing and such good value for the entrance fee paid.Transported back 200 years when you walk through the doors onto the dockside with the magnificent HMS Trincomalee taking centre stage surrounded by individual authentic architectural shops of the period where you can walk in and be informed of the past.A tour of the ship is a must, to think it was manned by 240 people, to see the hardships of daily life they endured when they set out to sea.Well stocked warm cafe, toilet facilities and wheelchair friendly.Also theres a museum of informative visual and tactile educational displays of the local area which children will really love.Theres such a lot to see, believe me its worth going, were so lucky to have this on our doorstep.(To add, our tour guide, dressed in period costume on the ship was fantastic, such a pleasant patient man, he answered so many of our questions -thank you so much)Allow a good few hours to get round it all, so much to see !

We loved it! The boat itself is magnificent! The museum made of different shop and shows is very entertaining and fun for kids of all ages, I never stayed this long in any museum! 3.5h. We booked for 10am, it was great because we were only 3 families, it felt like we had the museum for ourselves. The 1st show was at 11am with firing the Canon, then 12.30pm rope making, 1pm things they used at that time; these were the ones we saw.There is a weapon demo at 2pm and canon firing at 2.30pm again. Dont miss the shows! U learn so much! And Stuart & Steve make a great duo. There is a café, playground, indoor play area, and toilets of course. We booked online the night before. Paid £37 for 2 adults and 5 children which I thought was affordable.Very educative visit for adults & children. U can have a pushchair around, might be a struggle for the boat though, I saw there was a lift in the boat but I think its more for disabled people as the steps inside the boat are very steep.Dont miss this museum if you re around Hartlepool!

Very, very underrated day out! Great staff and lots to do! When you get in, you cant help but stare at the majestic oldest real warship in Europe, and it just gets better as you can go in and look. You can imagine the battles and the confined spaces as you explore, and plenty of side attractions educating you all the way along. And I havent even mentioned the museum! Unlimited use for 12 months is like the icing on the cake!

We really loved our visit here. It was definitely made perfect by being able to look around the HMS Trincomalee at our leisure. Very enjoyable and well worth the entrance fee.

Amazing day out for all the family and your entry tickets are valid for a year so you can have multiple visits. We travelled from Edinburgh on a recommendation and were not disappointed. The boat, harbour and old shops give a taste of sea life onboard HMS Trincomalee, the oldest warship still afloat In Europe. The staff and their demonstrations of gun and cannon fire was fabulous and informative. There are many exhibitions including a walk through multi media presentation of life on board. It has a cafe shop with reasonable prices and a childrens themed play area. There is a museum of Hartlepool too. If you like Beamish (near Newcastleyoull love here. 😁

Absolutely love this ship !!I could have spent all day just sat looking at her from a bench.The place is lovely , they is buildings you can go in and they are set up as all the shops that would have been around busy naval docks 200 years ago. The details are spot on and make great photos.The ship is in beautiful condition and was having some areas re painted when we was there, even at 57 you have to duck to go around the ship and some of the steps are really steep.

The booking system was not slick, I traveled by public transport and the footpath to the nearby station unsign posted and pretty dangerous with some busy road crossings. The boats were good but the dusty old shops were poor. A great pity as Hartlepool seems a great place!
