Small art museum free to the public. Bottom floor contains mostly traditional art, with many by the famous Uruguayan painter Blanes.Top floor is modern art, which is not my style, but to each their own.

Don’t miss this best collection of contemporary art in Uruguay. The museum is free and you can get a good feel of it in 15 to 20 minutes. It might look closed at first so check the door.

This is one of the most important museums in the country. It has some iconic pieces of Uruguayan art, like Carlotta and Cuneo works. It is not the most impressive museum ever. It is publicly underfunded. The exhibits are small. But its always free!

Great variety of artists and loved their Petrona Viera exhibit. Downfall is they played the same song consistently during my visit which did drive me crazy at the end!

Two really wonderful special exhibits. One by an illustrator on the main (and firstfloor. The second by a painter, sculptor, etc., Alpuy, on the first floor. Prolific and profound. Not to be missed.

The sole and unique modern art museums in Montevideo for the time being. There is a permanent collection of xxth Century Uruguayan art displayed on the first floor, while temporary exhibitions of well known world and Uruguayan artists are shown upstairs.Because the building is located at Rodos park, in spring and summer you can drink a coffee or a beverage outdoors. For exhibitions information and opening hours check the web page.Acces to the museum is free.

Small collection of stunning works by Uruguayan and Canary Islands artists. Cavernous exposition space allows for uncrowded viewing - really enjoyable place to take in the beauty of the paintings, sketches, sculptures, and multimedia displays. The very welcoming multilingual docent offered me a thorough introduction to the museum. I cant believe admission is free! Highly recommended for those who enjoy modern and contemporary art.

Went for Picasso but they only took tickets through an app you had to download. The app was buggy for non-Uruguayans (it didnt work after 15 minutes adding my info/passport #, etc). No option to pay cash, so I never saw the exhibition. Rest of the museum was just okay. Security unfriendly for being at a cultural place.

Beautiful art museum in beautiful green sorroundings. Great to have the opportunity to see a selection of Picassos. Our talented Blanes keeps on shinning in his "Yellow Fever". A national pride, indeed.

Normally free, which is amazing, but you can not get tickets for the "famous" exhibitions inside the museum which is odd, also quite ugly from the outside in my opinion.

The museum always has paintings from Figari and Blanes, and them they have a rotating exhibition in the upper level. In April 2019 they had a Picasso exhibition that was prepared especially for Uruguay.Except in exceptional cases the entry is free.

I love modern art museums, you never know what to expect, but I always find exhibits that amuse and entertain me. There is quite a bit of video art here, I found the exhibit of the "Cow munching grass from a Bucket" together with the sounds, most amusing. Then there is the video show of the two guys formally dressed making bird like noises. The art is very well spread out in big spaces, I was first in on Saturday when it opened at 1.00pm and had the place to myself. This is a nice very spacious artistic area, and free to visit. There is a small green park area outside and of coffee shop. Definitely worth a visit, go with an open mind and enjoy.

A beautiful place of contemporary art and modern architecture. Thoughtfully planned, spacious exhibition of paintings, installations, projections and sculptures. There is no English tour guide available however the entry and locker are free. The museum is relatively small compared to other capitals but intimate and will take you about 60-90 minutes to explore depending on your lust of interpretation. CCTV was in operation everywhere and guards were standing at every corner of the exhibition which was kind of odd. Theres an inviting yet pricey café at the entrance waiting for you after the visit. Can recommend to dip into Uruguayan perspective on modern art!

A nice mid-size museum with good variety of paintings—especially good if you want to see variety, or just catch a little lo Torres-Garcia, Gurvich, and Figari without going to all those museums as it has a few key works from each. There is ample room to take breaks inside, with a cafe outside too.

Good museum, interesting collection, national artists, modern art. Very nice modern building, next to Parque Rodo. Many of the collections works with 3-D replicas of key works for visually impaired people. But not very open to children, first situation in Urugay, being approached for child leaning on a seat, because obviously only sitting was allowed. Otherwise definitely worth a visit.

The museum is small, human scale. Both cozy and modern. The permanent collection is very interesting, and they always have awesome itinerant exhibitions. Nice coffeeshop. Also recommended for children! It is located within the wonderful Parque Rodó, which is also a plus.

Most of the art exhibited during my visit was not particularly my taste, but the layout of the museum is nice, its free and rather small, so you dont risk much time and money, people working there are super friendly and there is very good free WiFi. And the coffee shop next to the museum is worth a stop.
