located in a central, beautiful and quiet area of Bucharest, in a house originally built in a neo-Romanian style and then totally rethought by the new owners in a Moorish-Florentine style, the map museum has an impressive collection of old maps that you can see exposed on the simes on the 3 floors. concerts and shows are organized in the backyard. they also have different programs for children. It is a beautiful museum, if you are passionate about history and geography you should not miss it.

One of the most impressive things were in fact not the maps, but the painted ceilings. Ive also enjoyed the statues of the most famous world explorers from Mercator to Polo.This month was also a special exhibition of the Romanian anti-communist post-war history. Special credit for the interactive map room. Anything visually interactive is always pleasant to the eye.It has 2 floors and the entrance was 10 lei. The total visit would be under one hour. Theres also a gift shop.

Lots of maps, mostly featuring the historical regions of Romania. One of the lesser known museums of Bucharest that are worth a visit.

The museum is in a beautiful villa built in the 1920s on London Street, in one of the most exclusivist neighborhoods in Bucharest and hosts a collection of old maps such as astronomical maps, continents maps, political maps, city plans, and more.The ticket for an adult costs only 10 RON (2 eurosand its underpriced as I would have paid the ticket only to explore the interior of the villa. Sometimes they organize special events and display different collections at an additional cost.Take your time to try to understand the maps and you can spend here at least one hour and a half.Visiting this museum represents a pleasant and peaceful way to spend a couple of hours on a rainy Sunday perhaps or simply when you are in the neighborhood.

Excellent collection of maps, very well organized both temporarily and geographically. It provides a good learning opportunity and can be interesting even for school trips. Very friendly staff and well maintained place.

It was a very niche experience. I would have loved if they had explained how maps were made back then and had dedicated a room to this process.

Great lesser known museum. The lady at the reception was very nice to us and it looked like they really care about publicity and openness to the public. Be sure to visit the stained glass windows as well. There are also some nice painted ceilings and old furniture as well.The entrance fee is 10 RON for adults and 2.5 RON for students, which in my opinion is a bit small for what you are offered. I also liked the puzzle parts in the upper floors, they really make you feel like an adventurer.

The musem is small but with a nice collection of maps.The building that is hosting the museum is equally impressive. The only minus is that like nearly all museums in Romania, has a section closed.

The museum presents numerous maps and a few old books. It it very well maintained and the information is interesting.

Although Im not necessarily passionate about this stuff, I have found it quite attractive for the two hours we spent there (a friend took me to the museum). Though we couldnt figure out a couple of dates from the maps on the top floor.On top of that, I was also left with the impression that it seemed a good place to bring your kid (there even are a few mini- games there). Very educative experience, which I also recommended to some friends and acquaintances.

The best museum of maps in Europe

Well curated, poetic English explanations, super friendly staff who put up with us asking a lot of questions at the start. Totally off the beaten tourist track - we were the only visitors the whole time we were there. Recommended whether you are intrigued, obsessed or just a little curious.

The National Museum of Maps and Old Books was set up, at least in part, by grace of its two main contributors, Adrian and Daniela Năstase, who donated most of the exhibits presently displayed in the 16 rooms of the museums. The collections amount to some 800 items, which are always worth exploring by people interested in the field.It’s true the target public of this museum is not as wide as it is the case with most of the other museums of Bucharest. However, the National Museum of Maps and Old Books is an invaluable stop on the sightseeing tour of the city recommendable for people keen in exploring old maps, prints, engravings and the like.On top of its scientific and historical merits, the museum is often appreciated for the successful attempt of setting up the collections as aesthetically appealing as possible. The stained glass works are notable in this respect.

Yes we liked this place as we could get the magnifying glasses out on the smaller maps. We were very grateful that the lady explained it all to us showing the oldest map on the ground floor. The stained glass on the upper level was very colourful. Only one thing my son wanted to see the books but they were not there she did say something was going on on the ground floor so this must have been why. Anyway all good.

Such a fun and small museum. Its not yet really known but the quality is really well and nicely presented. The employees helped me and where really nice.

Highly recommended!The museum opened to the public in 2003 and is hosted in a beautiful villa built in the 1920’s. The main collection belonged to Professor Adrian Năstase’s family and was donated to the Romanian state. At present, the main collection is enriched with other donations of graphic works and maps.The patrimony of the museum consists of over 1000 works dating from the 16th to the 20th century. Among them you will find maps of the regions inhabited by Romanians and their ancestors, continents of the world, astronomical maps and city plans. Also, the patrimony of the museum includes graphic works with various subjects: landscapes, portraits, traditional costumes.The museum is set in a 1920s building constructed in a style that combines architectural elements of Gothic inspiration – the pointed arches – with those of Mediterranean inspiration – the loggias reminding of 15th century Venetian villas.In order to mark the new use of the building since 2003, the ceilings have been decorated with inspirational insights from mythology and astronomical maps and the stained glass windows were designed with various heraldic and cartographic representations.

Very intresting , its worth visiting

One of the most active museums in Bucharest. Though small, they always have some special events running. Great activities for kids of all ages.

An interesting museum, child friendly. The children can follow clues on the maps. You can find maps from XVIth century with Europe.

The place has some really great exhibits, some of them being surprisingly old and well restored. The ladies in charge were extremely kind and helpful. It is advised to visit it during a working day, early in the morning so as to have the pleasure of admiring the exhibits without being distracted by loads of visitors or noise. It was a notable experience for a person who has a thing for maps.

One of the best museums Ive been to. The building is an attraction in its own right, the collection is carefully preserved and organised.

Small, but amazing museum. It has maps from 16th century until 20th century with an emphasis on Romania/Southeast Europe. Borrow a free magnifying glass to enjoy the maps more!

Amazing place. Quite an impressive museum. It exceeded my expectations. They had a wider variety of maps covered medieval times and also modern age. The Museum building is gorgeous. I have to notice that the Maps museum has really made major strides in the past years.

The museum itself is quite small, but it is located in a beautiful renovated villa, which is what we loved most to discover.

Very interesting collection of maps from Romania and abroad! The three floors building is beautiful too ,and the entrance fee is quite cheap!

Great place for old maps and cartography passionates. The entire collection is well preserve, they do lots of great events for kids and adults altogether and recently launched an app. All in all, not many capitals have a dedicated old Maps museum and this one is a must, if youre in Bucharest.

This museum is something special! Chronology of Romania history within maps and books, cards etc. Definitely I suggest to visit this place.

A quaint little museum with interesting maps and paintings. Its worth a visit even if just for the architecture of the building itself. You wont regret it.
