Prince's Mansion, Ny Vestergade 10, 1471 København K, Denmark, Hillerod
18th-century mansion with collections and exhibitions on Denmark's history, people and culture.
An extensive collection of artefacts from around the world, and I highly recommend the guided tour on the Vikings. Our guide was very knowledgeable and gave us a great insight into the Viking era. They also have a short movie that depicts a viking lesders life with a great storytelling. Highly recommended!
A must visit if you are in Copenhagen. Although it would take 6 hours to do justice to the artefacts on display or probably two visits. The shop in the ground floor has a lot of unique items on sale which are usually not available in the souvenir shops.
Many fine exhibits. Especially the new are interesting and well made, but we were missing some more story-telling in the older exhibits (Egyptian, Greek, Medieval). We really liked the trip through 1660-2000, but it could have included some more personalization of the stories told.
A must visit museum if you’re ever in Copenhagen. Exhibitions from all periods of danish prehistory with beautiful finds.
The coolest Vikings exhibition! The story that starts from the the ancient people through the vikings prism and Denmark history. Conquest and the conquerors, time travelling and many different nationalities shown here.
What an amazing collection! It was an incredible experience here, unfortunately we did not have enough time to go through all the sections. A map is provided at the entrance which is very helpful in navigating through the sections and choosing what to visit in case you are in short of time.
A wonderful museum that you have to visit if you want to learn about the Danish history. The exhibition about Vikings was very interesting.
Love the recent exhibition "Join the vikings on raid", they showed a video of Vikings’ raid through a cinematic story, you will walk through the story with the charactors by 5 spaces at the hall. The rest of exhibition is quite average but I enjoyed the part of Eygpt. The museum restaurant also serves "eat as vikings" menu, taste good!
I really enjoyed the Viking exhibit. Best thing in there by far. Great reconstructions of Vikings and cool swords and axes. One star lost due to the hurrying of people out of the gift shop at the end dispute not being due to close for another 5 minutes. Some things don’t changes country to country.
Great museum, lots of interesting artefacts, particularly enjoyed the Viking longboat exhibit and video journey. Some good stuff to do with children as well and nice to see that most of the interactive exhibits were working as anticipated! We spent longer here than we thought we would although we did take a wrong turn somewhere so missed some of the museum.Overall we had a good time but it was nice to be back outdoors in the fresh air!Covered as part of our Copenhagen Card so cant comment on value either way, but we were glad we got to visit :-)
Some really cool exhibits and a great collection from Vikings. Also had audio you could listen along to with headphones.
Big museum with exhibits ranging from the history of Denmark, to vikings, to ancient Egypt, and more. We only had ~2.5 hours to experience the museum before it closed, which was not enough time to walk through. Please give yourself ~4 hours if you want to see everything.
Really nice museum with huge exhibition. The most recommended exhibition is current temporary „Follow the vikings”. It has international items, great visualisations, good descriptions and interactive journey. We spend 3/4 hours only on vikings related part and shop.
Great the parts about Denmark. Not interested in learning about the rest of the world here lol. Was there for two hours and saw only the Danish.parts good to know your ticket is good all day! But I did not go back.
Maybe Im unfair. The museum itself is very well done. Lots to see, well presented. It simply isnt the most riveting collection. The sun chariot is a must see, and there are some other unique items. The Viking exhibit is a tad underwhelming. Because there isnt that much that survived. If you have a day in Copenhagen, theres other things to see. But if you have time to spare, and are interested in Danish history, theres no way past this museum.
A nice little national museum. There are a number of permanent exhibits that are super interesting - like an exploration of hunter gatherer and pre-viking cultures, as well as a nice special exhibit on the vikings themselves. The going on a raid movie was very interesting with some solid production values.10/10, recommended for locals who havent been or tourists visiting.
There is a Viking exhibit at the National Museum from 2022-2025. Well worth a visit. There’s more to see here than the Viking Museum that’s outside the city.
If you enjoy ethnographic exhibitions this is the museum for you. An incredible collection which includes African, Chinese, Indonesian etc cultural items. There is a Renaissance section, an amazing Viking exhibition with an astounding collection of gold and silver items, religious items and a childrens museum etc. Cafe, toilets, loads of places to sit down and English explanations. It was about €15 entry. It could be an all day visit easily. Recommended
I spent the whole day here and I was lucky to have the museum almost to myself. It was a memorable experience where I got to fast-forward through the history of Denmark. I especially found it interesting to learn about their modern history of bicycle and bike infrastructure.
I really enjoyed my visit to the museum, many interesting and different sections of different period of Danish history. Very nice experience. Spent five hours there, but managed to see only half of the museum! Will come back!
Excellent experience. There was a free a guided tour about Vikings which the kids really enjoyed. Guide was very knowledgeable. Museum also had Egyptian mummies and Roman and Greek sections which were worth visiting. Must go if you are in Copenhagen.
An excellent museum! Comprehensive history of Denmark and the Viking period. Lots of intriguing exhibits of cultures around the world. Very much enjoyed the video experience of Bjorn, son of Ragnar and his eventual death. Lots of great items at the gift shop and staff were very friendly. It is very easy to get lost in the sheer wealth of items and exhibits.
Very nice museum. In Danish and English. Each floor shows different stage of Danish (and internationalHistory. Good for families aswell
This is a big museum. In my opinion, the most interesting collection is about the history of Denmark and its origins. There are also small collections about many countries and nationalities. Good collection of historical items from Egypt and Greece.
Beautiful museum, nice entertainment especially for kids
Definitely one of the top museums in the world. The Viking exhibitions is creative and creates an atmospheric experience. The permanent collection is well curated especially the later 19th/20th century sections which do a good job telling the social history. Ticket cost 110DKK for all day entry.
The kids section is well made providing information through interactivity. Little ones can dress up, do sword fights, sit on a life-sized horse among other things. The Viking exhibition is really well made. The guided tour is a highlight, the guide being quite passionate about the subject as well as humours.Parts of the exhibits have what they call “boredom buttons” - which are supposed to entertain kids in case they are … well bored. We thought that was a fantastic idea and our little ones loved it.
Great place, great experience. I highly recommend spending here time with family!
Amazing museum featuring Danish history from the ancient times to modern era. It is full of great artifacts and expositions (like Viking era overview or Danish colonial period), very well described (including English). I would recommend setting at least 3-4 hours for your visit as the museum has 4 floors and the amount of exhibits is huge.
Very nice museum.. but its not really about the history of Denmark.. its kind of everything museum.. liked the vikings exhibition very much.. other than that it was too obvious things and not very special.
Huuuuuuge place. Prehistoric exhibit is insane, Im normally not so interested in prehistory, but the incredible number of artifacts that are all so well-preserved such to still see original shapes and uses very clearly, was amazing. Very reasonably priced (I think 110kr for an adult). Upper levels of the museum havent had as much love (the labels are clearly older and not as good), but recommend the runthrough of Danish history to the year 2000 for foreigners/tourists, very insightful 😊
Massive collection of artifacts. Wonderfully displayed. English interpretations. An absolute must see if visiting Copenhagen.
I warn you, you will spend there the whole day. The museum is immense with all its exhibitions, it took me around 3 hours to get through the Viking section which was very informative and the narrative was very enjoyable. I am not even history fun, I am a molecular biologist but the museum kept me there for more than 7 hours.
If you are into history, but especially passionate about viking history, this is the place for you. I had the chance to see an exclusive exhibition about the vikings life and the general history of Denmark from 1600s until now. It has many other different sections and I suggest you get ready to spend at least 3 hours here if you intend to see everything. The price to enter was 110 DKK. Definitely a must see.
In Scandinavian style this museum is hugely underrated: the current exhibition of Viking history is a brilliant range of artifacts across the period the Vikings - displayed in visually groundbreaking modes. The storytelling of each display is compelling, supported by comprehensive, well produced documentaries.Theres not sufficient space here to continue with how powerful is this exhibition, but even allowing yourself half a day will not be enough to take in this gigantic exhibition
So much to see inside! The special exhibition on Vikings was really cool.
A real gem to see if youre visiting Copenhagen. Much, much larger than youd think. We walked in thinking wed spend an hour or 2 looking at a viking exhibit, but the breadth of the collection is easily half a day. While the viking exhibit was great, we also really enjoyed the galleries on 20th Century Danish culture. The entrance atrium by itself is worth poking in.
Really interesting museum and deceivingly large. We visited a few other museums that were specifically for Vikings, but this one has the best artifacts and info. There are also tons of other exhibits and things to see from all over the world and different time periods, but the Viking/Danish history portions were my favorite.
A huge museum with multiple exposition. We saw the viking exposition with amazing explanations of kings and queens. Loved the human of the World Exposition.
I went there looking for souvenirs but when I spoke with the greeting I was quite interested in spending time seeing the displays. You can spend a day or less if you pick specific sections to view. Beautiful way to display history. I highly recommend taking time to see this museum. You will not be disappointed!
Cool place to get an introduction to danish and Scandinavian history. I especially like some of the exhibits on the peat bog sacrifices, and the audiovisual viking tour
Simply brilliant museum. Starting from stone age the museum takes you through key stages of the development of danish peoples. It was excellent. Easy to follow and very logical. The Viking section was also good with loads of info as well as a huge longship. The Viking raid was atmospheric but I felt it over long and could have been sharper. Cafe good too
Beautiful and well managed museum. Absolutely one of my all-time favourites. Ended up spending two days with a total of 8 hours (5 hours the first day and 3 hours the second dayjust to see everything. Fairly priced and happy to pay twice for such an amazing experience. Not too many people and fairly quiet, which is always appreciated. Grab a map and try to follow it so you dont miss out - its easy to get lost. We could have easily spent two whole days here.Really the only thing that we could point out is that the air was heavy and hot in most floors so grab a water bottle with you and be prepared to need a break just to catch your breath properly again.
Nice museum which have most of information from English. Dont forget to go to 3rd floor which having Viking exhibition (temporary exhibitionwhich is absolutely stunning and informative.
Came here with the cph card so I visited for free. Staff are helpful and friendly. Nice place to visit if you are into Vikings or having some space time
An amazing collection of artifacts from all over the world! The Viking section was the best, including the remains of the world’s longest Viking ship, an extremely well-done video of the Viking quest to reach Rome, and several rune stones (which, aside from being huge, are on the Danish passport, so they *must* be important!). The other rooms weren’t quite as impressive, but still very well done. For sure one of the top things to do in Copenhagen.
Great museum but it is a bit much to take in one visit. I especially enjoyed the Viking exhibition that was going on during the time we were there
Nice museum, with a lot of objects to see, it goes from the stone age, into Vikings age, until more modern times, it has a huge display of collected pieces. Literally from stone to gold, weapons, runes you can see it all. Buy a souvenir in the museum shop and then go up to drink a beer at the bar!
An excellent museum for uncovering Denmarks fascinating history, especially for those interested in the Iron Age and Viking Age past. Very colourful, thought-provoking exhibitions.
The staff was super helpful. There was a special exhibition about the Viking Age, with a guided tour and numerous digital displays in english and danish with and without narrated audio. The ancient civilisations sections were amazing to be able watch these beautiful old relics up close. The price was very low compared to other museums im Denmark and the size of the museum was so overwhelming that we didnt even see everything in 2 hours.... Well be back! 🤓👍
