Well done. The Museum ist quite informative and well set up. I enjoyed the stay. When the renovations will be done, it must be even more bright.

This is the worst museum Ive ever been to. More than 2/3rds of it is empty. I dont know if they are renovating it but they should either close it or charge nothing. It costs $6 and they say they will only accept card payments. The few rooms that you can browse have small digital prints of President Nyerere meeting with African politicians in the 1960s with no real explanations about the significance and letters he wrote to President John F. Kennedy that are full of grammatical and wording issues. This is supposed to be the museum of culture and there is only one small room of bad, contemporary paintings. Local art shops have better works. There is a small hall about early human evolution and fossils but there are almost no bones or fossils shown. Dont bother going here. Tanzania is so rich in history and culture. They could have had an exhibit of the tribal clothing traditions throughout the country or the dark history of colonialism and independence but there is really no history or culture worth seeing here. I saw everything in less than an hour and wanted my money back at the end.

I liked the prehistoric sector and Rock Art in Africa very much and the contemporary art sector was great. But the political history part was not that much attractive. The ticket costs 12,000 Tsh

Good Museum. Smaller than you would expect. Mostly about the 1st President of Tanzania. The write ups are not very detailed, better to take a guide who are available at a fixed rate. However, there is one guide who is not good, a little rude hes a bit bigger built. The other guides are great.

Loved the museumI was offered a tour by the guide which I accepted. At the end he informs that theres a tour guide fee on top of the entrance. Thus should.have been communicated right at the beginning.Really underhanded and dishonest behavior which sullied my experience as I would have been happy to check the place out on my own.

One of the greatest places to visit on Dars map. Its located near by city centre and Botanical Garden hence its a good point of Dar Es Salaam city visiting route. The tickets are available on the entrance and its not necessary to make an apointment before. The staff is very friendly and the place us very quiet.

Interesting exhibits. The museum needs some love though. Insufficient information around the displays if you are interested in details and would like to know more about the history of the country. Did not take a guide for this, so maybe better with a guide. The natural history museum and the "biological" exhibits are not worth the time or the effort. They appear as relics of an era gone past and have very little upkeep.

Not very Happy with this place. The place is under renovation and hardly many things to see. Was expecting to see and understand the African culture but utterly disappointed. I dont go see a whale bone or butterfly garden in a museum to understand a places culture. They seriously need to do some more updations. Also the ticket of 12000 tshillings was very costly as compared to the contents in the museum.

Unfortunately this museum experience was not worth the 12,000 tsh fee. Although the front staff were very pleasant. The items in the museum were minimal and not impressive. Gave me a vibe similar to the Boma Museum in Arusha...Not a must-see attraction

Ivory, trades, savory and pictorial representation or pre and post independence era...But some items are open anybody can touch even make damage.. Looks like lack of ground staff.More than that it is a peaceful place..

I must admit it was a bit embarrassing to visit the museum with a friend who was visiting ( local charges are 2500 foreigners 12,500, they take mobile money when we visited their network was down so they charged us an extra 1000!)The only note worthy exhibit was the cradle of man however most places lakes proper explanations the staff were quite unfriendly and plain rude it felt as though they were there against their wishes. There were lots of cobwebs and dust around most display cabinets. In some places it was really hot even the fans were switched off.In other exhibits there was a repetition of pictures. The museum is filled with newspaper clippings and pictures which can easily be viewed for free on Google. There is alot of maintainance work going on and hopefully that will bring some positive changes. Its a shame that we are a country filled with history and culture and yet our museum is in the state that it is

The national Museum has SO much potential. As a history teacher I was underwhelmed, happy and low key embarassed by the place all at once. On a positive note impressed by their early man exhibition. Its a bit awkward have the U.S embassy bombing memorial in the complex as important as it is. It felt out of place at our national museum. An appropriate place for it would be the actuallocation of the former embassy. The staff at the museum are pretty rude and unprofessional which is not surprising for Dar. So dont expect qualified staff to help with you with anything. They seem like they’d rather be unemployed. The vehicle exhibition needs to be indoors as the salty ocean air is deteriorating the cars massively. I was horrified to say the least as those cars have incredible national value let alone a heafty price tag.The old museum building is one of my favorite buildings in the country was sad to see it in astate of neglect despite the Turks sponsoring its maintanance. This museum is suppose to be a relfection of how far we have come as a nation. And hope the government will prioritize and hire qualified designers and curators to bring this glorious place to its greatness. There are many qualofied Tanzanians that would help make this place a place of institutional memory and a reflection of the past to inspire future. My five stars are for the potential this great place has.

I always try to visit Nationl museum when travelling as what it presents capture the counteys collective psyche. I went early in the morning at 9 am and only myself was there. I liked the quiet atmosphere. The first floor was dedicated to the first president and the countrys struggle during his period. The second floor is more about the history of the land, paintings, and i particularly enjoyed the rock art section in Africa. Worth visiting - the entrance fee is 12,000 (+500 for transacrion fee). All payment should be made on card as it has become a rule.

I have visited the national museum, its a cool place where you get to see historical things. Me and my friend really liked there and hopefully other friends gonna come visit. I liked the colonial cars which were being used, Royce Louise and the remaining skull of the elephant, the chief materials, the rock area and the place where you roll something for a bingo maybe and slavery history. Everything was lit, they have cool receptionist. You can see it on the photos. Thank you

The Museum is found in a beautiful compound in Dar Es Salaam. I loved the story of Human Civilization, Rock Art in Africa, the Political transitions in TZ, and the memorial for the people killed during the terrorists bombing of the U.S. Embassy in Dar. The story of slavery and the slave trade were nice, but could have been more detailed and comprehensive. I was left wanting more than the stories we read in secondary school history books. I also wish I had learned more about Tanzanias anthropology : the demographic and ethnic groups that make up the Tanzanian identity .Overall though, it was very affordable to visit - about $5 to $10 (if you want to take photos), and we learned more about African culture in general.
