161 Queens Rd, Gaborone, Botswana, Kanye
Museum complex showcasing Botswanan art & heritage, with thatched-roof houses & art galleries.
Cool place. Well stocked
The museum is still being built. It looks like its going to be impressive. The art gallery is open, but unfortunately not on Mondays, when we were there. Still, it looked nice from what we could see through the windows.
The actual museum was STILL under construction (August 2022), but we could enter the gallery. Do not expect a National Gallery like the Iziko South African National Gallery in Cape Town or the British National Gallery in London that displays artworks of historic and stylistic importance - this is a commercial gallery that sells art made by local Tswana artists. The artworks range in quality, but there are some noteworthy pieces. I particularly enjoyed the basketry. The overwhelming focus is on sketches and painting, and there is definitely much talent in Botswana.
Looking for to the completion of the current project here
So nice
Best ever
Currently undergoing major renovations so despite what the information says, it will not be open at 7:45am tomorrow morning. The entire place is a building site!
attended the Japanese Art exhibition at the art gallery.other parts of the museum are under renovation/ construction.
To be visited if you want to know more about science, culture and history of Botswana.
Could do more with interactive guides.
Looking forward to the upcoming Alkebulan Exhibition. Around June
Conveniently located in the heart of the city. Frequent change in displays of local crafts
very good place to learn about ancient Botswana
Spacious, perfect for private events.
CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE (exp. 2020). The only thing you can currently see there is an exposition of three cars belonging to the first president (one room).
Great place to learn things about Botswana. Great for visiting with Kids as well, they will enjoy it. However i have been visiting since my youth and it has not changed much if at all in the past 25 years. Could most definitely do with some revamping especially for us who have been there several times. But I suppose if you are visiting for the first time it id definitely worth it. Also has a exhibition hall that from time to time hosts different art and photography exhibitions and events.
The kids had fun
Nothing to see as the place is permanently closed until further notice
Its a beautiful place bt there were no exhibitions
Closed for renovations, so no real review
Its Clean and Open, Beautiful even has a restaurant 🍴
Good venue for a good learning history on Botswana Diamonds.
Great place to unwind especially with the ongoing National Art, Basket and Craft Exhibition.
The restaurant by the museum sells great food
Long been closed for renovation...8 months renovation is 8 years...please we are losing out...
It is was great place ever having to feel the sense of nature.
Learn about Your Countrys History here. Bravo
If you want to know more about our beloved Botswana then and now this the place to be. Our Botswana our pride.
I really like the art gallery.
The museum is very historic
The national museum has been closed since 2016 and projected opening date still hasnt been released to us the public. Theyre also currently not using the art gallery space on the museum grounds for art but rather to display posters with information on various things. Very boring and uninformative. Zero creativity. The museum that was the same for years was better than this make-shift museum of posters. Definitely not a place to take guests or children. Disappointing.
It was a great experience going there,, I got the chance to be explained to about all the different kinds of things that are in the museum
Free and very informative. Needs to finish the renovations soon.
The place is currently closed to the public while undergoing refurbishments. Only the art gallery is open, but doesnt have much to offer.
Pay a visit here if you are art lover...and also learn about the history of our country.
👌wow. Informative, awesome artefacts
Nice exhibition currently on. Expected more though and amenities like toilets definitely need an update and better maintenance. Loads of potential
Closed for renovation.couldnt see the museum only art gallery
Its a nice place to relax while learning about the country
Beautiful place to host a small theatre
We were only allowed to view the art gallery because of renovations
Great history telling,abt Botswana
The Museum was temporarily closed during the time I went there although I was still able to walk around and see what it offered. This museum seem small and outdated but believe it was close for renovations. The reception told me that the museum is normally free of charge.
Cheaper entry rates, and a lot to learn about Botswanas traditional lifestyle...
Resource place for our culture and heritage.
Documents some historically significant artifiacts and natural treasures. Could use a revamp of the curated content.
Great place to understand the history of Botswana
